We discovered this place since my daughter had to do something in UCLA last Sunday, then she had this sushi craving when we were on our way to Glendale so we researched on yelp---- such a pleasant surprise! Food were tasty and fresh. We got sushi combo plates A and B. Plus customer service was great. Eventhough she was alone that afternoon, Julie was quick, attentive, and friendly. There are a number of choices on North Brand Avenue. Found Oishi Sushi by accident, and I have learned to pay attention when lightning does strike. Chris and I enjoyed the chilled Kikushi Sake. Not sweet, but smooth, slightly nutty. In a word: fantastic. The sea bream was oustanding. As were the salmon carpaccio, and the oasis roll, and the pink lady roll. In fact, everything we tried, we loved (and even tried again). The highlight was the tuna tataki, however; fresh, firm, and sliced the right thickness. Our waiter whose name I forget (thanks to Chris and Kikushi Sake), made great recommendations and was suitably attentive (but not obsequiously so). I ended up at Oishi Sushi because the original restaurant I wanted to eat at in Glendale had a super long line and I had a movie to catch at Americana so I couldn't wait. Oishi sushi is cute, with the Japanese wooden interior. They have booths and table. All of the booths and table were taken aside from 2 small tables in the front so I asked to sit at the bar instead. I love being able to watch the chefs anyways. I ordered the take combo which comes with either sushi or sashimi, a choice of teriyaki and tempura (along with soup and salad). I chose the sashimi (chef's choice) and salmon teriyaki. All of the food was good and I felt satiated afterwards. It was a nice combination or fresh sashimi, perfectly cooked salmon and crunchy tempura. I believe I got salmon, tuna and yellowtail for the sashimi slices (you get 6 so 2 of each). The salmon teriyaki was juicy and the salmon skin was nice and crunchy. The tempura was a nice variety of shrimp and vegetables. Overall I'm pleased with my meal although the prices here are a bit more compared to other sushi/Japanese restaurants in Glendale. read more

This is the best, freshest sushi I've ever had and I am so utterly confused as to why no one is ever in this restaurant. Everyone walking by Oishi to the other trendy spots is missing out. My boyfriend and I have been frequenting this spot for years and the service is always impeccable and the food never misses. Please if you are ever near Brand Blvd or looking for a good food spot for dinner after shopping at the Galleria/Americana, GO HERE! Let me so soup was a little watery 3/5 Service was great the waitress checked on us multiple times and was helpful with some recommendations. This is by far the best sushi place I've been to in Glendale! The service was amazing and the staff were kind. We went as a big group for a family's birthday lunch and they had large tables for all of us to it together. I liked that they added unique touches to each sushi! I have eaten here and have ordered food to-go a few times now over the years and the quality, taste of the food is so consistent. My favorites are the OMG roll and the Firecracker roll. My family loves the shishito peppers. Tofu may be a simple food and I don't know how they make their Agedashi tofu it's seriously cooked so perfect I could have a hundred of those. The service is also great. They check in with you and get the orders right, and do not bother you unnecessarily or any unnecessary chit chat. I asked their opinion in choosing from a couple of different food items and they helped me with that. I love this atmosphere because it's cozy and nice. I came here with my kids and we were able to enjoy the food without any distractions. I just love the set up. The quality is so fresh and presentation is very neat - what we ordered: - agedashi tofu - spicy tuna salad - hot night roll - rising hamachi roll - green tea ice cream tempura All of these items we ordered were soooo yummy good & highly recommend each! The flavors weren't too overpowering as some places like to drench their rolls in sauce. As for the service, our server was very attentive and kind. I went here a few times and each time the food was amazing and the quality was top notch and consistent. Before this, I didn't really appreciate good quality sushi but after eating this, I can't eat poor quality sushi anymore. I particularly recommend the rising hamachi and the seared spicy albacore. They also have a green tea beer which I think is so unique and definitely worth trying! The service was also great and everyone was so kind and respectful. It was not welcoming at all and I second guessed if I wanted to eat here as it was dark and cluttered with papers and plates all over. I didn't know if it was safe or clean for that matter. Have so much clutter displayed around good is never a good idea. But I was hungry and crunch time and the reviews seemed good to try so I gave it a try. I started with the miso soup and the cucumber salad, the miso was basic and the cucumber salad was not good! It had absolutely no flavor. Literally chopped cucumber that was over priced. So I asked for some ponzu sauce and sesame seeds to have flavor. The. Came the lunch plate and the rolls were not good the sushi and sashimi was cut too thick but seemed to be fresh. Lastly, the smelt egg came and I have to say this was the smallest smelt egg sushi I have ever had. So disappointed. I wouldn't recommend this place. It dark and depressing and food is not great. Blue fin tuna ooooh so buttery. I really appreciated their no rice rolls too, the pink lady roll had blue crab in it, rolled around salmon. Amazing roll. Service was quick, friendly, and efficient. I came here with a party of 7 with the intention of buying their sushi boats. Unfortunately, they said they didn't have enough time. I assume they just didn't want us to wait the 40 minutes in case we get hangry because we ended up ordering the same amount of food in individual orders anyway. Despite having a sushi boat advertised for 6-8 people, I only saw one table that could fit this many people. Our booth ended up having an extra table attached to accommodate us. Regardless, this is nice instead of waiting for that one large table to leave. The service was fine. We had two different servers attend to us. They seemed busy as they had to wait for the dishwasher to finish in order to give us plates for the appetizers. Their menu is pretty large. I've had better takoyaki elsewhere; there wasn't enough octopus inside. The calamari appetizer was small. The rest of the food we had was tasty. read more

We got the pink lady, super good and light. I decided it was missing cream cheese so we added some. Super good. Also ordered the Las Vegas roll, because like I said, we big on cream cheese. Located on Brand next to the intended target (Ji Cook) we discovered that the target closed for a midday break so sushi, being something of a no-brainer, wS a logical substitute. I love the dark intimate interior and it seemed right for a moderately warm day to dine-in. The illustrations in the menu are excellent and I appreciated the care and time it must have taken someone to compile because it's a huge product selection! Anyhow, eating with one's eyes will surely guide you in the decision making process, I know it helped us. Friendly service made us feel comfortable and the four rolls we selected came out in pairs, and the server also brought the requested side of ponzu sauce well in advance (might not seem like a big deal but most places lack that attention to detail). The rolls were all well constructed, beautifully presented, and one had a delightful house sauce unlike anywhere else I've been. I really liked the #5 and the house special Lemon Roll. In general I like spicy things and both had ingredients to appease those tastes. Maybe it was the coffee drinks we had prior in Pasadena, but we both felt full afterwards. Normally we'd order Nigiri sushi and some Carpaccio but I guess that'll have to wait until next time. Overall the quality, ambience, service, and food tried earns a solid 4.2/5 stars. My friends and I were craving sushi and remembered that this place was open until 11pm on Fridays and right down the street! It is easy to get to and find parking and away from the busy part of Brand which is nice. There are a couple of tables outside but there was a nice quiet table inside so we opted for that. It is nice and clean and would make a nice place for a date or for families. The restrooms were clean and you can see that they take care in the cleanliness of the restaurant. Service was off the charts and absolutely perfect! On to the food! Here's what we got: - Yellowtail collar - delicious, tender and light. Highly recommend. - Baked scallop roll - just a standard Ca roll but with baked scallop on top and drizzled with eel sauce. Always a favorite! - Popcorn lobster - what's there not too love about this! - Sashimi and tempura - sashimi was fresh and the tempura was crunchy! - Cucumber salad - this is another favorite. So crispy and refreshing in this heat! - Seared albacore with crispy onion - so yummy. The albacore had a tasty miso sauce and the crispy onions were so good and piled on! - Yellowtail Jalapeño - match made in heaven! The sake and wine were good too! We also ordered beef teriyaki but I wouldn't it again. Their specialty is definitely the Yellowtail dishes all day! I want to just say again that the service was fast and impeccable. This is my new favorite sushi spot. I will never go anywhere else! read more
