I have a bit of a story for this place if anyone is willing to listen: Okay so basically my mom was working in the area about 3 years ago and heard about this place from co-workers. We decided to go but never really got the chance becuase its like a 30 minute drive from us. But as fate would have it, my mom had an inflamed optical nerve that prevented her from driving, so it was I that would take her to work. On the way back, we decided to stop at this place. AND IT WAS AMAZING. Afterwards we go home and continue our day. But after a while, my mom changes employers and then quarantine happens so I essentially forget about the place. BUT after 3 years go by and I became more of a foodie I decided to look for the place. Sadly, I didn't know the name and I only had my mom's employer to go off. So, I did the most reasonable thing I could think of: spend the next 3 hours clicking on every sushi place in Newart on google maps. And eventually I FOUND IT. I recognized the interior and then went the following day. AND IT WAS STILL AMAZING JUsT LIKE IT WAS 3 YEARS AGO. However the only drawback in my opinion was that a lot of the rolls are just modifications of other rolls. Like the California plus roll is a California roll with eel on top or something. Which is annoying but their fish quality more then makes up for it. I haven't tried most of their menu but I will definitely make the trip to go again when I get home from school. read more

O' Sushi, O'Sushi, O' Sushi! Where do I begin? This sushi joint has a ton to offer. From fast and attentive service, to flavorful, unique sushi combinations. We were widely impressed how fast we were seated. It was Saturday night after a giants game and we were expecting long lines but these folks have figured out how to get people in and out and it's great. The menu is extensive and there is something for everyone. We ordered 4 speciality rolls and could not be more impressed. They're crab mix is real crab instead of imitation crab and it could not be more lovely. We ordered two raw rolls and two cooked rolls. Topped with fresh fish and plated perfect, we knew this spot would be our go to next time we are in town. Keep doing what you're doing O' Sushi, it's not going unrecognized. read more

My work spouse and I always come here for sushi! So dependable and reliable in terms of food quality, service, and cleanliness. Go-to rolls are Kiss of Fire, Kamikaze, Ball of Fury, and Warriors. They also have nice bento options and good appetizers. We've gotten gyoza and takoyaki and enjoyed both! They doordash so that's also a good option if you can't get out to eat. However, probably the biggest plus of eating in is that they give FREE ICE CREAM at the end of your meal! You get a nice generous scoop each. I've had mostly green tea from them but a few times they've given out strawberry. Of course you get what you get, but I've always been happy with what I get! :) In a very convenient location right off the 84. They can get busy at lunchtime but I've never really had to wait long. This is my go to sushi place in the east bay. It's a hit or miss depending on the day you order. There are days the sushi is fresh and there are days the sushi is not. Nonetheless I still order here hoping it's a fresh day since this is one of the better sushi places in the area. read more

This place is quite small, and parking is hard to find. I came here with my boyfriend for dinner. We got here around 6pm, and there was people lining up to be seated. Our wait wasn't too long, probably waited for 20 mins. max. We ordered their crunch roll and top gun sushi roll to share, and a bento box. I got the 3 items dinner bento box w/ chicken katsu, beef teriyaki, and california roll. ** If you want the same item twice, it would be additional cost. Before our entree came, we got complimentary miso soup, salad, and gyoza (potstickers). For their miso soup, they add real tofu into their soup, which was awesome, and their potstickers were on point. It was not oily at all, and it was still super crispy. Now onto their rolls, their rolls were really fresh and it tasted great. I really liked their crunch roll. Basically they fried the california roll, and they added sweet sauce on top of it. It tasted AMAZING. The bento box took the longest to come. My boyfriend and I were pretty full already, and we still had to wait additional 10 mins., we wanted to cancel the order but it finally came out. Their service were pretty good, but they're slow with their bento box. Everything tasted good, besides the beef teriyaki, it was a bit dry and needed more sauce. Overall, loved my experience here. I would recommend people to try this place out. The portions here are pretty good size and not too pricey. At the end, they also gave us a small cup of green tea ice cream. I'm so glad we stumbled upon this place! Friendly staff, great food and a lot of it! So they don't have a huge sushi selection BUTTTTT they give you so much complimentary dishes is crazy. O' Sushi is 200% Korean owned. When I step through the door and I hear the words, "Irasshaimase" my first instinct is that the speaker is not Japanese. A true Japanese person would welcome the customer with an abbreviated (and gruffer) version, "...shaimasu" not pronouncing the first two syllables and scrimping the last syllable. I drank no less than three cups of O'Sushi's (admittedly lukewarm) Barley Tea served in these nice metal cups. At first I was disappointed that it wasn't green tea, but oh well, they're Korean. Now why aren't the chopsticks metal too? Anyway, you'll probably pass the time eating edamame green beans before you're allowed to order. So tonight being slightly cold, I ordered the Nabeyaki Udon. I got a salad, which I really liked, the dressing being the best part. When I got my entree, the bowl was the size of a ramen donburi. I got a piece of tempura in mine, and it was fine, except the breaded exterior was soggy meaning it must not have been crisped enough. I was happy with the wakame, chicken, and broth. However, my sister gave up her seafood udon after a while because she's allergic to MSG and her skin was showing symptoms. Thusly, I got to eat the mussel and oysters she left behind, and they were good, esp. the oyster. I also had some of my mom's Green Valley Roll, which was covered in avocado slices, and they were fine too. I also got the Korean popcorn chicken in a honey mustard sauce, which was just fine. Then we got some green tea ice cream, which they just gave us, and it was pretty good. Altogether, the price of the meal was not bad. All the dinner specials were under $15. If you come here for dinner, and you're not getting sushi, you obviously want the dinner-exclusive menu items. Otherwise, the lunch menu is significantly cheaper, and you might want to come here for lunch instead. Finally, the atmosphere is nice. It's warm and well-lit. Japanese sushi places tend to be pretty dim, so O'Sushi is "O'Right" in my book. read more

I think I've found myself a new sushi spot in Fremont/Newark. Was craving sushi one day and stumbled across O'Sushi on Yelp, so decided to scope it out. It's located in that 4 corners shopping intersection of Jarvis and Newark Blvd, in the same complex as Safeway. Going in, the place isn't fancy - it feels like your standard mid-range sushi spot, but comfortable to sit in. Wait time on the weekend after the lunch rush wasn't too bad - probably waited 15 minutes or so. However, judging by the paper wait list and the stack of plastic chairs outside, I'm assuming it can get quite busy. I was relieved that the menu isn't crazy extensive - just enough so you don't have to wrack your head over what to order. I would say the average roll price was about $11, so pretty much on par with other places. Forgetful me can't recall what we ordered, but one was the Lion King, the other was tempura something, and the third might have been the Rainbow Roll. What scores this place extra bonus points is the nice on-the-house stuff. We got a small dish of edamame, small bowls of miso soup, some gyoza, and lastly, some yummy green tea ice cream to cap off the meal. All complimentary. These nice tokens (plus the solid grade sushi and friendly service) are definitely features that make you want to go back. I don't know if they offer everything and every single time, but any combinations of these freebies gets points in my book. The owners obviously care about their customers' experience, so this is a big plus. The food was good - portion sizes and quality was very solid. The rolls were fresh and well made. 3 rolls between two people left us feeling stuffed. Service was good and our server was very friendly. It wasn't perfect as our tea cups ran dry for quite some time before it was refilled, but since we had water as well, I didn't bother asking for tea. Just finished having dinner here on a Saturday night and there wasn't much of a wait time. We waited max 5 minutes. We were seated and the waitress was really nice .. We got complimentary miso soup and gyoza! No idea they did that but that was a nice touch! We had three different rolls and even though I had ordered the lion king roll the food came out pretty fast compared to other sushi places I've been to. The prices are very reasonable about 10 bucks per roll .. And then at the end they even gave complimentary ice cream! I wish I knew that earlier bc I was so full!! Service is quick and attentive! - Rainbow Roll: pretty standard Rainbow Roll. They don't skimp on the size of the raw fish though! - Kamikaze Roll: awesome sauce on this! - Kiss of Fire Roll: if you like a little spice/kick in the mouth, this is the roll to get! All of the rolls were huge! They're definitely don't cut down on ingredients. :) After tip and tax, it turned out to be around $15/person. Not bad at all. I've had this place bookmarked since they opened but was a little reluctant to go there based on my experiences from the previous sushi spot that was there (old town sushi). I don't think these are the same owners and if they are, wow what an improvement! I came here for lunch with my dad, who comes here regularly. He was telling me about how the sushi is really good and fresh and extremely affordable. No lie.. I don't think there was a single roll over $12 on the menu. I also noticed their chirashi prices are all about $15 as well. Again, not bad! I'll have to get that next time. We had ordered what seemed like the whole menu.. Pops loves his sushi lol. Started off with an order of gyoza and chicken karaage (mainly for my little one but we dug in too). Chicken was nice, juicy and crispy, and came with a creamy sweet dipping sauce. The gyoza were really good, super crispy and not greasy at all. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture of either but I did scan over them in a video. Then came the rolls. We ordered a crazy horse roll, kamikaze roll, tempura roll and Hawaiian roll. The crazy horse roll was ginormous and could not be eaten in one bite. Maybe 4 bites. Inside had avocado, salmon, ahi and hamachi. Super fresh and delicious. The kamikaze roll had tempura shrimp inside and was topped with spicy ahi, tobiko, tempura crumbs and this spicy and creamy sauce. I really liked that one, and I'm not one for tempura rolls. At all. The tempura roll was meh... Just a piece of shrimp tempura rolled with way too much rice and a little avocado. Skip that one. The hawaiian roll was another really tasty one as well, spicy ahi and cucumber inside and ahi on top. I also had a hot tea with my lunch which was actually more like a luke warm tea but it was fine. I like tea so I wasn't complaining. Oh, did I mention that edamame, miso soup and ice cream are all included with your order? Whatever it may be... Not just dinners or bentos. The ice cream flavor they gave me was like a mocha almond fudge flavor, which is not my favorite.. But that turned out to be ok because there was a huge block of solid ice in the middle of my ice cream. Luckily my lil one's ice cream was all clear of ice, they gave her strawberry (wise choose for the little ones). Overall, I liked this place. Good sushi at extra reasonable prices. Only gripe... I live in San Leandro and I will never go anywhere else but here if I want some great Japanese food. It is worth the drive. One of the friendliest and coolest guys you'll ever meet. As far as the restaurant itself, amazing. Amazing food, amazing staff, amazing customer service, amazing presentation. They are always taking care of myself, my family, my friends and anyone I bring here and they always make you feel welcome. O' Sushi is the new kid on the block replacing Old Town. Since new restaurants tend to try harder to uphold quality and make a name for themselves we decided to come here. We were seated immediately and greeted with great service. Edamame, for now, seems to be free to customers as an appetizer. We ordered kaki fry (fried oysters), sake nigiri, and cherry blossom. Overall, the sashimi slices are thick relative to other restaurants. However, everything tasted average with minimal fresh fish taste. Moreover, the kaki fry took longest to come out and it turned out the server got our order wrong and gave us fresh oysters instead (which doesn't exactly make sense 'cause raw oysters should be quick to come). We decided to keep the oysters and they were OK, tiny and again, not fresh. The server gave us free gyoza to compensate for their mistake, which is a friendly gesture, but it was over-fried and the filling was meh. Sad to say, but the free green tea ice cream at the end of our meal was probably my favorite part. This is an alright place to drop by for lunch or dinner if you are craving sushi but don't expect it to blow your mind. If you're craving sushi and don't want to wait in line, order it TO-GO!!! Dinner rush gets pretty packed, usually a line out the door! Out of the 4 times that I've been here, the same waitresses are working... always walking/running around with a smile, but they are simply UNDER-STAFFED! Hire some one to place the orders and run the floor, let the waitresses take orders and bring out orders, have the bus boy's bring out drinks and clear tables. They could be much more efficient if they've stopped and restructured their system and bring in another person or two. The sushi rolls and sashimi; all very fresh, flavorful, presentation is OK, and the rolls aren't loaded with rice which is great! I think the menu for the rolls needs to expand a little bit. A lot of the rolls mimic the rainbow roll, but with different fish or toppings inside or ontop. Don't get me wrong, everything tastes great, but I think they could be a little more creative for the roll lovers. I myself am a sashimi or a chirashi (sashimi ontop of rice) lover, and I haven't had anything that tasted bad on my end. Add more staff or someone to run the restaurant floor so its not such a mad scramble, have a couple more "creative" rolls, and this place would be my go-to spot since its conveniently located down the street from my house. read more

Wow, so another Japanese restaurant quickly replaces Old Town Sushi and New Town Sushi in the Newark Market Place Shopping Center by Safeway. The place got a little remodel from when it was New Town Sushi. I wonder why this place keeps changing names and owner. The location isn't even that bad, it's in a fairly decent shopping center with many driving businesses. ' We sat in the booth and the booths are fairly big so you can fit 3 people on each side I would say. The ambience of the place is nice, it looks good all throughout. There is a TV to watch the games while you eat. There isn't much of s waiting area inside so you'll have to wait outside if it's pretty busy. The food came out pretty quickly. Although, we ordered a Udon dish and the waiter said it would take a while, like at least 15-20 minutes, but guess what, it ended up being the first dish that arrived to our table! Funny eh? The chicken terriyaki was alright, although at New Town they gave you much more chicken. It wasn't bad though, great tastes and sauce wasn't bad either. The Saba was decent, not the best presentation. At other Japanese resaurants they give some veggies or something so the place doesn't look bare with just the Saba on the plate. They gave us each some Complimentary Green Tea Ice Cream which was a nice touch. First Japanese restaurant to ever do so! Overall, just a 3 stars. Came back for a double date and their service was great! It felt like we were being catered to. We ordered a sashimi boat and got gyoza on the house! The waiter was nice enough to bring us all miso soup, salad and rice. I could see a big difference in the owner change. They seem to really care about their customer service. Small restaurant, so there was a little bit of a wait when I came (it was Saturday night though, so understandable). We were seated at a large table, yay! Service was pretty good except they could have refilled the waters a little more frequently. All of the sushi rolls we ordered were very good. We had the M&M roll, super lion king roll and super California roll. My dad had the chicken teriyaki dinner which he said was just okay. Oh and the jalapeño popper appetizer lacked in flavor.. It was packed on a Monday night. My friend and I were seated immediately prior to 7pm. I've dined at this establishment many times before but under different management and they've changed their name multiple times. I still refer to it as Old/New Town Sushi though. It used to be Shogun(?) decades ago. Based on food alone, I'd have to give the place 3.5 stars, but I'm pretty sure it's because of what I ordered. I was super excited after seeing photos of 2 piece salmon teriyaki filets in the 3 item bento yet I only received one, albeit it was almost as large as the 2 piece combined. My chicken teriyaki had a nicely grilled exterior. However, the inside had this almost slimy texture I can only call undercooked. Microwaving my leftovers should suffice. We received complimentary edamame, glad that hasn't changed. Miso soup and chopped salad are included with bentos and entrees. They gave us four gyoza on the house, I read that they change it up to chicken karaage sometimes. I was disappointed with my CA rolls. They tasted fine but instead of an imitation crab/mayo mix, they filled them with the packaged crab I avoid at buffets. My friend ordered the Green Valley with shrimp tempura/cucumbers inside and topped with avocado. She took it home because she was too full from oysters and her bento. I ordered another green roll with seaweed salad on top, can't recall the name because I didn't like it. It didn't occur to me the whole roll was deep fried. The roll was filled with some fish and cream cheese-- I thought the fish inside was deep fried, my mistake. At that point I just wanted a Number 1 roll (CA/shrimp tempura topped with fresh tuna and salmon, smothered with imitation crab salad) from the old New Town. My expectations were too high since a friend of mine said everything was "really good," I do agree that the complimentary green tea ice cream was fantastic. I'm so used to CREAM green tea ice cream I've forgotten what the authentic variety tastes like. Service is at least 4 stars. They're attentive and give you space. They definitely know customers like taking their time and don't like being rushed. One of the waitresses kept glancing at our table and I thought she was going to mention the bill or boxes but she never did. The table next to us was celebrating an 86th birthday complete with a cheetah print balloon and vase of red roses. Once our nonchalant waitress found out specific details about the celebrant, she brightened up and I won't be surprised if she personally attended to the table's every want and need. I hope she gave the customers extra scoops of ice cream. I might be back when it's convenient and I'll be sure to find the perfect salmon roll. read more

Ive been been coming to this restaurant for almost 3 years ( back when it was called old town sushi) and I don't know why it took me so long to write a review but here it goes: I usually don't care about service as long as the food is good but after the last few times I've come here, I have only experienced impeccably consistent service each time. I got here when it wasn't busy and was seated almost immediately. After the first three minutes of being seated I was given a bowl of edamame. Shortly after you order, you are given a side of miso soup and salad. I almost forgot, but right before and after our meal they treated us to free potsticker appetizers and green tea ice cream. Overall, service is attentive, prompt, genuinely friendly, and who could argue about the free green tea ice cream??! I feel like a king each time! read more

I stopped by this restaurant on my way back from a wine country. As a visitor from SoCal, I didn't have time to research all of the top sushi joints in the Bay area. Even if I did, it would be difficult to get a reservation on such short notice. I started out with miso soup and two of my favorite cuts of nigiri: albacore tuna and salmon. For the salmon, I asked for a sprinkle of sea salt and a squeeze of lemon. IMHO, all salmon nigiri should be prepared this way. The pieces of nigiri were high quality and melt-in-your-mouth good. I also ordered a dragon and rainbow roll. The two rolls were on par with what I was used to getting at Shiro's in Seattle (where Jiro's apprentice worked before he got his own stint in NYC). I wanted to try some more rolls but,I was too full. However, I liked the dragon roll so much that I got another one for the road. To sum it up, I highly recommend O'Sushi if you are looking for high quality, good value sushi. read more

First time here!! I'm from Sacramento and just having my love and his mom taking me to all these wonderful food places in their area is lovely! So I tried this place out with them. They've been here many times. The service is wonderful! They have given us a few complementary dishes. Like the miso soup for me, and gyoza for all of us and ice cream at the end! That was very nice of them! We ordered udon soup(I forgot which one it was) sashimi and a poki roll. We all shared! Sharing is caring and it's better that way cause you get to try a little bit of everything :)! Every dish was amazing. I enjoyed every single yumminess! Low quality food and service for the price they charge. I won't go into the details of what we ordered but just for reference, the basic California roll, the crab meat (fake) is not even marinated, as they were just took out from the frozen pack and insert into the roll, it was tasteless, hard and disappointing. The service was so-so, we sat down for a while before they offer us the menus (the waiter literally asked "do you need a menu?" before he gets them for us, seriously is that even a question for your customers??), then when our food was delivered to our table and there were still no utensils until asked. I don't think this place deserve the high ratings, they offered free ice-cream at the end, but that doesn't compensate for the lack of service and quality of food. Won't come back again. read more

No. Really Newark? I won't be heading this way in lieu of much better nearby establishments. Free ice cream does not a 5 star sushi place make...Anyone who gave this 5 stars- I am sorry have you been to a 5 star sushi place? You really should check out other places with fresher fish, more selection of rolls, quality (they used rotten parts of avocado in my rolls and flipped it over!) see pic. It tasted weird and so I finally took a closer look and of course all of the nasty old part was on bottom. The tempura was not light and tempura like- I can only describe as heavy (almost American style) deep fried vegetables. Disappointing considering we took a trip this direction based in the reviews. The chicken teriyaki was burnt and tasted like it was cooked on an unclean grill. No. Will definitely not be back. read more
