I've tried a lot of the menu at Orange Square over my visits, but this time around I went with the teriyaki and the ji pai (fried chicken cutlet) bentos. Both were really good and tasty! I love that their bentos have such a good variety so you aren't just eating one thing the whole time. They also include a great mix of vegetables, which gives you a nice balance with all the heavier fried stuff. I would get the ji pai again. I also grabbed two of their tea drinks with boba this time. It had the right amount of sweetness, but honestly, I wouldn't get it again--it just tasted like a normal tea I could easily make myself at home. It wasn't too busy when I went, so it was a quick and easy stop, with parking easy for me at the time, but I can imagine during peak periods parking would be hard to navigate there.

Balanced meals packed into bento boxes for those looking for some comfort Chinese food and milk teas. Wednesday specials on their chicken leg lunch box is a good deal! Squaring up with a plethora of competitors in South Bay, Orange Square has hit the scene with their carefully crafted lunch boxes serving up every food group you'll need to eat healthy, stay full, and not break the bank. Although known by many for takeout, this shop does have seating for diners but for us, this visit was strictly on the go. The Wednesday lunch deal definitely piqued our interest and was the primary reason why Orange Square came up as an option. Their bento boxes are complete with protein, veggies, rice, and some tasty condiments. The chicken leg deal was certainly a fair shake as it came with two hearty chicken legs alongside the typical offerings. We also ordered the beef brisket/tendon box and in celebration for Mother's Day, they also offered a special that gave us a free kids meals for any entree we purchased at full price. We got the teriyaki chicken kids bowl and it was a hefty meal for our little ones. The flavor for all the dishes were great and portions were decent. The beef brisket definitely seemed light compared to the chicken legs but the pieces were tender and stewed with a good mix of vegetables. The meal itself was still very filling. We also ordered a couple drinks, a tiger Thai/milk tea and a lychee snow. The Thai milk tea combo was tasty and they allowed you to customize sugar and ice, so naturally, I went with no sugar and no ice. I was able to taste the tea flavor and appreciated the fact that condensed milk was not required for this Thai tea variation. The lychee snow was not my cup of tea, literally and figuratively. The staff were extremely helpful - we had originally received the wrong bag of orders and upon discovery, they fixed it up and gave us an extra drink for the trouble. Great first impression for me! Overall, Orange Square is a no frills kind of place that will feed you with some solid meals at a respectable value. You'll get some classic tastes typically requiring hours of preparation and cooking like their pork belly and beef brisket - the tenderness of their meats are perfect. I also like that the food comes in microwaveable containers partitioned for each food type, making it super convenient to reheat and enjoyable without mixing flavors and keeping it all presentable. If you're in the area, consider placing your order online before you pick up. With Orange Square around, "Orange you glad that you don't have to cook?"

Everything is thoughtfully and nicely packaged. I really enjoyed the beef brisket with rice. The pork cutlet was ok. The popcorn chicken was bountiful and BOGO. Milk tea was good serving size and price.

Homestyle Taiwanese comfort food. It reminds me of Mom's cooking. We got B08 - Braised Chopped Pork Rice Bowl (Lu Rou Fan). The minced pork belly is braised in a savory sauce and melts in your mouth. It has a rich flavor and the yummy juices soak into the bed of rice underneath. It also includes some sides - half braised egg, steamed broccoli and carrots. After easy ordering online, the food was ready when we arrived for pickup. They have a clean and bright environment inside. Great portion size and filling. Simple and satisfying meal. Would like to try their other comfort foods and bento boxes next time!

We decided to come to Orange Square here on a Wednesday. We got their grilled chicken leg square bento special after receiving an email promotion sometime ago about it. $9.99 for the grilled chicken leg square bento box. Not bad right? So here we are, inside. The décor is fairly basic. I don't think they were made in a way to signify appeal but more for their utility purpose. It's pretty plain but the point here is clearly portrayed to be the food and nothing else. You order from the kiosk or in person, everything is pretty straight forward. Someone will bring you the food in a to go bento format and it includes the to go type utensils or chopsticks. You can choose to eat it here or take it to go. We decided to eat here. This spot got really crowded after we sat down, I mean I can't blame them. $9.99 is a steal compared to other fast food places these days. Maybe I'm a dinosaur but I sometimes think of the old days where this would have costed less. The grilled chicken leg square bento was pretty delicious itself, you can tell that it was pre-marinated and they have the sauce down. The flavoring is more or less a combination of soy sauce, sugar, and bbq sauce? It has a little hint of sesame on top of it which makes it a great chicken for most people. The side dishes are cabbage, broccoli, canned corn, and a meatball. Nothing crazy, but it tasted pretty decent for the mix. Grilled Chicken Leg Square - 4 out of 5 from me. I saw a dude literally carrying a large brown box filled with to-go boxes. If I have to guess, at least 20 bentos in there? It's a steal if you ask me, would I come back? Well, if I feel like chicken, you betcha!

Ordered online for pickup and everything was seamless. The food was ready by the time I showed up and was still warm when I got home. Onto the food: - The fried chicken gpie tasted good but was a bit dry. I liked that they put the chili powder on the side if you request spicy. - The roasted beef was decent - the meat was tender and flavor was enjoyable, but not something I'd crave for. Very nice takeout packaging though! - I actually really enjoyed their chicken leg rice box. The chicken was a bit salty by itself but went perfect with the rice. I didn't find out about the $10 Wed promo until I got to the store, will have to come back for the deal one of these days. - side dishes: this was something I thought they could improve on. They weren't bad, but most Taiwanese bento places I've been to have tastier side dishes. The restaurant was clean and had some seating space. Parking wasn't hard when I went, but the lot didn't seem that big.

The family decided do dine in option. Order was still by kiosk. The options in meals or bento boxes weren't really clear what was required and what was optional. There are tables and a high top communal table inside. It looked clean. There were no napkins anywhere on the tables or by the pick up counter. We had to ask for some but the staff were happy to go get for us. The food came out fast after we ordered. Although we ordered for dine in, our entire meal was still boxed and bagged for take out. The golden taro balls were really good. The runny yolk inside was slightly sweet and the taro was fried well. The beef bowl came part of a meal special and it was pretty good. Had a lot of fat floating in the braise. The fried chicken cutlet and fried tofu were really good. All the fried dishes came out super crispy and nicely flavored with the five spices or a good sauce to pair. Dining in didn't make the food better than take out. Food was good both ways.

Yeah just fyi guys, the rating of this restaurant may be inflated because they're running a deal for a free boba milk tea if you rate them 5 stars. I cannot be bought out so I'll leave an honest review. Came for their Wednesday special where you get a grilled chicken leg bento for $10. It was just ok. The chicken itself was pretty dry, and the side dishes were underwhelming. My favorite one was the wood ear mushrooms with dressing. Also disappointed that the rice was plain with no sauce. The portion size was decent, but I've seen better. Shoutout to Bento Express in Santa Clara. Looking back, this place has solid deals, such as the aforementioned free boba for 5 star review. I might be back to try their happy hour $10 popcorn chicken and boba milk tea combo. Nevertheless, from this experience alone, I can only say the place is just alright. Enough talk.

Ordered togo online and it did take a bit to come out, though they were pretty busy and the staff were working hard. The popcorn basil chicken was really good! This was my second time I have had this and I did not like the first time as much, but this time it was great! The spicy powder comes on the side so you can put in as much as you need.

I had ordered once via DoorDash but never gone in store myself until recently. We had a family friend gathering at the house and opted to order a couple of boxes and snacks from here. It was easy enough pre-ordering as soon as we knew what we wanted. When we arrived at 11:45 on Sunday everything was ready to go. The boxes are labeled and makes for easy distribution. Everyone enjoyed the boxes. I had opted for a bowl and drink combo but felt like the bowl could have used a little more dishes and less rice, but it was still very tasty. We really liked the fried mushrooms so fast forward a few weeks to this past weekend when it was time for another family takeout lunch and we opted for OS again. That was perfect timing so I could get the anniversary deal of grill chicken leg box, appetizer and a drink to get the cup that allows for unlimited refills this summer. I was a little confused where my drink was that I ordered when I was picking up but thought maybe I was supposed to open my cup and ask them to fill it. As I was bringing the food to my car, one of the employees waved me down to give my drink. I really appreciated that and look forward to coming by a few times this summer to get my refill and some more fried mushrooms!

I've passed by the Orange Square location in Santa Clara a bunch of times (while going to Stan's Donuts! LOL). So, I was pleasantly surprised to see one in Milpitas. They are a Tawainese snacks, bento, and Tea place. It's a clean, modern shop. Order via kiosk and/or cashier. The service is nice and friendly. They offer small tables mostly with one long table. Though, the smaller ones can be put together to form a long table if they are all available. Basil S&P Popcorn Chicken (4/5). This had bite sized pieces which was flavorful from the s&p and deep fried crunchy coating. Classic Assam Milk Tea (4/5) - smooth and creamy. I added pudding to it. Boba Milk Tea - I got this for a friend, so i can't comment on the boba. Support your local business.

Was browsing for healthier options and discovered this place so I went? I randomly tried getting the salmon square box just to taste. After consuming, I thought it was....okay? The price for it alone was 22 dollars which was a little shocking. Taste wise it's fine but nothing to write home for. The vegetables were a bit too oily for my liking? With this, my other issue lies with the menu. On the physical menu or mobile ordering kiosk, there was a lack of details? Some of the sides in the main items or squares are lacking details. So I ended up not knowing what I was eating before just looking it up way later?

Ordered to go - this review will mostly be about the food! I decided to order the Braised Chicken Square for lunch on a whim, and I am pleasantly surprised by the food. The chicken leg was super flavorful and juicy, and was very tender. I hardly needed to use a knife! However, the sides that came with the bento weren't my favorite, and felt a little thrown together. The cauliflower with edamame and luncheon meat especially were a little under seasoned and didn't really fit with the dish. The tofu and cucumber salad were great, though I wish there was an option for spice. These sides were different from what I saw in the in the online menu, so be warned if you're expecting specific sides, as you don't get to choose. Overall though, and for the price especially, this was a great lunch bento spot!

Every Wednesday is Orange Day, where the Grilled Chicken Leg Square is only $9.99! I've gotten it twice and the chicken is always so well seasoned and tender. The veggies and side dishes vary everyday so I like to call ahead to see what's on the menu for that day :) The veggies and side dishes taste very fresh and clean. Still tasty and seasoned, but not drenched in oil. During prime lunch and dinner times, the wait can get pretty long, but the staff were really nice, apologetic, and calm. Inside is modern, clean, and casual. There are about 10 small tables for seating. Highly recommend! They have other options besides the grilled chicken leg that I'll have to try one day :) read more

Solidly 3.5 star place. We stopped in and ordered two bentos to go. Chicken Leg - small portion; flavor was good. Fried chicken steak - huge portions, great crispy crust and flavoring. This is a winner. The side dishes were so so; a bunch of vegetarian items; sauteed cabbage with ham (not a huge fan of mushy ham chunks), broccoli, raw daikon slices (weird since it wasn't pickled), and this strange yellow pickled vegetable. Presentation was great; if the sides were a bit more flavorful or wasn't just plain vegetables or raw daikon I think I might bump it up to a solid 4 stars. The fried chicken steak one was a solid 4 star. read more

So far I've only had their drinks. On that front, I'd call this place a mixed bag. I've ordered their Black / Oolong Milk Tea a couple times and they tasted perfectly fine -- pretty standard, but properly made and basically good. But then I tried their Thai Tea, which tastes exactly like the stuff you'd find at Asian supermarkets -- generic, and overly sweetened to the point of being gross. This seemed odd, given that I specified the lowest sugar on the ordering kiosk, but it turns out the question is fake -- the drink really is just cheap pre-mixed formula (and probably powdered), so they can't adjust anything; they just dishonestly imply they can. Taiwanese appetizers, bentos, and milk tea! I've tried many of their milk teas and they are good though nothing special. I love their beef & bean curd mix cold appetizer. It also has seaweed, tofu, mushrooms, cabbage, and half an egg in it. The taste is marinated fully into each ingredient and it's salty while refreshing to eat. I also like their fried tofu, but I especially like the dipping sauce that comes with it. For bentos, I've tried the pork belly bento, pork chop bento, salmon bento (not in photos), and chicken leg bento (also not in my photos). Overall I enjoyed the salmon one the most. Either way, Orange Square is on my go-to list of Taiwanese bentos in the bay, besides O2 Valley and Chopstix. read more

We went to this restaurant around 7:10pm on a weeknight, and we were the only ones there. Right after we ordered and sat down, they started putting chairs on tables, mopping the floor, and taking out the trash from the kitchen while we were still eating, even though the sign on the door said they closed at 8:00pm. They were basically rushing us out. Recommendation to the owner: if you don't want to work the last hour of your operations, don't take new orders two hours before closing!! We ended up finishing our food in the car. Not cool! Also, I ordered a watermelon drink, but the chunks were so big you couldn't drink it with a straw. read more

This Orange Square location is in a small strip plaza with a shared parking lot. I have been to their other location in Santa Clara and it was decent. It is a bit more bright, clean, and modern on the interior compared to their other location. I ordered ahead of time, so my boba and food was ready by the time I arrived. Anyway, I wanted to try out their new location to get their grilled chicken and green milk tea here - out of pure coincidence, I went on a Wednesday when they have a special for their 'Orange Day' and I was able get their Grilled Chicken Leg Square (Bento) for $9.99, which is a few dollars cheaper than it usually is. I also ordered their Boba Jasmine Green Milk Tea as well. It was raining hard the day I came, so I decided to check my order after snapping a few photos before leaving, which I was glad I did because I took one sip of my boba and knew they made the wrong drink, since it was bitter and strong. Even though the label on the cup was correct to what I ordered, which was a jasmine milk tea, what I got was some sort of black milk tea instead. The service was not the best from the employees behind the counter, but I believe it was the owner or manager who was cleaning/sweeping the lobby - she apologized and asked one of the employees to remake my drink. I am just glad I tried my drink before leaving the shop because it was raining very badly that night and I would not had been able to come back, if I left before trying my drink. The jasmine milk tea did not taste the best, as it tasted a bit watered down - it was also not as creamy as I would had liked it, but it was on the more bitter side. The chicken bento box was such a disappointment - I felt like it was falsely advertised, it had the grilled chicken leg and rice, but it came with a bunch of random side dishes that looked like they just had available, not like any of their ads/photos, which I was looking forward to and drove 30 minutes out just for this. Also, the box/tray was not that strong, as the juices from the chicken leg and probably condensation was going through the paper box, which made a mess. I only got the take out. Was excited about having a sister store in Milpitas so we don't have to travel farther to eat at this place. I actually really enjoyed the food here but it was all quite heavy. My husband wasn't a huge fan of the pork bento because it was very thinly sliced and breaded. I really liked the flavor - it was marinated and then deep fried. I got the beef stew and beef tendon bento which was pretty good - but due to the tendon being very fatty again the whole meal was quite heavy. Finally shout out to the yam fries with the plum powder - quite tasty! read more

My cowoker had picked up the spicy chicken cutlet bento box from Orange Square for me last week and it was delicious! The spicy chicken was juicy, flavor and crunchy. I didn't care much for the sides besides the meatball, that was very tasty meatball. Portion was generous, I only ate half of it and was stuffed. Majorly slow wait if you order anything other than their standard B1 square - we waited over 1 hour for squares that weren't B1, while everyone else got theirs. Spoiler alert: the food is not worth even a 30 minute wait. It sounds like they prioritize what's easy, and not by first orders in, based on ours and others' experiences (employee telling us other dishes take longer to prep and therefore in queue after all the other easy orders) during opening week. I was short on time so cooking from scratch was not an option. I remember bookmarking this place so I decided to give it a try. I placed my order through the self service kiosk machine and it was quite simple. I ordered 2 braised chopped pork rice bowls, golden egg yolk taro balls, coffee milk tea w/boba (half sugar) and the classic milk tea w/boba (half sugar). In terms of flavor, it was just ok. The pork had a light soy sauce flavor to it but it lacked umami flavor. The broccoli and carrot that came with the rice was bland. No comment on the egg since I gave mine to my daughter. The fried taro ball was good but after a few bites, it started to become heavy and greasy. As for the drinks, my coffee milk tea lacked coffee flavor.
