Food was bland as the tex mex menu looked so promising yet there was no spice. I had the Breakfast quesadilla allowing me to select 4 fixins in addition to the provided scrambled eggs in a tortilla. Also provided were potatoes that were cut and fried. I chose smoky sausage, cheddar, avocado, and jalapeño. Too many choices. Don't they know that most women shouldn't be given that many options because we keep changing our minds, especially when it comes to food. I kept trying to order more than 4, but not intentionally. Hubby had the Expressman but he was not quite satisfied by the level of spice so the server brought us Cholula and offered Tabasco. He commiserated with us as he enjoys spice as well so we showed him my 7 key fobs of dried hot chili peppers that I carry. His eyes bugged out and he realized we really love our spice. Come hungry! They serve large portions of everything! The staff is always friendly, and the food delicious. They have healthier options (oatmeal, yogurt parfait, egg whites & turkey sausage) but I've never had any of those options. Went with a friend for brunch on the weekend. New location is nice, server was a bit rude but the business is packed wall to wall with people so I understand. Food was pretty good but the wait was definitely too long if you just want to grab a quick breakfast. A little bit over priced in my opinion as well but the portions are relatively generous. Every time I come to this restaurant they always seem to notify my party before our table is ready. It's a bit uncomfortable to watch the bussers clean while we stand waiting to be seated. I'm sure other people have this issue as well, as it seems there's congestion at the entrance of the building. This makes it difficult for those with disabilities to get anywhere. My grandmother uses a walker and struggled to get around the chairs near the exit?? Why are they even there ... The food is not worth the wait :( read more

You can expect to wait a cool minute for a table on the weekends, but it's always worth the wait, and they text you when your table is ready so you don't have to do all that waiting in a constrained waiting area in the restaurant. 10/10 would recommend. read more

This is a true blue breakfast/lunch restaurant. The menu has something for everyone. The four of us had a great breakfast. My wife had the lemon/blueberry pancake with eggs and bacon. She was very happy. I had a skillet that had biscuits and gravy on the bottom, hash browns, three eggs and all the meats ham, sausage and bacon mixed in. We loved every bit. Two coworkers joined me for lunch today. One of the nice things about going to the Old West Cafe is that they have a very large menu that offers a lot of choice when you have multiple people who may feel like eating different things. They have now moved to a new location located on I 35 and loop 288. The new location offers a lot more parking and a bigger dining room. They also now have a separate coffee bar inside. You know a place is good when they have crowds of people coming. If your coming for lunch, I would recommend coming early. We came at 11:30 and we still had to wait 10 minutes. The decor is western with lots of chicken figurines and horse pictures. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The staff is very efficient. They have up to 3 registers to pay at during rush periods, yet they don't make you feel rushed to leave. I ordered the chopped steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. Everything was tasty and well prepared. The green beans were cooked with pieces of onion and bacon. The mashed potatos had good texture and flavor. The chopped steak was tender, good sized, well seasoned and cooked with a touch of char. The gravy was delicious and about the right amount. One of my coworkers had the grilled chicken breast with green beans and mashed potatoes. The chicken was moist, tender and was seasoned well and flavorful. My other coworker had the chicken tacos with green beans and refried beans. The tacos were big, not the little street tacos you often see. Soft flower tortillas were filled with slices of what appeared to be a whole grilled chicken breast and lettice and cheese. He said they were almost too much to eat. Old West Cafe is an excellent choice for breakfast or lunch, but remember to come early. read more

I have been a faithful Old west customer for the past 5 years and I can not believe that I have not written a review yet. Today was my second time at the new location. I am glad that they moved to a bigger location because the wait at the old location was ridiculous. There is still a wait at the new location (I waited 30 mins for just myself), but there is much more room so I guess it somehow balances out. In all of the years of me dining here, I always get the same 2 dishes. Either the cowgirl (eggs, sausage, cinnamon sugar toast and potatoes) or the battered French toast breakfast (I forgot the actual menu name). I always tell myself that I will get something different, but never do. Today I tried the warrior French toast breakfast and added strawberries and whipped cream. I also ordered the Creme Brulee latte. The latte was heavenly. I almost wished it was cold outside so I could truly enjoy it's warm, creamy goodness a little more. Despite the heat outside, I still loved every drop. The food was great as usual. However, I would have preferred it to be a little warmer. I felt like the eggs, sausage and potatoes may have been sitting while the French toast was being prepared. It wasn't enough to ruin my overall experience. My server was very attentive and ensured that I had everything I needed- except more water. I never got a refill of water. She did however give me a water to go. This is my third visit to the new location, nothing has changed in the service or food department, still impressed as always! The atmosphere is still the same: cozy warm, and inviting. Cant forget the lovely southern decor all over the place. It's more roomy and business is booming like I remember, and maybe even more than before. They made a good choice moving to this location. One of my favorite items on the lunch menu is The Alamo and on the breakfast I choose anything French toast, it never disappoints my tummy. Wait staff is always helpful and very friendly. At their old location, I found their food, service and value to be out of this world, but their parking and crowds made it difficult to visit as often as I would like. Now that they have moved, their much larger parking lot is always full and their much larger restaurant is always crowded. It's probably because people like me are stupid enough to share how awesome they are with the world, sigh, no good deed goes unpunished, I suppose. Saturday, before 8am, we were sat quickly and there were some seats still available (at least twice the seating offered at the old location) but by the time we left, there was a long line of people waiting. They have a fabulous breakfast menu, but I really crave their down home style lunch menu which is only served around 11am until 2pm, when they close. So, we came back Sunday at 10:40am and were told it was a 40 min wait for 2 people. Now I don't wait for food, I just don't, I need instant gratification for my cravings, but since we had previously discussed this, we decided to make an exception. I got put on the waitlist and promptly received a text with a link to NextME so I could see I was 16 in line, and know when to return. Things have changed since moving, and I imagine some of these are things they have been wanting to do, but waiting on the new location to execute. They put money into the signage and décor. They are adapting new technology that is mostly working out really well. They are experimenting with their menu, and if you see their website, they list the old menu with the caveat that they are updating. The current menus are in black binders and some of the changes are small, like renaming the Big Hoss the less fun, more clear, Peanut Butter Chocolate French Toast (which is the most amazing stuffed French Toast you will ever be in the presence of). Some are more significant: they no longer offer bagels, they are stricter about no substitutions, they no longer offer half and full portions for lunch, they have added a few new items and they have raised the prices. Most prices were raised $1-2 but they have kept their gigantic portion sizes so the food is still a great value and it's still fantastic, which is why the line stays so long. One of the items we got this weekend was the Train Robber (flour tortilla stuffed with scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon, sausage, ham and topped with queso, jalapenos, sour cream and salsa on the side) which is now $10.99. This was rolled a little unevenly but tasted just as delicious as before. The sausage and bacon were shaped and sized a little differently, but also tasted the same ($1 each al la carte). The sausage is slightly spiced and my favorite breakfast meat. Though the Big Hoss was my favorite, I was excited to try a side of their Cowboy Crunch French Toast ($2.99) which was pretty damned tasty!! I don't know anyone who does French Toast as well as these guys!! I absolutely adore their breakfast potatoes (crispy pieces of heaven) but I opted for trying their hash browns this time, which were fluffy (not even a little greasy) and perfectly crispy on top. Since my bagel is no longer an option, I got the English Muffin $1.99, which was overly toasted. I like it crunchy but not everyone does so you may want to request it less toasted as it becomes more difficult to eat throughout the meal. I love, love, love that they have special condiments like peach jam and jalapeno ketchup here. I used the apple jelly and it was extra yummy, because it's so hard to find in a diner/café setting. For lunch we got the Cheeseburger and the Meatloaf, both are $8.99. The cheeseburger is way too big to finish, even for a big appetite. It's hand pressed and seasoned well, the only issue was there wasn't fresh lettuce on it, eck, so we took that off. The fries are different than their old ones, thicker and crisper, I like these better. The meatloaf is becoming my favorite, even though they have really amazing dishes like pot roast, and for me was two meals. The ketchup glaze and gravy are really complimentary to the meal, mashed potatoes are as expected and I tried out their corn on the cobb. The corn was seasoned and tasty; but they didn't think through this new item enough to include holders, so it was messy and I had corn juice dripping down my sleeve. I mean... I didn't care enough to stop eating it :) but you get my point, they are still figuring out their updates. Service used to be flawless and phenomenal every time, but they have only been in their new location about a month and have a much larger staff to accommodate the crowd and extra tables. Service is still very, very, very good and they take the size of the crowd seriously and are hustling, they are just still getting into their groove. This place is currently 4 1/2 stars and improving. So do me a favor, DON'T go there, because you will fall in love with it, and then you will add to the obstacles I have to overcome to get that yummy food. Maybe try McDonalds? :P read more

I had high hopes for this place. It has 4 stars on yelp, it had to be great! Right? Well. Wrong. Their coffee was bitter. So bitter. The kids meal was acceptable. Nothing special, she ate her bacon, and the fruit was fresh. My fruit on my French toast was fresh and the French toast was okay too. But, my bacon wasn't edible. It tasted burnt even though it wasn't. Like it was cooked on a burnt surface. The hash brown casserole was awful. It's a thick pile of mushy hash browns with cheese melted on top. I expected a creamy creation of onions and potatoes and although mush is to be expected, flavor is also expected. It had none. Well, it kind of had a stale day old flavor and was also room temp. Just gross. My eggs were fine. The service was EXCELLENT. I have zero complaints about that or the atmosphere. Seems like a cool enough place. The food just left me disappointed. I won't return. I didn't even eat much of my food and I feel really nauseous. I don't think their food is fresh for the most part. Now at the new location you don't have to wait as long as the old location since it's bigger (still 20 mins but that's not bad at all compared to an 1 hour or 2 lol) The food always hits the spot and they have so much to choice from. I got their peanut butter chocolate stuffed French toast ($9.99) and it was great. I think it would have been better with strawberries then bananas but it was extra to switch that out (instead you can get the strawberry one and add the chocolate sauce and get peanut butter syrup on the side) Some other stuff I love on the menu is the sixth shooter ($12.99) and sombrero omelette (price went up on this now and it's like $12.99). Honestly you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The fried potatoes are amazing too and probably one of the best sides they have. Only sucky thing is the prices have went up compared to before, but you get so much food and the taste doesn't suffer because of that. If someone comes to visit denton bring them here! read more

All jokes aside the food was great, fast and comfortable service, and a clean atmosphere. The french toast is a must-try, covered with whipped cream and fresh fruit, but still somehow toasty and flavourfull. Our server was really nice and brought our food out quick; the place was not very busy at the time. The experience, food and service was satisfying. Highly recommend! This was a wonderful joint for brunch. Our server, Alec, was prompt and our drinks were never half empty. The food is AMAZING. You have to try this place. The cinnamon pancake is about the size of a large round plate. Completely unexpected, haha. We should've ordered only 1. It's soft, crispy on the edges, and not too sweet. Definitely order if you like pancakes. We ordered the six shooter which is the open faced biscuits with fried chicken, eggs, and hash brown casserole. The fried chicken was massive as well, very juicy and well seasoned. Biscuits were soft. Gravy was good. My least favorite was the hash brown casserole, there was a lot of unmelted cheese on top, and it was a little cold. The other item was the sausage patty, also dry and room temperature.
