Food is good, although every time i order the futu maki roll, i always request it without the crab because I'm vegetarian, and i always have to send it back because they forget to take out the crab. By the time the waiter returns with the remade version, my boyfriend has already finished his food and i am left to eat alone. It takes about 8-10 mins to get my food remade sometimes. Orient Express is a fun casual Asian restaurant in Vinings. My husband and I visit a few times a month when I am craving one of their sushi rolls. The waiters/waitresses know us by name. The service is excellent, we usually have multiple people help serve our table. Good comes out hot and quickly upon ordering. The restaurant recently underwent a renovation, and I believe it has significantly improved the ambiance. We usually sit in the Chinese section near the sushi bar. It's quiet, intimate and perfect for date night. My favorite rolls are the Godzilla, Mega, & Vegas. The ginger salad is hearty and delicious. My husband swoons over the Hunan chicken, which comes with a large bowl of white rice. One star off for the poor alcohol selection. The wine list is weak, but the corkage fee keeps me from bringing in my own favorite bottle. Some tasty signature cocktails and better wine list would set this place apart. However, it's not enough to keep me away for my bi monthly visits. Keep it up orient express! read more

BEST SUSHI EVER!! this is always my go to spot for sushi its always so fresh and they don't take forever to bring it out. Which is always a plus because i cant wait to have it always such a treat! I also love taking my family there for hibachi they are great with my kids or if im haning out with friends. It's a little pricey, but totally worth it! Some of the best sushi, fried rice and dumplings I've ever had. I order delivery all the time. Plus it's plenty of food so I always have leftovers. It has spicy salmon on the inside, and thick pieces of salmon & avocado on the outside. You get the best quality of fish, and they do not skimp on the amount in each roll either. I came here with my wife a few times, and sat on both the Japanese side (modern chic interior) and also the Chinese side (turn of the century train seat feel). The food is always good and consistent. I really enjoy their Chinese beef with Chinese vegetables. Great pot stickers too. My husband and I are here from Florida and we wanted some sushi. After reading the reviews, we decided to give this place a try. It was decent but not better than our favorite sushi place. We only ate sushi so I don't know how any of the other food tasted. The eel sauce was not my favorite. I would leave that off if I went back again. I got the bubba gump shrimp roll and it was better than my husbands ( he got the James Bond.) The ambiance of the place was really nice. It was very quiet and elegant, somewhere you would go on a date. I wouldn't take kids here unless I was doing hibachi. The service was really good, the servers were very quick. The over all feel of the place was really nice. I don't know that I would go back, but it was a good experience. read more

I debated with myself about giving it 3 or 4 stars as I really liked some dishes and totally disliked my main dish. I gave it 4 stars in the end as others at my table did like their main dish. I understand Chinese cuisine is largely Americanized but I wish they would keep to at least basic expectations of a dish. For an example I ordered Szechuan Chicken (didn't have the typical meats so I settled for chicken) and expected a flavorful and fiery hot dish. Instead I got a very sweet and zero heat. The protein was also breaded and deep fried. I even double checked with our waiter that I did in fact get the right dish. He pointed and said it was the szechuan chicken. I remember on the menu it did have a few pepper symbols next to the dish as well so it should have been at least spicy. (I even had my youngest try it and she thought it was honey chicken) The appetizers and soups were well made and delicious though. Including the egg roll. The other 2 main dishes ordered was also tasty but not quite what they are used to but they did like the dish. I would go back but probably to the hibachi side. read more

I have been here to Orient Express several times, and each time I am never disappointed. This restaurant is unique in the sense that it offers 3 different dining areas: sushi, hibachi, and Chinese. So you have your choice of several different offerings and dining styles to accommodate that choice. I have only eaten Chinese, which is by far some of the freshest, well-served Chinese I've ever eaten. I can tell this restaurant takes great pride in its customer service. The servers are always very prompt. Complimentary wontons and dipping sauce are provided upon seating, a nice start to what is to follow. Both the lunch and dinner menus offer a wide variety of well-known favorites such as general tso chicken and Mongolian beef. Both of which I would highly recommend. The food is delivered very quickly. This establishment uses fresh ingredients and serves Chinese food that is not greasy, much different from your local carryout. What's best about this place is that this great food and service comes with a very affordable price tag. Pains me to write this because I've been here a few times and never had a complaint. However, the experience last night was one of the worst I've experienced ever at a restaurant and I will NEVER GO BACK HERE. My 2 friends and I sit down at the hibachi table. I order 2 sake bombs. The waitress comes over and puts down a large bottled beer and 2 empty cups and she's holding the chopsticks. She reaches for my HOT SAKE and I ask her what she's doing. She explains making a sake bomb. I say "sake bombs aren't made with hot sake and we're supposed to get a shot of cold sake for this." She says they don't sell cold sake like that and we have to order some. I explain "no. I had one here a while back and I'm not placing a whole new order for cold sake. Please ring it in as a drink/shot like it's supposed to." She grabs a random waiter to explain what she just told me, so I end up going back and forth with him. Same result. I then ask the manager and he tells me the same thing even though he was the one that served my friends and I sake bombs last time I was there. At that point, I give up and tell them to forget it. Now for the INSANE part. The hibachi chef comes out. He goes around verifying everyone's order. My friend Veronica, next to me, is on her phone texting to confirm a work appt for the business she owns. She doesn't realize the chef is talking to her, so I nudge her. He seems to be offended she was on her phone. I attempt to explain she wasn't messing around and it was about work. My apologies. He then proceeds to get a huge attitude and start to say things like "she shouldn't be on her phone." I then say in a FINAL ATTEMPT to get him to chill out that she's a business woman and new at this, so let it go. He says back to us, "she doesn't look like a business woman.' At that point all I see is red and I a livid. We almost got up and left, but instead I walk over to the mgr and ask for a new chef. He says it'll be 45 min wait for a new one. I say 'that's unacceptable bc we've already waited and the chef has been INCREDIBLY RUDE to all of us.' Then out of the corner of my eye I see him already pushing his cart an leaving the table. Thank God. Then another chef comes out who did a great job. The a**hole chef however, stands in the corner by the kitchen door for about 5 minutes with this scummy grin on his face. We tell the manager before we go and his response is, "he's been here the longest. They need to have your full attention before they start cooking bc the grill is already hot." My fiance and I were excited to try this place out after reading so many positive reviews on Yelp and Google. I hate to say, but it is true, we were wildly disappointed. The gentleman who took our order by phone was polite and the delivery was faster than expected which was a plus. We ordered the crab angels, the spring rolls, the general tso's chicken, the beef lo mein, and an order of vegetable fried rice. It was new years day and we were going big! The bill was just about $50 and we tipped the driver $10 - hey, it was new years and it was cold outside! The crab angels were very good, as was the the veggie fried rice. However, the quality of the chicken in the general tso's chicken was not edible. The flavor of the sauce itself was good, but the chicken was either old or excruciatingly low quality. My fiance took a bite, spit it out, I encouraged him to try a few more pieces. You could tell it was definitely all low grade dark meat. He couldn't eat it at all. When I got into my beef lo mein, I felt just the same about the quality of beef, not good. The noodles were overcooked and soggy. Both of our main dishes went straight in the trash. The spring rolls were average. We were glad we could at least eat our appetizers. Definitely not worth the price. Wouldn't order again. read more

This review is for the lunch service. The place was packed! But what was 5 star was the fast service! I can definitely appreciate that when at lunch while at work. We just had lunch on the Chinese food side which was the busier side. When we entered they asked about our preference so I believe the hibachi section is on the opposite end, so I am not sure how busy that was. There is a lunch menu with a good selection of options. Each lunch item comes with either soup or salad, a spring roll and fried rice. The soup option does not include wonton but you can request it for an additional $1 charge. I had the salad which comes with ginger dressing. The salad was a nice sized portion, but I was not a fan of the ginger dressing at all. I would recommend you ask for it on the side to add to taste. The egg roll or spring roll because they are the small rolls is just your basic cabbage roll, nothing special. The fried rice always gets me. I guess I am spoiled because fried rice to me is not brown rice with peas in it. I like eggs and sprouts and peas and carrots with fried yummy rice. But all I got was the brown rice with peas. Boring as usual. For my main dish I had shrimp with vegetables. It comes in brown sauce but I requested it in garlic sauce, because a little garlic ain't never hurt anyone. Excellent portion size and plenty of shrimp and vegetables. I left out pretty happy. The price was a little high for lunch options around 8-10 dollars. But the amount of food was fair for the prices. The sushi was phenomenal, but some of the rolls were a bit small. Overall, the food and service were great, but everything was pretty pricey, above average I'd say for hibachi and sushi. The restaurant is cool, set inside a train car. You can sit in the Chinese section, sushi section, or Hibachi section, each has a different menu, but you can order off any menu from any section so that's cool especially if you have a picky crowd. read more

Love the atmosphere but can do without the excessive antics by the chef. I had the salmon which was prepared perfectly. The portions were more than enough,shareable even. Only issue was the waitress forgot to tell the cook my friend didn't want veggies and he put them on her plate any way. It didn't have to be a big deal but he became argumentative with her. Thankfully the manager on duty had sense enough to make him recook her food. The drinks are pricey;$15 for Remy Martin but you should expect that in "SmyNings". The food is amazing. I think it's the best Chinese in the Metro area. They have sushi and a hibachi room as well. Have not tried the sushi. The entrees are prepared in a more traditional style rather than the typical "ATL knock-off Chinese" available everywhere. The atmosphere is really cool and upbeat. I have been here many times and never been disappointed. That said, today the service was a little off. I asked my server and his assistant multiple times for fried wonton noodles and ice tea, but they never showed up. I finally gave up. In short, sub-par Chinese and Hibachi, but pretty good sushi. I live within a mile of Orient Express and have been many times...but generally not by my decision. The Chinese food is highly Americanized - and by Americanized I mean everything is extra sweet and/or extra salty - If you told me they used heavily salted honey as a base for all of their sauces, I'd believe you. They seem to love to deep fry stuff that I wouldn't expect to be deep fried (e.g. Szechuan pork), but they don't put descriptions on the menu for most items. The Szechuan pork is much more like what I'd expect from Sweet and Sour Pork, and as much as I love fried foods, I was trying to order something moderately healthy (as sweet as their sauces are, that's difficult here). I've had many of their Chinese dishes, and I can't think of one I'd recommend. They're not terrible, there's just no dish that I want to order again. It makes me mourn the loss of Tasty China II, which was an order of magnitude better. The Hibachi is not worth the price. Neither the food nor the "entertainment value" are as good as most other Hibachi restaurants I've been to. The sushi, however, tends to be good. I could probably go 4 stars on just the Sushi. But my disappointments with the Chinese and Hibachi bring it down to 2 stars. Tip1: They almost always say it will be an hour for delivery, but I don't think it's ever taken more than 20 minutes. Tip2: You can ignore their notation of "hot/spicy" dishes on the menu. I've never noticed the slightest hint of heat from anything here (e.g. like their Szechuan sauce, Firecracker beef is sweet, not spicy). read more

There isn't really a hostess stand and you can go either left or right so we just kind of walked around, saw the hibachi area and started looking around. Someone spotted us very quickly and sat us (this may be on purpose and if it works then who cares!) but other than that it was very delicious. The ambiance is nice. The food was disgusting. Both sushi rolls tasted rancid; and my shrimp fried rice had no flavor or heat to it. The customer service was subpar. Literally, 4 tables of Customers there, but my wait time was greater than 10 min. due to staff eating at a table. Furthermore, we kept having to summon a waitress when we needed anything because they kept congregating near the kitchen door to talk.
