A buddy of mine lives across the street, so one night while in town for WMC, we hit up Oliver's. Service was polite, but kind of slow, although looking towards the sidewalk provided plenty of distractions. The freshly baked bread and the spread they bring out is excellent here - in fact, my buddies actually thought it was close to the best thing. For appetizers, the escargot and grilled calamari were only so-so, but the cerviche was extremely fresh and hit the spot. The pot that came out with my french onion soup was also so-so. Cheese was done the way I like it, but the soup itself was a bit bland. Was in a pasta mood so I also ordered the fettucine with salmon, also ok. None of my friends were particularly impressed with their entrees either (although I've been told this is generally true in Miami). Rather a hidden gem on the west side of South Beach. All of the elements that matter were present... We were brought in and seated immediately, the staff was very professional, quick and friendly... The restaurant was clean and our drinks and food came out in a timely manner. We got the steak and eggs; cooked just right, quite flavorful with the house home fries which were the best I've maybe ever had. Our other dish: Blackened fish tacos which were generous in size, filled with fresh big pieces of fish and just the right sauce/stuffings to make it a little drippy and that kinda yummy that makes you want to lick your fingers - only it's not that kinda place. Worst experience I have ever had while dining out, let alone while on vacation. Waiter and staff are rude and lack customer service skills. Started with ordering an orange juice, yes a simple cup of OJ, for my son. Upon our request that the cup to be filled, not only half way, waiter rudely stated, we are the only ones who've ever complained and that is their serving (we didn't complain, simply put in a request). Then proceeded to approach our table with the OJ in a wine class to compare the liquid in their typical serving versus the cup for our son. In addition, had the nerve to tell us "your son is not going to finish the OJ anyways". 1. you cannot tell us how much my son will drink and if he only takes a few sips, we're still paying full price, if we decide to finish the OJ on his behalf, we are still paying full price. 2. His lack of professionalism when informing us of the serving, could have simply been resolved in a less rude matter.. we would have paid for two servings, WE ARE NOT CHEAP! When discussing with the manager, he was extremely rude as well. How in the world is he a manager?! Coming from Chicago where the restaurant industry is very competitive, something like this would ruin the business (we are in the industry in a MUCH HIGHER position). I visited Oliver Bistro for brunch and was extremely disappointed with my experience. The service was horrendous from the moment I walked in. The hostess barely acknowledged me and I had to wait for 10 minutes to be seated despite there being several empty tables. Once seated, our waitress was rude and dismissive, barely making eye contact with us. When our food arrived, I was disgusted to find a hair on my plate. When I brought this to the attention of our waitress, He rolled her eyes and huffed before snatching the plate away. He returned a few minutes later with a new plate, but there was no apology or acknowledgement of the hair. The food itself was mediocre at best and overpriced for the quality. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I didn't get to catch his name but he's short with black hair and has braces 0 professionalism and when i told him about the hair he said that the hair wasn't his like accusing me if it was mine.never coming back this place he still had the face to ask for a tip read more

Found this cute little place and decided to give them a try. Didn't go inside so can't say much for that part of the restaurant. But the outside was very cute and invited. With little tables and French style decor. The staff was also just as welcoming and helpful. I had the chicken schnitzel with a Caper lemon sauce which was spectacular. Despite this, we were quickly seated at our table. Service was a little slow, but the food came out very quickly. I definitely recommend any of the fresh menu items they have to offer. The Eggs Benedict was classic and good. I didn't like onions in the potatoes that came with it. The gnocchi with vodka sauce was mediocre. The vodka sauce was disappointing - tasted more like half/half sauce instead of vodka sauce - but gnocchi was okay. Patio looks into a building under construction so not a great view. My friend took me here on a hot hungover Sunday and the food totally hit the spot. It was her birthday, so we actually came back and ate dinner here as well and yes we got practically the same thing It's nice because it's on West Ave. and not Lincoln aka you avoid the crowds and sometimes jacked up prices and the atmosphere is quaint and fits the normal Miami scene: big outdoor orange umbrellas, trendy inside. We ordered the Ceviche and the Greek Salad to split. The ceviche was very fresh and cool for a hot day in Miami. It was coated with a citrus marinade dressing and had onion slices mixed with octopus, squid, and shrimp. Very tasty. The Greek salad was huge and was topped with the grilled calamari. The original dressing was a bit heavy for my tastes, so when we came back for dinner we substituted it for their lime vinaigrette which made it even better. They had huge chunks of feta cheese in it which made it an even bigger winner for me. What is a brunch without a mimosa? Oliver's were very fresh and smooth. They also start you off with some warm bread that comes with a creamy herb spread, but they also have balsamic and oil if you prefer to dip in that. The only negative thing that I have to say about the experience is that I think the waitress forgot we were outside and it took her about 15 minutes to check on us to get the bill, but we had no issues in the evening. Oh yea! For brunch they have these pancakes that I kept seeing walking by me and smelling and they looked divine!!! Oliver's reminds me of a cute little NYC-esque brunch place in the middle of SoBe! My friends and I arrived around 1 on a Saturday and I expected a wait but there wasn't any at all. There is a good amount of outside seating which we would have taken up if it weren't drizzling but I guess some of Miami's finest don't mind a little rain since the outdoor seating was pretty full ;) They have the usual suspects for brunch - i.e., lots of egg dishes--but also serve a full on lunch menu. My friend had the 3-egg white omelet with ham, mushrooms, and cheese ($11.95) and I had the Soy Glazed Seared Salmon open sandwich ($13.50) as well as a café con leche. The café con leche was pretty sizable and was about $3-4. The sandwich contained a huge chunk of delicious salmon - definitely filling. The omelet was large as well so my friend could barely finish her food. They charge $1 to substitute fries for salad which I never understand - can someone explain this to me? My third (alchie) friend had 2 glasses of Mimosa's at $7/glass which I thought was pretty normal. I like this restaurant, not because is an amazing place, but, because if you live in SOBE is one on the only places that serves actual good quality food at a fair price (not a tourist trap at all). A great local spot with a bright tropical atmosphere. This is a good place to go anytime of the day. The prices are a little above what I would expect for the dishes but so far I've been very pleased with this restaurant. I had a couple of slow service times but I didn't see any of those waiters last time I was there. Last dishes we had: Eggs Benedict (not the most incredible but were good. Had them before and will have them again), curry shrimp, which was very mild (I liked it because I can't have spicy and I could eat this) the plantains and mango relish were very good, chicken paillard salad, it was a big size, nothing special about the chicken but mixed with the salad was good. Absolutely TERRIFIC food. My family members are here the other night, before I got to town, and liked it so much we went back. Very glad we did! I ate there a few days ago and it was my second time. First time I went, I ordered breakfast and it was great. No complaints and the price is very fair being it is on West Ave... I ate there again a few days ago and got dinner. Again, the food was great... The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because both times I was there, there were flies inside. Now I know this happens when you have food everywhere but it gets annoying when they are landing on your food. I know they have outside seating too and it makes it easier for the wait staff when they are going in and out to just leave the door open. I love Oliver's- I go there a few times every month, and I've tried a lot of things on the menu. Their brunch is awesome; I really like the omelet and their belgain waffle is a sugary morning treat. Their dinner is just as good, which is important if I'm going to visit a restaurant regularly. I've had most of the chicken dishes, which are all tasty. My favorite go-to dinner is their burger, which is one of the best on the beach (and reasonably priced). I'm always really happy with their service, too. I saw that a reviewer below was unhappy with his service, and that's never been true for me. If you get an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert, you can bet that other tables will be finished before you-- that's the way restaurants work. I regularly have either the tall guy with blonde hair or the tall, skinny guy with short dark hair as my waiter, and they're both perfect-- they don't hang over your table (which makes me uncomfortable), but they're always refilling my water at the right moment. Finally, this restaurant is a great place to sit outside and enjoy Miami Beach without having to sit on Ocean Drive amidst all of the craziness. I sat across from J. Lo. once, and I also sat next to Calvin Klein once. You can't beat that for a good, truly neighborhood restaurant. read more
