Just discovered Tommy's the last year or so. Pretty legit. Chili burgers and dogs are no joke. Food isn't heavy or greasy, kinda like the in n out of chili burgers, fresher ingredients without a lot of filler (I can only assume anyways). And for this particular location, this has to be the cleanest fast food place I have ever been in. I washed my hands by rubbing them on the floor, that's how clean this place was. Tommy's would usually be a 5 stars but I have to go 4 stars for this location. First, the portions are a little bit smaller on their chili fries here. Second, the flavor of the chili here is a little weaker than it should be. It was a little bland to be honest. If you live in So Cal and never had a Tommy burger, then you better put it on your short list. It's not In-N-Out, Father's Office, or like anything else. Tommy burgers is a So Cal classic topped with a thick wedge of tomato, chili, and onions. No Thousand Island dressing, no lettuce, no happy meal toy. Imagine the intensity and simplicity of texture and flavors - chili, bun, burger, onion, tomato. Tommy's chili is very old school. It's the kind that sticks to your gut, the type that has orange oil floating on top, strong of flavor, thick, and you can taste it for a couple of hours after your meal. They put a glob on top of their burgers which really sets it off. I have been to several of their locations. Pasadena is super clean, the original on Beverly is not like it used to be, and El Monte is Tommy's to me now days. As a side note, I used to go to the original off of Rampart on Beverly for many years. But, times have changed and the last time I went with the kids I told them to stick close, don't goof around, and ignore those beer bottles that were being thrown in the parking lot. I don't like being in that environment in my old age, so I go to the Tommy's in El Monte, Pasadena, and Santa Monica. I have a stern rule with Tommy's that I seem to break every now and then when I really want to have a heart attack but can't make it to Beverly original location or the Eagle Rock location. Then I regret it for a while. But you have to realize when going into a Tommy's that having regrets isn't something that wont happen. Because you're either going to regret something. Have it be that you just ate the entire heart attack burger killing your diet, regret it when you go to the restroom or just regret the area you are in. Regrets are free with any combo meal at Tommy's. Learn to deal with it. It's not optional. My general rule is that I only go to two locations as I've had a good history with them. I guess I should have held on to that rule. Not to say that this place is bad, it's just.. well, it's just in the middle of the bad part of El Monte. Though, that's suggesting that there's anything else other than a Bad part of El Monte. Back to the burger. It's a tommy's signature. Chili layered all over it like it's going out of style. Maybe if I kicked my heels a couple of times I would be taken back to MY Tommy's. as I never have a bad experience or a bad burger there. This one was slightly cold. Yes, slightly cold. How do you even try to eat a slightly cold tommy's burger? You can't! The chili has already hardened up to form a solid brick of lard. So that's a classic error there. Don't ever let a burger you're serving get cold. or even room temp. It's just not good at all. I'll slide and give them a 2.5 and round it up to 3 stars, because there's been times when I've gotten desperate for calories in a bun and eaten here that weren't as bad. I love Tommy's but really?! I only have a short period of time for lunch so I rushed over. I don't have a complicated order. I specially asked for NO ONIONS! She confirmed my order 2 times. And what did I get TONS AND TONS OF ONIONS! My whole burger was covered in onions. I had to scoop out every single piece of onions from my food. It was disgusting and I gave up on my burger and had to toss it. This might seem like no big deal to some. But to someone that HATES onions. It just ruined my whole lunch. read more

I lived in El Monte for the first part of my childhood so I can say that me and Tommy's go WAY back, back even to their original El Monte location before it became an Alfredo's. Hands down, this is probably the best no bullshit hamburger in Southern California. Three words describe the hamburgers: chili chili chili. I recommend ordering chili cheese fries as well to go along with your burger. No matter where I go for chili burgers or chili fries (which is not often) (Wienerschnitzel I'm looking at you) I am always disappointed by the fact that they are never as good as Tommy's hamburgers are. These are the real deal. Yes, they probably are very unhealthy, but who cares? It's SUPPOSED TO BE! If you want healthy then go eat a salad or something. The Best Chili Burgers Ever! This place puts chili on everything: hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, fries, you name it. You can also just get the chili by itself! Tommy's is great when you are really hungry for some juicy burgers with flavorful chili and some spicy yellow peppers on the side. Don't go when you aren't that hungry, you won't be able to finish your meal. The fries are awesome! Crispy on the outside soft on the inside... pretty much perfect. 5 stars for the chili alone. We love the stuff on burgers, fries & the tamales plus where else can you get the lovely thick juicy red tomato slices??? While some of the family likes the OG location off Rampart, why drive all the way to the west-side to eat in the parking lot?? I'm only writing this because of the horrible service we received at this location on Saturday, August 4. It's tradition after we go to the USC football games to stop by this location on our way home. While doing so we made our normal orders and the staff was very unhelpful, we asked for our burgers to be in lettuce wrap and one of them no tomatoes. When the orders were ready the rappers were marked with no tomatoes and it clearly had tomatoes on it, I took it back to let them know of the mistake and the person at the counter made it seem like it was my fault. I then asked for a bowl to put it in and they refused to give me one because they said those are for french fries only. The gentleman at the counter got very upset and rude with me at that time. We were there at 6:53pm on that afternoon and I am unfortunately here to say I will never go back to that location. read more

We usually hit-up the o.g. spot on Rampart & Beverly but since we were a bit further (near Cal State L.A. to be exact) it was a good idea to go to this one. Tommy's is my boyfriend's and his friends go-to late night snack/hangout meal place. In fact, they had it two or three times a week at one point so of course I had to check it out myself. First of all, don't expect anything fancy. It's located by the 10 fwy (exit Peck Rd/Valley Blvd) and is your typical fast food joint. The workers could be a little more happy and attentive but it is what it is. Between my boyfriend and I, we ordered: - Chili cheese burger: Looking at this, it wasn't appealing at all. However, the chili was pretty good - it exceeded my expectations of this place honestly. Could use a little more chili on the burger too 'cause it's THAT good. - Chili cheese fries: Maybe I've been spoiled with the portion sizes at Pepe's but the order of these were tiny! The fries are thicker and the cheese on top is a slice of cheese with the chili. Do yourself a favor and don't share, LOL They sell chili to-go too in case you're obsessed with it! Best Chili burgers in LA County and still at a great price. I love this Tommy's because it has plenty of parking and a nice wide drive through that moves pretty quick. Regarding the food, well you already know what you are getting. Its Tommys damit! Its not quite as good as the original Tommy's on...on... oh what street is that. No wonder I always get lost. Anyhow some of these other locations like Whittier and El Monte come pretty close. Eagle Rock is just not as good and I dont know why but it will do in an emergency. Hey, Im not driving to the originals in an Ford Expedition having to pay $3.35 a gallon! Chale! Im saving my coins to buy more burgers. In the area, I can only think of one thing for chili burgers. This always puts me in a food comma at work afterward. This is not the best location, but better than their Monrovia location. If you want an experience, go to Rampart and get it directly from the original shack. For a much closer experience, go to the boat up on Huntington and Rosemead (I heard they reopened with as new building) or the original Hat location. I would only come back if my co-workers wanted to go, but won't go on my own. I have still yet to try the Mega meal (triple chili cheese burger with chili cheese fries and drink) but I don't think I should any more. It wasn't just a coincidence because that's the only thing we ate the same that day and my stomach is not sensitive at all it takes a lot to make me sick and the fact that it happened to us both definitely from the breakfast burritos. My first time to a Tommy Burgers ever. We came on the way home from the Adele concert because my husband who I dragged to the concert wanted some Tommy's so of course we went. I wasn't in the mood for a burger, so I got the chili cheese dog combo. I didn't realize the combo came with such a massive drink cup! The hotdog was delish and I used every last fry to scrape ay remaining chili! The fries were nice and crispy and super fast and nice service. I'm glad they opened one in Montclair which is a little closer to my home. Can't wait to have more Tommy's. read more
