Had an unexceptional meal, ordered dessert and a giant COCKROACH from the a/c vent overhead fell from it and landed right in the middle of our dessert. The manager gave us a "free dessert". If i could give it less stars I would. This is the most dishonest place to have a any event. Trust me when I tell you they will disappoint you in the end. Either the bill will include more than the agreed or they will not honor any contract that you agree to and sign. You will be stressed out looking for a new venue and they know it. They also change employees very often. I am not surprised who wants to work for someone so dishonest. Save time, money and a headache look somewhere else for your venue. If you book here for a private event and people wonder into another area you will get charged. You will feel cheated. read more

I visited Ouisie's Table for brunch during Houston Restaurant Weeks 2015. I chose the Restaurant Weeks Brunch menu and my companion ordered a la carte. We were first brought a bread plate that had jalapeno corn muffins, ginger bread muffins and asiago biscuits with butter on the side. All of the bread options were tasty and warm which helped the butter melt for easy spreading. Next we received the appetizers we ordered. My companion was served the crab cakes and I was served the soup of the day which was Sweet Potato soup with an orange zest. The crab cakes were tasty with the ceviche they were served with. They were lightly fried but were very small. This is one of the issues I had with this restaurant was that for the price that is paid for this appetizer is way too high for the portion served. Several upper tier restaurants give you substantial crab cakes for the same price or less. The soup was excellent. The taste of sweet potato and the extra pop added by the orange zest was perfect. Main courses my companion received the Chicken Salad Sandwich with Kettle Chips and I received the Chicken Fried Chicken with Fried Egg and green beans and biscuit. The sandwich was good, the chicken salad was not soupy or dripping, the proper amount of mayo was used and the kettle chips were tasty and crispy and came out a little warm. The Chicken Fried Chicken was excellent. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the breading was tasty and complimented the chicken well. The fried egg was good and was a nice addition. The green beans and biscuit were good and rounded out this great dish. The portions for the entrees were great and I took food home. For dessert I ordered the Texas Peach Cobbler which was served warm and came with a scoop of Vanilla Bean ice cream on top. The ice cream was starting to melt when this came to me so I knew the cobbler was warm. The top was nice and flaky and large chunks of peach were used. This dessert was great and a nice end to my meal. The service is part of the reason that I could not give Ouisie's Table 5 stars. Granted my companion and I had reservations for noon on a Saturday which we expected the place to be busy. We were seated shortly after arrival. It was very busy, there were only 2 table that I could visibly see open in the main dining room and looking over to there alternate room and patio they looked equally full. The service was slow, even taking into account what I described. It took about 15 minutes before our server came to the table to take a drink order. I noticed everyone on the staff hustling and everyone from the waiters to bus boys and even the manager pitching in and trying to keep things going. Everyone was super nice and helpful. I am not sure what the solution to their problem is whether it is more man power or better efficiency between staff and kitchen but something needs to be done to speed up the service a little bit. Overall we had a good experience and the food stood out for us but to be a five for me the service speed has to improve and the price of some of the appetizers needs to come down a buck or two or the portion size has to increase. read more

The experience couldn't have been better for my wife and guests. They were helpful in the planning process, and the day of the event (a small bridal shower) everything went spectacularly. Wait staff was so helpful, especially to a couple of elderly women in the group. Food was very good and reasonably priced. Room looked great. I would use them again in a second. read more

The accolades and press reviews have long faded from the once popular Ouisie's Table, both figuratively and literally as the postings on the wall will testify. There was nothing more current than 2001, that I could see. The experience we endured provided ample reasoning why. From service to food quality there was nothing remotely attractive about our family brunch. The term "hospitality" was completely missing from the vocabulary of our server. From beginning to end, his intention was to get us in and get us out. Items were missing from our table. After a spilled glass of water was mopped up by guest's with their own napkins, the pile of wet napkins remained on the table in a heap until we asked that they be removed. A guest ordered hot tea and received a cup and saucer, teapot with hot water and a slice of lemon. When it was brought to the attention of the server there was no teabag included in the service, he remarked that someone would bring that momentarily. When the tea bag finally arrived much later, the water was barely tepid and no attempt to provide more hot water was made. The food was mediocre at best. A cup of gumbo contained some broth, about 10 large pieces of green pepper and 4 minced pieces of some kind of seafood. The Stilton salad was a plate of arugula with 3 small chunks of Stilton cheese, two long slices of pear and a handful of walnuts thrown onto the side of the plate. There was absolutely no attention to detail and no attention to the ingredients that made up the salad. Other dishes were equally mishandled: steak and eggs with dried Hollandaise sauce that sat atop the dish like a plastic cover, a crab cake that was heavily breaded and over cooked, cold waffles, and the list goes on. There was never a moment when the server inquired if we were satisfied. Small muffins were tossed onto each guest's plate at an amazing pace, as if there were a prize for completing the muffin toss in a certain amount of time. When honey or jam was requested for the muffins, the requests were ignored. It was disheartening to see a landmark restaurant turned into a third class buffet house. At the end of brunch, plates were hurriedly removed from the table in stacks and no dessert menu was offered. When a guest requested a dessert menu, the server's reply was, "I thought you wanted your checks and were leaving." The server reluctantly brought a dessert tray with items that were not at all appetizing. The most serious part of the entire ordeal was that there was a 20% gratuity added to the check automatically. It was a disgrace. Poor management is the blame. If management sets a low standard and mediocrity is accepted, why bother to go above and beyond? I will add, I also attribute part of the blame to the low-information diners who accept this kind of quality and service and do not speak up. I recently had dinner with my finance here. We had a late dinner and the restaurant was still busy around 8:30 on a Tuesday. We were able to be seated quickly, drinks made and oysters on our table quickly. The atmosphere is great and food was delicious. I have had a great lunch and dinner here now. We came here for my birthday brunch and were extremely disappointed. We live in Austin so we were looking for a brunch that served seafood seeing as we were on the coast. The service was terrible. We barely saw our server and whenever we did, it felt like we were inconveniencing her. She wasn't even the one to take our food order because she was "too busy." I understand being slammed during brunch, but she never apologized or acknowledged that we sat there for a good ten minutes ready to order until someone else was sent to take our order. We were the only two top among a sea of multi-top tables, so I guess she just saw us as chump change. Usually I can brush off bad service as long as the food is good. Unfortunately, the food turned out to be more thoughtless than the service. My husband ordered chicken and waffles and they served him a FROZEN WAFFLE! I love frozen waffles, I think they great, but they don't belong on a $17 plate. They didn't even use one of the fluffier "home-style" type, just the plain old run of the mill ego. It couldn't hold up to a breast of chicken and syrup slapped into it. The chicken was also dry and bland. I got the crab cake benedict and they somehow managed to make a crab crake taste blander than cardboard. It was accompanied by some half way cooked spinach with again, no seasoning or fat. The most flavorful thing about that dish was the English muffin, which I'm sure they had nothing to do with. I do have to give them props for the drinks. They were very good. Our server probably could have gotten another round or two out of us if she had been around. If you like paying $70-$100 for bland ass food and rude service, this is the place for you! I have never had anything but an excellently prepared meal at Quisie's. I met a friend there for lunch on 12/6. The Open Table reservation indicated the only thing available was 10:45 which is a tad early for lunch. When I arrived I was the only person in the main dining room and other parties didn't start arriving until 11:30/11:45. Seems like I should have been able to get a table for 11:00 or 11:15. The service was great early on (coffee only.) By the time my guest had arrived at 11:15 and we ordered a starter the service was deteriorating quickly. Our primary server would walk past us or close to our table observing other guests and never ask how the food was, if we were ready to order lunch or if we needed anything else. The guy with the coffee carafe was on it though. I had to flag my waiter down to place our lunch order and to get the check. That's a bit of a disconnect for me given the high quality of everything else about the experience. The food was fantastic! Eminently memorable. The Oysters Rockefeller was divine with a little bit of kick to it. The chicken fried steak completely exceeded it's reputation. Big old thing, too. The collard greens, though strangely a bit tough, were out of this world good. My guest had shrimp and grits and said they were superb. His bowl looked the dog had licked it clean when he was finished so I take him at his word. A really nice lunch visit even though the service was unimpressive. read more

When I first got to this restaurant service was on point with an older male waiter. He seemed to have left for the day after we had ordered since a girl began to wait on our table. She didn't offer more bread or beverage. I had to ask for another Arnold Palmer. When we got our food the chicken sandwich was disgusting. The bread was burnt, chicken undercooked, and the French fries were like the ones from McDonalds, cold and soggy. I would never come back here again. read more

Had Father's Day lunch here yesterday and it was not a good experience. First, we had a large group, but reservations had been made weeks in advance. We had to wait for over an hour before we were seated. We were seated for a while before being approached by our servers. Everyone was pretty hungry at this point. I ordered the grilled salmon with butterflied shrimp on a potato cake. When our food finally arrived, half the table was served. The other half was served about 10 minutes later. When I looked down at my plate, I could barely see any salmon. The piece of fish that was served was the size of my pointer and middle fingers put together. And I have small hands. It was about 3 bites of salmon. The "butterflied shrimp" were very small and NOT butterflied. They were too small to butterfly. The only big thing on the plate was the potatoe cake. It was all very bland and had the consistency of sitting under a heat lamp for a while. And my side of the table was the one that was served first. Never saw the waiter again. Had to flag another one down for another glass of wine. The manager walked through the room while we were waiting on the check and turned out the lights! How rude! Yes, it is getting to be late afternoon, but our reservations were at 1:30 and we had to wait for our table, then wait for our waiter to take our order, then wait for food, then wait for the check. Overall, bad service, bad food. Will never eat there again. read more

After hearing so many rave about this place, I was eager to try it. I was disappointed with my starter, and who can go wrong with a beet salad? I thought the citrus would add a little zest, but the grapefruit was overpowering and there was actually hardly any beets to it. It followed with the shrimp and grits, which the waiter described as traditional New Orleans cuisine. It was far from. It was topped and topped and topped with sliced mushrooms that seemed to infuse the whole dish. A far cry from what I had set my taste buds for. My friend had the parmesan encrusted trout which wasn't bad, but there are a gazillion places in town where you can go for "not bad." To top if off, at the end of the night, I walk out and my driver side car window had been smashed in and several items had been stolen from my car. Yet, parked literally 7 spaces away from the door in a lit parking lot, no one --not even the valet attendant-- saw or heard anything...not even the car alarm!?!? Welcome to River Oaks I suppose. The only reason I'll be going back will be in hopes of reviewing the surveillance video. So disappointing! read more

Easily one of the worst restaurants I've ever been in. I would not recommend this place to anyone that I care about. I used to go to Ouisie's a lot with my family and we all loved the place - but now, with them being under the management of a rude Moroccan man on a power trip, it's gone downhill completely. I have noticed this over the years and it makes me very upset. I have been in the restaurant before and overheard some of the things the managers say to the employees and about customers and, to put it lightly, was not very nice. Ouisie's is a beautiful place with such interesting culture, and I feel that the general manager there ruins it. If you ever are in there and notice all the awards on the wall and all the recognition the place has gotten - it's been from quite a few years back. It is very sad that Elouise herself does not run the place anymore, because myself and a lot of others I know believe that it would be much better if she did, or even someone in her family. I do not believe she knows how badly of a job the man she trusts to run her restaurant does. It sure is a shame. read more

My wife and I went at 10am today (Sunday 04Sept2016) for Restaurant Weeks brunch. Starters. Pecan salad was a 5. The micro crispy crab cakes weren't really crispy even though I asked for extra crispy. Not hot either. Just barely even warm. Mostly filler. Five or 10% crab at the most I estimate. Ok, this isn't Baltimore, I get it. My wife's Eggs Benedict was barely warm, only one little spoon full of hollandaise sauce, and not impressively presented. We would have asked for it to be heated up had the waiter ever stopped by between when the food was delivered and check time. Bland and flavorless selection. My short rib sandwich was very good, but barely warm. Service was minimalist. Never a stop-by to see if everything was ok. Very upscale River Oaks location, good ambiance, a piano player arrived just after 11 as we were leaving. Had to park in the outback because all close parking is blocked off for valet. Rating barely a three for my wife, but a 4 star for me when including for the upscale ambiance. Can't give a 3.5 so I'll be generous this time and go with a 4 overall rating since it's Sunday and they were getting really busy toward the end. read more

Had reservations at 7:45, decided we'd meet our friends early for a cocktail only to find out the bar was closed due to a wedding party taking up the entire main dining room. They seated us immediately, and took drink orders, but service was pretty slow due to wedding group. Further, we ended up sitting in a room with about 5 tables in it....not the ambience/atmosphere i was expecting on a saturday night (have dined at ouisies several times before). Food was good, as were the drinks when they got there. Had i known there was a wedding party, i would have gone elsewhere. Frankly, i think the restaurant either needs to shut down completely, or not host a party that fills half the restaurant. Trying to be a private party venue and a high end restaurant in town is conflicting. The irony is they are so strict about their 12-14 person wine cellar (believe have to have at least 8 ppl) yet they'll sell off main dining room for a saturday night and then take reservations for the rest of the restaurant as if everything were normal when it definitely is not. My favorite part of the evening was when the waiter said, "you can order now and get you're food in 10 minutes or you can order after the wedding party and get your food in an hr or so....last time they get a weekend reservation out of me....weekday lunch, maybe, but no more dinners. read more

Something has seriously gone wrong with Ousie's. If you enjoy cold mashed potatoes (no - not room temperature) with your chicken fried chicken. After you track down your waiter & explain to him that your mashed potatoes are cold (as in out of the refrigerator cold); he will whisk away your plate & have your complete plate reheated which will make the rest of your plate over cooked. Then he will return this plate to you without replenishing the eating utensils he took. Than you will get to get up & find your replacement fork & knife at an unoccupied table. If you are okay with having to request water for your table & being told by the water that it will get to you shortly. BTW the water showed up after we had our appetizers. if you are okay with that if drink all of that 1 glass of water; it will not be refilled. If you like to have the butter slung on your table by the guy that has the bread but he does not give you any bread until about 10 minutes later. Ousie's is a good choice for you but not us. read more
