I ordered the Yuzu Osmanthus hot, while my friend got it cold. My husband went with the Wintermelon Lemon, and another friend tried the Champion Milk Tea. I have to admit, my Yuzu Osmanthus tasted pretty watered down, but I really enjoyed the Wintermelon Lemon--it was flavorful and refreshing. Saw this on an Instagram Reel and my girlfriend and I had to try it! We opted for 50% sweetness Champion Milk Tea and Yuzu Osmanthus with Jasmine Tea Jelly. The flavor of the tea was strong while still maintaining the balance of the sweetness. They also had free samples of the two drinks so you could try. Was pleasantly surprised to find that Odd One Out opened up in Pasadena. I wasn't a big fan of their main location in Sawtelle, but wanted to give it another try now that they're in the 626 area. Located in Old Town adjacent to Mama Lu's - parking isn't the most ideal, but you can easily find a street parking or a cheap lot and walk over. What sets Odd One Out is that they have authentic and premium teas, make their own toppings, and use the chaspresso machine when brewing the teas. However, drinks are definitely in the higher price range. If you end up getting a large with toppings and milk, you might find yourself looking at a $10 drink! I came on a Saturday evening and there wasn't too many people. Tried a few toppings and ended up going with the iron Buddha milk tea with coconut almond jelly ($7 + $1) in a regular sized cup with adjusted sugar and tea. I thought perfect sugar was just right, and I could really taste the quality of the tea. Also, really enjoyed the almond jelly. I wish price point was a bit cheaper - can't justify paying almost $10 each time I want to grab a drink. Also tried the red oolong milk tea ($7). This was lighter in flavor - could taste both the milk and the tea flavors. I liked the other drink a bit more. Drinks came out fairly quickly for being such a tedious concocting process. Dropped by for their Grand Opening BOGO deal. The line wrapped around the block but the wait wasn't too bad. About an hour or so. I will say that they are very efficient compared to a few other boba stores who had a Grand Opening special. As far as their drinks, I felt like their more popular drinks (Champion MT/Golden Buddha MT) didn't live up to the hype. My family tried a few others: Yuzu Osmanthus: Nice and refreshing but really really sweet. They recommended perfect sweet but I should have gotten less sweet. My throat was hurting of sweetness after a few sips. Icy Peak Milk Tea: Tasted quite watered down. There wasn't much of a tea flavor to it. Jasmine Green Milk Tea: Your standard Jasmine milk tea, can't go wrong! They recommended less sweet for this and it was good. Blue Matcha: The lavender was very strong, which could be good or bad depending on your preference. I enjoy lavender lattes but this seemed to get overwhelming. I think the service and toppings are what puts their drinks above par. I really like how chewy and silky the toppings were. I went to the grand opening for their BOGO deal and waiting approximately 45 minutes. I wouldn't wait in that line again for boba, no matter how good it is. BUT I'm excited for the hype to die down so I can frequent this spot when I'm craving a tea forward drink. I would recommend this spot to those who don't like sweet drinks and actually care about the quality of their tea. I wouldn't recommend this spot to the fruit tea lovers (especially since they don't really have them). I arrived at Odd One Out on a Saturday afternoon right after lunch, and there was a long line out the door. I had to wait about 15 minutes for the tea. I really like the interior of the shop and think that it is in a good location for activity, but unfortunately the milk tea was not to my group's taste. The tea's flavor really shine with its complex blend of nuttiness and mellow sweetness. The milk adds some creaminess and sweetness, further ehancing the tea. The biggest surprise for me was the jasmine silk boba. Instead of a tapioca ball, the jasmine silk is more like a jelly that has a firm chew and provides a sweet, fresh, floral flavor profile that complimented the tea. The tea was very good! I can see why this place is so popular. Personally, I wasn't a fan of the jasmine silk boba. I wouldn't even call it "boba" it's a jelly shape with the boba texture. It was too large and chewy for me! Though the flavor was good. It's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area, but with the high prices, I'm not sure we'll be back when there are other tea shops in the area. Staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and while there was a line, we received our drinks around 5 minutes after ordering. There is no seating and the shop is very small. One of my favorite boba alternative places is now much closer! Like its Sawtelle location, it's a grab and go, but still the same great flavor I remember. If you can't handle a ton of caffeine, remember that the jasmine tea jelly has some, but it's so I just pair it was a non-caffeinated drink. I wish they had more non-caffeinated options, but the ones they do have are solid. Finally a tea place where the default sugar level is 50%! That's usually my go-to everywhere to avoid overly sugary drinks. I got the pistachio strawberry matcha. I accidentally ordered a large size and this place is kinda pricy but the drink was really good! I'm glad I got the large. I've had loads of matcha teas and some have a one-note taste or too watery. But this was just right. And normally I don't like toppings in my drinks but the pistachio bits was a nice touch. The server was friendly and great. I haven't been hyped for an opening for a long time, and this is definitely one I've been waiting for! I used to drive to the Sawtelle (and Santa Monica when I was in the area) just to get their tea/boba drinks, and I am so so happy they just opened one in Pasadena. The store is small so it's definitely a pick up type of spot, and they're still in soft opening but they do have online orders already (only for pick up). Quality and consistency is the same as the other stores, and if it's your first time you have to get the champion milk tea with their house-made jasmine silk boba. You honestly can't go wrong with anything on the menu, they source their tea leaves from independent farmers from Taiwan and then brew using the teapresso method. I have tried a lot from their yuzu osmanthus to their iron buddha, matcha pistachio strawberry, and more. They're officially opening on 2/21 and plan on also doing delivery which will be the best part for me. So so glad they're here in Pasadena and I'm ready for them to take all of my money!! haha read more

I've been so excited to try this place. Immediately when I saw the location i was dreading it because it was in downtown. But surprisingly we were able to get parking right in front of the shop! The place itself is very small and it could only fit about 8-10 customers. The person the register was very nice and offered explanation to any of the different teas. We decided to go with the Golden Buddha with Jasmine jelly and the Icy Peak with coconut boba. I liked both of the drinks. They has a very nice roasted deep flavor. As for the Jasmine jelly, I really liked the texture. It was very bouncy. The boba didn't taste like coconut? And i felt like it was too soft like they over cooked it :(. Came by for the BOGO on Friday at 11:45 and waited about a little under an hour to order and receive our drinks! I was so surprised on how efficient they were! Especially on a BOGO deal day, bravo to the entire team and a streamlined workflow process. They had small samples in the front for you to try: yuzu osmanthus and champion milk tea. Tbh I'm surprised they won awards for their tea. The champion tea was pretty watered down as a milk tea, floral but way too light of a flavor for my preference. I normally like toasty/roasted oolong so here's what I ordered instead: - 4/5 the golden Buddha as it's supposed to have a nuttier flavor, but it wasn't as strong as I would have liked. I almost want to say there's a milkier taste that overrides the tea. I ordered Jasmine silk boba and i want to say it kind of counters the flavor of the iron Buddha. Not sure if I would recommend Jasmine boba with this combo. It'll decrease the roasted notes, because the Jasmine is more on the floral side. I Overall, not the best but slightly above subpar. - 4.5/5 the pistachio iron Buddha oolong. I wasn't sure how I felt about this drink until maybe 30 mins later in but I really ended up liking it much more!! There are pistachio bits that they put in the drink so there's also a good crunch with every sip. What I liked most about it is that they used real pistachio's to build the flavor and it was a very well-rounded drink. I got this with the WM silk boba and thought it was a perfect combo! The WM is a bit on the sweeter side compared to the other boba options and strongly compliments this much more. 5/5 for the silk bobas!! I really love it's a bit on the chewy side but also still soft. It's def chewier than toro tea's mochi jelly and I like it more. Overall, customer service was amazing. It was a really good BOGO experience and the cashier was really patient with all my questions and was so helpful with his own suggestions/recommendations. However, I don't think this is award quality milk tea IMO. Is it good milk tea? Yes. Is it the best? No. Is it worth the price of $10/drink? Definitely not. I didn't find their signature drinks out of the ordinary which is what their motto is. The pistachio milk tea was by far the best one that was extraordinary. I came with my fiancé, my SIL and her fiancé. I tried a good rotation of drinks so I feel like my opinion stands to say OOO did not blow my mind and I wouldn't go out of my way to come here unless they have some interesting new seasonal specials. read more
