I took my car there not once but twice and got cheated out of TWO state inspections fees. I called this shop based on their ad on Google for a discounted state inspection. The first time I went, they failed my state inspection and surprised me with items that need to get done on my car totaling in excess of $700. Not only that, but as the manager explained to me the issues, he told me it would not cost much ($10 here, $20 there, etc.). But then to only receive a phone call later in the day with a much higher work estimate of $700+. I ordered the items myself from Amazon (new hood strut, back tag light, new rearview mirror) and did most of the easy items myself. I also consulted with their state inspector over the phone and he guided me on what needs to be done and gave me assurances it would be fine. Then took the car back for re-inspection. First thing I am told is it can't be re-inspected anymore because it has been over 30 days and that I must do a whole new inspection and pay the full price over again. Not given much choice, I agreed for a second inspection. Then they failed me again! Not only some of the same issues but new issues as well! They even knocked down my rear view mirror that I installed claiming it was already on the seat. My obvious question for that is if it was already on the seat, why do an inspection and fail me in the first place? Wouldn't it be common courtesy to point that out before you start? This not the only thing, the manager was extremely rude to me and said he is a veteran and worked for the government and I have to watch what I am saying. I advised him I would report the shop to the Better Business Bureau and he said "I didn't care" among other things. I can go into the details of what he said (state inspector is a police officer, i am a bad person, etc.) but I am not here to focus so much on that. It was just very unprofessional. My advise: don't do your state inspections there. I will follow through with my Better Business Bureau complaint and once I get the car inspected somewhere else, I will let you know what the outcome is. This was my second time taking my 2011 Audi A4 to Ormbsy and I called ahead and spoke with Nate who told me that they could see me that day for a brake light replacement. My first visit was a 30k check. On my second visit I was delighted to be reacquainted with Wil. As a woman who knows very little about cars, it was really nice to have the guys walk me through what was needed without making me feel like a complete nitwit and also feel like I got a great and fair deal. We loved the repair experience at Ormsby! We found Ormsby Auto online. With so many good reviews, we decided to give them a try. Our 2005 MDX was in an accident and the insurance company declared it was not repairable. We have also tried other body shops and most of them either charged us a very high price or said it is not worth to repair it. But we loved our car too much so we decided to bring it to Ormsby. My boyfriend and I recently purchased a 2013 Acura TSX from VA so of course we needed an inspection. I called and thankfully they had same day availability. They were able to complete the inspection in under one hour and answered all of our questions. I got my state inspection done here and its the lowest price in the area and the inspection was incredibly thorough . I had a completely cracked suspension spring and no one would've seen it unless it was done right. When my husband took off the spring to replace it, it broke at the crack . I recently moved to Rockville from Toronto. I had to get the Maryland vehicle inspection done on my Acura EL (which is only available in Canada) before the title/registration process. I was greeted by a cheery character who took in my car and promised the process would be completed within two hours. I was a little apprehensive since my car is not available in the USA and therefore whether it would pass the inspection. I got a call promptly within 45 minutes that my car was ready for pick-up and that the only thing that was needed was a new set of windshield wipers. They had located all the specs for my car without any problem. They didn't try to force me into purchasing it from them or getting installed there, but I did anyway because it wasn't a significant cost. A really pleasant experience in the end - I plan to use these guys from here on for oil changes and other repairs for my car. I will recommend them to others. read more

To start off, I called the store and asked if they could do an alignment on my '67 Mustang to which he proceeded to sound sarcastic and asked "what's the difference between a '67 and '77" instead of a yes or no answer I was looking for. I called back the next day and spoke with someone else who assured me I could bring in my car to get it aligned within an hour, but when I went to Ormsby Auto today suddenly I would have to wait 3-4 hours and was told it probably wouldn't work. It's fine it won't work, but I would have appreciated an upfront answer on the phone so I wouldn't have to waste a half day off from work. read more

I took my 2009 Nissan Altima to these disgusting people for MD inspection and they tried to get over on me. I've heard people say that some auto places will try to get over on women but I never experienced it till now. Ormsby Auto told me that my rack and pinion was leaking (both) and my rear struts was leaking as well. They gave me an estimate of $944 and would waiver the re-inspection fee of $35. Now, I showed the estimate to my co-worker's brother and he told me they were charging too much for the parts (way over $300). I purchased both parts online for less than $225 and took my car to my mechanic to have the repairs done and he told me there was NOTHING WRONG with my rack and pinion but did fixed the rear struts for $100. The next day I took my car to another MD inspection place and guess what, it passed MD inspection which means the 2nd person looking at my car didn't see anything wrong with my rack and pinion either but this despicable place tried to get over on me at $944. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE; I REPEAT, DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE unless you have time and plenty of money to waste. VERY DISSATIFIED AND WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN NOR WILL I EVER RECOMMEND THESE JERKS TO ANYONE. read more

On Monday morning, last week on my way to work on 270 south bound my car, got overheated, I called AAA for help, they could not help me, took me and the car to Ormsby auto, when we got there the person behind the counter, with a lot of compassion and concerned, explained to me what could be the problem, put my mind at ease asked me to wait for 15 minutes, so the master technician will let us know what the problem, the master technician told Wil that for now it looks the upper hose of the radiator is broken of, Wil explained to me , we have two choices , I can let you have the loaner car or you can wait for about an hour for them to repair or replace the hose..., I decided to wait, in any case that was the only problem which was wrong with the overheating, they could of hold the car for one day and charge me arm and leg, they didn't, honest clean and great service, they charged me for only one hour labor and part, best experience ever with a repair shop. Friendly, however after spending some time servicing my car in the area I found they were overpriced for what they are and had trouble diagnosing simple problems with my car. I am not sure if it's because they were unsure or were trying to make money, but either way that's why I stopped going to them. Originally went here when I first moved back to the area a few years ago, since as a woman who has no knowledge of cars I saw their good reviews on yelp... and another woman had good experiences with them. Did standard oil changes with them (and now realize they charged almost double the price of other places), but when my car started leaking and a mysterious light came on, they could not troubleshoot it. Instead, they performed a $100 smoke test to come to an uncertain conclusion, and suggested lengthy repairs. I took it to another shop who quickly took a look, diagnosed my problem (something had become detached in the engine, layman's terms) and it took them 5 minutes. Charged me $0. Never brought my car back to Ormsby after that. Admittedly they are very friendly and were honest with me saying they do charge more than other places because they're a smaller shop, but they put good service into it. While I don't doubt them, I was still able to find better, more reliable repairs elsewhere (also at smaller shops) and for much cheaper read more

I wanted to give 4.5 stars, but hey if I had to choose, this place was pretty damn good. I took my standard sedan to Ormsby's to get my state inspection done (transferring a used car from OH to MD). I am extremely skeptical of all car repair shops, had to pay well over $600, and am still extremely dissatisfied with MD's inspection/registration guidelines (WAY too strict), but Ormsby's itself was extremely helpful and a great experience. They have a really nice waiting room (free coffee and tea!), and several staff around to assist different people. When you are talking to someone, they don't mind taking time to explain some of the technical reasons for auto damage, or the legal reasons for why repair is needed. They were also a great help in reducing the end cost. They mainly did this by either cutting the 'labor time' from the end bill, or by recommending a cheaper way to get the repair done (even including suggestions that absolutely lost them money, which encouraged me to trust spending money on them in other instances). For example, my muffler was failing inspection because there was a leak in the pipe leading to the muffler itself. The inspector simply said "muffler replacement needed" but the Ormsby's folks (Nate specifically - thanks!) recommended that I take it to any place that does welding, and see if they could just weld the broken pipe well enough to pass inspection; the 'muffler replacement' option would have cost me shy of $400 (which would have been paid to Ormsby's) but the welding option ended up costing me only $140 (and wasn't even paid to Ormsby's) so I ended up actually trusting the folks there. Definitely recommend for going there for inspections, and I'm sure they're alright for some more routine car maintenance as well! read more

When I moved to Bethesda, Maryland, I had no idea where to go to have my state inspection and work done. I found Ormsbt Auto online and made an appointment based on the reviews I read. I cannot say enough good things about my experience at Ormsby Auto. Being a young woman, I often don't get taken seriously when I take my car in for service (even though I know quite a bit about my car). Not only was I treated with great respect, but I don't feel I was taken advantage of. Frank also took the time to explain the entire state inspection process to me along with other things involving having your car certified in the state (he was busy and didn't have to do this for me). At one point it looked like a part may have to be ordered to pass the inspection, but Frank too a second look into the situation and fixed the issue withing minutes. It turns out no part was needed and I was not charged for the extra time. Orsmby Auto provides quality service at a reasonable price. I will be going back to Orsmby Auto in the future and highly recommend the shop. If you have any issues, ask for Frank and he will take care of you. read more

Not trustworthy at all!!! My car began making a noise that I thought was coming from the front driver's side wheel. I suspected that it was a wheel bearing, so replaced the wheel bearing assembly on the front driver's side. The noise did not go away, so I decided to have Ormsby Auto take a look. They said that it would cost $1500 to fix my car. They wanted to replace both front wheel bearing assemblies (Yes, including the one that was brand-new as of 5 days before), all the rotors, the brake pads, and the rear drum brakes. I had just seen the rotors and the brake pads in the front when I changed the one wheel bearing assembly. The rotor that I saw did not have any etching and the brake pad was still very thick (nowhere near through the indicator line). They may have had some credibility if they even mentioned that the front driver's side wheel bearing assembly did not need replaced since it appeared new. Anyways, I brought the car home, replaced the passenger side wheel bearing assembly myself ($80 from Advanced Auto) and the noise went away. read more
