This place is a must stop if you are visiting LA and, if you live here like me, I recommend you make it one of your regular stops for an upscale Italian dining experience. I had seen and heard about it for a while but it can be hard to get a table because it's so good and everyone knows about it (except me until now). Best way to get a table is on OpenTable and during the week they have better availability. Really cool ambiance open kitchen concept. You really do feel like you are on vacation or at a nice hotel here, the staff are really friendly and personable. Our waitress Millie was phenomenal and probably the best service I've had in LA. You have to try a mozarella dish because, I mean you are going to a restaurant called "Mozza!" I really liked the Mozarella di Bufala Condimenti because it came with a variety of dips. The steak was awesome and I love that they prepare it medium rare. The mushrooms that came with the steak had this awesome umami flavor. They serve this raviolo (which is Italian for single giant ravioli filled with a gooey egg and cheese) which was unlike anything I've had before. The Garganelli pasta with ragú bolognese was really awesome, i loved the big pasta noodles and the bolognese was so flavorful. Everything was doused in just the right amount of butter and sauced and seasoned to perfection. I don't think you can order a dish from here that isn't delicious. Been wanting to try this spot for quite some time. I met up with a friend for dinner. We did have to wait a bit despite having reservations. Our server was great and throughly explained the menu to us. We started with the mozzarella di bufula tasting which was amazing. The cheese was delicious and the garlic bread served with it was incredible. We got the arugula salad next which was good but a bit too much cheese for my liking. The server suggested the garganelli with bolognese which was also good. Ended off dinner with the most amazing tiramisu. Overall the food was really good. initially, I was really excited to try this spot because I've heard raving reviews about it. We had a reservation an hour and a half before closing, and we were seated at the very back of the restaurant behind a half wall. The restaurant was dim and moody (in a good way), it definitely had an elevated feel to it. we ordered a burrata appetizer with fried peppers as well as the green goddess salad, and it took around 30 minutes to get to our table. the burrata was good, but not memorable, and the salad as not my favorite. I've definitely had better gem salads elsewhere. the candied nuts were too sweet and overpowering in my opinion. We also ordered lamb chops and one pasta dish, but for some reason, it took another hour for just two main dishes to come out. The server came to check on us and asked us how our pasta tasted, without knowing that none of our main dishes had even come to the table yet. He then apologized, and gave us free prosciutto as compensation for the hour long wait. when our main dishes finally arrived at the table, I was glad that at least the pasta and the lamb we ordered tasted really good. The lamb chops were probably one of the most tender that I've ever tried, and the pasta was definitely made in the house and the sauce was really unique. But the manager, with a thick Italian accent, crossed the line. He insisted on telling me how to sit on my chair, even though I explained I have back problems and positioned it to avoid getting bumped. It was absurd and uncomfortable. I feel like this is a bittersweet review unfortunately:( food was phenomenal but our experience and the service we received was awful. I hate writing negative reviews... My best friend had told me about this amazing spot and took me to Osteria for my birthday dinner. We had been talking about this spot for months on end. Once we were ready to order our server looked at us and said "that's it?" And looked us up and down saying we weren't going to get full and said "fine ok" so rudely and started taking our menus. Mind you, we were ordering a pasta dish that my friend had on a different occasion and knew that it was big enough to split, scallops, and some appetizers. The waiter scoffed as she finished taking our menus and I asked if I could keep one in case we wanted to order more and she said, "Why? The kitchen is backed up and if you order later you won't get it in time" even though there was still 3-4 hours left til closing. We felt pressured because of how she was speaking to us and decided to order our own meals and cancel the scallops. When we called her back she looked happy that we ordered more and so bothered that we didn't want the scallops anymore (it had been less than a minute that we had ordered and she walked away) she laughed at us and rolled her eyes and walked away. At that point I felt so uncomfortable my friend and I looked at each other and felt like we had done something wrong even though we knew we hadn't. When our dishes arrived they had split my dish into two plates and my friends dish was portioned less than half (it's a dish that they had ordered multiple times and was always portioned tripled) we were confused but rolled with it. The waiter never checked in on us, not once not even to refill water. We tried flagging her down but it didn't work. When she came over with the check she asked if we wanted dessert and asked if they had a complimentary birthday dessert and she looked at me with such disgust and attitude looked me up and down and said," no we don't do that I don't know who you spoke to, you have to buy it and I'll just put a candle on it". So we did just that. The manager walked over and asked if everything was okay after observing her and we were trying so hard to stay positive we said yes. He ended up comping our dessert and when she brought over our check she charged us for the canceled scallops and when we brought it to her attention she was annoyed. Anyway I want to say my friend and I are very patient and like to give the benefit of the doubt in every situation but this was so incredibly uncomfortable that we felt anxious to even go to the restroom and walk past her :( We were very kind and respectful to her, dressed appropriately as you would to a high end restaurant, we couldn't figure out why she was being that way. It's like a 4.5. I came here with my family after probably 10 years. We shared a bunch of dishes. Best to come with a group. We got the Caesar salad which wasn't worth it and very small but good. We liked burrata artichoke on toast it was really good. The pasta portions were very small for the price, Cavatelli was alright too lemony, and the Raviolo was very good but too small and it is what they are famous for apparently. The Tagliata steak was great. Bombolini for dessert was great. The Sangiovese wine was a great big pour. It is pricey overall but good for a special occasion or for once in a while. For the entrees, I got the Ricotta and Egg Raviolo and the Orecchiete. They were both so good! I was a bit skeptical about the single ravioli, but it was spectacular! This place has been on my to go list for a very very long time! I finally got to go when a few of my old coworkers wanted to get together for a nice dinner. It was easy to make the reservation on OpenTable. We showed up on time and had to make a slight adjustment to our reservation but they were very accommodating. even with the slight modification our table is ready right around the time we had the actual reservation. Now, it's been a while since I've been to a nice restaurant at this caliber with a group of friends. The ambience was amazing and the service was impeccable. The waitstaff was super attentive and very helpful in explaining the different items. Again it's been a while for me at this type of restaurant but I thought the service was just amazing. Most of us actually ended up ordering the yellowtail which was one of the faves of our waiter. So overall in terms of food we ordered the 36 month white cow modenese parmigiano reggiano and the fett'unta. The cheese and the prosciutto was absolutely amazing. You're going to get a strong flavor from me a cheese aged for that long and a tasty prosciutto was a great pairing, the bread or fett'unta was more enjoyable than I expected and I expected a lot. When I dip bread in olive oil myself, I usually soak it. This tasted like it was infused with olive oil and with lots of garlic. Love this bread. A friend ordered the maltagliati verde and I got to try a bite. The pasta was so good... got a bite of another friend's gnocchi. I wanna come back just to order a whole plate of pasta just for myself. I ordered the grilled yellowtail spiedini. The fish was perfectly grilled and crispy he flavor was just so fresh and herbaceous. I felt like I was eating clean. I squeezed a lot of lemon over the dish as well which made me enjoy it that much more. We got the olive oil cakes for dessert. Not much of a dessert person, but had a bite and enjoyed the flavor combination going on here. I'm glad I got to finally come here and with some great company as well. Walked in, greeted quickly and seated right away even though we were 10 minutes late (we're cringy I know) it was perfectly crowded enough to people watch and also enjoy the noise level. I wasn't aware that Osteria had a Michelin star! Foodwise, the pasta was amazing, only the portions weren't. Came on a Monday night with a friend without reservations and we were seated at the bar. Make a reservation in advance so you can score an actual seat! We tried the egg raviolo as our starter and I ordered the tagliatelle with oxtail as my main dish. Pasta was al dente and the flavor was all there. I really enjoyed the egg raviolo and would have wanted to order more! But it is on the pricier side for 1 piece of ravioli. Regardless, a must try for this spot. Topped it off with olive oil cake as dessert and that was also delicious. Parking can be a bit tricky in this area because the neighborhood area requires a residential permit for parking but there is valet parking for $10 as an option. Ambiance was good...food not so much. I'm genuinely surprised that one of the dishes even came out of the kitchen. I highly respect Nancy Silverton as she is a pioneer and legend in the business, so I was truly shocked at how salty one of the dishes were. The octopus was excellent, as was Nancy's trio of mozzarella...but the pasta and the bread was just too salty. I think there was sea salt on the bread that was just unnecessary. We split the pasta dish so there really wasn't much for either of us to eat...but when my wife and I ate the few bites, we both said how salty it was. The dessert was good - the drink was almost tasteless. Anyhow, our second time here and we were disappointed. Just so inconsistent and that is often a tell tale sign that the kitchen is disjointed...at least for that night. It's hard to believe that after 12 years of living in LA, I've never gone to Osteria Mozza. I've heard about it plenty, sure, but I've always opted to go to the other Osterias instead (Mamma and La Buca). Honestly...they're all very different restaurants and unique in their own way. The evening was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster ride, because we started off a bit hangry and irritated but ended feeling pretty satisfied and OK. We arrived on time for our 7:45pm reservation, but we weren't seated until around 8:20pm and then we didn't have our menus/order until 8:30pm. When I'm hungry, I tend to be very observant of the time. Some thoughts that were going through my head in those moments? 1. "I'm so freaking hungry." 2. "I don't want to drink on an empty stomach." 3. "Why do you have an $80 cancellation fee if you're not going to respect our time when we arrive on time?" 4. "The restaurant is closed in 30 minutes." That's what was going on for me in my hanger state. The hostess had explained that the party before us was still dining/having dessert/just hanging out after their meal, which honestly didn't make me feel better, it just made me think they should tell them to ska-doodle because there are other reservations. Around 8:15pm, the hostess let us know they were going to give us something for waiting. Fine, I accept lol. Anyways, fast forward to our meal. We ordered: Mozzarella di Bufala Tasting Crispy Pig Trotter Grilled Octopus Ricotta & Egg Raviolo Gnocchi Blackhawk Farms Wagyu Beef Secreto I finished my free glass of champagne before the food arrived, so I was a bit shwasty by the time the food came. I felt a lot better after the food came, plus they gave us a free order of Burrata & Braised Leeks (compliments of chef), which was tasty but oh boy we were full by the time the entrees arrived. The dinner experience more than made up for our nightmare of a wait earlier in the night. My thoughts about the food?? Burrata & Braised Leeks + Mozzarella di Bufala Tasting Between two people, we didn't need the extra appetizer, but it was nice we got to take it home to enjoy. The bread that came with the cheese was really tasty!!! The braised leeks dish was better than the tasting, but parts of it were saltier than other spots...and the saltier parts were pretty overpowering. Crispy Pig Trotter Pretty good!! But there was only one teeny little crispy piece and a salad. Like... the size of a Gatorade bottle cap. Grilled Octopus Yum! Grilled octopus has always been a favorite of mine, so I wasn't going to pass on this dish. Ricotta & Egg Raviolo This giant ravioli was delicious!! We were pretty full by the time this dish came out, but we still finished it. The taste wasn't overpowering and it was a really pleasant dish overall. Egg in the middle was pretty cool too. Gnocchi Was OK. I ordered this because I normally order Gnocchi at Osteria Mamma (theirs is better IMO). The texture was a bit tougher than preferred, and the duck ragu was strong as well. So I guess it's a preference thing, but I don't think I'll be ordering this next time. Blackhawk Farms Wagyu Beef Hmmmm. Very interesting sweet and salty dish. I liked the taste of the sweet wagyu beef, but I was not a fan of the salad. I personally prefer natural flavors of vegetables, especially salad...and I think it's a problem when the salad is just smothered in salt or salty dressing idk what that was. Just let the arugula be arugula! Anyways, that's my two cents. I'm not a professional food critic at all so I may be way off base with my review of some of the dishes. If you're someone who's a fan of strong flavors - this place is for you! Also, be prepared to wait past your reservation time...we weren't the only table waiting past their reservation. I think the servers really try to make up for that extra wait time with the free champagne/dishes though so... yah. PS when we arrived, the waiter told us that they were sold out of the "Burricotta & Spiced Walnuts" which honestly, we weren't going to order...but after he told us it was sold out, we were suddenly very curious about it. We really enjoyed our meal including my 9 and 11 year old boys. They really liked the assorted cheese appetizer, as well as the beef tartar. Hands down the best dining experience of my life. How anyone can come to this stunning place and eat the incomparable food and give it less than 5 stars here is beyond me. Came for my birthday and there was not one aspect of the food or service that was not exemplary. From the moment I walked through the doors, I was floored by the atmosphere and aesthetic. Being here feels somehow like being in your nonna's kitchen and being in a high end art gallery at the same time. I had a cocktail, smoked mozzarella, the Caesar salad, 2 pastas (agnolotti and orecchiette), beef tagliata, and tira misu. It was all so exquisite, I didn't eat anything for most of the next day because tainting my palate with anything else after such a perfect meal felt just wrong. The service was also next level, everyone was so attentive and kind. This restaurant achieved something beautiful- it's a small microcosm in which beauty and art and efficiency and warmth combine to create an experience that cannot be described or replicated. The first thing I noticed as soon as I walked inside was the overwhelming smell of cooking, which lasted throughout dinner! Like burnt oil smell (they cook something in the dining area). How could a high end restaurant smell like that?! It stuck to our hair and clothes and it was so bad we couldn't wait to get home to shower. The food was a big disappointment. Some dishes were good, but no where near Michelin star good. For appetizers we got: 1. Shaved Brussels Sprouts: pretty good. 2. Mozzarella di Bufala Condimenti: bad. Bread was over toasted (though other pictures here show less toasted bread), greasy, and the pieces on the bottom were bread edges with hardly any bread. I didn't think any of the toppings were anything special with the mozzarella, but a couple tasted good on their own. The mozzarella was ok. 3. Shima Aji Crudo: I like lemony, but this was nothing special. We were hoping the pasta would be better. We got: 1. Pici: worst dish of the evening. Pasta was too under cooked (I get al dante, but this was hard to chew) and the tomato sauce was salty and blah. The breadcrumbs added good texture. 2. This is your go-to spot to celebrate a special occasion or have a fancy dinner. It has one Michelin Star, too! We came here for a friend's birthday on a Sunday evening. Placing the reservation on OpenTable was very easy, and they also sent a reminder message the day before we went. This spot is on Melrose, and we took an Uber there, so I am not too sure about the parking, but there may be a valet service. Our table wasn't ready when we got there, so they had us wait at the bar. We ordered some wonderfully tangy cocktails: Rosa Sprtiz, Sergio Leone, and Sculaccione. I had the latter (tequila base), and it was surprisingly fruity, so I definitely recommend this one if you're looking for that taste. Once we were seated, our waitress took our order immediately. We started off with the Mozzarella di Bufala and Condimenti (comes with taosted bread). Our waitress was super accommodating and gave us more dipping sauces that were vegetarian. This is a great appetizer to share! I got the Maltagliati Verde; the pasta is actually green, and the rabbit ragu was deliciously savory. My friends got the Butternut Squash Tortelloni and Gnocchi, and were equally satisfied with their meals. The pasta dishes are not considered "main" dishes, so they run on the smaller end. I would recommend the Gnocchi if you're looking for a sizeable and filling option. We also split the Japanese Sweet Potatoes as a side. Wow! I had dinner reservations here for a Thursday night at 6:30pm. Be sure to make a reservation because the place became packed throughout the night. My party of 3 ordered the burrata with spiced walnuts, brussel sprouts, wagyu beef segreto, grilled yellowtail, and 3 pastas. The waitress said we needed to order everything at the very beginning which I'm not accustomed to at other restaurants. My favorite items were the grilled yellowtail and the Orecchiette pasta. These 2 were great. The burrata was OK-- I didn't like the cracker/bread it was on. There are other burrata options from the menu that I think I may have liked better, but this one was recommended to us by our waitress. The Brussel sprouts were not at all what I was expecting. The plate looked like shaved lettuce with a splash of lemon and almonds--I've attached a photo. I couldn't eat it at all, but my coworkers thought it was fine. The tagliatelle with oxtail ragu was just OK to me. The Cacio e Pepe was good. My favorite drink was the Gordon's cup. I also had a spritz and mojito and those 2 were just average. The maple gelato was good too. The ambience was nice and dimly lit. First the $55 mushrooms that are supposed to be out of this world arrived before our drinks, then the Cacio E Pepe was nothing to rave home about (Trader Joe's frozen is better), the lamb chops were all fat, no meat. My wife and I dined here for NYE for the first time. I ordered the beef cheek ravioli and she got the tagliatelle. The raviolis were outstandingly delicious, the beef cheeks were super flavorful and not overly sauced, letting the flavors stand on their own. It was so good, I considered ordering another plate of it, but we both wanted to save room for dessert, for which we ordered the Butternut squash tart. The tart was so good as well, not too sweet, kind of in between savory and sweet with rich squash flavors. The crust was buttery and the dates were soft and really tasty. I loved the place and should have gone there long time ago! That is my executive summary. The food, the service, and the ambiance were exceptional. I my opinion, the question whether Mozza, a Michelin star holder, is authentic Italian or not could not be more irrelevant. Cuisine - and parenthetically also the US constitution - should not be held hostage in ancient times but be given the space and freedom to grow, to evolve, and to interpret solutions according to modern needs and technology. We were on time, but the table was not immediately ready. Our patience was met with gratitude by the unsolicited addition on the house of prosciutto and honey melon, both parenthetically of stunning quality. I have always considered Bavel's octopus the benchmark, but first of all, I am not even sure whether they still offer it on their menu, and second, Mozza's grilled octopus was nothing but perfect and supremely tender, coming on a bed of celery, green onions and mini potatoes with a lemon reduction. Nancy Silverton's Favorite Trio of mozzarella di Bufala offered three different combinations: Cantabrian anchovies, semi-dried tomatos and delicious "cruschi" (dried, like chips of) peppers, all three of which matched with the fett'unta, a wonderfully unhealthy fresh and tasty bread. Who would have thought that I would ever evolve from running as far away as possible from Brussels sprouts (when I was a child long long time ago) to now loving it! Particularly as prepared at Mozza in form of shaved Brussel sprouts with mint, almonds and pecorino. Perfect and very light! As Primo (first course), we ordered the ricotta and egg raviolo with browned butter as well as the gnocchi with duck ragú. Either one was outstanding, unconventional, on point, i.e. a feast. Both had the cooking perfectly timed such that the embedded egg yolk was golden and liquid and the pasta/gnocchi in both just a tiny touch al dente. As secondo (2nd course), we chose the grilled whole orata (dorade fish) with head and tail on but nicely deboned in the middle and filled with greens before being wrapped in a radicchio leave and served with olive oil. The fish was very tasty and so soft and tender that it nearly melted on the tongue. Simply perfect! No space for desserts! Objectively true, subjectively wrong! Can't be!!! Hence, we had to try something, and the vanilla bean panna cotta was a perfect choice. I was probably the best panna cotta I remember in recent years, very light, not too sweet, and beautifully combining with the flavors of a mixed berry compote and a few belli bruti (translated: beautiful uglies): There was nothing ugly, and the flavor and texture of the roasted hazelnut kiss - enriched by the expresso - provided an impeccable finale. 300$ but worth every penny. read more

My partner and I celebrated our anniversary at Osteria Mozza and we both agreed the experience wasn't very good. Probably not even a little bit good. Maybe fine at best. It started on a high note, we arrived early, the host greeted us graciously, wished us a happy anniversary, and suggested having a drink at the bar while we waited for our table to be ready. We wandered over to the bar and each had a solid cocktail while taking in the ambiance, which was decidedly "upscale Carrabba's". Still, we were enjoying our drinks, people around us seemed excited to be there, the smells were pleasant, so far so good. We were seated, there was a card on the table wishing us a happy anniversary, nice. We meet our server and from the start he just didn't seem to like us. People have off days, so I'm not going to hold it against him, but parties near us seemed much better attended to and we didn't feel particularly welcome. With the price point and reputation of the restaurant we expected better. Regardless, we were there for the food. Burrata was a good start, along with a decent radicchio salad (my partner and I were kind of split on the salad but she loved it and I'd eat it again). We had similar feelings on the fett'unta, not as good as I'd expected but maybe my expectations were too high. The pasta was the major disappointment, the pappardelle and the agnolotti were both overcooked and lacking texture. The pasta was supposed to be the star of the night and it was a massive letdown. We had a sprouted cauliflower dish alongside the pasta and that, along with the burrata, might have been the best food of the evening. We skipped dessert. I would have given the place 5 stars for it's absolutely delicious food, but it deserves a single star for rudeness of their manager or the person who came and impolitely asked us to wrap it up when their service kept us there longer. We met friends we had not seen do a while for dinner here. The place is beautiful. The food is delicious. Did we take a bit longer to decide what to have and enjoy the company of friends while chatting, yes. But were we sitting with a finished table for 30 minutes after paying our bill? No! But we did sit for a few minutes after we got the check to finish our coffee when under the guise of "how was your meal" a manager of some sort said "if you're finished we do have another party waiting" an asked us to leave. I'm quite honest in saying this is the ONLY restaurant where I've had this said and it's happened where I've inadvertently stayed longer in other places. We paid for a nice meal and many drinks. To come and ask us to leave five minutes after paying our bill was just plain rude. Way to ruin a great meal. Skip the place and go to a Cheesecake Factory -- food won't be anywhere as good but a college student waiter will treat you better than the "manager" of this purportedly Michelin star place that clearly was rated by someone who was treated better than we were. read more

Everything was delicious and our service was top notch. We particularly enjoyed Nancy's Favourite Trio and the Brioche Dessert was also quite amazing. Our orecchiette was bouncy but tender and had a great fennel flavour, and the wagyu was lovely. read more
