One of my favorite places for breakfast/brunch. While it is a tiny spot and you may end up waiting outside, it is well worth the wait! The first time I went here I got the monte cristo sandwich, a half order of biscuits and gravy and my husband got an omelette. Needless to say it was so much food we had leftovers for both of us for breakfast the next day. The place is not big and was packed when I visited as it was brunch hour, even though it wasn't on weekend. You would expect they must be good since everyone flocks over here. The place is very casual, exactly what you would expect from a diner, although it's far more buzzing than diner in movies. They have their specials written on the blackboard with chalk and their regular on laminated menu. The menu is pretty big--sweet, savory, small bites, large meal, they got all the typical brunch stuffs. I got veggie omelette with fruit cup and pancake while my friend ordered the oh pebbles!, which really is fruity pebbles loaded pancakes, and tater tots. Portion is pretty good, filling but not too big. If you don't have much of an appetite you might even bring some home. The Oh Pebbles! was way too sweet for me, but the regular pancake is good. Meh. Don't know what people are raving about. First time here, got the banana cream French toast and a side of bacon and a coffee. $19 before tip. $5 for the side of bacon which wasn't even salty. Colored ceiling tiles is just strange to me. Was cold inside. Photos online show pancakes/etc coming with a side of syrup. There was none, just bottled syrup which is so 1990. Do better and get the real stuff. The cream in the banana cream didn't taste sweet at all, and some heftier pieces of toast would have been nice. Yeah it's only $10, but with 4.5 stars on yelp, I guess I'm expecting it to be better, that or people around here have a severe lack of taste and don't know what they are talking about. Wonderful breakfast place! Not a big place, if you cannot find a parking spot outside, there is no table for you available inside. They have many interesting twists on traditional breakfast food. Hidden gem and perfection! This diner in Royal Oak is a great place for breakfast and lunch. I ordered the avocado toast but got an extra poached egg. Their avocado toast is one of the best I've had and not overly priced (like many places do). It was simple but delicious: toasted multigrain bread, sliced avocado (not mashed - BONUS), poached egg, feta crumbles and the best part? They put a healthy spoonful of sambal oelek chili sauce on top which is the game changer to all avo toasts I've had before. Our server was awesome and the food options were fantastic - plenty of options for vegetarians and even vegans. The place has its own lot for parking. We did have to wait like 10 min once we got in, but tables opened up quickly and you seat yourself. I highly recommend this place and hope to come back soon! read more

Amazing that you can get pancakes or toast, so you know I'm getting pancakes! They're malty and fluffy and the perfect size for a side of pancakes. The amazing part? "The Norm" is $6.88. You're not crazy. I SAID $6.88 FOR ALL THAT FOOD! The rest of the menu is also very affordable and tasty, and their corned beef hash is on-point as well. Our first time at Oak Diner. We were happy to get a booth, I have heard this is a busy restaurant and I see why. Food was great, service was great and lots of parking. I ordered the special, called dirty Santa Hash. It had bacon, ham, sausage, potatoes, grilled chicken, jalapeños and onions with two eggs and toast. The portion was big, I brought half home. It was delicious, and made a hearty breakfast. My friend ordered the eggs Benedict. He was very happy with the dish and would order it again. A literal gem. This has quickly become my favorite breakfast diner along with any friends that have joined me. They have a really great menu full of unique choices along with specials every day that will wow you!! If the food doesn't wow you then the staff surely will! They make the experience an 11/10 from their attentiveness and friendliness, to the quickest service even on the busiest days. Rude service. We have never felt like the service is acceptable or nice here. The food is sloppy. Poorly plated reminiscent of a "last resort" pull off the highway only option in Indiana kind of place. It doesn't feel clean. The restaurant desperately needs a renovation. Everything feels sticky, greasy, it's worn and cracked and drab. Further, the waitresses literally turn away customers if you come 20 minutes before close. The servers don't want to work. It's 2:30 and you can't go eat brunch there because the waitresses want to go home. "Carry out only" is yelled from across the restaurant at people entering. How rude is that? No manners or respect for customers. I would recommend not going here. We have never had a good experience and always regretted going. read more

Went there for breakfast with a friend on a Sunday morning. First time for both of us. The place was very good. Good quality, good prices, good service. I'm not much of a "sweets for breakfast" person, so I had corned beef hash with eggs. The hash was homemade and did not have an overabundance of potatoes (cheap filler). It was covered in melted cheese (yay) and the eggs were done as I ordered them. My friend had one of the daily specials - pumpkin pancakes with pecan cream topping and chocolate chips. She has her choice of meat or eggs, and she went with eggs. I had a bite, and the pancakes were very good as well. The coffee was plentiful. I never saw the bottom of my cup. read more

The best breakfast place in Royal Oak!! I would say its even better than Toast. The prices are so much more fair and the menu is more broad. They're just really good at doing breakfast. The biscuits and gravy are delicious and you can't go wrong with any of their skillets. Their staff is very nice and fast.
