My mezcal cocktail was fun and refreshing, especially with the Tajin rim. My Scottish salmon came prepared exactly as I had requested, medium rare. I like how the dishes are lightly seasoned. We went here for OC restaurant week and were able to snag a great table overlooking the ocean. The starter beet salad was a bit underwhelming but as a beet fan, I still loved it. The tomato bisque was the highlight of the meal for sure!! Very creamy and rich. Only problem was that the little grilled cheese was too good to only have a tiny piece of, we wanted more. The mimosas were pretty and what you would expect. The chicken and waffles were not as great as the chicken wasn't seasoned enough. The waffle was cooked perfectly though! Located on the second floor, Oak has a cute vibe with both indoor and outdoor seating. We came for OC restaurant week and started with the grilled artichoke and the burrata, the artichoke being the favored appetizer. We chose the chicken Parmesan and the flatiron steak. The chicken Parmesan came with an arugula and raisin salad on top of it which was different but still good. Honestly just nothing to write home about. The steak had much more flavor and a really tasty sauce. It came with mashed potatoes and so many mushrooms which I love! For dessert we had the bread pudding and panna cotta which were both yummy! The panna cotta had so many interesting flavors with the lime gratings, blueberry compote and fresh vanilla bean. Visited during happy hours. Our server was too busy to serve guests at the bar. She barely took our order then, we didn't have a chance to see her after that. Our happy hrs burgers and fries were not freshly hot even there was not many guests. I am wondering foods were sitting before it get served right away. We disappointed about Calamari appetizer. What a beautiful restaurant. This is located on the second floor over looking the ocean. My husband had his company Christmas party here. Everyone loved it. The vibes are perfect for a holiday party. The place is decorated beautifully as well. I ordered the chicken parm, which was fantastic. I loved the salad it came with. The chicken was perfectly cooked. My husband had the duroc pork chop, and it was also amazing. We shared the meatball appetizer, ribs, and shrimp appetizer with his co-workers. All appetizers were great. The drinks are great too and there is a good wine selection. Service was one of the best we have had at a Christmas party. You really can't beat a beautiful location near the ocean. read more

Interesting slightly upscale restaurant in South Laguna. Walked in for dinner at 6.20 on a random Wednesday. Had our pick of tables in the restaurant. Not too many people there so we sat in a table that was on the border between outside/inside. We could see the water from our table. For appetizers we weren't feeling too hungry so we skipped and figured we'd just order mains (good call). Drinks I got a Tequila Sour. The server asked what tequila preference I had? I went with Don Julio Blanco. My girlfriend went with the Spicy Margarita. My Tequila Sour was alight. Just a standard tequila sour with sweetness, a little sour, and the slight taste of Don Julio. It was a decent pour and I felt slightly tired at the end of the drink (par for the course for me). The Spicy Margarita my girlfriend got was alright as well. Nothing to write home about, Tajin rim with a decent margarita mixture inside. I drank it and it wasn't as nice as the Marg's in South of Nick's but good enough to drink on a warm summer day. Foodwise main's we ordered were Chicken Parmesan and Fettucine Alfredo with Chicken. Both dishes were alright at best. The flavors, size, or the color plating didn't necessarily wow us. I have been coming to Oak since 2020; frequented the to-go menu through COVID. Over the years, it has become one of my favorite restaurants in Laguna. Having been born and raised here, I have seen a lot of restaurants come and go... On Sunday, my boyfriend and my friends helped throw a surprise birthday brunch for me at Oak. Tables reserved and decorated! One of my favorite bartenders (and a good friend), Sierra, went above and beyond to help set everything up, all the while getting ready for her shift. I am so grateful for my Oak friends. Tia, the owner is always so generous. Carmen, the GM, the servers, bartenders, and kitchen staff all made it special! I couldn't have asked for a better birthday! Despite the fact that Sierra still had an entire restaurant to worry about, she took care of us the entire day. All the food was delicious. One of my friends had the Salmon and said it was the best she had ever had. THANK YOU, TEAM OAK! After much consideration, I chose the Frosted Cranberry seasonal cocktail. Featuring cranberry gin and champagne, edible glitter, and a rock candy it was a true treat! I chose the ginger miso glazed salmon as my entree. The salmon was moist and flavorful and was on top of something called fried forbidden rice which was really good and now I'm googling how to make it at home! There were also two sauces including a pesto and a sriracha sauce that added amazing flavor. We experienced some timing issues with a couple people in our group having 15+ minute delays for their dish. Our waiter apologized profusely and brought some complimentary tacos out. The statements from the owner are incorrect. He never offered to process a refund or look into how to do that. He simply said it was not possible and had no way to do that. He only offered for me to come and dine there again and receive a $15 credit to do so. No thank you. He also said he had taken over the business 4 months ago and had been working on the wine list since then. It's now been another month and the old wine list is still published on the website. Even if new wines are being evaluated, it is not hard to print a paper menu in the meantime. The servers should also know what they are serving. I did leave a generous tip, as I always do, but the next day after reviewing the wine list online as well as dining at similar restaurants, I was pretty convinced we were scammed. I will not be back. I requested a small adjustment from my credit card company, not a refund of the entire bill. I did not publish any negative review until that request was denied in the very slim chance it was just an honest mistake. You knew and admit here that I was overcharged. If you were interested in making your customers happy you could have granted that. Instead you just want to argue even when you have already taken advantage of a customer. read more

We celebrated a wonderful birthday last night at Oak Laguna Beach. I was a little bit upset in the beginning as they lost my reservation. But they quickly made up for it and gave us a nice table. The restaurant is located on the second floor so you can really see the ocean. You can eat on the inside of the restaurant which is very nice but very loud or you can eat on their balcony which overlooks the ocean opposite PCH. The food is delicious. We had their chicken salad with avocado it was so yummy and their chilean Seabass. They have a signature birthday dessert that comes out it's like a bread pudding with ice cream on top and popcorn.. I'm gonna say I was not a big fan of it.. The texture was very rubbery :( However they do sing happy birthday to you so that's nice.... read more

While the view from the rooftop is great and the drinks aren't bad, the food really isn't anything to write home about and the service isn't impeccable. The skirt steak "taco" was disassembled, oily, and lacked imagination with the sides/sauces and the spicy chicken sandwich had a plastic-like bun. I was going to give this place 3 stars anyway because the food was not good and I didn't eat my fish at all and they comp me my fish and the bread pudding was gummy and heated up in the microwave but my husband ate it all so whatever. The pana cotta was soulless w half of broken store bought cookie and Hershey syrup. Few berry . I can bang out a green tea panna cotta that has depth and complexity so easy there is no reason they can't . The bread pudding was too sweet and gummy!! And heated in microwave one texture . I should of taken a picture of this it looked like French toast. But the fish was bad and tasted fishy. I took one bit and pushed it away . If you smother fish with sauce, it's not good fish. Plus the sundried tomatoes is not incorporated into the cream sauce it's not even warm neither is the artichoke. The items don't make sense . The grilled artichoke is a marinated artichoke. Its probably the best thing we ate along with calamari. The beet salad is mess. Nothing was cut consistently. You would get a gigantic red beet then small golden beet . Fig not grilled is not a good mouth feel . You really need to do something w raw fig. The nuts were even raw . My husband order the flat iron steak medium , no pink when it came out. Two were brought to us. We same on multiple time the server would bring out people food and it would go back in. I think they had them premade ? And he had calamari.. what made him sick . I don't know . We ate the same breakfast place two days in row . We ate the dinner place and same meal previously night and I'm fine . Came here for an early happy hour dinner since we'd driven by this place numerous times and it was always pretty busy....at least on their outdoor balcony dining area. I must say that we were quite impresses by this place.....it's clean, comfortable, and modern.....and everybody from the hostess to our server was so pleasant, friendly, and helpful. The regular and happy hour menus were filled with really yummy sounding dishes, and after having looked at some of the Yelp photos of some of them, we ended up ordering the Bar Burger with salad, Bar Chicken Sandwich with fries, Calamari, Roasted Cauliflower, and Crispy Ahi Tuna Tacos...and of course, everything went well with a nice cold glass of beer :) My wife ordered the burger and claimed it was really good....but not before she had issues with it that was immediately brought to our server's attention. We had ordered the burger unsalted and without any sauce in it, and this was made very clear from the beginning. However, the kitchen didn't pay attention and slathered sauce all over the bun, which my wife could not eat. Our server was nice enough to admit that the kitchen did make a mistake and offered to replace the burger with a new freshly made one. However, when my wife received the "new" burger just a minute or two later, we thought, that was really fast! This didn't seem right, and our suspicion were correct. The burger was taken from the first plate and simply placed on a clean bun. We knew this as my wife had cut the burger patty on half, and this was exactly the way it came back......not cool. My chicken sandwich was quite good...perhaps a bit salty, but still tasted hot, juicy and tender, and went well with those hot fries. The roasted cauliflower and calamari were very good too. The flavors were very different from regular calamari and roasted cauliflower we've tried elsewhere, but the recipes were uniquely created combination of flavors....I found them a bit strong at the first couple of bites, but once my taste buds got used to the new flavors, I really enjoyed them very much. The calamari was very nice thick French fry sized cuts of calamari steak, had a nice texture to bite on, but the breading lost it's crispiness by the time it got served. Ok, and for the absolute favorite dish of the evening? The crispy ahi tuna tacos. Oh boy, the fresh ingredients, the wonderful combination of flavors...likely from the cilantro and mint-chili sauce, all wrapped in a perfectly crisp wonton skin just worked so well together and made for an amazingly delicious bite. Overall, this was a very good experience. We had very good service, very nice ambiance....the place being very quiet at the time we came, and very delicious food. Ok, so, we also had an issue with the check where we were charged the regular dinner menu prices for some of our happy hour orders, but this was promptly taken care of by our server. The restaurant was fairly easy to find and the view was beautiful, but unfortunately we got sat on the back of the restaurant and didn't experience the beauty of it:( Food was good, pork chop was solid 7/10 as a whole dish, and the burger was 6/10, due to it being way too greasy and it tasted like any ordinary burger, nothing out of the world. We also had to wait for 17 minutes for our server to come by and take our order. Food took a while to come out but I think that was due to high volumes of customers, although they have a 90 minute time limit per table, so idk why the food took 20+ minutes long to be served.
