We had a fantastic reunion dinner with a bunch of friends at Ocean Prime. The place feels special as soon as you walk in, and our waiter was unusually helpful and patient in dealing with a table of eleven indecisive patrons! The wine selection was perfect, and the seafood tower was not only a visual tour de force, but mighty tasty as well. The selection of fish was broad and the seasoning varied enough that everyone found something delicious to eat. My wife continued her schedule of having lobster at least once every day while we were in Boston, and she loved her broiled lobster tails. I had the Sea Bass, which was just slightly undercooked for my taste, but seasoned perfectly. We had plans for dessert elsewhere, so cannot comment. All in all, a perfect meal. read more

This is an update review. The GM truly cares about what customer thinks and it's impressive to admit to fault and compensate. I understand we're human but it's not excusable. The customer service I receive on my second visit was top notched this time around. Our server was very attentive and made recommendations and repeated the daily special twice. Our glass were never empty and our party was very comfortable with our second experience. I overheard there was some issue of the soup of the day and saw they they handle the situation and I thought it was impressive. It's not what you say, it's how you say it. The food was much better this time around too. Our food was piping hot, how it's suppose to be. The Truffle mac and cheese taste even better this time around and I thought the first was good already. Very cheesy and saucey plus it was piping hot when it was serve. We order the daily special surf and turf, came with a lobster tail and 4 or 8 oz filet. Cook to perfection. My Kansas strip with oscar style was also cook to perfection. Dessert we order two this time. chocolate Peanut butter mousse and the pound cake. Again it did not disappoint. Over all my experience was soo much better than the first. I took one star off because of the last experience, it left a sour taste but second time was great. 4 star grade. read more

We came sat night as usual I always think there won't be a long wait for a table as I always fail to make a reservation, so we ended up sitting at the bar, they had a two man group playing some very cool and chill music, that made it better as I hate places that are loud, the drinks were great I asked the bartender for something sweet with vodka in it, he did come through with a nice sweet drink that i really enjoyed, the service at the bar was great, we ordered the deviled eggs never had them before they were very good, for dinner it was the salmon teriyaki and the Chilean sea bass both good but for the price wasn't like wow this is the best average place with high prices. read more

For my brother's birthday dinner. What a pleasant experience. Let me start by saying I completely dislike when a server/wait(er)(ress) makes you feel rushed because it's near closing time. That didn't happen here! The service was pleasant. Food was delicious. The bread was pretty good, not a sourdough fan so I can't vouch for that one. Everyone enjoyed their meal. The chicken was perfect full of flavor and juicy. Far far from dry. The Mac and cheese side was in a perfect bèschamel sauce. The mash was perfect and fluffy, yes and tasty. Everyone from the servers to our waitress to other guests were all so friendly, giving off a great vibe throughout the space. Bar was rocking as we exited to our next destination. We went here for a Valentine's Day lunch and I felt like royalty. The food was delicious although I wasn't the biggest fan of the potato cake, but still delicious. We both ordered the filet mignon and lobster bisque. The lobster bisque was the best I've ever had anywhere. It was just perfect, I wouldn't have changed a thing. The steak was cooked to perfection. Specially from NYC I believe they price their food a little higher than the taste. So I can't say this enough but Yelp should really allow for 1/2 stars. I would like to have 3 1/2 stars listed here, for the record. 3 1/2 stars to me = some was good some was great and I'd go again to try something else but wont be rushing to do that. For my boyfriend's birthday I like to take him to a place for a good steak, this came up on my list to try. We were greeted with a smile from the host table and brought to our table a little earlier then our reservation time. The restaurant was clean and had a nice atmosphere. The only thing I did not care for was the obvious visibility of the server station. It is one thing I just dont understand. I've been in the restaurant business for over 20yrs and know patrons do not want to see that. Not that we saw anything horrifying but in general seeing servers touching everything can be uninviting. All it takes is a server to touch their face or head and then reach for a fork, knife or napkin and it could make some people cringe. Moving past that, our server arrived promptly with a smile but seemed to lack any care, more like going thru the motions. We could clearly hear a difference between our server and the server taking care of the tables behind us with a much friendlier nature. After our appetizer order was taken the server never came to check on us which was unfortunate as I had wanted to order a drink. By the time we were finished and he came to take our plates and THEN ask us how everything was, I no longer wanted the drink. We ordered a French onion soup and the surf n turf appetizer. Both were delicious, the scallop was a tad over cooked and the short rib lacked a bit of salt but still tasty. Our entrees arrived just before I would have questioned how long we've been waiting. My boyfriend got the filet mignon which he thought was very good. I ordered the Florida Grouper which was very good, again though a tad overcooked but the flavors made up for that. We also ordered the truffle mac n cheese which sadly was a disappointment. It was somewhat gummy and not velvety smooth as expected. Flavor was still good but when you dont have the right texture it's not the same. We finished our entrees and ended up wrapping up the mac n cheese to bring home as to not waste it. For dessert we had the cheesecake and warm butter cake. We were surprised to see the portion size of the dessert as it was more than expected. Both were delicious. We ended up wrapping up our desserts as we couldn't finish them. One thing we did not appreciate though was when we had our mac n cheese wrapped up, the server that had cleared it from the table and brought back to us in a bag was greasy. The handle of the bag was clearly oily not wet as I attempted to wipe it with a tissue. Not that that can't happen but makes you wonder what had been touched prior to packing up our leftovers and also not to notice their hands were dirty. I almost asked for another bag but let it go. Overall we enjoyed the food but the service was lackluster and just ok. We would go back but we're not rushing to do that. As always never take my word for it and try it yourself. read more

Went for my 42 anniversary and identified that special dining when I made reservation. Checked in at front desk gentleman wished us a happy anniversary which was greatly appreciated. Meal was top notch as usual as this is our special occasion restaurant. Sorry to say no mention of our anniversary by waitress and in past desert was complimentary for our special occasion. Not so tonight, I know it's not a given but nice gesture after $350 meal to offer a complimentary $15 desert. I dined at Ocean Prime in October while I was visiting Boston with friends. I was so excited based on reviews and the Seaport location but was completely disappointed. I visit the city twice a year with a group of ladies and have dined in about a dozen different steakhouses and can honestly say this was the worst experience I've had. In fact, this is probably the worst steakhouse I've ever been to period. Our well dressed group of five professional women were seated in the corner of a back, sound proofed private room on a Saturday night so couldn't enjoy the atmosphere or music. We didn't speak up about this but should have or the hostess should have informed us about where she was seating us. We found this to be highly insulting, as we were being punished with a time out in the corner. I figured my delicious meal would have made up for this but that was not the case. My filet was served with a cut down the center. Not a butterfly, a knife slice. I've never seen steak served this way before, I guess the chef doesn't know how to cook medium vs medium well. The taste and quality of the steak were subpar. The brussels sprouts were dry. Our waiter seemed overall confused with no personality. Maybe he was new and if that was the case, he should have been trailing someone. The only positive was that the staff kept a smile on their faces even though their competence was questionable. Steakhouses should have a professional wait staff, this was more like students needing part time work. If you are looking for a hot bar scene with good live music where you need to fight the crowd to get a drink, this is your place. If you are looking for a top quality steakhouse, go anywhere else. read more

Went here for an Xmas party last night and had a great time. The waiter was phenominal, funny and very attentive. He was a pro. The restaurant had a comfortable but cool fee. It was louder than I would've hoped for that upscale a restaurant. They had valet parking ($22 with tip). Conveniently located in the Seaport. We got crab cakes, calamari and goat cheese ravioli appetizers (family style), al were excellent. I got the filet which was good and came with masked potatoes and green beans (the sides were kind of lame). For dessert I got the carrot cake cheesecake, quite good. Overall it was a good experience but when you consider the meal alone was $100 before drinks, there are lots of restaurants that are better for that money. I was visiting Boston from out of town and needed a place for dinner. We searched a couple places and Ocean Prime kept coming up as being amazing. We were a group of 4 girls who needed reservations ASAP! We called and the staff got us in pretty quickly. The restaurant exterior is on a corner and it looks pretty small when you enter because of the bar up front. But don't let that fool you! We quickly got seated - the restaurant it self is dark, clean and it was packed! Our waiter was AMAZING I'm so sad I forgot his name because he was the best waiter we have ever had! We ate the complimentary bread along with our drinks and then placed our order for our steaks. All of us LOVED our steaks!! We had sides of garlic mash which was ALSO so delicious!!! For desert we went with the butter cake and ice cream SO GOOD!!! I have to say this is probably the best restaurant with the best customer service I've ever had. 100/100! read more

Excellent from beginning to end. The only small complaint is they say the sides are family style for sharing. For two people this is fine but more than that it wouldn't be enough. Our dining experience at Ocean Prime Boston was disappointing. We were a party of 6 and made a reservation for an outdoor table at 8:00pm. Upon our arrival just prior to our 8:00pm reservation, we were told that a table was not available and it would be a few more minutes. During this time we were asked to wait by the door, but then shortly after we were told we could not wait by the door and we were not given another alternative. This resulted in half of our party waiting outside of the restaurant. After standing for over 30 minutes, we were finally sat at our table, however, it was not until 10:00pm that we were served our meal. Additionally, during this time the women's restroom was completely out of paper towels and almost every stall had no toilet paper available. Finally, upon leaving we found that the valet drivers left our car unattended at the end of the street running (not even in front of the restaurant).  I reached out privately to OP Boston via email but never received a response, hence posting about our experience here. Given the high quality reputation and the standards for the brand, as well as the prices we paid for our meal, we were very disappointed in our treatment while dining here. read more

This place has a lively ambiance, particularly in the main dining room. We started with drinks: the bitters in the Manhattan gave it a unique flavor (this is a good thing) and he dry ice in the series and Bubbles made for a fun presentation. There are lots of things to choose from on the menu: we went with lobster bisque, a couple of filets (one blue cheese crusted) and shared the black truffle mac and cheese. The bisque had a healthy amount of lobster in it and was pretty good, though not the best I've had. The steaks were perfectly prepared and matched nicely with our wines. The black truffle mac and cheese was fantastic! All in all, a very good meal with attentive and friendly servers. So why the low rating? My score reflects my overall experience, not just the first part of the evening in the dining room. There was live entertainment in the bar area thus we decided to stick around and have a few post dinner beverages while listening to the music. We enjoyed several drinks from the scotch menu and then decided to call it a night. As I went to sign my credit card receipt, I noticed that the bill seemed just a touch higher than it should be. I quickly scanned the itemized receipt and saw that I was charged more for each scotch than what was listed in the menu. No big deal--perhaps I got an old menu or some other simple issue here but I wanted to check with the bartender. He immediately and rudely blurred out "Tax. You have to pay tax." I pointed out that tax is a separate line item and that indeed the drinks were higher than listed. He then called a manager over to fix the error. I was still curious to understand the source of the problem and he proceeded to tell me that there is a surcharge when someone orders a drink near or on the rocks. I was flabbergasted as I don't know how else people tend to order off a scotch menu and queried further. He became defensive, stated, "I took care of the charge, what else do you want?" and stopped making any eye contact with me. I don't care about the money as it was a nominal amount but I do care about the principle. The bartender refused to give me a reasonable explanation which is fundamentally all I wanted. Is this an unscrupulous up charge that customers may unwittingly pay at the end of the night or is there a more benign explanation? Who knows. But unprofessional behavior that gives the perception of unethical practices leaves a bad impression in my book. read more

I was extremely disappointed with my experience here. I went here for my birthday to try it out. To begin, the waiter is noticeably annoyed that we didnt order enough and literally says it to the waiter next to him (I ordered a $50 steak and my girlfriend had 2 appetizers......). The food comes and the steak is well done rather than medium (I just paid $50 for a steak its not ok to mess that up). The steak has no flavor whatsoever, no butter or salt or anything. I had to get A1 sauce because it was that bad. My girlfriend's salad is just drenched in dressing to the point that she can only taste dressing. The waiter checked on us once and again you could tell he was pissed the whole time that we didn't order more. Thanks Ocean Prime for making me feel cheap ordering a $50 steak and then giving me a terrible steak. Thanks for ruining my birthday. I will never be going to any Ocean Prime again. read more
