Okaeri Cafe is hands-down one of the cutest spots we've been to. From the moment you walk in, you're surrounded by the most adorable Shiba Inu merch, which instantly sets the tone. Cozy, charming, and full of personality. Since it's a small cafe, we honestly didn't expect it to be very kid-friendly, but we were pleasantly surprised to find high chairs available. As parents of 16-month-old twin boys, that alone made our experience so much easier and immediately won us over. Food-wise, everything was just as delightful as the atmosphere. We ordered the kids katsu nuggets, and the rice came shaped like a panda. A PANDA. It was almost too cute to eat (almost). Our boys absolutely loved it. We also had the omurice with a side of tonkatsu and the loaded fries, and every dish was delicious, comforting, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Okaeri Cafe manages to be charming, tasty, and surprisingly family-friendly all at once. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in town!
Such a cute cafe in Richardson! I wanted a place to sit and do work with both snack and drink options, and Okaeri Cafe delivered. I didn't want anything too filling so opted for the chicken karaage, which was overpriced for what it was ($9 for 5 pieces). The texture was also a little off, it looks like they used a wet batter as opposed to tossing it in dry starch as it is classically done. It was still relatively crispy and tasted fine with kewpie, lemon, and togarashi but lacking the signature texture of karaage. The hojicha strawberry latte was a great balance of umami and sweet. If you haven't tried hojicha but love matcha, definitely give it a go! It's like matcha's nuttier cousin. Definitely mix it well before drinking! All the tables were full on a Sunday afternoon, so I opted to sit in one of the wooden cubbies with floor cushions. I love sitting cross legged and taking my shoes off when I study lol so this was perfect for me! But something to keep in mind if you're trying to spend longer here.
The service at this Japanese Cafe was amazing and they were very sweet and catering. As someone who isn't the biggest fan of curry I thoroughly enjoyed the Curry here! The food is very delicious and tasteful. The loaded fries were amazing was well! I will be back. I love the setting in this place as well. It's very cute inside
First time trying Japanese curry here and it was definitely a fun experience. My brother, who has actually had curry in Japan, said it is really close to authentic. I can see how it is an acquired taste, but I enjoyed it. We ordered a good mix of things. The loaded fries were AMAZING. The portion was big and they were so good that we ate them so fast I forgot to take a picture. I had the tonkatsu curry, and the tonkatsu was perfectly crispy with great flavor. We also tried the omurice, which was flavorful, and the gyudon, which was tasty but very heavy on the onions. The only thing I did not love was that they ask questions like "Did you want the egg on it?" which makes it sound included, but it is actually an extra charge. Just something to watch out for. For drinks, I got the matcha frappe and it was solid. It was not too sweet, and their whipped cream is seriously next level. The cafe itself has a very quiet atmosphere and small tables, so it feels better suited for a study spot or a small group rather than a big gathering. They even have traditional Japanese seating on the ground, which adds to the vibe. Overall, I would say it is a spot worth checking out if you want to try Japanese comfort food in Richardson.
Having seen multiple stories and pictures of this place on social media, I had high hopes it would deliver. Unfortunately it was not the case, the service here is nothing to be proud of, the staff was unhelpful when we called ahead to see how busy they were. When we arrived the staff member at the register seemed bothered and unfriendly. Not many smiling faces or enthusiastic expressions to make you feel welcomed. Inside the decor was cute but nothing I haven't seen before, there were tatami style seating but it was limited. We sat at a table with our an order number for them to recognize us, it took quite a bit of time for the food to arrive to the table, and when it did, the staff just dropped it off and left. I'd expect a bit more service for a place that asks for a tip after paying for your meal. As for the food, though it looked appealing, it was just that. The pancake was nothing special, I've had better and this was only bearable to eat because of the mayo. However the cabbage on the inside was nice and the bonito flakes were fine (tasted like the store bought version in a can) As for the Omurice, let's start with the egg, it was done well and the texture was as I expected, soft and fluffy. The rice on the inside was ok but the sauce/gravy was so salty. We had to remove it to be able to taste the rest of the dish. The steaks that accompanied it tasted like sausage patties that you buy at a grocery store. I don't normally rate places lower than a three, but I was definitely displeased by the experience.
This place is so cute with all the Shiba Inu decorations. I got their loaded fries, pandan matcha, and an espresso with oat milk and cinnamon. The pandan matcha latte is good but I have had better matcha elsewhere. The coffee has a sour taste and they said it's from the espresso. The coffee doesn't taste that strong or bitter, but it was just bitter. It tastes really off and we tried adding sugar, but it just doesn't taste good. The workers were really nice and they offered to make us a different drink, but it's ok. We didn't really like the drinks but the food was good. I think they use takoyaki toppers for their loaded fries, and there are also a lot of different sauces they put on it. The prices for everything were pretty cheap and reasonable, I might come back to try other food items.
Okaeri Cafe has a lot to offer! My friend and I came to visit from the Bay Area, and we were so happy to get recommendations from our local friends to come here. Ambiance - It was such a cute area. Divided in half, one felt more like a seating area for a quaint cafe, while the dining area had a side with little tables and seats as well as three booths where you would remove your shoes to sit on a pillow in front of a low table. The aesthetic is really cute with lots of green plants to complement the wooden clean accents. Definitely a cute area to bring a few friends with or even by yourself! Parking - The parking lot is a bit small, but nothing bad at all! Service - We were attended to as soon as we walked in, and seating us, taking our orders, bringing the food out, as well as the bill was all swift and prompt. Food - The menu had so many good options, but knowing that the portions would be large made it difficult for us to choose just one! Half the menu is for drinks ranging from coffee, matcha, teas, snacks, even ice cream! The price is amazing for how much food you get - my friend and I couldn't finish more than half of our plates! - Omusoba: I got this dish, it was really good! They bring it out fresh, and and flavors are amazing but not overwhelming at the same time. The presentation was adorable. - Chicken Katsu Curry: My friend got this, and as someone who isn't a big fan of this usually, I actually really enjoyed it. The chicken was moist and soft while being perfectly crunchy on the outside. The curry was delicious as well. Overall, I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone who loves Japanese or overall Asian food! It was totally worth the price, and if I was local to this area, I would definitely be a regular here.
Drinks here from matcha to iced lemonades are so good. matcha latte is well balanced not overly sweet. the sandwiches are comforting and filling, katsu with a kick of spicy, tonkatsu for a sweeter alternative and spam if that's your preference. service is kind and courteous and prompt the ambiance is quiet and excellent place to relax with some background lofi cafe music highly recommend!
Really enjoyed the food and lovely service here. Everything was delicious and the service was excellent. This spot is quiet with several seating options (including traditional low tables and tatami mats). There were lots of food and drink options that would satisfy most diets and tastebuds. Parking is in the lot in front of the building and the entire establishment is sparkling clean. Will have to come back!!
delicious cafe! very cute seating that makes you feel like you're in japan. i got the pandan matcha and it was one of the best lattes i've had- it balanced so well and wasn't overly sweet by any means. there are also plenty of plantbased options. i enjoyed the vegetable dumplings in particular. overall a delicious and unique cafe. by the restroom, there are cute trinkets, the lucario shrine being my favorite.
Based off of Yelp's translation for the reviews, I felt my experience was "OK". Came here for a quick date about an hour from closing, so maybe that's why we weren't really wow-ed with most of the food we ordered. The interior is super cute. Service was lovely, but the food was OK, and it was also pretty warm inside. Ordered: + Omurice - would get this again, super delicious and was the main reason we came :) - Onigirazu - they had only the spam onigirazu left - was the last one, wrapped in plastic and in a plastic takeaway type container; this tasted like it'd been sitting all day; the rice was hard/stale and yeah. Definitely not worth its price tag for a stale onigirazu. :( - Katsu Bento - the katsu was good, well-fried, etc. It didn't super wow me for its price. Overall, my date and I agreed we probably wouldn't come back unless we were craving omurice. BUT, I'm glad we aren't the norm. :) read more

This place is a SOLID 4!!! Super cute little cafe!!! Came here on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't crowded at all. The overall decor is super Japanese cutesy and the little tatami seating is adorable! You order your food upon walking in, grab a seat and then relax and enjoy the ambiance while your food is prepared, then delivered to your table. What did we get... -Iced Matcha Green Tea Latte (8 of 10, not overly sweet and the almond milk was perfect with the smooth match and sugar) -Hibiscus Matcha Lemonade (7 of 10, tart and refreshing) -Omurice (8 of 10) -Yakisoba (9 of 10) -Hot Curry Katsu Rice (9 of 10, katsu was crispy and pork was tender, curry had food flavor) -Matcha Cheesecake (8 of 10) All in all, it was a tasty and fun experience and we will definitely be returning! We've been here on two occasions and food and drinks were spot on! First visit was on my birthday. We got the Betonamu Kohi, Omurice, Katsu Curry, Okonomiyaki, Oishii Fries and Matcha Cheesecake. The star of the show was definitely the Omurice as the presentation was 10/10 and texture of the rice with each bite of egg hit home. The sauce is definitely different as it's not something that was a familiar taste to us, but it did grow. We loved it so much we tried to copycat this technique and failed a million times. Save your time/money and don't waste 's like we did. In addition the Okonomiyaki was amazing. I don't know what or how this is made but man...it's Highly recommend the Betonamu Kohi (their take on Vietnamese coffee) for your pick me up beverage. It's velvety smooth yet it packs a strong punch that will put some hair on your chest! For food, we recently tried some of the newer items and loved it so much we catered it for our daughters 1st birthday. Spam Onigiri was the crowd favorite and held very well! We could not get enough and the guest kept asking for more. We also ordered Hotto Doggu (asian dressed hot dog) ,Panko Shrimp and Chicken (they stayed crispy and tender)! Ooh I can't forget the Gyoza! Now when you think of Gyoza you think oh it'll be average dumpling etc. But boy was I wrong, that little wrapped thing punches you in the mouth full of flavor. They have a pretty good sized menu and allowed us to customize some of the things we asked to cater. It seems they are constantly evolving and bringing new items in as well as working with other vendors to support small shops. I definitely will be using them again for future parties! read more
We gave this place five stars for the overall food experience and vibe. When we walked in, it was decently busy, but they were quick and attentive. When we were heading towards the floor booth, the staff quickly broomed and wiped the tables down for us! We took off our shoe because it was a traditional Japanese seating area (there was no sign to, but it said to be gentle with the wood). Everything was well seasoned, nothing too salty. From the curry, honestly, the sausages were the best. The curry itself just tasted like store bought curry. The omurice was definitely the go-to--if you can add sausages to that...that would be great. The yakisoba hotdog's bread was like the milk bread from a bakery, so it was sweet and savory. It was the interesting menu with interesting combinations. The cheesecake was like a marriage between castella bread and cheesecake. Light and fluffy, but note that there are raisins at the bottom xD. The matcha lemonade tasted a lot more refreshing when the ice melted and cooled it down. read more

During the pandemic our quarantine family ordered from Okaeri Cafe's popup out of the old Richardson Tasty Tails quite a few times, so we were so excited to hear plans about a permanent brick and mortar location and eagerly anticipated its opening! Finally got a chance to stop by last weekend after the initial opening rush; it's still pretty busy inside, but we were able to snag a table while waiting in line at the front to order around noon on a Saturday, so I highly recommend stopping by now to check it out. The interior is well lit and there's a lot of cute art on the walls; the decor really makes the place feel homey. You go up to the front and order, and the staff are extremely nice if you're getting hot food as well as an affogato -- they'll tell you to just come up and ask when you're ready for your dessert instead of just bringing it all at once, which I thought was a great touch. The best part about having a brick-and-mortar location now is that all the food is made to order, fresh and hot. I enjoyed the pop-up food well enough, but it was always pre-made and sitting for at least a few hours before we picked up, so it's an understatement to say that coming in and being able to sit down and eat entrees fresh is a vast improvement. The traditional omurice's egg is creamy and pairs well with the demiglace and fried rice - I'm definitely interested in trying the curry version the next time I come back. The ratio of the katsu curry is a bit off (too much rice/not enough curry) but the flavor was great, it had a tiny kick which I loved, and the katsu was very juicy and had well-seasoned batter. I love a good hot dog and the ones here did not disappoint - the BUN was so well-toasted, lightly crisp on the outside but still soft on the inside, and the hot dog itself was huge and flavorful. Maybe a tad too salty when paired with the yakisoba we got on top, but still a huge crowd pleaser. And we got the green tea/matcha affogato to top it off at the end, which was great - though I was a little confused when the matcha pour-over came out cold. Maybe hot matcha is something you have to ask for specifically? At least I'll try that next time. I am a little sad that some of the items that used to be available for preorder during their pop-up days are no longer available on the current menu (loved the dry curry spaghetti and the curry hot dog!) but I'm hoping there's a possibility those things might be added back in the future as they continue to grow and figure out what works best! Looking forward to coming back in the future to try other things (looking at you, corn flake shrimp bento) and just hang out in the space :) read more

Okaeri is a cute, inviting, and delicious cafe that will win your heart over with its scrumptious Japanese cuisine, pretty decor, and cozy seating. We tried their Classic Gyudon with raw egg yolk, Katsu HottuDoggu, Miso Soup, and a Kohai Desu! Coffee while sitting zashiki style in one of their 3 traditional Japanese booths with low tables and seat cushions. Their 2 giant framed chalk boards were adorned with lovely renditions of Princess Mononoke and other Japanese inspired arts. To top it off, the staff (possibly owners?) were so nice and welcoming! Service- Everyone was very nice and had good service, no complaints. Seating- We called ahead of time, but you need to be in house to be on the table waitlist. It took 20min to be seated, not too bad for 1pm on a Sunday. Ordered: -Iced Hazelnut Coffee -Iced Toffee Nut Coffee -Curry Omurice -Omurice -Takoyaki La Maison Bleue Pop-Up: -Dusk Ade -Rose Cream Soda Food- It was alright, nothing impressive. Coffees are also not bad. Egg dishes have price increase. Chicken katsu was nicely crispy and very juicy! Pop up drinks were very pretty, tastes good. Everything was about $74. Vibes: Overall everything was good, because I came to take pictures. A very aesthetic place. It would've been better if we could get seated at the Japanese seating area, but I guess we weren't clear about what we wanted. I would come again with girl friends to study and take pictures. Glad I finally had a chance to visit the cute Japanese-themed Okaeri Cafe in Richardson! We walked in around 12 noon on a Saturday, and we were able to get one of the floor seating areas! Since there were 3 of us, we each ordered a different entree item and shared so that we could try a variety of menu items! What we got: - sencha iced tea: I asked for unsweet, but this one was still a little too sweet for my taste. - omurice (A traditional Japanese fried rice dish topped with a runny tornado swirled omelet and served with special house made demi-glace): This is the dish I see on instagram a lot, but to me, this one didn't stand out so much. - katsu curry (Breaded Pork Katsu served with Japanese short grain rice and in-house curry with carrots and yellow potatoes. + Soft-boiled egg): This was my favorite dish. I liked the katsu pork with crispy exterior and juicy pork! The curry sauce was that spicy-sweet that I like! Would get again! - omusoba (A fluffy omelete packed with stir fried yakisoba noodles, carrots, onions, cabbages and shiitake mushrooms. Topped off with Japanese mayo, ketchup, furikake and bonito flakes): Fun to cut into the layer of egg to reveal the yakisoba! Has great taste, but similar profile to the omurice. - mochi trio (3 daifuku mochi - strawberry, green tea, mango): filled with red bean and dusted with flour, it's a wonderful dessert to finish our your meal! Their menu is pretty limited - 4 entrees to choose from, along with some appetizers. One major criticism of the menu here is that the entrees have a similar flavor profile. The curry was a little distinct just because of the spicy notes, but egg is a common theme throughout the menu, and the main difference is in the rice vs. noodles. Not necessarily a bad thing if that's what you're looking for, but I wish there was a little more variety in the dishes offered here. However, the ambiance here is ON POINT! So cute, everywhere you look. It started to get a little busy toward 1pm, but I can see how this would be a great place to relax and get some work done with some refreshing drinks and bites. Service is friendly and fast - you order at the counter, grab your seats, and they bring it all out to you! Our food came out within 10 minutes of ordering! There is a parking lot outside the cafe, shared with a massage place. I had no trouble finding a parking spot on my visit. read more

A strange cafe. From the outside, it doesn't look like much but they have transformed the inside into a cute, Tokyo style cafe. I have to say the tatami style space is tiny and table even small for me. It's cute though, so discomfort may not be a turn off for some?!? The food was below average but I guess you go for the unique ambiance over everything else. read more

What a great place the food I had was delicious and I can't wait to go back . I have the best potato salad I've ever had in my life as a side dish, and I ordered omerice as my main dish. I will definitely be back to try more things like their hot dogs which come with special things on top like Ramen noodles and shaved beef. Another thing I want to try is the chicken pork and the tofu katsu with a side of Yakitori this will take a while for me but I look forward to going back as much as possible. read more

Super cute Japanese cafe! I took my two year old toddler here and he loved it chicken nugget kids meal. I ordered an omelette, all of their onigiri offerings and a matcha latte with coconut milk. Everything was delicious! The onigiri rice was soft, moist and chewy- exactly how I like my rice! If I have to rate favorites, spam would be 1st and teriyaki chicken is a close second. The wait staff are all very nice and polite. I would definitely be back and highly recommend this Okaeri Cafe. read more

Delicious spot! The food was amazing, and the customer service is even better. This is such a nice spot to stop in and have a bite. There is free wifi, not too much space to sit inside though. They also have a little shopping area in the restaurant with neat little things and branded items. Will definitely be visiting again! read more

My only regret is not ordering any drinks from the cafe, so I will be back!!!! Stopped by after a foot massage at happy feet down the street. Relaxing is tiring Okaeri was exactly what we needed afterwards! The space is small so I don't recommend coming in groups bigger than 4 but the food is amazing! I ordered the chicken Katsu bento box and it was the perfect serving size. The Katsu was crispy. The pasta was sweet, just right and a great pair with the Seaweed salad which was fresh and tangy. The loaded fries were a nice shareable size. The service is quick, friendly and patient. They have cute traditional Japanese seating where you take off your shoes and sit on a floor pillow. read more

first of all, wow! the first steps into this cafe are breathtaking. it has a very modern, clean, cute aesthetic with a lot of touches of green. The service was amazing, the food and drinks were brought out within 10 minutes of ordering. My boyfriend and I ordered the classic Omurice, Misa's Matcha, the green tea lemonade and the takoyaki. I definitely recommend all of them! The drinks were not super sweet but sweet enough to where the flavors really shine through. The omurice had a beautiful umami flavor; the rice and eggs had an amazing melt-in-your-mouth feel. it was DIVINE. i highly recommend you check this place out!! it's a very cute spot to study or just hang out read more

This has the cutest little aesthetic ever. Theres so many oriental sweet treats sold at the front. And when we went there was an additional colorful drink stand which seemed intriguing. There's three tables with traditional seating - but they only seat two. Then there's regular seating and some bar seating with outlets for coffee shop work. There's limited seating so try to come when it is not rush hour. For the price, i think that the food and service of this place is too expensive. Its good, but an ok meal for 2 people should not be 56 dollars. There are much better places in dallas for this type of food - but it will be tough to beat the cuteness of this place. read more

The drink menu is pretty extensive while the food menu was more limited. We came for dinner on a Friday, and only two tables were taken, so we had no problem with seating. Even though there aren't many food menu items, each dish was extremely tasty and well seasoned. The curry was the best I've ever had. The tofu in the yakisoba was also very tasty, and I preferred it over the pork. The black sesame latte seemed like it was just milk, black sesame, and syrup which was a little disappointing though for the price. read more

First of all the aesthetics in this small cafe are amazing and it's a perfect spot for a date. The food presentation and the decorations are really nice with a few chabudais for floor seating. The Bento Box has the option of one protein and two sides. I chose tonkatsu for the protein then mac salad and potato salad for the sides. The tonkatsu wasn't dry and had a nice crisp on the outside with a slightly sweet sauce on top. I really enjoyed squeezing the lemon on top of the tonkatsu. Both the mac salad and potato salad were a bit bland and I wish they were creamier. The omurice was fried rice topped with a tornado omelette and sauce surrounding the dish. The omelette had a really nice texture and wasn't overcooked. I do feel like the omurice was a little salty sometimes though because of the sauce. Some scoops had more sauce than other bites which caused it to become a little overwhelming. Overall the omurice was still enjoyable though. I would definitely come back here again. The aesthetic of the cafe is super nice and I wanna try some of the other items they offer. read more

Very small cafe known for their matcha drinks. We made the drive over from Fort Worth and so happy we did. The kids food presentation is adorable and the traditional seating is a fun touch. The chicken katsu curry had a very faint spice that many other places either don't have enough of or too much of, but it was perfect here. Service was quick and friendly. Would definitely make the drive again. read more
