Excellent drinks and meal at On Swann. I haven't been here for a long time but it's still great ambiance, service and food. We sat at the bar, shared a lovely bottle of Pinot noir and had a couple small plates to share. We had the beef carpaccio, lamb meatballs and acorn squash with mascarpone cream and candied pecans. The beef carpaccio melted in my mouth, it was fantastic. We also had the bread pudding to finish with ice cream. Overall an excellent meal. It was a Tuesday night and it was still packed. It's best to park in one of the free parking garages or on the street near the restaurant or they offer valet parking in front of the building. read more

Really excellent place to go to for brunch or dinner! Always loved this restaurant in the Hyde Park neighborhood. It's simultaneously classy but also fits the neighborhood vibes. Service was great, with food coming out fast, friendly servers, and drinks always kept full. Really enjoyed the variety of small plates, as well as the brunch options. The one thing to be aware of is that this place can get pretty loud since it's so popular. So keep that in mind if you are planning on having some deep conversations over a meal. I was finally able to cross this place off my list! My husband took me for a date night and we went the day before New Year's Eve. One of the coldest nights in Tampa. It was busy. I think all the out of town family that came down for the holidays all decided to go this particular night. I loved the outfits of the hostess. They looked cozy and comfortable making it feel like it was a family restaurant and didn't make me feel out of place for wearing jeans. I had wishes I sat closer to see the kitchen but the ambiance was nice. The restaurant would have fit perfectly in a place like Charleston, SC. Very homey but still fancy enough for Hyde Park. The food was delicious. I started with a beet salad which was so tasty. The only difference I would make would have been to add more whipped feta. It was big enough that we both were able to share. Then my husband had the beef carpaccio with pomme frites while I had the burger. Although I was given ketchup with my burger and fries, the harissa aioli was the better option to have with the fries in our opinion. My friends told me I should go for brunch, so looks like I have to go back to try out that menu. The menu is on the expensive side, so if budget is an issue you may be limited to your options but you will still have a great meal. And our server Natalia was very sweet and quick. I had a lovely meal here last night. I enjoyed the ambiance with the outdoor seating and the staff was friendly and accommodating to my dog. I ordered the beet salad which was fantastic. The lamb meatballs were also delicious, as was the fig tart, although the crust was just a bit soggy. However the flavors were on point. The chocolate was good, but a little too sweet for my tastes. I asked for a wine recommendation from the waiter and unfortunately I was not a fan of the red wine he recommended. This place is a little pricey but I enjoyed the food and the experience. I gave 4 stars purely based on the food. I came for lunch and wasn't impressed with the menu. It was mediocre. The actual taste of the food was good but nothing really to write home about. I tried all the staples and wasn't impressed. The kale salad was inventive but lacking flavor and was kinda sweet. The arancini was delicious and empanadas were good but a bit small. The chicken sandwich was again very regular. The grilled cheese was good . Our drinks were very well Made and the service was awesome. We started off at the bar with a bottle of Rombauer, Sauvignon Blanc, which was delicious and refreshing after our walk to On Swann from our nearby Airbnb in Hyde Park. We actually heard from our waitress the previous night in Sarasota that On Swan was one of her favorite places. Between her positive comments and the high Yelp ratings, I was excited and looking forward to eating at On Swann. The restaurant is an open space on the inside, like a large cafeteria but much nicer. The first thing we noticed that it was rather loud, with the dozens of simultaneous conversations of all the patrons (mostly "young", which in my world means less than 30) enjoying their meals, which created a buzz and excitement. We took our opened bottle of wine to the table and ordered a few appetizers, including the white asparagus soup which was delicious, the zeppole, saffron arancini and the burrata. We enjoyed them all. For mains, we tried the scallops (which our waitress the previous night recommended) and the half chicken. The dishes took awhile to arrive. They were very good. I thought the scallops were perfectly cooked, but that perhaps the other items on the plate overwhelmed the scallops, which tend to be light, delicate, and subtle-flavored. I did like the seasoned, long piece of dried seaweed that covered the dish; of course, you eat that first while looking at your dish - it was a very nice touch. The half chicken was well cooked and very good, toward the realm of refined comfort food. I would give On Swann a high 4 out of 5. I would love to go back to try the other items on the menu. read more

Our wait was very very short to be taken to our seats. Once seated, our table of 4 was approached immediately for drinks. They didn't have what I wanted and our waiter kindly offered an alternative suggestion instead of just saying they didn't have what I wanted. I glanced at everyone's plates on my way to the table and had a hard time deciding as everything looked so good! We had 2 starters, Mussels and Saffron Arancini -great choices! I ordered Short Rib Pasta with Burrata and my husband ordered the same except added extra mushrooms. I Shared my Burrata with him since there was enough to share! I can't even begin to describe how good the Short Rib Pasta was. Let me just recommend that you order it! Another at the table ordered Steak Frites and another ordered Scallops. We came in for my BF's birthday and if you let them know on your reservation that you are celebrating, they print menus with happy birthday at the top. The chef also sent out a special taster before our meal and they did a cookie with a candle for dessert. Our server was great and everything we had to eat was amazing. The bartenders were very accommodating, although they were extremely busy making drinks throughout the night. I had the butternut squash soup, which was really good. I especially liked the little sprinkle of sunflower seed on top, which gave it a little texture and extra taste. For my entree I had the scallops, which were also really well prepared with a very pleasing combination of flavors and textures. My favorite appetizer is the beef carpaccio. It is so fresh and nicely seasoned. I love how tender the beef is and the arugula crouton salad underneath it is fantastic. The sea scallops were so fresh and perfectly cooked - I was impressed. I also tried the short rib ragu which was plentiful and delicious. They have the most amazing berry cobbler for dessert which is what I would highly recommend! I've been here multiple times with my boyfriend and we are always satisfied. It is mostly salads and sandwiches so I had the burger and my wife had the chicken sandwich. She thought the chicken was outstanding. Said the spicy flavor and honey mixed together well. The burger was OK. I love that it had pimento cheese but the bun was over grilled. The service was good. We only drank water and he filled our glass every time he came by regardless of how full it was. It really wasn't what I was looking for but might go back some time to try the chicken. read more

A group of 3 of us went here on a Wednesday without a reservation. They told us we would have to wait 30 minutes and then eventually seated us at the open community table. We started with a meat and cheese board (not pictured). Everything was pretty tasty although the Marcona almonds on the charcuterie board were definitely old tasting. The portion size was decent and definitely fed all three of us well. I ordered the kale salad and added the grilled chicken. It was good, but I feel like I had better. The portion was large and I was not able to finish it. My cousin got the pork chop which was tasty and his GF got the steak which was good. The steak comes with a lot of food. Had an impromptu dinner w a friend and we escaped the hockey game crowds and found ourselves at On Swann in Hyde Park. Plenty of garage parking around or they offer valet. Our server, Chelsea, was friendly, attentive and gave great recommendations. We shared everything we ordered. Here we go: The beef carpaccio was my favorite. Great portion, chilled and sliced perfectly thin. The sauce wasn't overpowering. Zeppole- typically seen as a dessert, their spin pairs the fried dough balls with a savory whipped corn and ricotta dip. An easy shareable but the fried dough is filling. Mushrooms- the come piled on a nice piece of toast. Perfectly cooked with a nice bounce- not mushy. Scallops- three HUGE scallops. Super fresh. Cooked to perfection (which is always a challenge for places). Atop some Brussels and mash. Bread pudding- flavor was great but I was not a huge fan of the custard, flan like texture. I prefer a bread pudding that is slightly wobbly in texture w chunks of fresh bread in sight. This was just a bit dense. Great ambiance and wine list. Everything went well here! We decided to stop in for a long anticipated dinner after picking up my wife at the airport. Her flight arrived early ( right?) and we arrived before opening. So we took a few steps down the street to the boutique hotel and had a glass of rose at the cool bar (see separate review) and returned promptly at 5pm Parking is valet or a walk up one of the residential side streets nearby. We got a nice window seat in this cool space - a modernish bistro - with our seats looking out on the patio. Our server Skylar was fun (and efficient) and elevated our dinner experience. The curry mussels we shared came with bread that should be illegal and we washed them down with a crisp glass of Albarino from the main drink menu. A nice pause was granted before we ordered our mains and we got to chat with Skylar and Assistant GM Josh. Part of that was picking on the the sommelier for leaving vintages off the list for all but s handful of wines (pet peeve of mine and the only knock on this dinner). A solid glass of Super Tuscan accompanied the lamb meatballs and my short rib bolognese. Both delicious. We will definitely visit again when we are up in Tampa. read more
