This is one of my favorite places but I had to write this review of my latest experience. Note, the food is amazing, portion sizes are good, prices went up but it's still worth it. This review is based on my experience. I'm a frequent customer (come to the store once or twice a week and usually get 2 large bowls). Yesterday I came in, ordered my food, had a good convo with the lady who always makes my bowls good, then checked out and got my loyalty card stamped. After I paid she said that she forgot to charge me for tuna. She added a side of tuna on the screen ($.89) which came to $.98 with tax. The system wouldn't let her ring it up because it was less than the $1.00 minimum. She attempted to re-enter the charge to no avail. It wouldn't let her check out. While I was standing there she input $1.00 onto the screen, snatched my credit card out of my hand, tapped it on the card reader for payment and handed my card back. Then proceeded to tell me that she owes me $.02 when I return. TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE!!! I expected her to refund the original charge and charge me again. Or As a loyal customer, have her say it was it was ok since it was her fault. Either way it was inappropriate for her to snatch my card and charge me like she did. Not happy about that. Definitely left a sour taste in my mouth. Bottom line, protect your card. They will snatch it. read more

When you can count the number of pieces of edemame and cucumber they give you in your bowl, you know the place is stingy as hell. How the heck are they getting away with this? There are other reviews complaining about servings and they're 100% accurate. The fish is diced to about 1/2 an inch sized cubes, no exaggeration. So although you're ordering 2 scoops, you're getting the equivalent of 1 scoop if you're lucky. They're very mindful of how much you get. Typically, when a place is stingy like this, the service usually makes up for it but naw, that's lacking as well. The person putting our bowls together had attitude and kept saying everything was extra. Usually the employees know they're ripping their customers off and at least do their best to be accommodating but not this dude. Lastly, I ordered a can of diet coke and of course that was expired or past the best by date. Just all the proof that this place is cutting costs and over charging. Finally made it here before they close (which is 9pm, which a reasonable closing time. It was all on us for waiting until like 8:45pm to decide "I'm too tired to cook, lets get something but I don't know from where..."). A really decent place with a great selection and the manager/owner was very nice guy who didn't hear us say we would be right back while he waited on 3 people ahead of us (my SO decides only when we walked in to tell me she wants to bring it back instead of eating there because she wants wine. "Uh, what wine?" All our white except for her $26 of Rose from Paso Robles was gone and that was not something she wanted to waste on $14 poke). We zipped over to Ralphs 5mins away to stock up. I did have to deduct one star because they are cheating us with the "mixed greens" which is actually traditional mixed greens laid on top of my bete noir of chopped iceberg, which I hate with a near passion. They had also put away the kale noodles (we walked in 10 minutes to closing and I used to work in the resturant industry so I know this is SOP when it's slow) so I didn't know that was an option until he had already put my rice and "mixed greens" into the container. As with any poke place, if you want the sushi at it's freshest, don't come in the final hours to any particular poke or low cost sushi place. Had I noticed the "mixed greens" deception before he had already had to return half my rice to do "half & half" I probably would have asked point blank if there was fresher albacore than what he gave me which had some drying out on the edges of some of it. Hence, we will be back to give the place an honest try earlier in the evening (it's 30mins away roundtrip, which is kinda far for "quick take out" for us) PS - Dear Yelp, its very suspicious that you have added a check mark for "Food" that I cannot seem to delete and that's the one area that I had an issue with. People might not be able to "buy" good reviews, but starts to look like BS when I encounter this bit of horse hockey..... PPS - before I can post this, the only one not check marked was "Ambience," the one thing I am definitely reviewing because it's an effing poke place and I could not care less about ambience. read more
