I bought of pair of jeans the other day even though they were a little long. I tend to have to buy jeans a little long since I'm on the shorter petite side. I mentioned I'd have to have the pants hemmed to the sales rep just as conversation and she recommended I go to Original Hems. Apparently this sales rep tells a lot of her customers to go to Original Hems for hemming jeans because they're so fast and cheap. I'm the type of person who has been burned a lot of times by the "faster, cheaper" option so I was immediately skeptical. I came on yelp and read reviews just to see what others had to say and it seemed good enough to check out. I stopped by there today and dropped off 2 pairs of pants. One pair of jeans, and one pair of casual dress pants. The interior is shockingly modern and upscale looking, not the style I expected for a place with such cheap prices. I admit, I was impressed as soon as I stepped in the door, but it went down hill from there. The two men tending the 2 front desks seemed really rushed and in a hurry even though there was only me and one other person there. Once I was seen to, my bill was $10 and I only had to wait for 15 minutes which I can't complain about. I waited in the lobby for my items to be finished and noticed how dirty the place actually looked. For an operation that has such a modern and clean style, I feel like it shouldn't be covered in a thick layer of dust and other bits of paper trash. When I got my items back, the hem job looked fine enough so I left. Once I got back to my car, I took another look and upon further inspection, the hem job looked cheaply done.....just what I paid for I guess. I won't be surprised if the hems pop of both pair of pants within a few months. I seriously doubt I'll be returning to this place. The whole experience just felt off. The place is dirty and I'd much rather pay more for a better quality job. read more

Very disappointed with the quality of work. Hems, lines and overall alterations to my suit pants looked bad. I had them fix it twice, still no improvement. I had to go to another tailor that laughed and pointed out all the flaws in the workmanship. When Ari is not around the quality takes a dive. It is very hard to find a good and non-sketchy tailor and when I saw the commercial for this place, I thought to myself, is this place for real? Hems at the price for $2.00 is very good! I brought my "collection" of pants to this location on Saturday morning. Unfortunately, my work pants/trousers are long and it is very hard to work in heels all day, since I walk a lot at work...so flats are a must! This place does not look like a "tailoring" place. Most of the time, they are dry cleaners and can do hem work as an extra. The location is hidden in Laguna Hills/El Toro and it is so fancy inside. So many mirrors to see what hemming or tailoring will be done! There is a big television so your friend or children are distracted while you're getting alterations done. I was amazed at how low the pricing is. If you go to their website, you can get coupons as well! The service was quick and the tailor was very nice. He (somewhat) reminded me of Gepetto from the Disney movie "Pinocchio" because he is this adorable "elderly" man and he was making jokes the whole time. He was also very quick to make the alterations. I love that their office hours are long or late so that I can pick up my clothes after work. Very friendly staff. Get here early so there is no wait, but during the day it is not that busy anyway. I went in for alterations on a Saturday and got my collection of pants on Monday and they were pressed very well! Yes their prices can't be beat but I've noticed lately that they have been rushing and not paying attention to the quality and detail of their work. My tailored suit jackets have looked "bunchy" near the cuff and 2 of my pant hemlines have unraveled. I will continue to come here and give them a few more shots; however, they need to pick up the quality of their work. I saw their ad on TV and couldn't believe that they really have hems for $2. You cant even get that price in the garment district in LA. When I entered the customer service representative said a quick hello and told me to go into the dressing room. I did and she quickly marked my pants. She asked when i would want to pick them up and I was hoping for 5 min, like they promise, but she said it would take at least 30 minutes for my 1 pant. I dropped off a womens top and mens shirt on Monday I desperately needed by Thursday night. They said after 4 on Thursday. Womens top was done but they "had a question" about if it was ok to lose a sleeve button in order to shorten the mens shirt sleeve. So they did NOTHING. No sleeve shortening and no telephoning with their question. They left me in a lurch At 5:00 on Thursday. Furthermore, the question was answerable at drop off. I will not go back. read more

The things I love most about this place are that 1) they are lightning fast and 2) they are very inexpensive. Frequently, when anyone goes for an alteration anywhere, it takes forever and it is very expensive. Also, there is no guarantee you'll get what you want. Brought in a Ben Sherman men's shirt today, to have it altered into a ladies' silhouette. It cost $11 to have the sides and sleeves slimmed. It will be done in two days. There is no guarantee it will be perfect, but the tailors here listen well. Be very specific about what you want. If, while they are pinning, you see something that doesn't look right, speak up. You need to advocate for yourself so you will be happy with the result. You probably wouldn't bring Gucci slacks to this place. Before you know it, they will alter almost everything in your closet, and your clothes will fit that much better. read more

Quality work and for very little money. My mother-in-law is a seamstress and she can't compete with their prices (thank goodness she's in New York). I've brought suits, slacks, jeans, yoga pants, dresses, skirts.... you name it, I've brought it. They have always hemmed what ever I bring in, quickly and with quality. Rooms are big for you to try the clothing on, and typically if you call the day before they promise, your clothes are already available. Prices are fair, and place is clean. The interior of this establishment looks more like a European discotheque but who am I to judge. I'm bringing in Old Navy work pants for a -- "hem jobbie". A lot of people seem to "tee off" on Yelp about this place and my guess is it is for services well beyond my basic hem job? Anyway, I came in for a work pant hem job and the cost was way better than my dry cleaner. The wife had gone to one of their other locations and had good things to say about similar service needs. Unfortunately, I told the girl behind the counter (and showed her the label on the pant) that I needed 2 inches shorter on the pants. I consistently wear a 36W x 32L on pants of all types so I knew what I needed. Regardless, you should ALWAYS try on the pants and let them show you what they'll remove. She didn't offer that and I failed to ask for it. Thus, they took off about 1/2" or 3/4" which left the pants way too long. When I went back a different woman (suspect maybe owner or co-owner) assisted me and had me try them on. Initially she had me going too deep (literally I would've been "flooding") and so she dialed it in and we had achieved success. When I tried on the pants they were exactly right. Surely the original sales girl should've recommended I try them on. However, I could've asked I guess too but being male...did not push for it. All in all, a good place for a basic hem and maybe more? read more

I needed two pairs of pants to be altered (they were two inches too long) so I visited Original Hems Studio on a Friday morning. The clerk who assisted me marked the pant legs, and she told me they would be ready Tuesday after 6pm. Since I don't drive after dinner, I picked up the pants on Wednesday morning. Despite having to wait five days, the results were definitely worth the wait. Now my pants fit perfectly! I will definitely go back to them with any future alteration needs. I will never return. I've been going to this tailor for years. I recently dropped off a pair of overalls and 2 pair of jeans to be hemmed. When I picked them up I realized they didn't hem the overalls they were only cut and still frayed at the bottom. I further inspected my receipt and realized they charged me $9.95 for the overalls and the jeans were $4.95. So I went back to the store and showed the girl my un-hemmed overalls and she said we thought you wanted them like that, only cut. I asked why the price difference and she responded because you were charged for overalls. My response was, "isn't it the same amount of work to have overalls vs. a pair of jeans hemmed?" She replied "yes and I don't make the prices." I told her I would not be back as a customer and she replied "ok." It cost $9.95 to cut the bottom of my overalls and $4.95 to hem a pair of jeans. This is absurd and makes no sense. It is the same amount of work. She agreed to sew a hem line on the overalls but unfortunately now they will probably be too short. It's sad because my extended family has alterations done here but I will advise them not to continue going here. The prices are fantastic. The employees are nice and helpful. I gave 4 instead of 5 s because a couple times, items were returned back without being altered at the Laguna Hills location.
