I am a die hard IN-N-OUT lover but during my stay in Florida, I found a smash burger place (because they don't have an IN-N-OUT there) and I actually found a place out in Orlando that totally blew my mind so upon returning to California I have been searching for a smash burger place that isn't IN-N-OUT~ First off, it's a bit pricey, but to me, if is satisfies the taste buds and hits the spot then I am willing to pay whatever. First sense, I was hit with the smell and it smelt divine, pretty close to IN-N-OUT with the caramelized onion scent. Now the sight of it. It looked decent, burger looked to be on the smaller side but then again it doesn't include lettuce or tomatoes so that explains the lack of volume. Upon first bite, I was met with a lump of stringy onions, the taste of it was alright but I couldn't bite into it, ended up with a mouth full of onions, all of the onions in fact-- may I suggest doing chopped so that all the onions aren't consumed in the first bite. Buns could have used a little more roasting, they were a bit soggy. Right by the shop a Yelp review is on display talking about the perfectly crisp edges, I did experience it at the very end, the very last bite and it was pretty good, probably the best bite. The fries were very salty, the seasoning is tasty but too overpowering. And I do not suggest getting the grilled cheese, I discovered that there is such thing as too much cheese. We only finished half of it and that was due to the feeling of not wanting to waste it. Couldn't bring ourselves to touch the second half-- suggestions, less oil (bread was very oily) and easy on the cheese, like cut the amount in half. And perhaps offer chopped caramelized onions for a bit more flavor~ Would I recommend this place? Unfortunately not after this experience. Would I try it again? If suggestions are considered and changes are made, yes, definitely! But as it is now, not likely. In conclusion, this place missed the mark for me and I would much prefer IN-N-OUT-- better taste, texture, presentation and price point~ read more

Ordered a double, protein style (they don't have lettuce so its just the meat), and my husband ordered a double combo, and we got 2 bottled drinks and it was $40+ tip. Which, even as a california native is a bit steep, but the burgers were both very good. I am a very loose celiac, and I tried a bite of my husband's and the bun was very good! Though we both hated the fries, I immediately stuck my hand in the bag when we received our food (~20 ish minutes after ordering it) and grabbed one and it was hard and cold. They tasted like they had been sitting a bit, and the people behind us got their food first so they may have been. 4 stars because the burger almost completely made up for the lackluster fries; all in all I subtracted a star because for the price point everything should be on par; and the lack of substitution for the buns. It's a classic smash, food comes out fairly quickly. Take a minute, but you know that it's because it's just being done. Wish they had options for combos versus trying to buy everything a la carte. The last couple times I've gone it has been during the cold months, so sitting and eating there is it the best but I'm sure during late spring and summer. It'd be nice. read more

Fries: Goldilocks level because the seasoning and cook on them wasn't too much or too little but just right! Burger: OMG, I just have to confess my love for this smashburger!!! Very easy to spot on the street, there isn't much else around. I liked the vibe with the vibrant colors, and it was very clean. The burger was pretty good; the special sauce was a bit too peppery for my taste and the grilled onions were hard to chew (had to do that annoying thing where you have to literally grab the onion to rip it off your teeth haha). Otherwise, I think they got the more important components of the smash burger down. The fries looked great, I definitely want to come back to try those and the patty melt next time. read more

I found OG Smashburger by accident when I drove past their location recently. The bright yellow colors really captured my eye. I even circled the block so I could park and see it up close. What I found looked quite appealing so I decided to stop for lunch and give it a try. They are clearly inspired by Oklamhoma, both the decor and their smash burger. An Oklamahoma style smashburger is when the grilled onions are smashed into the beef patties instead of layered on top. It results in a tasty, crispy, beefy, oniony patty and OG Smash Burger really nailed their take on it. The burger was very enjoyable. The fries were crispy, salty, tasty and thin. I tried them with the dipping sauces and the flavors were a great combo to go with the burger. For a random discovery on the streets of the valley, OG Smash Burger really delivered some excellent food! Their shop is a window style counter with some outdoor patio seating. It is a small place with no parking but I had no trouble finding street parking directly in front of their shop. They must be fairly new because I drive by this area about once a month and hadn't noticed them before. The person taking orders was nice and friendly. The decor is bright and colorful with a lot of fun kitsch related to Oklahoma. I noticed they also serve a patty melt and I would love to come back and try one out. We ordered the single smash combo and the double smash combo. Upgraded one of the fries to chili cheese fries and can not get over how good the chili is! There are 4 tables outside with umbrellas that are adjustable for the sun and plenty of chairs. The cashier was beyond friendly and helpful! Service and food is top tier. The burgers at OG Smash Burger are perfectly competent smash burgers. The OG Sauce adds a creaminess to the burger that pairs well with the cheese. The onions, on mine at least, were burned. This brings me to the subject of brand confusion. This is not the place that originated the smash burger. So why use OG in the name? Smash Burger has existed well over a decade, and the idea of smashing a burger has been around longer. They have a bunch of Oklahoma references around the location. I asked, and they said it was a reference to the Oklahoma smash burger. Having grown up in Oklahoma and having eaten many burgers around the state, I think they mean to reference the Oklahoma Onion Burger. So...it's an attempt at an onion burger, and it's not the place of the burger's origination. And the onions are burned. There is al fresco dining or you can take your food to-go. Al fresco on a busy street is hard with small children. I would suggest taking it to go if you have small kids that have trouble staying in their seats. read more
