Because it's by appointments only, Phamala, the nail artist, is never rushing to get me out the door so she can get to her next client. I know that when I go to Opaque, I will be relaxed and pampered for entire time. The manicures and pedicures at Opaque are more than just manicures and pedicures. Phamala is full of nail health knowledge, truly pampering each client with thoughtfully products and tools to ensure that my nails and cuticles will be looking good even after I leave. Greeted, seated, and offered a drink. She did a great job on my feet! Even better than where I had been going for the past year. She did a very thorough job at cleaning up and around my cuticles so the nail beds are very neat and tidy! She has a great line of nail polish and colors. I chose a nude color #5 called "Boss." Let me first start this off by saying that I came to Pam in need of desperate help. I had a horrible experience at a different Nail Salon in which the nail tech left my toe nail infected and I developed a Paronychia. I had to go see a podiatrist and had to remove half of my toenail. I was devastated and frankly, embarrassed, with no sense of where to go to make my toe nails presentable again. We were in the heat of summer, and I did not want to wear a band-aid for the next 6-8 months while my nail grew back. I just found myself not able to trust your every day nail salons to help me with my situation. I have been going to the Beauty Session Collective since it's opened, and have had my brows done by Monica since...I don't even know. It's been a really long time. So I was already familiar with the space when I heard of Opaque joining. I love the vibe there, it's so clean and fresh. I reached out to Pam and told her my situation. She was highly recommended and she helped educate me and let me know my options. I went to see her and she took such great care of my feet and hands. She uses products that are not harsh and you can feel that she really cares about her work and only uses the best products with ingredients that are top notch. She used the gel extension technique to make my toenail whole again. You can tell her artistry took over because it really was like she was sculpting a piece of art to make my toe look normal again (haha!). (Fun fact, she has a degree in the arts, and she is an artist.) My shame had disappeared. She really gave me the confidence I needed, back. I really appreciate the attention to detail, the education and the time and care that Pam puts into each and every session and client. You can relax and not feel like you're in a nail chop shop. Joselyn and Pam are top notch. I was initially drawn to Opaque because of the use of tubs for pedicures, and the holistic approach to foot care and health. The level of attention and detail to foot care is beyond that of any nail salon that I've been to in PDX. The space is incredibly calming with natural light and shared with a few other independent female business owners. Great vibe. Both Pam (the owner) and Joselyn are thorough and gentle, and provide education with their care. Parking is great too. One thing to keep in mind is that one product used for routine care contains the antifungal clomitrazole. If do not want this medication applied or prefer more natural products, I would tell Pam or Joselyn prior to the service. read more

I recently moved to area and was apprehensive about going to a new place but I found Opaque by searching through Dazzle Dry. I have done nothing but dry manicures and pedicures using this product for 3 years. They last 4-6 weeks and the polish drys in less than 10 minutes. Gave this salon a solid month run and was disappointed more than I was impressed. First off let me start by saying I really like the dry manicure/pedicure technique and the durability of the gel overlay, but it pretty much tops there. A basic one color paint job is fine, but it seems like anything beyond that and the execution is hit or miss. I requested a layered French tip on my nails that had quite some length to them. The final product was not great... uneven, shaky lines and just kind of a sloppy look all around. Now learning is a part of the process... I understand but 120 for the service is not acceptable. When I reached out to mention something about it I was given a "credit" on the design portion of the next manicure ($20). Where if was also mentioned next time it was suggested I send a photo of my requested design... it was a pretty standard French tip... not sure how much advance notice is necessary. From there I also got a few pedicures. Again, they were fine, but at one of my appts the tech made me bleed and no comp or credit was given. It was the skin under my toe that was clipped. Was pretty painful and required and bandaid for several days. And lastly the straw that broke the camels back was be calling to inform of potential COVID exposure. I called the morning of my appt to let them know as they take it very seriously. As I anticipated I was asked to reschedule the appt, but surprisingly was charged for the full cost of appt within minutes. I understand having a cancellation policy but charging me in full for an appt you will not let me attend after I've showed a courtesy to inform you of COVID exposure just seems backwards. All you're encouraging is for people not inform and show up anyways. It was also mentioned they would try to fill the appt and charge me if they could not, however I was charged immediately after canceling and it doesn't appear any effort was made to fill my appt. Over all nice staff and basics are okay, but the extras and the cost over all not worth it. read more

I had pretty much given up hope on finding my go-to nail salon after a lot of negative experiences. I decided to give Opaque a chance after reading a lot of encouraging reviews. I liked that I was able to set up my preferences and post inspiration through their online booking system. I also appreciated I was asked to voice what my main goals were to achieve at my appointments. Cleanliness and relaxation is super important to me. Pam is truly a gem and made that happen for me! We chatted in the most beautifully done studio. It's always such a peaceful experience and I leave feeling like I have a new friend! I was given rude service after not booking the correct appointment. Extremely overpriced for what it is. only two nail techs , only one of which does any sort of nail "extension" and no acrylics. Nail art costs upwards of 80+ for a gel manicure, somewhere around $100 dollars for the lowest tier of nail art for a gel manicure (I was told the pictures I sent in would be even more money (level 2?) after I had already driven all the way there, even though the nail art I sent was very basic). Honestly pretty unprofessional, considering they make you pay a small fee in advance AND require a fee if you cancel less than 48 hours before. Website is super confusing. Didn't try to clarify if I wanted extensions even though the reference pictures I sent in were all of fake nails. read more
