Such a cute spot for brunch in K-Town! Super easy to valet park here (and only $15 for three hours, which is a steal for K-Town). I got the Paloma, it was refreshing but I would have preferred tequila to mezcal. I paired it with a cinnamon roll for the table (so gooey and yummy, always a good idea) and a soft omelette with mushrooms and breakfast potatoes. This was a solid choice, the brekky potatoes were nice a crispy. My only disappointment was the service. We had someone who was gluten free and the server couldn't make any good recommendations for her. For LA, I thought this was quite odd, as many places have a dedicated gluten free menu and I would assume that any good chef knows how to handle this common food allergy. I don't think I'd recommend this spot for folks with a gluten allergy in the future.

Made a reservation for Saturday morning and had a really good experience overall. Street parking was surprisingly easy, and they also offer valet with validation which is nice. There's an Alfred Coffee on the first level too, which I loved. I got there a bit early and they let me hang out by the pool/bar area while I waited for my friends -- super chill vibe. I ordered the eggs benedict with potatoes and a side salad, and everything was really good. One of my friends got the hanger steak (didn't try it, but it looked great). I also ordered a grapefruit drink -- really refreshing. Service was attentive without being over the top, which I appreciated. Only downside for me: the pancakes. We got a half stack and they were like $12 for small ones... honestly not worth it. Also, there's an automatic 20% service charge, just something to be aware of. Bathrooms were clean, music was good, and the whole place had a fun "cute casual but still dressed up" vibe. Definitely a good spot if you're celebrating something.

I think this was their French dip sandwich with sweet potatoes and it was so good! I truly wasn't expecting it to be so flavorful and well balanced-- the meat and cheese with the pickled onions The au jus was really good too! Not too salty. And you can't go wrong with some sweet potato fries and sauce to dip! Service and space were amazing as well!! There's AC so don't even worry about it being hot with the window design.

My new favorite brunch! It's on a rooftop of Line Hotel and has an amazing greenhouse ambience. The food was soooo good. I really enjoyed the eggs benedict with ham. The hollandaise sauce with the poached egg and ham was just perfection. I liked the crispy potatoes and the salad it came with as well. The potatoes were the perfect crispiness level and the salad was a refreshing yuzu like taste. The avocado toast was surprisingly really good! I thought it would be more simple but it pleasantly surprised me! I liked how they add cucumber and pickle veggies along with the microgreens on top.

Came here to catch up with a friend for brunch. Food: If you come, come only for the aesthetic ambiance. The food was not so great. It was cold when it was first brought out! The ingredients did not taste fresh. The potatoes were slightly hard to eat. I couldn't even finish it. The sausages were difficult to bite into. I'm not sure how breakfast food could be messed up this badly. The eggs were alright. My friend also did not really like her plate too. Service: We were seated pretty quickly as there was no line. It was relatively empty at the time. Our servers were kind and brought out our food in a timely manner. Parking: $10 valet. There's no free parking. Overall: I wouldn't come back. The food was below mediocre for me. It was definitely pretty though seeing all the plants around you while you eat. I liked how the tables had mini flower vases in the center. Very aesthetically pleasing but if you're looking for quality food, I'd double think before coming here!

This place is pretty good. We came here for the Dine LA week. I'm not sure how representative that is of their general menu. This is at a second floor of a cool looking hotel. They do have valet parking which the restaurant validates. I assume you could park nearby on the street but not totally sure. The set menu was interesting. I liked my appetizer of ahi tuna though it was nothing super exciting. The beef I had was good though it was on a weird mash that I later read was sweet potato - and it was just a bit too sweet. I did like the beef which was tender and the swiss chard was a good side. The dessert was really good. This restaurant looks like a greenhouse. It seemed like it was only maybe a third full. I imagine it would be an easy place to meet if you are staying at the hotel, but did seem a bit pricey for what you got. The service was fine but they told us we couldn't split the bill three ways, only two ways. I don't know if I'd recommend for group dining if that is their standard policy.

OpenAire : OpenAire in K-town is a special terrarium of a space perfect for an upscale Mother's Day, a fun long tabled birthday or a very ruckus brunch. The space is Instagrammable in every sense of the genre. It gives Eco-plant-chic as sunlight beams and a glass housing to remind each other ever throw stones. It's happy and bright and the service matches it. The food portions and flavors are as well and we are lucky to have it in our beautiful town. Thank you OpenAire for your open heart. I promise to stay at the Line hotel as I think their lobby is fabulous as well because who doesn't enjoy a lobby happy hour within brutalist poured concrete.

I've been wanting to give this place a try. We finally came since it offerer Dine LA menu. Openaire is located in THE LINE Hotel. There is valet but we found parking on the streets. The restaurant does validate. We had reservations for dinner on a Sunday night, and it wasn't crowded at all. Our server was attentive and helpful. The food was delicious and unique. I can see how people are saying it can be pricey. With Dine LA, it was a good deal. The Tuna Tartare was really tasty; especially with the sweet potato chips. The Braised Beef Paleron was very flavorful and melts in your mouth. It was my first time having the Okinawa sweet potato. It paired well with the beef. The dessert was just right as well. I liked the Passionfruit Creme Brulee better since I'm not a chocolate person. I want to come back to try their brunch and to see this place in the day time.

Had my little freakier Friday moment eating here as I just watched the movie and hadn't been back to the Line hotel since it was a different restaurant so I was happy to come back. Valet at the hotel is available and with validation from the restaurant is I think $14 if I remember correctly. The restaurant is beautiful within a greenhouse area. Everything we tried tasty pretty good, some more stand outs than others. My favorites were: + house milk bread - soft and light and the porcini butter was savory with lots of umami + roasted Japanese sweet potatoes - sweet and savory! + crispy duck confit - the kimchi rice below was delish! What I would personally skip: + Tempura squash - textures were there but overall flavor profile was subtle + snake river farms wagyu zabuton was overall fine, but all the components felt more separate than complimentary? + carrot Swiss roll - tougher texture, I think in the fridge too long

We specifically chose Openaire because they were advertising this Koreatown Gwishin (Ghost) Dinner for Halloween, complete with immersive storytelling, Korean ghost lore, a Daegu fortune teller, and spooky dinner theatrics. We thought it would be such a cool, Korean-themed Halloween night. But when we arrived and asked about the storytelling... not a single staff member had any idea what we were talking about. We asked multiple people and everyone looked confused. Where was the Daegu Fortune Teller? I wish they were present just to tell us this whole thing was a hoax. Lol. The good news: The ambiance is stunning. This restaurant is undeniably beautiful with dreamy greenhouse vibes with warm lighting and lush greenery. The atmosphere alone makes you want to stay for hours. The food and cocktails were delicious, and the special Halloween menu was executed perfectly, so zero complaints there. There was a magician/mentalist performing that night, and his trick actually blew my mind. I'm still thinking about how the X mark ended up on the inside of my left palm even though I was gripping my hands super tight. So props to him because that was memorable and very on-theme in its own way. The not-so-good: Our server felt lost, almost like it was her first day. And overall, it just didn't seem like anyone had been briefed on the event that was being heavily advertised. I just don't think they thought this concept through. If you're going to promote an immersive themed experience, the team should at least be aware of it. Bottom line: We still enjoyed our meal because the ambiance and food truly delivered. But next time, please don't advertise something and then pull the plug without telling your staff, it just makes everyone look confused, including the guests. Would I return? Yes -- for the vibes and food. Would I return for a themed event? A hard no!

I had a reservation for brunch on a Saturday to celebrate my birthday. Although it's good to have a reservation, you could probably walk in and still get seated quickly, there were plenty of tables. Greenery growing all over giving a greenhouse vibe which was so cute. I had read many great reviews about the food but unfortunately I don't think I share the same sentiment. We ordered a few dishes and most were pretty disappointing in flavor, although they all looked absolutely beautiful. The presentation was superb. We started with the tuna tartar which was served with sweet potato chips and that was probably the best thing we had. We got a couple mocktails and lattes, the drinks were not bad actually, quite delicious and they looked so pretty too. For the entrees, we had the huevos rancheros, steak and eggs, the salmon egg benedict, and the coconut chia pudding. We sent back the chia pudding..the coconut milk was a little overpowering. The steak and eggs was good, the steak was cooked well and came with kimchi rice which was flavorful and not too spicy. However the salmon benedict was rather disappointing, the eggs were so undercooked it disintegrated. The huevos rancheros was okay, decent flavor but it was very mild. The service was great though, they were very kind and friendly, making sure we were taken care of. They did charge a 18 dollar cake fee, so keep that in mind if you're coming for a special occasion.

    Duck Pasta
    Michelle L.

TLDR - ambiance and apps here are better than the entrees IMO; i think it's more of a hang with friends and vibe in a nice atmosphere Food: my favorite apps were the crudo & the kale salad, although everything was pretty good! * For entrees, the steak (not pictured) and jerk chicken were pretty good but neither of the duck dishes were that great. The duck pasta was minced so you couldn't really taste the flavor /couldn't differentiate with another meat and the duck kimchi rice was just ok. The kimchi fried rice was more sour than I liked and had some pear slices on top to make it a bit sweeter, overall kind of soggy. Service: a little slow but the waiters are super friendly and helpful with any questions/recommendations Parking: KTOWN parking is pretty hard since this is located @ the Line Hotel so you either need to valet or street park and walk

I drove five hours straight from San Jose, just in time for brunch, on my first day of vacation in LA three years ago. There was a wait in line for walk-ins, and almost everyone dressed nicer here compared to the tech people in SF restaurants. The rooftop restaurant was located on the third floor of The Line LA. After a 30-minute wait, we were seated outside the greenhouse with shade. We ordered their popular dishes: Ahi Tuna Tartare- fresh tuna with avocado mousseline and sweet potato chips to scoop everything together. Citrusy on the avocado, and the chips were crispy like wonton chips. Corn Flake Crusted French Toast- it had caramelized banana slices on top, and the toasts were fried with corn flakes. It was sweet and a bit crunchy, like eating a croquette. Great for dessert. Hibachi Steak and Egg- The steak was tender and served with Kimchi fried rice and sunny-side egg. A fancier version of Loco Moco, but with a Japanese-Korean flair, California style. The sauce really helped make this whole dish exceptional. If you want it fancier, add the lobster for an extra charge. Service was pleasant. It was too busy on a Sunday. I parked on the street across the hotel with the meter, so I didn't have to pay their pricey valet parking inside the hotel. Overall, it was pricey due to their presentation, but a great way to splurge on special occasions and to catch up with a group of friends in DTLA.

    Openaire Reviews in Other Languages

    Ask the Community - Openaire

    Is there a dress code?

    Nope, just casual.

    How much is valet PARKING?

Valet parking is $12. Validation is also required, or you will pay additional fees.

Are babies welcome for brunch? Is the vibe fitting?

Yes. I was there with a child. However, if you're in a booth and it's crowded, a place for the stroller will be hectic. It'll be better to be at a table.

How is the parking for Openaire?

Valet option is available. Street parking is timed and very limited.

Is there a full bar here?

There is indeed! A quite pretty one at that!

Are there open windows in the greenhouse to allow good air flow or is it all enclosed?

If you're worried about covid... it's not that airy.

What is the parking situation on a Sunday morning? Please let me know.

They have valet which was super easy to do, you may find some street parking around but might have some restrictions (I just went for valet last time)

    Do dogs allow at patio?

    I don't think so

I've reserved "standard" seats through Open Table, does that guarantee seats in green house?thanks!

When I reserved OpenTable standard seats I put in the notes "Greenhouse seating request." I also let the hostess know when I checked in on the day of my reservation. We were seated in the Greenhouse with no problems.

Do they offer bottomless mimosas for brunch?…

    Yes, they do.

Is there access to the pool from the restaurant?

Dining doesn't grant access to pool, but it is on same level and you can possibly be seated right across it.

What is the "standard" seat on the reservation website? There are two options: outdoor seating and standard seating. Is standard seating located in the greenhouse?

I reserved outdoor and was seated in the greenhouse.

How much is bottomless mimosas and from what time is it available?

Hey there. The bottomless mimosas are $ 25, endless drinks for 2 hrs. Between 10am-2:30 pm Enjoy

Are they still doing bottomless for brunch?

I called and they said yes but didn't give me a price

What time is sunday brunch til?

10-2:30. Always refer to website for answers. It's not posted then call.

Are dogs allowed on the outside area?

I saw a girl bring her dog in a dog stroller. I'm going to assume yes

What number can I call to make reservations?

I made reservation on opentable. There is a deposit if you have a party of 6 or more. Or go to thelinehotel.com to reserve

What's the max they can sit for a table? Can they do 8?

I've seen long tables where they can sit 8, but call to confirm because seating is limited inside the green house dining.

I emailed regarding a reservation inquiry a few days ago, would it be better to call a specific number instead? I've been unable to get a hold of anyone yet

Me too! I tried two different numbers and just keeps ringing! 😫

Do you need to have a reservation for brunch? Or can you walk in? Not able to get anyone on the phone.

Hi Shanyn, we recommend our guests to make a reservation via Opentable.com; otherwise we do take walk-ins too depending on availability and wait time

Dinner was $70 per person and consisted entirely of shared plates. It turned out to be plenty of food. We started with the roasted shishito peppers and the crispy pork belly. That pork belly was the best dish of the night - absolutely delicious. Next came the chickpea fritters, which were also really good. The roasted beet salad was up next. I hate beets. But I still liked this. I wouldn't order it again because, yeah, I really don't like beets. But if you like them even a little, you should get this. I actually ate several bites of this, and it was nice. The Sichuan Chili Bass presented a similar situation as I don't really like fish - but again, I ate this and it was quite tasty. Dessert was a "s'mores" situation - a messy, glorious bowl of chocolate, meringue, graham cracker crunch and strawberries. Service was awesome - perfectly pacing the meal. My friend had a couple of cocktails which were gorgeous. And the room is lovely and light. I don't love the neighborhood and parking can be tough. I definitely would come early unless you're taking a taxi. Genuinely surprised how much I liked this meal. Everything was very well done and clearly made with care without seeming fussy or too precious. Highly recommend and would definitely come back. This is a place to take your out-of-town friends to.

We made a reservation through OpenTable and arrived about 5 minutes early. They were able to seat us pretty quickly, so the whole check-in process was easy. The restaurant itself is beautiful and spacious, with tall ceilings and plenty of plants. At night, the lighting is moodier and gives the whole space a warm, buzzy atmosphere. Unfortunately, the restaurant itself was also literally warm lol. It wasn't unbearably hot, but definitely warmer than comfortable, especially while eating something like curry. Granted, it was 95°F+ outside that day, so maybe the AC was just fighting for its life. We ordered: * Goat liver mousse * Wood-fired broccoli * Pickled pepper blueberry cornbread * Lamb curry Surprisingly, I think the wood-fired broccoli was my favorite dish of the night. It had a really nice char with a slight tanginess that kept me going back for more. The cornbread and goat liver mousse were both just okay for me. I wanted the cornbread to be richer and more buttery, and the blueberry didn't come through nearly as much as I expected. The goat liver mousse was fine, but weirdly I almost wanted it to taste more like goat? For something centered around goat liver, the flavor felt pretty tame. The lamb curry had a nice curry flavor, but it was missing the depth and complexity I've had in really good curries. There also wasn't much actual lamb in the dish, which made it even harder for it to stand out. Overall, nothing we had was particularly bad, but aside from the broccoli, nothing made me think, "I need to eat this again." The space and interior honestly left a stronger impression on me than the food. Maybe we just didn't order the right dishes, because this place is clearly popular; but with so many other restaurants in the Arts District, I don't see myself choosing Girl & the Goat over them for a return visit.

A lot of people think that "fall off the bones" are the perfect way for ribs dish. But actually that is incorrect. If you're curious of how perfectly made BBQ ribs supposed to taste like, feel free to come to this place. They'll show you how it should be. -:- this place made the best with all fresh ingredients. I never liked spread before. But here, they made their tuna spread from fresh ingredients and not from canned ingredients. If you'd like to know how good a spread tuna spread tastes like, this is the place to go! And don't get me started with their bread. Talking about fresh! They make cloud bread (my opinion). Deep fried cauliflower: first, they boiled/blanched the cauliflowers perfectly, breaded and deep fried. If you'd don't like veggies, you have to come here and get this dish. The sauce, they made it from fresh lime juice! Not from any bottled ones that majority restaurants out there use for short cuts. This including their tomato salad. Will we revisit? Yes! 1000% many many many more times!

We ordered: Mushroom crispy rice- strong umami dish, rice was crispy and the poured over broth was delicious Yellowtail slices- the passion fruit marinade was something we haven't seen on a carpaccio and we enjoyed this as a light appetizer Bing with ricotta, jam, and chili oil- this really stood out, definitely a must have at this restaurant. Great mix of flavors. Smoked pork chop- we wouldn't normally get this, but the waiter suggested it and we ultimately trusted him. Probably the best pork chop we've ever had. It was perfectly cooked, with tender meat and fat that melts in your mouth. The coconut milk in the collared greens was also a nice touch. Yuzu lemonade- they must be squeezing this fresh in the back, it took a while to come but it was so good. Love a more tart drink, and this was a perfect palate cleanser between dishes. This was more than enough for two people, we both ate to our fill and had enough for one lunch the next day. Not sure if it was intentional, but all dishes came out individually. I think some things (ie rice/pork) would have been nicely paired together so that you can balance your palate and pace yourself better. Also, a bit pricey for what you're getting, but to be expected from a celebrity chef's restaurant in LA. I will say that the chase sapphire credit helped my wallet digest it more comfortably (and the sapphire gift side dish was a plus!) Overall a great experience that I would like to have again with more bing and some new dishes.

I started with the cream biscuits, butter, and country ham, which were absolutely delicious. The market lettuce with pickled carrots, ricotta salata, hazelnuts, coriander, and buttermilk dressing was fresh, flavorful, and equally impressive. I also ordered the Liberty duck breast with wild mountain huckleberry jus, Asian pear, and spruce tip salt. The duck was very good, but the dish that really had my mouth watering and wanting more was the Italian sweet peppers with poblano cream, green chorizo, Cotija, breadcrumbs, and cilantro. So flavorful and satisfying! To finish, I had the banana pudding with macadamia nuts. It was beautiful and absolutely delicious--a perfect ending to the meal. I'll definitely be back to try more items on the menu. Manuela did not disappoint! The service was great and the drinks were strong.

The food was overall tasty, although I felt my steak was tougher than usual for the price point. The shrimp ceviche, although good quality and refreshing, had a slightly bitter taste to it (more so than the usual citrus tang) which I felt detracted from the overall flavor. It kind of felt like there were too many ingredients to it which detracted from the tasty simplicity that the dish is known for, although that is just my opinion and someone else may enjoy it more. The service on the other hand was not particularly good. Our waitress came off as slightly standoffish when asked about gluten free options and failed to refill our water cups multiple times throughout the meal, to the point my partner had to get up and do it herself. The sneaky 4% service charge automatically added to the bill also left a bad taste in my mouth. I have always been of the mind that the responsibility of compensating staff adequately falls on the business, not the public, and any extra tip is for good service and should remain optional by the customer, especially when they charge this much for basic entrees. Our bill came out to over $100 for two people (2 dishes, 1 shared appetizer, no drinks besides water) for breakfast. Overall I'd give this place 3.5 stars, worth checking out, but probably not worth frequenting often. Ambiance is an 8.5/10, the food was about a 7/10, the value was a 6/10, and the service was a 5/10. The food was solid, the ambiance was nice, the value is average to below average, and the service could use a little work. That being said, it's a nice place worth checking out, just make sure you ask to have that 4% charge removed from your bill, and tip accordingly.

The kind of spot where you walk in and immediately think, Yep... this is where you bring someone you're trying to impress. The ambience hits that perfect balance of modern, moody, and stylish, a little sexy, a little artsy, and fully date‑night certified. Service was on point the entire night, for my experience, maybe cause they know I was was going to tip very heavily. Ha ha ha. Which ai did by the way! Staff was attentive without hovering, knowledgeable without being pretentious. The team here knows the menu inside and out, and they guide you like they're curating an experience rather than just taking an order. Drinks topped off, plates cleared smoothly, pacing perfect. High‑end feel without the high‑end attitude. Let's talk about the food. Filipino Fusion Done With Swagger Ribeye Salpicao, This dish is straight-up dangerous. Tender ribeye cubes seared with garlicky, buttery goodness, the kind of salpicao that makes you rethink every bite you have. Rich, savory, and addicting. If you don't guard your plate, someone at the table will steal a piece. "Because I know I would!" Rockfish Pritong, it was crispy on the outside, flaky on the inside, and seasoned like someone's Filipino auntie whispered the secrets of life into the batter. Bright, punchy flavors with that perfect crunch. Definitely a sleeper hit. Crispy Duck Pancit, This one is wild, pancit with a crispy duck twist that somehow feels both comforting and elevated. The noodles soak up all that savory duck richness, and the crispy skin on top. Wow, a moment of silence for how good that bite is. Papaya Salad, so fresh, bright, and refreshing. A perfect palate reset between the heavier dishes. Crunchy, citrusy, and balanced, the kind of salad that actually earns its spot on the table. Grilled Eggplant Salad, smoky, silky eggplant with a char that tastes like it came straight off a backyard grill in Manila. Light but flavorful, and a great contrast to the richer plates. Pasta Palabok, a true Filipino classic reimagined. Creamy, savory palabok sauce wrapped around pasta instead of noodles, bold move, but it works. The textures are luxurious, and the flavors stay true to the original. Tare Tare Tamale, definitely one of the most creative dishes of the night. A fusion tamale with tare flavors that hit sweet, salty, and umami all at once. Soft masa, rich filling, and a flavor combo that makes you pause mid‑bite. "Mmmm hmmm!" Hamachi, so clean, fresh, and beautifully plated. The kind of hamachi that melts instantly and makes you feel fancy even if you're wearing sneakers. Of course I had my dress shoes on. It has bright citrus notes and just the right amount of heat. Sampa nails the high‑end, artsy vibe without feeling stiff. Trendy lighting, modern décor, and a soundtrack that keeps the energy fun. Perfect for date night, anniversaries, or when you want to look like you know the cool spots in LA. Sampa is Filipino fusion with confidence, bold flavors, gorgeous plating, and an atmosphere that elevates the whole night. If you're trying to impress your significant other, celebrate something special, or just treat yourself to a killer meal in the Arts District, this place delivers. Our dish picks were organized ahead of time and the staff did a great job at pacing the dishes and making sure enough was ordered for our party size. Favorites were hands down the Bluefin Tuna Toast, Edna's Sour Milk Cornbread, Cherokee Tomato Cesar, Mushroom Crusted Pork Chop, and the Beef Ribeye (the bone marrow made this even better!) so if you have to make tough decisions I'd prioritize those and honestly skip dessert. The restaurant has a hip/cozy feel and you can see the chefs making the food in the open kitchen which is right in the dinning room. There is valet parking or if you luck out you may be able to find street parking around neighboring streets.

We arrived an hour early to see if we could be seated even 15 minutes earlier, as we had a show to get to immediately following dinner, and the host was enthusiastically accommodating, bringing us to available bar seats. I always appreciate a restaurant that has the foresight to leave some bar seating available for walk ins. Even at the bar, the ambiance was lovely. The sommelier was also very knowledgeable and brought us the last glass of a wine we saw on their online menu that had been taken off that week. For the food, every dish was delicious. My favorite standouts would be the bluefin and the tomato Caesar (which I was skeptical of at first and then loved every bite). I will say I was disappointed by the cornbread given its popularity. For me the flavor was just overwhelmingly honey, and lacked a kick from the jalapeño and corn texture. This is one component of southern food I miss and it just wasn't what I wanted in a cornbread. I'd definitely suggest it as dessert. The stew and pork chop were also good. My only constructive feedback is that nearly everything on the menu was rich and heavy and having some options to balance that out would be nice. I felt almost too full and could feel my arteries being clogged as I walked out, but I recognize that this is partially my fault for overindulgence and absolutely to be expected for this type of fare. Altogether a great experience. Wear your big pants!

This is a long-overdue post. République has been on my must-visit list of LA dining experiences for…read morequite some time. I just never realized where it was since I don't usually make it out to Hancock Park. Then one day, while I happened to be in the area, I stumbled upon it and had one of those "Wait...this is here?!" moments. You ever have one of those places you've wanted to visit forever, only to realize it was much closer than you thought? My first visit was actually for dessert after having a less-than-memorable lunch at Mish down the street. Unfortunately, I arrived later in the day and most of the pastry case had already been wiped out, leaving only a limited selection. The staff recommended the Dulce de Leche Cremadette ($6.75), and I'm glad they did. It was perfectly flaky, buttery, and sweet, with the dulce de leche tucked inside the pastry. The caramel reminded me of the caramel coating on a caramel apple. I also picked up some brownies at the staff's recommendation, and those were fantastic -- incredibly moist, rich, and delicious. Definitely a must-get. I was a little disappointed that I missed out on the majority of the pastry selection, but I was told that the pastries are made in limited batches each day and once they sell out, that's it. So if you're coming specifically for the pastries, get here early. Earlier this summer, I made the acquaintance of an OG Yelper, Joseph A., and we've been corresponding back and forth on Yelp. I happened to know that he's a regular at République, so I asked if he'd be interested in meeting me right when they opened. I figured if anyone knew what to order, it would be him. Joseph was incredibly kind and gracious enough to treat me to breakfast. I ordered his usual breakfast recommendation: the Regular Breakfast ($24), which comes with bacon steak, fingerling potatoes, a demi baguette, French butter, jam, and an egg prepared any style. Joseph went with the soft scramble, and I followed his lead. That was definitely the move. They really know how to cook eggs here. The soft scramble was absolutely divine -- creamy, delicate, and perfectly cooked. The bacon steak was a little on the salty side, but still very good. The demi baguette was excellent, especially with the French butter and jam. Honestly, I could have eaten several pieces of that baguette with the butter and jam alone. The fingerling potatoes were nicely seasoned and quite good on their own, but a few dashes of hot sauce really took them up another notch. I'll be honest: $24 is definitely on the pricey side for what you're getting, especially when you break down the individual components. That said, when you factor in the quality of the food, the setting, and the overall experience, I can understand why people are willing to pay it. Of course, it helps that I didn't have to pick up the tab this time. Lucky me! We also shared several pastries, and every single one was excellent in its own right. I'm officially hooked on the pastries here. They just don't miss. Service was pretty good during my visit. One thing worth noting is that République adds a 4% surcharge to the bill to help cover healthcare for their staff. It's certainly something to be aware of when looking at the final bill. f you're looking for a quintessential LA brunch experience to take out-of-towners to, République is a great option. Just be prepared for potentially long lines, especially on weekends. I visited on a weekday morning over the summer, so I didn't personally experience the weekend crowds. My only real wait was at the pastry counter during my first visit. I've heard you can expect people lining up before they even open at 8AM, so plan accordingly. The cult following surrounding Walter and Margarita Manzke's restaurant/café is understandable. Between the food, pastries, atmosphere, and history of the building, there's a lot to appreciate here. And speaking of history, the building itself is pretty special. The property was built in 1928 by Charlie Chaplin. It became a restaurant in 1989 when chefs Mark Peel and Nancy Silverton transformed the space to open La Brea Bakery and Campanile. After Campanile closed in 2012, the building was renovated and modified to open up the space while returning it closer to the spirit of its original construction. République opened in 2013 and has been going strong ever since. Do yourself a favor and eat at République. Come for the food and pastries, but also take some time to appreciate the ambiance and the history of this incredible LA property. And whatever you do, get here early if you want the pastries. Once they're gone, they're gone! Don't walk--run to République.
