I loooooove Ono Hawaiian BBQ. The kalua pork, chicken teriyaki and Mac salad... soooo good. Comfort food, real ingredients and substantial portions. I can usually make 2-3 lunches out of it for $15. But I'm writing this review to say that the staff working here 5:45pm on Sunday April 12, 2026 are above and beyond friendly and helpful. Everyone's always nice here but the vibe is just awesome today. Dulce and Erika helped me order and I can't see anyone else's name tag in the back but they're great too. They have new touch screen giant iPad things which is pretty cool as someone doesn't love social interactions with strangers. However there was something confusing about my specific meal choice in the app so one of the women saw me struggling and quickly came and took my order the old fashion way, with a smile. Normally Ono can take a little longer than a normal "fast food," restaurant to get your food since they're actually cooking a lot of it, but today, even though there was a family of 6 in front of me my order came out really quickly. I'm on an ebike and I was able to get a table next to the wall outlet so I can add some juice back onto it. Also randomly they have the best napkins. read more

Not this location's fault but I don't know where else to put this: They discontinued the fresh mix salad and replaced it with your standard-issue grocery store spring mix salad. Which is disappointing, and was the thing that stood out about Ono. Now there isn't anything that draws me there as opposed to any other place that serves salad with great protein options. Ordered over the phone on 2/7/26 and the staff that took my order was friendly and provided good service. I particularly asked for the chicken plate with bbq chicken and chicken katsu but she kept saying beef so I specifically said NO BEEF. She understood and repeated my order to confirm. All was good until I went to the restaurant and picked up my food. My children were so hungry and excited to eat their chicken meal to find out they put beef! What?! So we had to drive back and get it corrected. The staff again was very nice, she was apologetic but hearing my children's disappointment was heartbreaking. Lesson learned, check your order before leaving the restaurant to make sure they got it right. The food is not Hawaiian by any means, the chicken bbq and katsu chicken was just ok. The rangoon was just ok too. I remembered the food here was better back then. It is fast food. Located in Culver City, plenty of parking. Honestly I was having a bad day until I ordered Ono and it was so delicious & perfect! Whoever made my order needs to get cracked asap because you definitely made my night. I got the BBQ mix plate and it was super fresh & hot also the portions are huge. We ordered from Ono Hawaiian BBQ a few times since they started advertising on TV. We usually order the barbequed beef plate which we enjoyed. The beef was very tender, the rice perfect, the cabbage and broccoli was tasty, and the mac salad was a real winner. The first two times we ordered, I felt the food we received deserved a high rating. The last time we ordered the beef plate, the meat was a bit stringy and not tender. We ordered only one BBQ beef plate again today and once again, the beef was stringy. Because of my last experience, I ordered the chicken Katsu plate for myself as my husband wanted to give the beef plate a second chance He was not happy with the beef. My katsu plate was Ok but there was no katsu sauce. We received only the bbq sauce that accompanies the beef plate. Maybe they don't have a katsu sauce but whether they did or not, the chicken was not that good with the bbq'd beef sauce. It was a disappointing meal without the correct sauce to use for the chicken. I have to give the restaurant credit for their perfectly cooked rice, steamed cabbage, and the mac salad, which once again, was as good as always. I appreciate a take-out place that has consistently prepared food. I hope Ono Hawaiian BBQ finds a "cure" for the stringy bbq beef plate as it was a winner earlier this year and it should be a winner today. read more

Two of my 4 orders were wrong. Staff were chatting it up. When I called to complain the "shift leader" said " I checked my order yourself" clearly he didn't or he would have caught the two wrong orders. I ordered a beef Katsu mix and got a beef plate instead. Second order was meant to be the Kalbi ribs and I got another beef plate. I live 35 minutes away. I typically go to the Ono Hawaiian in Wilshire, and it's one of my favorite spots to eat at. It's delicious, the food comes quickly, and the portions are huge. The Culver City location is quite different, however. The chicken Katsu here has very little chicken, and is VERY thickly coated in batter. Also, the portion size was incredibly small. All I can say is... not good. It was completely empty and it took about 45 minutes to get our food. And when they brought it out they got one of the orders wrong and had to remake for us. The employees had no sense of urgency or care about our wellbeing. They were short and rude whenever we inquired about our order. The only good thing is the unlimited supply of Katsu Sauce. Where they lack in speed and customer service, they make up for in portion size. My husband and I stopped in for a quick to-go lunch, as I was in the area for work, and needed to get back to "home base" (aka our hotel) to finish prep work for the day. There was a small line when we walked in to order, but it didn't take terribly long to get through. It was the wait for the food that was the killer. We saw three different people complain to the manager about their wait, and the fact that their food hadn't yet come out. The manager looked for all the world like she couldn't possibly care less, and only tried to pacify one of the customers (who I took to be a regular, because they were talking like they were familiar with each other.) The wait could've been managed, I'm sure, had they not let two of their three cooks out of the back to sit and talk story with their family members, who had come in to order their own lunch. That slowed things down significantly. And then the one guy they had in the front bagging and handing over orders disappeared for a few minutes, as well. All this was going on while the manager sat there ignoring everyone and everything except her phone, and sometimes one of the guys working in the back. I guess the three other customers had a right to be angry. We ended up waiting about 20 minutes for our own order, which, when we got back to the hotel, turned out to be stacked full of food. I ordered the BBQ chicken combo, which came with rice and mac salad. There must have been five large pieces of chicken in my plate, all charred to a lovely doneness on the outside, and juicy on the inside. The mac salad was also tasty, with a creamy sauce that offered just a bit of bite and tang. If it weren't for the wait - turning my "quick grab-and-go" lunch into more of an ordeal, I would've given them a higher rating. read more

Really been trying to find some legit Hawaiian food near me and was impressed by this spot. Totally unassuming location but the dishes are loaded to the brim. Can always tell it's going to be good when the macaroni salad is awesome. I ordered the Kalua combo with Chicken teriyaki and loved it. Asked for extra teriyaki on the side and I am really glad I did. I can imagine the pork might lack flavor without the sauce. My buddy got the katsu bbq combo and he enjoyed the whole dish. No complaints and we both wiped our plates clean. I'd say- definitely ask for extra sauce of your choosing just in case you need to add some extra on your own. I come here at least twice a week. Today, I was charged more than I should've been by the cashier and caught the issue when I looked at the receipt. However, since I paid with Apple Pay they couldn't issue me a refund. When asked I asked "why?" I was told "it's your problem for not having the physical card." That is 100% a merchant issue and now as a customer I have to take the loss. If you can take my money digitally you need to be able to give it back digitally. End of story. Fix the system! Although it was incredibly busy and understaffed, the two people working on my order were wonderful. They were kind and very helpful. The food was amazing! I had Ono for the first time last week in Victorville, and I loved it, but this location was even better!! The musubi was delicious! Especially when dipped in more teriyaki sauce. The steamed rice was cooked to perfection, and the chicken katsu was still crispy and crunchy after a 20 minute car ride which is rare for fried crunchy takeout foods. And PLEASE don't even get me started on the macaroni salad! FIVE STARS for Ono Hawaiian BBQ!!!! (Yes, my Yelper community and friends! It's true! FIVE stars!). A few months ago, I purchased a couple of $20 gift certificates (for $10) from Groupon. This weekend, I decided to use them. I initially dragged myself into Ono (In Hawaiian, means "Delicious") Hawaiian BBQ in Culver City. I thought this was going to be another cheap knockoff Haole (Westernized) of the Hawaiian Plate Lunch. It was cheap, I was ready to try.... TURN THAT FROWN UPSIDE DOWN!!! The food was GOOD, just like home in Honolulu! The first dish was the Hawaiian BBQ Mixed Plate: One piece of Korean Kal Bi, two thighs of chicken teriyaki, and a nice serving of beef teriyaki meat. The food was ONO! The beef teriyaki (like bulgolgi) tasted just like it was made home in Hawaii. Tender and full of flavor. The chicken teriyaki also tasted like it was from Hawaii - tender and super yummy. The Korean Kal Bi was good. They used the same marinade across all three meats. It comes with 1.5 scoops of rice, and a scoop of macaroni salad. What put this dish to a 5 star rating was that the food was home cooked just like in Hawaii, AND the macaroni salad was DELICIOUS and AUTHENTIC. I normally *hate* macaroni salad because almost everyone tries to make it and it tastes like goopy mayonaise. But Ono Hawaiian BBQ macaroni salad taste just like Zippy's Mac salad (a popular restaurant in Hawaii). I actually ate the entire serving of macaroni salad! The second dish that I shared was the chicken katsu. I again have to say WOW!! The chicken thigh was breaded with a Japanese panko breading and deep fried. The serving was 2-3 chicken thighs, sliced into 3/4"-1" slices. Well made!!! Tasted just like it was made in Hawaii. My *only* minor complaint about the food was that the katsu sauce was *NOT* good. It tasted just like a Westernized version of a Panda Express dipping sauce. But, heck, the chicken katsu was so well made, it made up for the junky sauce. Food Grade: A! The chicken was A-ok. I would give the place 3 stars just for the chicken. The bbq beef was pretty tasty, but it comes in small little cut up pieces. The short ribs (?), not short ribs in my book. Short ribs to me mean big thick bony slices where the meat falls off the bone. With these ribs you have to pull it off the bone and there's not much there to begin with, and the slices are really thin. I ate the chicken, gave the rest of the beef to Joey, cut up in his dog food. It was a treat for him, not for me. The service is quick and the place is clean (a little cold) so if you want something that doesn't cost much and gets out to the table quick, you may like it. I wouldn't go back except for the chicken. Oh, the surprise. Some people may not like it but underneath the chicken was a small pile of cooked cabbage which I thought really complimented the meat. Nice bland cabbage with well spiced chicken. The rice was just eh. A little bit sticky and overcooked for me. This place is in a shopping center where Ross and Verizon are, so it;'s convenient.
