Oaxaca offers a delicious introduction to authentic Oaxacan cuisine, though it is definitely on the pricier side. The restaurant is quite small inside with very limited seating, but the outdoor patio is beautiful. Be ready to likely sit outside, but enjoy the atmosphere. We started with the mezcal old fashioned and the cucumber jalapeño margarita. The mezcal old fashioned was a delicious smoky twist on the classic cocktail. The cucumber jalapeño margarita was refreshing, though a little sweeter than I expected and missing the spicy kick I was hoping for. The guacamole was fresh and tasty, but the portion was quite small and barely enough for two people in my opinion. The salsa was also small but it was absolutely phenomenal. The chicken tacos were excellent, with tender chicken that was perfectly seasoned and full of flavor. The enmoladas were also fantastic and are a great way to sample Oaxaca's three unique mole sauces, each with its own distinct character. One thing to note is that the chicken filling is intentionally prepared very simply in traditional Oaxacan cuisine so that the mole remains the star of the dish. If you prefer heavily seasoned meat, this dish may be milder than what you are used to. Overall, everything we tried was delicious and offered a wonderful taste of authentic Oaxacan flavors. Our meal for two included one cocktail each, chips and guacamole, three chicken tacos, and three enmoladas, and came to about $100 with tip.

We walked in on this rainy day and were lucky to get the last table inside. This modern restaurant has only a few tables inside and two outdoor patios with colorful decorations. This would be a fun place to hang out with friends on a beautiful evening. Parking is only street parking but we had no problem finding free parking. This restaurant is part of Ernesto Delgados group and focuses on Oaxacan Mexican dishes. The dishes we tried were tasty. My favorite was the Tlayudas as the meat was so flavorful! I look forward to having the cafe de olla one morning or coming back for happy hour.

Black Mole, delicious and rich mole

Stopped by for lunch on a Sunday morning at Oaxaca and was promptly seated in their outdoor patio. The standout here is their mole sauce--rich, complex, and deeply satisfying. We had the black Mole and you can taste the layers of spice, chocolate, and slow-cooked depth in every bite. It's the kind of sauce that elevates everything it touches, whether it's poured over tender chicken or served alongside fresh tortillas (which by the way they have Blue corn tortillas). Also ordered the tacos de Barbcoa which were delicious with tender juicy beef. I ordered some "elote" which was very disappointing, the corn was bland and mushy..wouldn't recommend the corn on the cob. But if you want delicious Mole, then this is the spot for you!

WHY WE WENT HERE: - brunch THE LOOK (FROM THE OUTSIDE): - located on the triangle corner of Broadway, 34th St, and 3rd Ave - street parking only THE LOOK (FROM THE INSIDE): - pops of color and lots of wood and tile; a mix of modern and traditional notes THE MENU: - antojitos - soups & stews - ensalada - tamaleria - tacos + tacos + tacos - tlayudas & chilaquiles - exhibiting oaxaca entrees - kids - desserts WHAT WE ORDERED: - Cucumber Jalapeño Margarita - Watermelon Raspberry Margarita - Oaxaca Old Fashioned - Grilled Elote - Individual Mole Tasting - Herb Guacamole with Chapulines - Tamal Oaxaqueña de Pollo - Pozole Rojo - Churros de Cajeta THE TASTE: - the drinks were aesthetically pleasing and good - I would pass on the Grilled Elote, it was moreso boiled or steamed and then had toppings - Individual Mole Tasting was the best thing we had - Herb Guacamole with Chapulines was fresh, crunchy, and filling - Tamal Oaxaqueña de Pollo and Pozole Rojo was nothing to write home about; would pass on these - Churros de Cajeta was good CUSTOMER SERVICE: - warm and welcoming, but our friend's order was wrong 2x

Hibiscus Margarita and Grilled Chicken Tacos

Came for a weekday happy hour from 3-6pm and enjoyed a discounted hibiscus margarita. The tacos were very filling. The salsa and guac added the perfect flavor and tied the chicken and blue corn tortilla together well. The outdoor seating area was pet friendly and the server even brought out a bowl of water for my friend's dog. It seems like they have an outdoor bar area that wasn't open during the day but I'd like to see what the vibes are like later in the evening.

I have very mixed feeling about this place. I wanted to like it more... and if half stars are allowed, I'd give it 3.5 stars instead of 4... but I'll round up. NOT THE FOOD: - no parking lot; only street parking. I went for a very early dinner (a little before 5p) so no problem with parking. Street parking was free as well (not metered). - the decor inside is very nice and in keeping with the type of food that's served. yay. - the inside seating area is fairly small... there's only 4 or so 4-top tables & a bar that seats 8 or so? There seems to be a lot more seating outside though. - Our server was nice and patient as we took some time to look over the menu. SORT OF ABOUT THE FOOD: - They have a happy hour menu Mon-Fri 3p-6p; check out the other Yelp pics bc I didn't snap a pic myself. - The entrees don't come with rice & beans nor anything else. what you see on the menu is what you get. as such, the entrees are not terribly filling. they really should just slop on some rice & beans so they can be sure that you leave feeling full. THE FOOD AND DRINK: - Classic Mezcal Margarita: this was a fine, properly made cocktail. None of that nasty "margarita mix" here. $9 on happy hour. woo! - Guacamole: umm.. disappointing... rather bland; though, not diluted with sour cream or anything like that.. just kinda tasted like mashed up avocados.. there was a sprinkling of some red powder on top that I couldn't taste.. I didn't taste teh mint, basil, nor jalapeno that's described on the menu. It also came out refrigerator-cold, so that kinda muted the flavors as well. But I let it sit out throughout my meal to try it after it had "warmed" up a bit, but alas... still bland.. it was served with some salsa as well, which was quite nice. - Enmoladas: this is a trio of chicken enchiladas with each of their 3 moles: red, yellow, and black. The red and black mole were great; the yellow was kinda bland (at least, in comparison). Unfortunately, the chicken in my enchiladas was super bland. It tasted like there was zero seasoning & that they just poached it? And, the pieces of chicken were pretty thick too, which accentuated the blandness... so, I kinda mashed it up as I went along so I could get that delicious mole flavor mixed in with the chicken. - Tlayuda: this is kinda like tostada. it was okay. not great; not terrible. just fine. it ate kinda dry... like it needed some sauce... and, some spice would've been nice as well. this one will not really fill you up; it's more of an appetizer. - Kid's cheese quesadilla: this thing is pretty small; it uses the same tortillas as the tacos, so it's not very big/filling at all, but at least it comes with beans and rice. so, while I loved the margarita and the mole, there was a fair amount of disappointment along the way. perhaps, I'll stop by again if I'm in the neighborhood & would like a nice mezcal or tequila-based cocktail and a small bite to eat, but I'll think twice about having a full dinner.

Going to Oaxaca this afternoon felt a bit like a mini vacation! The atmosphere is so welcoming, festive and comfortable, and the food and beverages were delicious! My sister and I had the Michelina's, mine was with mezcal and hers with tequila. They were a great size and so tasty! We shared the barbacoa tacos and the guacamole/chips/salsa. The prices were reasonable and I can't wait to go back!

Came in on a Saturday afternoon. I initially wanted to go somewhere else, but that other place was busy. Luckily, Oaxaca was a nice cute restaurant in Oak Park! Not that many seating inside so we were seated outside. The Mole Tasting was pretty cool. Between the three different ones, it really confused me in a good way how one was sweet but another was more savory. I did have to ask for more chips as it felt like it wasn't nearly enough. I also ordered Tacos de Barbacoa, which was just okay. Overall, this is a nice place, but I don't see anything too special about it! Cute spot to hang out with friends.. it just wasn't for me. Even their drinks meny was sub-par

Delicious moles, and bright, cheery atmosphere at this new, more upscale Mexican restaurant. A creative menu with craft cocktails make this a unique eatery. Small indoor seating area but an expansive outdoor dining patio (though closed when we were there due to the cold and rainy weather). Was a bit disappointed that the kitchen ran out of chicken, but the carne asada made a nice substitute in the Enmoladas. Chips and salsa not included but can be purchased. Busy, but hard working, friendly wait staff. A bit pricier than typical Mexican fare, but the moles were well prepared and delicious.

So far, we've been here twice. Once just for cocktails during their soft opening, and the second time was last month (October) to check out the 2025 Sacramento Vegan Chef Challenge menu. That first visit was really fun as the cocktails were delicious and staff were friendly, welcoming, and talkative. The second visit was a little less inviting, but the food and drinks were still quality. Furthermore, I very much appreciate their participation in this year's Vegan Chef Challenge and the variety of vegan options offered. I had wanted to order the appetizer that showcased the three vegan moles, but our server must have misheard me I thought at first, because she asked which mole I wanted. I don't know why I didn't just repeat myself, but I said amarillo, thinking maybe I was the one who misread and you could pick one in appetizer size instead of all three? Turns out no, I should have repeated myself. No matter. I ended up with the entree for the amarillo mole with plantains, which was so tasty, and plenty to share with DO. No disappointment there, though our server was all business. Also ordered was the jackfruit and red mole vegan tamale that comes with a sample of the mole negro, so I did get to try them all! The tamale was a little dry, but Dave says it's very hard to make a tamale without lard. It tasted great regardless, honestly. Additionally, we ordered the guacamole to share, along with a meat eater entree for mi amor, I forget which. Everything was very good, we agreed. The mole negro was my favorite of the three moles. Nothing will ever beat Dave O.'s Auntie Coco's mole, but the chefs here were doing amazing work. I also loved my watermelon raspberry marg. Don't skip ordering drinks here, even if you don't drink alcohol (if you're a fresh fruit juice person I mean, by all means do what you want). They have such fresh ingredients and pull out all the stops. We also like the atmosphere and decor, though the last visit had us sitting close to a med student talking mess about blessedly mostly other staff and not patients. They were kind of loud, but at the same time it was interesting to listen to lol. We would definitely come back if in the area. Thank you Oaxaca for participating in the 2025 Sacramento Vegan Chef Challenge! Parking: street, unmetered, no attached lot Bathroom Report: available, but did not visit Vegan Corner: they have had vegan options both times I have visited, but I am unsure how many they have at any given time

Foods is very delicious and authentic. If you want to have a great experience training authentic Oaxaca flavors; This is the place. The decoration is really colorful. Service is really good, people are very friendly. If you like mezcal or want to try it for the first time, I recommend your hai place. They have a big variety of mezcals. The only inconvenience of this place, they have only 4 tables inside, when the weather is cold outside you have to wait a lot to get a table inside. Besides that the places is perfect.

    Beautiful patio seating.

Great atmosphere, awesome service, and yummy food! If not sure what mole to try, don't worry, they have mole tasting and from there you can decide which one is your fave, and believe me, it won't be easy! One of my favorite dishes is the barbacoa tacos. Delicious!

This is a cool spot in Oak Park in Sac. Easy to drive by as it doesn't look like much from the street. We came on a drizzly evening and sat inside. Not a lot of tables. Large outside patio which looked awfully inviting had the weather been nice. Small inside bar. Colorful decor. They are known for their mole which we ordered. Unfortunately, they were out of chicken which was disappointing so we had beef. Still very tasty. Chicken next time! Tequila Cocktails are quite popular. Nice to see more & more eateries popping up in Oak Park

We ended up going with a few drinks that day. -Strawberry Negroni-($13.00)-This one blew my socks off-my favorite drink in the works is a Negroni but this bar makes a Strawberry version of it and let me tell ya-it's dynamite-10/10 rating -Old Fashioned-($12.00)-This is my go-to order at most bars because it's pretty reliable and most bars can make a decent one and I'd say they make a very solid one here-8.2/10 rating -Cucumber Gimlet with Tequila-($11.00)-This drink was made with lime-sweet vermouth and tequila-it was very refreshing and went down way too easy-rating 8.4/10 -Mezcal mystery drink-($12.00)-This was a drink the bartender made that after we declared our love for the smokiness of mezcal-I wouldn't be able to ask for it again unless I got the same waitress but if your a mezcal lover like I am-this drink was top of the line-smokiness intensity off the charts-9.1/10 rating So a little about the place that I picked up during my visit-I guess they serve food-I didn't know that but after my 2nd drink I looked back and saw this entire dining area with table side grills-so I guess the customers cook their own meats and such-pretty cool concept-my visit was strictly a drinking visit so I didn't partake but it looked pretty cool. I guess they are opened most days from 4p-12am and until 2am on Friday and Saturday nights. They do not have a dedicated parking lot for this bar but they are located near 34th and Broadway-so unlimited street parking is available for those who drive here. In closing-I really really enjoyed my visit to The Butterscotch Den and I was pretty sure I had found my new favorite bar in Sacramento with a bar in the Ice Blocks but I am pretty sure that has changed and The Butterscotch Den is my new favorite bar in the greater Sacramento area-if you find yourself looking for a new spot to enjoy some adult beverages or maybe looking for a date night spot-don't hesitate to make your way over to The Butterscotch Den-the place is a true hidden gem. PS-They have a Disco Ball in their lounge area and a vintage non-working cigarette machine-the coolest I tell ya.

This is a great spot, especially on Tuesdays. It's game night! Was just there and the owner, Jason…read morewas calling out bingo with his bro pulling numbers. They also have a Plinko set up going (if you watch the price is right you know what I'm talking about) where you get to play to get discounts on drinks. Awesome! The bartenders are cool (props to Deanna). She makes a mean old fashioned. Interestingly enough, it comes out of a tap! Who knew? Any day is a great day to visit. The food is good, the drinks are good, and so is the crowd. Check it out!

There is only street parking so it can be difficult to park and the restaurant does not have a parking lot. My friend wanted to try the matcha waffles so went to try it on a Sunday afternoon. The place was pretty crowded inside and all the seats were taken. They did have a good amount of outdoor seating which consisted of picnic tables for larger parties. It was overcast and cold so we were looking it for indoor seating but we ended up sitting outside. You go to the bar inside to order and then you are given a number and then a server brings your food out to your table. I went with 2 friends so I saved our table for us so it wouldn't get taken while they went to order for me. I ordered the short stack ube mochi pancakes which was only $6 for 2 pancakes which was so cheap! I was shocked at the price! If you want the full stack it is $12 which is still such a great deal. The pancakes came with strawberry and pineapple fruit topping, coconut shavings, and caramelized condensed milk syrup. The pancakes were chewy and soft and not too sweet and had good ube flavor. My fellow elite Yelp friend ordered the matcha waffles which was a large portion but she said the waffles lacked strong matcha flavor. I looked at the rest of their menu and wanted to try their savory Filipino dishes such as the loco moco. Overall, the ube pancakes are delicious and such a great deal! I want to go back to try the rest of their savory Filipino dishes next time!
