I had their Cuban sandwich today and didn't find it to be very authentic. The bread is definitely not Cuban bread and it wasn't pressed until crispy, either. It seems like it was just toasted in an oven leaving the bread fluffy which is definitely not how a Cuban sandwich is supposed to be served. Also, there was barely any mustard and the pickle slices were sparse, I found only two little round slices on my entire sandwich. This is one of the most delicious places in town to eat authentic Cuban cuisine that i have ever had however the service is lacking, you can sit yourself at an outside table and apparently get ignored by the wait staff. Went to have dinner on Sunday evening. The place is great looking. However my experience was horrible. It took ten minutes for a waitress to acknowledge us and take our order. Then once we received our food it was horrible. The rice you can tell had been out all day. It was completely dry. And some of it was burnt. I would have complained but our waitress never returned. But you could see her on the other side of the restaurant flirting with some guy. Then when I got a different waitress to bring me my bill and they charged me for a drink that we had ordered. However they never brought it to us. So I had to explain it multiple times that we never got our drinks. The service was horrible. And so was the food. read more

The Cuban sandwich was pretty good. The bread was flakey and fresh, the classic flavor combination of the Cuban sandwich with fresh ingredients can not be beat. The kids burger was big, my son always asks for seconds or helps finish his younger brothers meal but not after this burger. Cuban style bun gave it a Cuban flair. The fries were fried to perfection. The perfect ending was the traditional Cuban coffee. Amazing is all I can say. The only better Cuban place I have visited is in Miami. It was also a great value and the service was amazing. Ok.... coming from South Florida where you can get so many delicious Cuban dishes.... this is not like that. Mariquitas were very thick and not that good, a chicken was very oily, 4 leche is actually a 3 leche with a dot of dulce de leche. However... ambience is really good and fun!! My family kind of like their meals, but sorry... haven't find a really good place in Orlando to have delicious Cuban food. If I could give it a 0 I would. I've come here many times, and before it's been great. This time was AWFUL. I understand that it's a Saturday night so the food won't be as good as always but the service was terrible. We ordered four entrées, two of which were terrible, cold, and super dry. We let them know (very nicely and super embarrassed about it) and we didn't even touch the food besides the one piece of meat we tried that was rock hard. So the plates were complete. They brought the manager out who REFUSED to take it off the bill even though she took back the plates which were again, complete. Telling us it was our fault for not eating it as soon as it touched the table, and that she isn't going to take it off the bill or replace it so it's not worth discussing. Then the waitress jumped in loudly and with extreme attitude about how she's worked here for 2 months and the food is always good so it's on us. We were very nice with her the whole time even when others weren't because it quite literally took 45 minutes to even get the drinks-which is understandable since it is a busy Saturday. So, they charged us for everything even when they took back the food, and were incredibly rude about it. Had to pay for food we didn't even eat or get to take. I'm Cuban and from Miami- this is one of the only places I used to enjoy up here but I will absolutely not be returning and I will definitely not be recommending this place to anyone. read more

Absolutely disgusting serving your patrons items that have been left out on a buffet. I totally get if you order a buffet that's what you get. I ordered from the menu expecting "fresh food" not stuff I have no idea how long has been sitting out. They offer their customers a buffet special and when I turned it down, I don't expect my meal to come from that buffet. Really poor food this place use to rock, the health department needs to inspect that buffet for proper temperature and bacteria. There are no heat lamps or steam coming from the water that is to suppose to be underneath the steel pans. I once gave this place 5 stars not anymore. If you are going to serve a buffet that's great, but don't pull your "non-buffet" patrons food off of it. There is a reason why I didn't want the buffet. I am Cuban. My whole family is Cuban. I've been to Cuba.. and Miami, just to chime in with the chorus of people using that as part of their reviews. I wouldn't expect the food to be as good as my Abuela's cooking (of course, in my opinion, she's the best.. but I'm sure every Cuban says that about their Abuela), but this is delicious, authentic Cuban food. The meats are very flavorful (get anything with pork... so juicy). The portions are generous. I got a pan con bistec and had to take half home because it was huge! The prices are great, too. The service was wonderful! The first time we went our server was very friendly. She spoke to me in Spanish at first, but then saw that my husband doesn't speak a word of Spanish and continued in English. I also came in one day looking for some trays of food to take to a party. While it wasn't on their menu, I took a chance and asked if they could make trays with a bunch of little croqueticas and papitas rellenas. The cashier worked with me and the cook to figure out some pricing and I was able to come in the day of the party to pick up the trays. So take note that while catering/party carryout isn't advertised as something they do, they are willing to make it work! I've searched high and low for really good Cuban food in Orlando, and this is the best I've found. There are other "Cuban" places in the area, but they offer more of a fusion of Cuban and other Spanish speaking countries and the flavors aren't great. I don't think simply being from Miami automatically qualifies anybody to judge authentic Cuban food (maybe if this place was claiming to be "authentic Miami Cuban food", then there would be some justification for using that as a qualifier), so I'd be skeptical to accept someone's judgment purely on that factor. I guess it's the same as people from New York saying they "know" authentic Chinese food. Are there some better places for Cuban food in Miami? Definitely. Does that necessarily make Old Cuban Cafe "not Cuban"? No. If you want the best Cuban food ever, get my Abuela to make it for you. If you want food that is still delicious and well priced, has generous portions, and excellent service.. then you'll find that at Old Cuban Cafe and save yourself a trip to Miami. read more

It's a shame that this a 2 star review , could have easily been a 5 star with the proper customer service to resolve an issue with them overcharging on my Bill. Menu said $1.75 for empanadilla , ordered 2 as per the server recommendation. Carne con queso. when they arrived they were only carne. ( that fine, mistakes happen, ate one and the server swapped the other to the correct one.) , when my bill came i was charge $5.00 for 2. I pointed this out after i paid because i had not noticed- anyhow, we checked the menu price and i was correct. at that point the server explained that their POS system has them set up at the $2.50 price because they had cheese. Again we checked the menu and price was $1.75. no mention of an up-charge. NO PROBLEM RIGHT- JUST REFUND THE $1.50 AND BE DONE. SIMPLE SOLUTION RIGHT!, well not here, the server tells me that the menu is wrong and that the correct price is $2.50, shes goes to the owner and apparently they don't know how to do a refund on their POS system because the server comes over to the table and tells me that the manager/owner cant refund because the system doesn't allow for it. Now isn't that convenient? At that point the server takes out .75 cents and puts it on the table. and says sorry. First of all only one of the empanadillas was with cheese because you ordered them wrong and you still over charge and then argue with a client when its your mistake on the menu. What type of management losses a customer over $1.50. This is not about the stupid $1.50 because if i just spent $43 on breakfast for 4 people , i don't think $1.50 will make me richer or poorer. IT'S ABOUT THE PRINCIPAL - YOUR MISTAKE FIX , I WONDER IF I GO IN THERE AND ORDER FOOD , EAT IT AND THEN PAY THEM WHATEVER I WANT, IF THEY WOULD BE OK WITH IT. I stopped in here while in town on business because it was close to my hotel. I love sandwiches so I figured why not grab a Cuban. When I walked in and looked around they were not very busy. I figured it was probably because it was about 430pm not quite dinner time. I sat my self and was quickly greeted by my waitress with a menu and glass of water. She took my drink order and left me to the menu. A few minutes later she returned and I ordered. I ordered a traditional Cuban sandwich with french fries for $7.99 and a pork tamale for $2.00. When my food arrived it was all steaming hot. The fries were cooked very well being crispy on the outside and fluffy in the center. They were not salted, but that's ok. I can add salt. The tamale looked great! The masa was very moist and the pork inside was very tender. I added a medium hot red chili sauce to it and it was very good. The sandwiches was served on a what seemed to be fresher baked crisp hoggie style roll. It was warm and had a soft center the sliced pork loin and ham inside were a delicious combination. I added mayo and a light layer of a sonic mustard they offered. It was all very good. By the time I was ready to leave the seating area had started to fill up and you could tell it was gonna be a busy night for them. Good value in my opinion. And what I ate was very pleasing. The yuca was amazing. I ordered an omelet and it was alright (and HUGE) but I ordered a side of yuca and I was in Heaven. The café con leche was the BEST cup of coffee I've in the States. Our waitress was very pleasant, too. I went back about a week after my first visit and ordered a side of white rice and black beans; they were both delicious! I've been meaning to drop a review for this little Cuban gem for a couple of weeks now and am glad I finally have the time. Granted, this has been open at this location for quite some time and I've only been able to go a handful of times, but each time, I'm never disappointed. I used to tell people I was not a fan of Cuban food but now I realize I must have just been eating at the wrong Cuban restaurants all along. There's something to be said for a perfectly seasoned rice and bean combo - and being Spanish, this is super important to me as they are so easy to mess up. Each time I've gone, Old Cuban Cafe nails it perfectly and I'm always left wanting more of their pinto beans. My favorite thing on the menu is the the Pargo Frito. It takes me back to Costa Rica, eating at a small shop right on the coast and licking my fingers while picking through the fish bones. In my opinion, all food tastes better right off the bone, and this is no exception. Their yuca frita and maduros are always cooked to perfection which compliments every flavor on the plate. Another notable for me is the Palomilla Encebollada which is finger-licking good. Depending on the day, can get a little salty but nothing a little lime can't fix right up. Naturally, their natural juices (including the freshly squeezed lemonade) complete this perfect Spanish meal and leave you feeling more than satisfied. Yum! read more

After reading the reviews about this place I was really excited to try it. But I was really disappointed my food portion was so small it wasn't really cheap though. (I went for breakfast) our server was really slow and basically ignored us the whole time. Hubby and I love this place for breakfast. You'll see us every other Sunday morning drinking our cafe con leche. It's nice to go somewhere where they recognize you.
