I came to Obon with my friend, we both had high expectations. I was really in the mood for Ramen and sushi. We were sat by a very sweet hostess who let us know the specials and that our server would be with us shortly. Shortly turned into 10 minutes. Another guest was sat next to us. The server came out walked by us and asked him for his order. The server never came back to greet us or get our order. We decided to leave as we did not have a lot of time. As we were walking away from we could see the server outside talking to two three people clearly ignoring her job duties inside the restaurant. Sad to say I will not be coming back. I appreciate timely and attentive service and if you do as well I would suggest choosing one of the many other establishments in downtown Phoenix instead. read more

I've been to plenty of restaurants in this category including Bisutoro and this was, without competition, the lowest quality of them all. Next, the outdoor seating. If you enjoy eating while your eardrums are assaulted, this is the place for you. The music is so loud it feels less like ambiance and more like a cry for attention. Management, a quick note: if the food were actually good, you wouldn't need nightclub-level volume to lure people in. For the price I paid, I expected a dining experience. What I got was disappointment with a side of noise pollution. I could have gone to Bisutoro, paid the same (or less), and actually enjoyed quality food in a pleasant environment. The atmosphere and vibes were very relaxing and beautiful. The food was good, although the fried rice was a little bland and undercooked meat. They were out of ramen options and only had vegan or the spicy one available. There were gnats hovering over our table the entire time, which was annoying. Never got offered a refill but did get asked if we were done three times and if we needed boxes, which felt more like getting pushed out. Had issues checking out, misunderstanding with our waitress but we were clear in communication. Walking to the restroom, I saw more gnats surrounding the bar and in the restroom. Great atmosphere don't get me wrong, but the service was a bit confusing. I ordered an octopus nigiri coming to a total of 12$ thinking it would come with 4 of them, however they only brought out 2. I'm not sure if I'm just uneducated on sushi stuff or whatever, but 6$ for something that is barely bigger than a 25 cent quarter seems a bit too much. The sushi's were also a size of a quarter and wasn't to flavorful also the presentation was good. The Sushi chef pointed to the yellowtail belly that was in the display and said I recommend that then he ordered it from the kitchen and out of the kitchen came a different looking yellowtail that was foul tasting. This was such a sad place to eat sushi at for my birthday. The rice was undercooked (hard and crunchy). When we asked them to remake the sushi with a different batch of rice, they gave us the exact same hard crunchy rice with the new order. On top of that, they told me they would have a special dessert for my birthday. They never brought out the special dessert for my birthday. It was a sad disappointment. I even asked if hard, crunchy, not throughly cooked rice was the usual or traditional, and the waitress said no. Highly don't recommend. So sad. :( read more

Our party was tucked into the furthest corner of the building and it seemed like the server had difficulty getting to half of our table because of a wall hiding a storage area that the table looked into. The food came out at completely different times, the server seemed to have forgotten to put in orders throughout the meal (one order came out after everyone else had finished eating), and one person in our party had to find the manager to ask for water 45 minutes in because this place serves water in 6 ounce glasses (maybe 8oz, idk, but small), and the server didn't check in or leave a pitcher. The server had to be asked several times for soup spoons, reminded of cocktail and soft drink orders, and was generally unavailable for a good portion of the meal. If you go, I would recommend a small party (maybe 2-4 max) and avoid any time that may be busy. The place was only half full during our meal. read more

Had brunch at the new Obon location over the weekend and it was AMAZING! The space is so beautiful and such a vibe. Service was top tier, and the food was amazing as always. This was my first time here for brunch and we ordered the pork belly Benedict (incredible) and the avocado toast (also amazing) but the star of the show was the Matcha Einspanner. I made a reservation for a table of three at 11am (their opening time) yet we were told they had already run out of the French toast. What a disappointment. What made it worse was that this was the only "sweet" option on the brunch menu, and no alternatives were offered. Outside of brunch, they don't offer dessert options either. Came in last weekend with a large party to celebrate a birthday. We had 2 more wanting to join us that evening so we called to increase our reservation & were told we were not able to add any more guests because we were going to be seated in a private room & they would not fit. Totally understandable, except when we arrived, we were not in a private room, just the main dining & there was an empty 2 top next to our table the entire night that we could have easily slid over for our additional 2 guests to join, not to mention multiple empty booths as it wasn't very busy. Our server chris came by to take drink orders & then back for the food order & we did not see him again. No 2 bite checks & we had to ask other employees for water several times. 2 of our appetizers came out cold but our server was no where to be found. At the end we saw the our check was an auto-grat at 20% so it made sense why service wasn't great. The rest of the food was good, but overall the terrible service & being told they could not accommodate 2 more guests when they clearly could doesn't sit well with me. This was my first impression of this restaurant & i can honestly say we will not be back, the experience was very disappointing. read more
