If I could give this place 6 stars I would. The food, service, and ambience was perfection. The staff was fast and friendly. The food was perfectly cooked and so flavorful and the drinks were excellent. The pickle bento box was out of this world delicious. We brought in our own cake to celebrate a friend's birthday and they even added a candle to it. The staff was also very accommodating to me being vegan and didn't hesitate to check with the kitchen regarding the million questions I asked. I would definitely return. Would I go back? Maybe this place was decent for bar bites. I wouldn't recommend it for a place to actually go and have dinner. I went in May to celebrate my birthday, as I was told about this place and the appeal to go here was that they would have their version of a choco taco. I was disappointed to see that this was no longer on the menu... Anyways my friend and I ordered the follow to share: garlic greens with chicken added, bento pickle box, curry gnocchi, and a cheese cake Food was good it wasnt great Not a lot of chicken came with the garlic greens which was disappointing since it was an add on, gnocchi wasnt as splittable as the bar tender told us, pickle box was decent Cheese cake was by far my favorite. OyBar is probably the most pleasant surprise I have had with new restaurants lately. The entrance is facing a rather busy street but it is easy to miss as the name and door look very discreet. There is parking in the back but I chose to park on a side street. As you come in, you are given the option to be seated at the bar or a more intimate dinner table. We picked the bar. From there, the service was friendly, efficient and everything we ordered was absolutely delicious!! Like WOW!! I even forgot to take pictures. I was told the menu changes periodically. That night, I got to try the Peruvian Scallop Crudo, Miso Garlic Lettuces, Spicy Noodz, and a dish I forgot the name of but the main ingredient was Artichoke. Everything was killer!!!! This place has very impressive drinks. They wow at first glance, and the first sip can give you a peek at their depth. If only for the drinks Oy Bar deserves five stars. So how is it that they have one of the most incredible food menus in LA? You just have to check it out and explore. The cheeseburger is so good that I only eat cheeseburgers maybe once a year, and I make it Oy Bar's. The Pickle Bento box is a must, and the desserts are really big swings that can amount to something unforgettable. That's true of the whole menu in my experience. I was entertained that they mentioned to get in our food orders because the food could take a while.. which I understood since it's more of a bar than a restaurant. My friend and I finally put in our order and I swear it came out in like 20min LOL. No complaints here, we were both surprised haha. All the best dining options in Studio City aren't necessarily on Ventura Blvd because there are a handful of hidden gems within the neighborhood. OyBar is a born again oyster house now serving elevated bar food along with refreshing cocktails. They're located on Whitsett/Moorpark adjacent from the Studio City Branch Library. There's a parking lot behind the restaurant or you can park along Moorepark. This place is the definition of hole in the wall because if you miss the sign outside that says "bar", you wouldn't even think to stop in. OyBar does not take reservations and is walk-in only. You can sit at the bar but a table will be about a 30-45 minute wait depending on the day you go since it is a small space. The times my wife and I have gone for date night, we just order a cocktail as we wait for a table to open up (fyi: no espresso martinis, but el diablo is a must). The food is prepared by Jeff's Table and the menu is always different. Besides the Oy Burger, I recommend the smoked salmon yaki-onigiri because of the crème fraiche freshness. Oh and heads up, this place is dimly lit so you may be "that person" using their cellphone light to see ;) read more

Generally a nice experience here. Bartender was great as was the service, and price points are on point. Miso Garlic lettuces wasn't very good. The salmon yaki was I think is a take on lox and bagels, had a good flavor and was interesting. Burger was very tasty and also had the joutine, which I again think was a spin on pot roast. Tasty, complex and filling, though the presentation was muddled. The lighting is really bad in here and the lack of sufficient lighting really does deprive one an important sense when it comes to eating and that is seeing the food. Seemed like a good crowd. Just moved to studio city and had to check out oy bar. It did not disappoint! Its walk in only, and when we arrived there was about a 45 min wait for our party of 4. They were very accommodating tho getting our drink orders while we waited outside under heat lamps! I stuck with beer, but it the cocktails look incredible. After about 40 mins they were able to sit us at the bar. But the vibes inside are immaculate. It's like a classy dive bar where the food SHINES. Everything we ate was incredible. The burger hits and that quesadilla I will certainly be back to have again. Our bartender was super cool and knowledgeable, he even let us all try this interesting digestive they have on tap! The only thing that was weird was the food runner/server who delivered our food was a clearly thrown and upset when our bartender accidentally put in a wrong order. Not that we cared! We were happy to wait for our final dish but that server really showed her cards with how angry she was with this confusion. Definitely wasn't a big deal to us but made us feel weird... Anyhoo, I can certainly see Oybar becoming my local favorite. read more

Popped in last week for a drink with my aunt. Absolutely incredible little hole in the wall. We decided to try a few apps cause it all sounded amazing!! and it was.. everything we ate was delicious.. The burrata, potatoes, salmon nigiri, the artichokes, the scallops. We couldn't stop, it was all so good! The service was great. We were told a 20-30 minute wait but got seated within 10 minutes. Our server was attentive and nice. The crispy potatoes were really good along with the sauces. We got there before 7 PM on a Saturday and asked for an outdoor table. We were told there was one but then someone had taken it. They put us on a waitlist (2 people) and said to "be safe" they would put a half hour wait time. We have been wanting to try this place for a long time and we were coming here to celebrate a new job. My partner ordered a drink out front and we waited... and waited... and waited. For over 45 minutes they had four tables pushed together outside that were not occupied. We could've eaten in that time. And the other two tables out there were apparently done and had paid their bill for a long time but they weren't leaving and they couldn't tell them to leave. The food looked great and it looked like a very cool place but we likely won't ever go back. We understand it's hard to predict when tables will leave but insisting that the huge party was "due anytime" when we could have eaten an entire dinner in that time is incredibly rude and the staff needs to be trained better. Ruined what would've been a nice night. Also, to add, there were plenty of tables that came and went inside. And the host even forgot we asked for an outdoor table twice. Don't come here if you want any sort of good service. read more

Very good food in a dive bar. The smallish menu featured beef and pork dishes, with small plates and salads. Despite featuring veggies in some dishes, most contain meat and/or cheese, so there is little for a vegetarian or anyone avoiding saturated fat to order. The restrooms also desperately need updating--the restroom is never part of a dive bar's charm, and with the tribe and trash, theirs seems way too authentic. All that said, the food is made with care and attention, the service is great, and the vibe is pretty fun. read more

In our quest to find the best burgers in LA, we visited OyBar to try the OyBurger. Unfortunately, it was just OK, nothing special. It's too thin to be a pub burger, and it's not a smash burger--more like a cook-to-order Quarter Pounder with better condiments and a better bun. OyBar's fries are potato chunks that are served with two different sauces. Like the burger, the fries are OK, not great. The restaurant is quite dark inside, which is neither good nor bad, once your eyes adjust. Service is excellent. There's parking in a rear lot and on the street. read more

This place blew me away. I had no idea it existed until my daughter invited me here. What a Gem. They don't take reservations and it's pretty small with a long bar that has lots of bar seating. I recommend arriving early or you'll wait in line. The menu is unique, but filled with great options for vegans and meat eaters. Each dish was full flavors and uniquely made. What a fun night out! Came here on a Tuesday night right after they opened and there was a short line outside. I wasn't sure why because there were plenty of tables inside...but the bouncer (or host?) walks each group individually to their seating area. I've heard it can get bananas on weekends, but it was super chill on this Tuesday night. I've honestly avoided it for the very reason that I've heard it was super hard to get a table/long wait etc. But I'm so happy I finally got to check it out! We sat at the bar and the bartenders were SUPER friendly and nice. It's very dark and super loud inside, but it has a speakeasy type vibe. Drinks were deeeeelish. I tried the carroll gardens (with old granddad instead of rittenhouse rye) and the stay classy based off of the bartender's rec. The stay classy is a drink you could sip on all day next to a pool. So refreshing. Food was next level! We had the crispy potatoes and the new g/og burger. I would eat a bowl of that chive crème fraiche. Also came with a pickle, which earns bonus points in my book. The menu has lots of great items that are totally unique. Not sure what a pickle bento box is, but I want it (obviously I like pickles). I am looking forward to coming back and trying more of the food for sure! Great spot for a night out with friends or an intimate date. I absolutely love OY BAR!!!! Okay what an amazing place!! This spot rocks!! I also love that I got to come here in Chanukah. This spot is a Jewish / pub vibe / speak easy / dive bar?? It's so cool because it's so hard to truly describe exactly what it is. They have a full bar with signature cocktails & also plenty of amazing Japanese and Jewish fusion inspired meals. The cutest speak easy / perfect low lighting vibes with kind staff members and servers that have all the recommendations ready to go! I am obsessed with the smoked salmon bites and the the pickle tray. Everything on this menu is the best thing ever. I tried almost everything and I can't wait to come back and try it again. We had the most delicious dirty martinis & then a few bourbons. The music is a good balance and even when this place is packed, it's still a good vibe. Street parking is not too tough and it's great to have an awesome bar in the valley that serves good and unique food! I can't wait to go back to Oy bar!! read more

Very disappointed. It might have been a mistake to come here for food. It's the worst type of dive bar you can imagine: extremely loud, sticky bar, smelling of spilled beer, visibly falling apart even in the dark. Restrooms so disgusting I opted for wait to get home. On top of that, the food wasn't good! When it's overpriced and an unpleasant experience overall, it's twice as annoying. Scallops were undercooked and too salty, the confit that the crispy potatoes came with was hella spicy (I asked the server and she said it's not spicy at all). We also had quesadilla and asked if it would be possible to take the jalapeño off. The server said no and we ordered it anyway thinking we'd be able to just take it off, then she came back and said they would take it off and then another guy came and said they couldn't do it after all. Anyway, it was dripping oil and absolutely nothing to write home about. Adding a star for friendly staff (though you can't hear them anyway and have to yell everything 3 times while ordering/communicating). Unless you have a soft spot for deteriorating and loud dive bars, stay away. read more

Cool vibes, and great food that I was willing to drop the dime for. Food: 5/5 - Miso garlic lettuce: 5/5 People sleep on the power of miso I swear and this is one of those 'prove them wrong' dishes. It was so light and balanced between salty and savory. The leafy choices were so good with this too. They made me feel fancy eating that salad. - Spicy Noods: 4/5 These weren't spicy but they did have a wonderful flavor. The sauce was quite rich but not heavy. It'd be good to pair with one of the salads. - Smoked Salmon Onigiri: 3.5/5 Let's be real it's not onigiri. It's lox on top of a rice ball. Which is fine but it doesn't really hit like onigiri does. - Crispy Potatoes: 5/5 They really said crispy potatoes and wow were they. They were so crispy but flavorful and still soft on the inside. I don't know how they did it. - Wild Mushroom Salad: 4/5 You really have to like mushroom to like this. This honestly like honestly tastes like a seaweed salad. I don't understand either believe me. BUT it is good! Service: 5/5 Me and my party did not have any issues with service. In fact it was a very nice experience. We (4) were seated immediately on a thurs night at 7. I think we just got lucky. Throughout the night, several ppl answered our annoying questions. So yeah no complaints. Location - Street parking but you're in a quieter area of studio city so I don't think you'll have trouble. The vibes are cool! It gives soft speakeasy vibes. I'd go back.
