Unfortunately, I had another occasion recently to need pest control services in connection with a rat problem I was having. We had used a different service provider 9 months or so earlier and had the problem under control until it wasn't again! The earlier exclusion work that had been performed had been compromised. I had found the likely place they were getting in and had reset traps in the basement; but, because I had had such a good experience earlier with Fermin and Certech, I called them up to get their professional experience and assessment. As was the earlier case with the Ant issue, they were responsive to my call, came out within 24 hours, and just brought a huge dose of professionalism and reasonableness. I don't know what it is with the pest business; but, I just always feel like I am being fed a bunch of scare tactics, oversold, and then left in the end too often with an ineffective solution , a long-term contract and difficulty in following up once they have the contract. That just hasn't been the case with Certech and it stands out as different from their competitors and is also so refreshing. Fermin was as patient, friendly and knowledgeable as he had been when he came out to our house earlier for the ants, and he worked with me to acknowledge the work already done and then advise and recommend only what incrementally needed to be done. He even helped me clear the catches I had in the traps I had set and rebait them. He also confirmed my assessment on the place they were likely getting in and helped me reclose that; but, also took it upon himself to do a comprehensive search for other exclusion gaps including up on the roof when he noticed a place our oak tree was touching the house. At the end, once again differentiating themselves from their competition, there were no exorbitant charges for the visit and no hard sell for a continuing contract. He was so honest he even told me I should be fine now with how things were and just to keep monitoring the exclusion areas and check the traps now and then. And, to call them again if I ever need them. So refreshing and, once again, renewing my faith that friendly, quality, professional service is still available in our community.

And even though the employee might do the same exact thing as he would on a sanctioned job, there's always short cuts and no boss to answer to, and someone inexperienced might not understand exactly what it is that you're looking for. You see, I live in a complex built to house the homeless, and well, those are some disgusting individuals, I'm talking people walking past smelling like urine, people washing their sleeping bag that's covered in a large urine stain, people with their balconies filled with broken things they got out of the garbage, a shopping cart with three wheels, a broken guitar, broken doll, a bike with one wheel. So, guess what, yep, that's right, we've got a huge pest problem, I'm not just talking bed bugs, we've got roaches, rats, mice, fleas. So that means my small apartment is infested in bed bugs, and I actually got to watch them crawling under the wall from the apartments on either side of me. I've had this issue for a long time, so yes, it's my fault it's gone this long, but I've never had bed bugs until here, I don't go digging through garbage cans looking for broke items, I've always been a clean person, now I'm waking up in the middle of the night checking to see if I have bed bugs crawling on me. So I did pay someone under the table, and they did give me a heat treatment, I felt it, the problem is, it's like they were never here, I've got multiple bed bug stains along the baseboards, like a dozen, but my worse infestation is my computer chair, imagine my surprise when I walked in and it was still infested, you see, I thought they would spray the entire chair, including the inside. So those stains also signify an active infestation, I still have live bed bugs in those stains, bed bugs still crawling around, and thanks to this complex it's getting worse, I'm actively searching them out and it's been two days since the heat treatment. It's going to stay the same until I can get all signs of them gone, start fresh, start from scratch, that way I can see where they're coming from. So please take my advice, pay the extraordinarily high fees, it's an investment in your peace of mind.

They were even starting to take over my home office, which was completely unacceptable. I fully expected a reply in a couple of hours and a service appointment a few days out. Instead, Mark got back to me within 15 minutes and had a technician at my door in less than two hours. I couldn't believe it--who bends over backwards like that these days? The technician arrived promptly, tackled the problem areas, and was incredibly professional. A few days later, some ants popped up in an adjacent area. However, when the day finally came, they sent Zach out to perform the treatment, and he completely changed my outlook on the situation. Zach was outstanding. He took his time, was thorough, professional, and never seemed rushed. He explained what he was doing, answered my questions, and clearly knew his stuff. On top of that, he was just a genuinely chill and pleasant guy to work with. It's rare to find technicians who combine knowledge, professionalism, and customer service as well as he does. In my opinion, Zach deserves a raise or a promotion.

We paid $900 for a termite treatment that didn't work - and they wouldn't honor the warranty…read more Hi-Tech did a spot termite treatment around a window in our home. Six months later I noticed more droppings and called Hi-Tech back. Their technician told me it was likely the house settling and nothing to worry about. When we opened up the window trim during a siding project, we found tons of live termites (see photo) - still within our 1-year warranty period. When I called the office, I was told the warranty only covered the "inside" of the window, not the outside. It is the same window and the same termite problem. They offered to come back out and inspect, but quoted another $900. No apology, no ownership of the fact that the original treatment hadn't worked. I didn't feel right paying again for the same issue - and for a company I couldn't trust to solve the problem. The inspectors themselves were professional and courteous. The office experience was not. I ended up hiring a different company who treated the problem thoroughly and has been excellent. I'd recommend Hi-Tech improve how they handle situations where a treatment doesn't work. A little accountability goes a long way.

Mighty Men gave a quote of a minimum of $400, and doesn't offer vacuuming. Meanwhile, Norcal Wildlife Removal did the job the day after I called -- vacuuming and all --for $375, which included a travel surcharge of $75 from San Jose to my home in Oakland. Contrast that with a quote of $800 from All N One Pest Eliminators (and the quote came almost a week after I requested it). Try Norcal Wildlife Removal instead, or Dan the Bug Man for non-raccoon issues.
