This place has been open for three weeks, as we were told, and we were asked for our patience as they work out some kinks. The waiting time is quite long, but considering it's new, I'm sure many people are eager to try it out. The service was good overall, though there were delays with some items, which I believe were due to a lack of communication. For instance, about three other tables were seated after us, yet they received the complimentary bean dip before we did. When you walk in, there are tables placed immediately in the entrance. In my opinion, removing at least 2-3 of these tables would be ideal, as the space is very cramped. It's hard to walk by without getting uncomfortably close to diners who are already eating. We ordered several items to try a variety of dishes. Overall, the food was good, but there wasn't a single item that stood out as exceptionally delicious or something that would bring me back. I also found the food to be pricey, and I believe you're paying more for the experience, as the restaurant itself is stunningly beautiful. If you're looking for an upscale dining experience, this might be the place for you. I would suggest that the tacos be sold individually. Currently, there are three options for tacos, but you can only order them in sets of four or five, all with the same protein. The burger meat was good and had a unique preparation, as it included bacon within the patty. If I had to highlight a few standout items, I'd say the fries, the bean dip, and the habanero salsa were the most memorable. The music was not too loud, and they had a nice variety in their selection. It was a very enjoyable choice overall. This was just my experience. The food and service were okay, keeping in mind that this is a new restaurant still finding its rhythm. read more

This was our third time dining at Origen. The food is consistently good, and the cocktails are excellent -- I especially love the December 2nd. Unfortunately, tonight's experience was severely impacted by the worst service I've ever received. I have 14 years of experience in the restaurant industry, and I've never encountered a server so inattentive and disengaged. I wish I could name him directly, but he was around so infrequently that I couldn't even catch his name -- though I believe it started with a "D." We were seated diagonally from the bull head painting, for reference. We spent nearly $400 as a table and still had to stack our own dishes and move empty cocktail glasses to the end of the table just to make space. Our server passed by multiple times and did not pre-bus, even after our entrées arrived. One of our guests attempted to reorder a beer, and instead of checking the POS system he was holding or recalling the previous order, we had to list off the beers ourselves so he could figure it out. We then waited 15-20 minutes for the check, sitting with empty glasses, dirty plates, and barely any water. I finally had to flag down another server to ask for it. That server was incredibly kind -- he cleared most of our table and went to find our server. I watched and heard him speak to our server twice over the next several minutes -- during which our server visited another table inside the wine cellar room three separate times -- yet he still never came back to us. When he finally did, it was without the check. We handed him our cards, and he returned with the receipts but never finished clearing the table. This level of service was completely unacceptable, especially at this price point and from a restaurant we previously loved. I sincerely hope management sees this and addresses it. The food and drinks deserve better representation from the front-of-house staff. read more

I was really looking forward to eating here. My husband reserved a table two weeks ahead of my birthday and when they asked him the occasion he told them it was my Birthday. We arrived a little early and waited awhile and then they sat us at a table by the restrooms! We got to watch people come and go past our table in the back room of the restaurant. I wanted to order their fish (I can't remember what it was called) but when I looked at the menu it wasn't on there and the waitress said it was no longer being served. Food was just okay. Hubs and I had a reservation on Sunday at 6:30pm and were seated right away. Our server, Emily, was great and very attentive. The food and drinks were slightly on the higher end but overall delicious. The ambiance was perfect for date night. It has a rustic yet upscale vibe. We were able to talk and not shout over one another even with the music playing. There are both indoor and outdoor seating areas. Upon seating, we were given 3 different salsas, refried beans dip, and chips to share. I ordered the pork belly tacos (~$24) and there were 4 small tacos that came with the order. In my opinion, this dish was just too rich for me. So I only finished 2 and took the rest to go. My husband ordered their burger and fries. He absolutely loved his burger and said it was delicious. Positives: atmosphere is excellent, place has a great vibe. Negatives: we had skirt steak and filet mignon. Both were tough, overcooked and just bland. Asked for medium came out well. He did offer to remake them but at that point we were hungry and didn't want to wait another 45 minutes from our initial order as we had an event we needed to get to. The filet came out cut into chunks which I had never seen before. Other negative was the server did not bring out our side orders with the meal. Where do I start?!?! I was walking past the restaurant when an amazing waitress named, Whitney S., gave me such an inviting smile and said hi! At that point I knew that I'd made the right choice to dine here. The hostess, coincidentally sat us in Whitney's section. Whitney welcomed is with that gracious smile, and introduced us to the menu. When I ordered a drink that unbeknownst to me came with regular ice cubes. Whitney sensed my disappointment and went waaaay out of her way to get a large single ice cube for my drink. It came with mashed potatoes which were not great. No salad was included. You could not substitute the mash potatoes so we got an order of truffle fries which were okay. This place is trying to be a high end restaurant and it does not deliver. The prices were way too high for what we got. 2 filets plus truffle fries, a queso appetizer and 3 drinks for $276. Came here mid-week to celebrate our 20th anniversary, expecting a great experience...especially since it's the kind of place where they place the napkin on your lap. Came to try Origen for brunch as part of an event. I tried a couple drinks: pomegranate and passionfruit, both with mescal and nice for a brunch drink. Chilaquiles verde with steak and eggs were very tasty but could IMO would have liked a bit more salsa. Eggs were cooked perfectly and steak was juicy and tender. The standout for me was the pancake with compote, the perfect amount of sweet and tart. The cakes were fluffy and a great texture pairing with the compote. Staff were friendly and attentive, although they did mix up a couple details of the orders. They happily corrected, no big deal. I would love to come back to try the dinner menu. I went to Origen in Gilbert on a Thursday night. It wasn't overly busy, but there were about ten other tables filled, which gave the restaurant a nice, lively energy without feeling crowded. The space itself is beautiful and the ambience was spot on for a date night, relaxed yet upscale. Our server was fantastic, knowledgeable, patient, and helpful as we took our time deciding what to order. On their recommendation, we started with the Tuna Tiradito. While the portion looked small at first, it was actually perfect for sharing and absolutely delicious. For our main dishes, we ordered the Quesabirria and the Skirt Steak Lorenza, both of which were flavorful and cooked perfectly. The portions again seemed modest, but they were generous with the meat, and we even had leftovers. Overall, it was a great experience from start to finish. Ordered cocktails , a glass of wine and 2 carajillos (these took a solid 15-20 minutes to make) the restaurant wasn't very busy and it was only 5:15 pm.... then we ordered the ceviche , apparently this is not on the menu anymore (i was given an old menu) then we decided on the tuna, this was also no longer available, again... it was only 5:15pm. We settled on guac. It was good, lacked some flavor . Complementary bean dip was good , and the salsa were also tasty. Moving on to dinner, husband got the ribeye , which was cooked perfect, but also fell short on seasoning. I got the Barbacoa and it was just ok.... Very very fatty , I maybe finished 1/3 of it .. orders a second round of drinks . Another 15 -20 min.... Pros - beautiful restaurant and atmosphere , good drinks. And server was lovely. Cons- everything took too long, the few things we wanted weren't available and the few things we got were just meh.... Would not recommend for brunch. Talk about false advertising. We ordered 4 different things and none of them looked like what they had presented on their own website except for maybe the quesabirria. I've attached a photo of their pancakes presented on their own website vs what I got. Underwhelming. Pancakes tasted like they use a mix and the jam tasted super artificial and had no bacon. The Barbacoa Regia on their website presents with different sauces and tortillas. Was not the case. The Northern Style Tostada "Garnished with golden potato strings" was actually thick cut fries on the side. Everything was very much so over promised underdelivered. Wow. First the ambiance, the ten year old nerdy geek in me says if he had a million dollars this would be what the inside of my treehouse would look like. The mature adult in me thought if Mexico had a mountain ski chalet this is what it would look like. We started at the bar with cocktails. The wife had the hibiscus mezcalita and she raved about it. I got the Phoenix and even though I'm not a tequila guy this was a refreshing summer drink. We started with the rustic guacamole and it was fresh, creamy and smooth. A perfect appetizer. The wife got the ribeye and I went with the short rib steak. Both were cooked perfectly. It was very tender and seasoned just right. I'm a sucker for a good chimichurri and there's was outstanding. The steaks also came with three sauces, a salsa Verde, a habanero sauce and a pineapple salsa. All three were outstanding. The habanero sauce had a heat that was just right. Gave me a nice burn but could still taste the other ingredients in the sauce along with the steak. The pineapple salsa was a nice taste of sweet (without being too sweet) and savory and the salsa Verde was just perfect. Can't wait to go back and try some of the other dishes. read more

This is the second time we have been here and I have to say it's one of the best steaks I have had in AZ. The service is amazing especially our server Erin. It's artistic but not too fancy where you feel out of place dressing casual and doesn't feel like a chain or like they are cramming in too many people. It was flavorless and tasted weird. The enchiladas are the worst I've ever had, I would recommend the frozen enchiladas from Costco. The salmon was ok as well but the seasonal vegetables were really bad, they were pickled and tasted very fishy. I would recommend grilled asparagus and carrots. Why eggplant and zucchini that are over cooked and slimey and fishy stinky. Then the guacamole appetizer was the worst, it did not have any flavor, I literally had to add salt and lemon to add some type of spice. The only food items we recommend are the steak fries and the tacos. Then when the bill came, they had the audacity to charge a credit card surcharge??? I used to sell merchant services and I know it's illegal to impose the merchant services processing fee on customers. That is a fee you have to pay as a business to offer and accept credit card payments at your business. I'm surprised no one has complaint to visa and master card about that. If you are going to charge a credit card surcharge it needs to be disclosed at your business entrance, that is the law. Don't secretly add it to the bill, that's not cool. That voids your pci compliance and a breach of many merchant services agreements. For the food being overpriced the premium price does not match the quality. Table 86 check 46 read more

We finally had an opportunity to return. We arrived before our friends. My husband loves gin drinks and ordered the one with Empress. Nope, the bartender said they were out of it. Ummm... it's a featured drink and a common gin. Go to Frys next door and get some! We both ordered the December 2 cocktail but neither of us liked it. The bartender was not engaging and didn't offer any info about the menu. We had to stand up and wave her down to pay. She was not friendly nor helpful. Then we went to our table. Ordered a bottle of Flowers Pinot Noir, one of our favorites. Guess what? They were out of it. We got the Dao Cab instead. More on that later. We had a hard time with the menu. We weren't sure what the variations were. The server, Sebastian just said they were all great. He told us portions were large so not to order any sides. That is not true at all. We ordered the queso fondido app. It came with 4 street taco sized tortillas. They were wet with grease and soggy, we asked for more as there were 4 of us and they were so small. We had more cheese despite loading up the 4 tortillas. There was a $2 charge. The queso was thick and tough. We had to use the steak knife to cut it. Not kidding. We (each couple) ordered the salad to split. They would not split plate it. It was very good and fairly good size. It was probably the best thing we had. Our friends ordered the burger and filet - both medium. I wish I had taken a picture. The burger was RAW in the middle. My friend ate 2 bites and was horrified at the raw meat. Her husband's steak was very well done. She had to ask 3x for ketchup for the fries (not exaggerating) . When the server finally returned with ketchup she showed him her burger. Said she couldn't eat that. He took it away but never offered an option like a different meal or a new burger. It was deleted, but she never ate!! My husband and i both had the filet. His was way over done. Mine was ok. Our bottle of wine... we each had a glass...went to pour a 2nd from The bottle.... There was a LIVE FLY floating around in my glass! We showed the server. He got the fly in a napkin. But the remaining $95 bottle of wine we couldn't drink. We didn't have new glasses and I felt like being sick...it was so disgusting. We did order dessert ---the "lava cake" I'm not kidding -- it was MAYBE 4 bites. It was the tiniest thing I've ever seen. Our bill was $275+ per couple. We will not be back. So disappointing . The food and service did not match that price point. This place will not survive unless there is major overhaul . No manager came to see us. Other than removing the burger off the bill, nothing was done about all the other issues. LIKE A LIVE FLY FLAPPING ABOUT IN MY WINE ! I hate leaving bad reviews, but this was too much $$ not to. The only real positive was the live music. But the food and service were too disappointing to return to enjoy that. read more
