We're visiting from So CA and just stumbled upon this place as we were looking for something simple as it was late on a weeknight. What a find! The warm inviting atmosphere only hinted at the upcoming dining experience we were about to enjoy. It is rare that every item ordered from the cocktails to the Caesar salad to the sausage sandwich and toasted ravioli all were delicious and exceeded our expectations. Fresh quality ingredients that just sang with flavor even in the sides, homemade chip, slaw and probably the most amazing hot buttery garlic bread we've ever had. We intended this as a to go snack for later and ended up eating the entire order for dessert! Our server, Spencer was a delight and capped off a terrific dining experience. The environment is very negative, and stressful. Not the "happy go-lucky" vibe they go for, the high chairs are not even cleaned properly sometimes. The workers always try to be positive. But it is very crowded, and hard to accommodate guests when things are so cramped. You can see the servers and to-go people are constantly stressed, and it kind of ruins the quality "family" feel Oreganos goes for. Do better, Oreganos. It's a good pizza place overall. Being from Chicago, we were attracted to the claims of this place being Chicago pizza. It's got a charming Italian vibe to it. Our waiter was this kinda quirky dude. I think he was trying to be funny. Overall, a nice guy - just a bit over the top. The cheesy bread was not a great start. Pretty average. We got the apparent "deep dish" Chicago pizza and it was more of just a pan pizza, rather than deep dish. I think that's where the expectations were just kind of missed. A friend of mine just moved to Mesa. We stopped here on recommendation from another friend that visits the Mesa area regularly. We are SO HAPPY we made the stop! We were so hungry after a long day of travel. We came in about 8pm. It was quiet, but they had us wait. No big deal. They only had two servers working it seemed, which was weird to me for a Friday night. We were seated after about 10 minutes, and the server who was supposed to be off for the night ended up waiting on us. She was so funny, quick, and kind to serve us. I will say that I had the best salad of my LIFE. The Pablo Salad will forever leave a special place in my heart. Sooooo delicious and I couldn't even finish it. The cheesy garlic bread was also delish. We're going back next weekend for our anniversary, and I'm definitely bringing my hubby this time! Looking forward to another great meal here soon. read more

Great location, close to Old Town Scottsdale. The atmosphere of the restaurant is a cute theme that brings you back in time. They have old TVs playing classic movies and a ton of decor to look at. I would recommend always having a reservation. We came at 1pm on a Sunday and there was a wait to be seated and a longer wait for food. Our server was very friendly and apologetic about the delays. It was obvious he was juggling a lot of tables. It took about 20 minutes for salads to be delivered to the table and over 40 minutes for our pizza to come. The pizza was ok, nothing to write home about. Crust is superrrr thin, almost like a tortilla so it tasted a bit burnt. Pizza flavor was fine but I probably won't get it again. Some pizza, some pasta, some wings, some Chinese fortune cookies and they call it Oregano's. That would be a one sentence summary of this establishment. As the rule goes if you try to do too many things you end up not being good at single one and that is certainly the case with Oregano's. Well situated just south of old town Scottsdale, it is fairly large building on the main drag with good outdoor seating area. Interior is bright and funky looking reminiscent of some other national chains with Italian theme not to mention any names. I could not figure out why they keep Chinese fortune cookies in an Italian eatery? Staff didn't know and neither did the manager! Dining experience was about 1 star but as management recognized their shortcomings they comped portion of our meal and we ended up with 2 stars. Short summary: Wings were decent about 3 stars. Calamari were the best dish here about 4 stars. We ordered a deep dish pizza with lots of meats and got veggie pizza. We decided to give it a try but after the first bite we realized pizza is awful. Not because this is not what we ordered but because dough/toppings were just coming off. Clearly there was no adhesion between toppings and dough and after few bites the whole party decided this is not eatable. Replacement pizza that we ordered arrived and yet AGAIN it was not what we ordered. Aside from that it was just 2 stars. Overall pizza experience 1 star not to mention time wasted waiting on order change..... All in all, pretty disappointing experience! read more

We really like this restaurant and after my visit to the audiologist, we stopped here for an early dinner. The table was clean but still wet so we had them wipe it dry. We had their Caesar Salad which is now much smaller than before but is still enough for two. Their thin crust Clark Street Meat pizza is amazing as to how thin it is and yet you can still pick it up like a regular pizza. Maybe it's because the pizza is cut into squares. Slippery little thing...went flying right out of my fingers (think the screen in pretty woman with Julia Roberts) and hit a lady in the back of the head. I remember talking with Mark in 93 when he opened the original. He had passion and energy. He'd run from the small restaurant to the storage across the patio. It was a scene. Everything was amazing. The glasses were big, the wait was long, the parking was small. It was perfection. Many years of great meals...then....a little less every visit. We'll never go back again. I went to Oregano's in Scottsdale this evening ordered a pizza. Threw it out after one slice. The meat tasted like it had been dried out in the desert, and there was hardly any pizza sauce to add any flavor. It was supposed to be a Chicago pizza, but it was definitely not deep dish. After reading some other reviews this evening, I discovered that the business was sold two years ago to a private equity firm and it has been going downhill ever since. I've been coming to Scottsdale for the past 10 years for spring training. i always had a good experience at Oregano's, but selling out to a private equity firm explains why my visit last year during spring training was a disappointing dining experience as well. I just hadn't connected the dots at that time. Sorry to say, I will never go back again. There are too many other good restaurants in Scottsdale, so I won't waste my money at Oregano's. read more

Actually found this place on Yelp and decided to make a to go order of a small deep dish pizza and an order of chicken wings (10 wings and fresh fried potato chips) totaling $40.03 and about 45 mins to make. Toppings on the pizza are fresh, cheese is gooey and tomato definitely tastes of it's namesake, Oregano's. Only one downside to the deep dish was crust was a bit dry and not crispy as others I've had in Chicago. Chicken wings were big, not those scrawny little ones that are sometimes given with an order, plus a tangy, sweet bbq sauce. Fresh potato chips are a addition to the order. All in all good place to grab some pizza and if I'm back in town maybe I'll try some of the other Italian dishes. read more

Came to AZ for spring training and we were trying to hit a game at Sloan Park to no avail due to parking so we saw this on the way and decided to try it. We were both starving! There was outside seating and the decor inside is a quirky mix of antiques and novelty items. It is very reminiscent of Bucco Di Peppo. We were seated right away and our very lovely waitress Kathy helped us deciding and explained the dishes. The portions are very large for a reasonable price. We wanted to try different things so she suggested getting the lunch portion. Wait time was fairly quick. We first tried the wings and they were good that came with homemade chips. I Liked the dry rub best. Hubs got a slice of pizza which was two very large slices. I liked the super thin crust. He also ordered the baked ziti that came in a bread bowl. Ziti was good but the bread bowl was really not edible because it is seriously hard as a rock. My pasta was pretty tasty and filling as well. I appreciated the thinly sliced chicken breast so I didn't have to cut it. They also come around with this huge trough of cheese to sprinkle on. Loved that. It was good food with a great value. We spent about $50 and we could have easily gotten by on less but our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. Then to top if off was the excellent service we received from Kathy! Entree was bollo pasta with meat sauce (more chunky tomato paste) with an Italian sausage link. The Italian sausage did have a kick to it, but was hot and tasty! Sampled the Alfredo Dark- a creative twist on chicken Alfredo! Made with poblano peppers and spiral noodles this was a more upgraded fettuccine Alfredo.
