While OKI isn't my go to place for sushi, they're definitely a solid option in the area. Their menu is extensive so there's sure to be something to please everyone. I have yet to try their hibachi but the sushi has always tasted fresh and they have a nice selection of specialty rolls. The angel roll so far has been my favorite out of the list. On my last visit I tried their pork dumpling soup which was just alright as the broth lacked flavor. So I would probably skip that the next time. But everything else has been consistently good. Service has always been a little awkward. It's been friendly enough but our waitress always seems either confused or like she is trying to get us to order more or multiples of items which is a bit annoying. At lunch, they have special rolls for $4.95, and they are quality, delicious and amazing. We tried the spicy shrimp, shrimp tempura, crunchy scallop and Philadelphia rolls...absolutely the best I've had. Absolutely worth a stop. Oh! And delicious Sake, at reasonable prices as well! This was probably the best overall experience I have ever had at a restaurant, hands down. Right when we walked in the door, our server, Justin, took excellent care of us. He was extremely prompt, friendly and charismatic, and offered us the perfect frequency and pace of service. My boyfriend and I both ordered the miso soup (huge portion for only $2.50!) and we each ordered two sushi rolls (spicy tuna, spicy shrimp, eel, and Godzilla). Each roll was beautifully made and tasted absolutely delicious! To top it all off, the owner of the place (I believe), took time to come over and make conversation with us, ask us if it was our first time here, and found out my boyfriend had just moved to town and welcomed him! She also brought over some free plum wine for us to drink, which was fantastic. Overall I have never been more impressed by a restaurant after only going there one time - the service, food and value were all amazing. You bet we will be back! read more

We love Oki! We come here often and get the lunch specials from 11am - 3pm. Oki never disappoints. The food is always delicious, hot and consistent. Tried OKI for the first time on Thursday night. We wanted to go for hibachi. We waited a bit to be seated and then asked about being seated in the hibachi area and were told we couldn't do traditional hibachi because there was a party going on. So we sat on the other side and ordered hibachi meals. That seemed strange cuz usually they sit you at another hibachi grill if one is a party. The food was delicious, and the portions were perfect! I had the steak hibachi and my date had the chicken hibachi and both were tasty. Parking is ample. The party in the hibachi area seemed to have a good time so it appears they put on a good show! Got more complex sushi rolls this time around - Sex on beach is delicious and fresh. I upgrade my opinion of their sushi based on this. Also turns out they have the best general tsaos chicken around! Really tender white chicken meat (you have to request white meat, for $1 extra) with a lightly crispy outside and perfect sauce. Also comes with a generous amount of fresh al dente broccoli. As with all of their dinner entrees, it comes with soup (I always ask for the hibachi/onion/mushroom soup instead of miso which is no extra charge), salad, AND white rice (brown instead for $1 extra). $10.95 without the extras. They also make a heavy handed mixed adult beverage! Only thing I didn't care for was in their "beef with julienne ginger" dinner entree, the ginger was definitely not julienned, but was in fact pickled sushi ginger. Really lame. It didn't ruin the dish but whenever I ate a piece of ginger, it was pretty unpleasant. We had good service this time around but didn't look like some of the other patrons sitting has as good luck. If you go during the week day or when it is less busy, it seems like you get a free appetizer of chicken skewers. Recently, my husband and I (on a slow Thursday night) also got free sake shots! Modern, authentic Oriental feel right as you walk in. Hibachi grills off to the right and casual dining off to the left where we sat. I started off with an Okitini, which is basically sake and vodka mixed together. MAN. It was strong, but I'm okay with that! If something isn't going to be tasty and it's alcohol related, it better be STRONG. Lol. With each entree you receive complimentary salad with ginger dressing and miso soup. Both solid and good starters to prepare you for your entree. I went with the Chicken with Thai Peanut Sauce. It comes jumbled together with asparagus, jicama, broccoli and okra with white rice on the side. So good. Nothing too crazy or complicated about the dish, it was just good food. Simple. This place took dinner and a show to a whole new level! Last Friday night, our friends made reservations for 24 of us to celebrate 3 birthdays over a hibachi dinner. It was a tight fit, but we did manage to fit all of us at one table. Perhaps this was what started the whole confrontation? Who really knows, but two of the Asian waitresses kept looking/pointing at our party, then screaming at each other in their native tongue. They weren't even trying to be discrete about it. They started right in the middle of the room where we could all see and hear them cursing at each other, then when they took it to the back, we could hear plates being slammed or smashed/broken.. it was a total shit show. Guests at other tables started getting up to leave the restaurant. I felt bad when a family w/ young children took their kids and left before they could even eat. It got so bad, the cops even showed up over these two crazy Asians going at it with each other (I'm not trying to be a racist, I'm Asian too). After waiting for what seemed like an hour, one of the server guys finally got things started for us. We all decided to do the Geisha Package which was $30.95 per person and actually an amazing deal. I just wish everything had come out amazing. With the package, it comes with your choice of meat or sushi combo, soup and salad (which they forgot to bring out), 4 apps and 4 sushi rolls portioned for our group to share, unlimited wine/beer/sake/soda for 2 hours and ice cream. The apps and sushi rolls were delicious. Our groups shared edamame, fried cheese wontons, coconut shrimp, double order of california rolls, spicy tuna rolls, and dynamite rolls. I ordered the Oki Special, which comes with your choice of two proteins, I chose to do the filet mignon (cooked medium) and a salmon. My filet came out well done (yuck) and when our cook was dishing out the veggies, I got a whole lot of onions and mushrooms with one piece of broccoli, while everyone else had a lot more broccoli and zucchini. My hubby ordered the sushi-sashimi combo instead of a hibachi. I wish I had taken a picture of his meal because the slices of sashimi they gave him were not in the least bit fresh. Tuna, which should have a vibrant red color was grey. He didn't even touch it for fear he might get worms or become seriously ill. Meanwhile one of the waitresses that was in a bitch fight w/ the other, had RBF the entire time she was required to come to our table. Really makes for an interesting (and by interesting, I mean bad) experience when you know this lady didn't want to be there serving us. Really though, what did we do wrong? At the end, our meals came out to $41 and change per person when they added gratuity and tax. Honestly, IMO they shouldn't have even added gratuity for the kind of show and service we received. We did pay it and leave without saying anything, but if it had just been me and hubby, I would've fought that gratuity bull crap. Outrageous that they would tack on 18%, their service was not even deserving of 10%. Idk, maybe this was just a really really bad day for them, and maybe the number of guests in our party was just too much for them to handle, but whatever the reason.. I'm not keen on coming back to give them a second shot anytime soon. But who knows, maybe I wouldn't even get the chance to give them a second shot because I can't imagine them staying opened much longer if they continue on like this. read more

We came here on a Sat night with a group of 10 people for our friends birthday party. They had a special going on, Sumurai Package, 10 people, $28 per person with 2 hrs unlimited drinks (limited), hibachi, 3 appetizers, 2 sushi rolls, and dessert. We had a reservation to begin but still ended up waiting another 15 minutes before we got seated (they were still cleaning the tables from the previous party). The hibachi area was PACKED but everyone seemed to be having a good time. I wish our waitress was a little bit more knowledgable. She seems like she didn't understand what we were saying when we were giving her our beer order. They ran out of blue moon and came back 15 minutes later to then ask us what we wanted to drink. The whole party had Coors Light and sake for the dinner. We order our appetizers and rolls and they come out one at a time, at a good rate for sharing. The hibachi chef seriously made the night. If it wasn't for him I don't think we would've had that much fun. The dessert was a huge plate of fried ice-cream with banana for the birthday boy. We didn't get individual desserts and they never asked us. They just came out with the huge plate with a candle ontop. The best sushi and authentic Japanese cuisine I have had in CT. We have been going to OKI for years, we have always loved the fresh and flavorful sushi, and the great food. We are always trying their new specials of their sushi, drinks and plates. Tonight we were served by one of the owners who thanked us for coming in, and talked to us about the special sushi dish they were offering tonight (sea bass and cucumber) and we got the Sakatini which my wife loved. We had the spicy girl and California roll, Pad Kaprow and coconut shrimp. I washed it all down with a Sapporo. And although this is a Japanese restaurant, their red curry (Thai) is also very veryyy good! Truly a struggle having to decide between sushi and the curry each time! Echoing other reviews here, I'll add our server was incredibly rude and seemed disinterested in serving our table. Soon after we sat down, we were greeted with plates slammed on our table and without a single word she walked away. I had questions regarding the menu that I could not ask because she never came and talked to us. Throughout our visit, the server never made eye contact or addressed us directly. We tried our best to be nice to no avail. The food was nothing exciting. Sushi wasn't fresh but the Spicy Girl roll was pretty good. For anyone with a well developed sushi palate, food here is marginal. Dealing with lack of quality food might have been easier had our server not spoiled the experience for us. Wow, where do I even begin? My relationship with this restaurant goes as far back as my graduation from high school (FAR BACK). I grew up at this hibachi restaurant. I could use the noodles as a pillow, that's how soft and delicious they are. Sometimes I lie awake at night and dream about the dragon roll and the friend cheese dumplings. Not only is the food AMAZING, but ever entered a place and feel like you belong there? That's how I feel every time I step through Oki's double doors. My wife and I have been coming here since their Grand Opening. It's one of three Sushi restaurants we frequent, but lately Oki has been getting most of our sushi business being close and convenient. They have seated and served us after a late night at work near closing time, even after finishing the evening clean up. They are always very welcoming. Winnie remembers us every time we dine here even when we haven't seen her in months. All our dining has always been for sushi, so we can't speak to the hibachi experience. The sushi is always fresh and consistent. The complimentary samples are a nice touch and keep things interesting. You never know what they will bring you, but chances are it will not be ordinary. Prices are fair and competitive. The restaurant and restrooms are very clean. The atmosphere is fitting and the staff has always been attentive. My only grip -Bring your eye glasses as the lighting is less than desirable. On our last visit we shared a sushi dinner deluxe for two where we choose from a selection of choices to complete the package. It's very frustrating when placing an order where you choose your options, only to struggle to read the choices because you forgot your reading glasses. All in all this is one of our local favorites. My only suggestion would be to add better lighting or table lighting that could be adjusted by patrons to their comfort level. This sushi talk is creating a craving and its getting late.
