Disappointed. We were in the mood for some good food, but the minute we walked in, I detected an unfriendly air. We walked in with two little ones. The lady taking our orders looked disinterested. However, her mood would perk up considerably when she saw well dressed people walking in, since she knew they worked close by. They charge for everything - including pita. The food took a long time. I saw other orders coming out for people who were behind us. Another thing that really bothered me were all the spelling errors in their menu and the poster by the door. OMG, the food is fantastic. The place itself isn't much & the location is sketchy, but get past all that and order. The Greek Potatoes were fantastic & the Mixed Grill was the best greek food I've had. With the kufta kabob, shish tawook (chicken) and gyro meet, plus a greek salad and an excellent long-grain lemony rice. Baklava was as expected, but the coconut cake has me wanting more. We will definitely return. Went with a Groupon, but the prices are so reasonable we have no problem with paying full price. Went here for lunch today and wow one of the top 10 meals I have ever had. Don't let the outside fool you because inside it is nice. Got a tour of the kitchen area and it was spotless. We totally enjoyed our first visit to this wonderful restaurant. The service was very attentive and graciously accommodated dietary restrictions. We had the baba ganoush, shwarma, mixed grill plate, baklava and Turkish coffee. All was excellent. New downtown location for some awesome Mediterranean food! My bf and I got a pretty good sampling of the menu and we loved just about everything. Still trying to figure out how simple rice could taste so good... The bass bossa was not quite up to snuff, but the hummus was superb, shawarma was scrumptious, even the salad was fresh and flavorful (their feta is way better than what I've found in stores.) This is one of the greatest finds in the Dayton area. The food is sublime and authentic. The chef is very pleasant and charming. The restaurant is clean and has a lovely atmosphere. RUN, do not walk, to this restaurant immediately. We had grape leaves, the Greek potatoes, Greek salad, the mixed grill, and baklava. It was perfection and the prices are immensely reasonable. I wanted to take my time before I wrote this review. Olive is another underground Dayton gem. We have come to Olive a dozen times in the last few months. We discovered Olive through Yelp and the many 5 star reviews. The reviewers were right again. The food is wonderful. Owned by two very friendly brothers from Palestine who must be using their Grandma's recipes. Everything is made from scratch and is very fresh. The seasoning is perfect. We have tried a majority of the menu and all of it meets the same high standards. The lamb shank is awesome. All of the appetizers are amazing. Best gyro I've ever had. Try the greek potatoes and Turkish coffee. They filter their water too!! The only drawback is the interior decor, but I really don't care. Most times we are the only customers. Other times the place has had a bunch of young Palestinians that come to jam Arabic rap. Don't be put off by the location or the interior. The place is clean and the food is wonderful. My wife and I have actually enjoyed the music. This place deserves to be packed out. I highly recommend Olive. read more

This is my favorite place for Mediterranean food in the Dayton, OH area. The lamb is succulent, the salad is fresh, and the salad dressing is particularly good. Make sure to try the lentil soup served with fresh lemon to be squeezed into it. Do not forget the Turkish coffee, it is delightful and will top off a piece of Baklava for dessert. Incredible food & value. The lamb shank was very good - flavorful and tender meat that fell off the bone. The rest of the group I was with had shawarma and vegetable platters and everyone marveled at how good their entrees were. Dayton by far is has no good places to find anything good to eat, but at least Olive has got amazing cuisine, and actual culture which is more than lacking in the horrendous city. It's not often that we find a restaurant that is excellent. The Olive is just that; wonderfully authentic with good quality ingredients. We shared the fava bean dip for appetizer-- hearty, with lemon and perhaps some garlic, very tasty. We shared the vegetarian and grilled meat platters, and were in tastebuds nirvana. The baba ganoush had a perfect smokey balance, falafels delicate with crunchy outside, the meats had unique flavors that worked perfectly with the other dishes. My children were in town and wanted some Mediterranean food. Friends had eaten here before and raved, so we gave it a try. Wonderful choice. The food was fresh, authentically prepared and VERY reasonably priced. The falafal was as good as I've had in larger cities with house made tzatziki sauce. The chicken kebobs had really tender chunks of meat and the salad which accompanies most meals was really fresh. Even the rice was tasty. The house made baklava was Turkish, not Greek, so it was sweetened with simple syrup rather than honey; quite delicious. They don't have an alcohol license, but that's easily overlooked by the quality of the food. I want to go back for lunch so I can have a Turkish coffee and some more of that baklava. Our waiter was attentive without being obtrusive. At the time we were there, the dining room was not busy but they were doing a fairly steady take out business. My only real complaint is that the serving of meat on the lamb shank dinner is not large enough--it's so good you just want more! read more

This was our first visit to Olive's but won't be our last. We had the appetizer sampler platter and it was all delicious. Our waiter Mohemmed was very friendly and made great recommendations. The service was fast and attentive. We had the tabouleh salad which was so refreshing(we found out it is made to order). We also enjoyed the rice ,gyro sandwich and bass bossa cake. I'm looking forward to trying the rest of the menu on return visits. The prices are also good for the serving sizes/items. read more
