Duuuude my friends and I recently went to this PF Chang's in the north part of Austin. As a business trip we enjoy hang out together and breaking bread. In the past PF Chang's has always been one of our go to places when we're all in town. But, this visit turned out to be one of the worst visits to a P.F. Chang's I have ever been to. I grade or rank chain restaurants by consistency cleanliness and service. What else is there? We all know while we chose a chain restaurant over some thing else. Do you know what the flavor should be like the dishes that they prepare. We know we're not gonna be surprised by nuance or the chef's creativity. Having said that, our waitress was terribly forgetful. Even though she wrote down our order the wrong food was brought to the table, some food never arrived, and our drink order was constantly being sent back because they were the wrong drinks. What should've been 45 minutes to an hour in the restaurant, we spent two hours with food and drink constantly being returned. Not because it wasn't hot, not because we didn't like the presentation... But because it wasn't our food, they weren't our drinks. So, for that reason I'm rating this PF Chang's with such a low star count. read more

I told them and they took back and when it came back out it was the same but with a lot more sauce which made it worse. For $20 a plate the food should be excellent and it was far from that! Got s take out order, placed our order to pickup @8, it's Friday evening so pretty crowded, so had to wait for 20mins and we dint mind. Ordered pad Thai and Kung pao chicken with white rice and customized extra sauce and extra spicy. And I don't think they even read what we have asked, they missed white rice and Kung pao chicken was sweet chicken, guess made a mistake of asking extra sauce, it was literally soya sauce colored sweet water with two handful of peanuts and few whole red chillis that's it, we dint had a patience to go back and return so how much we could eat we ate as we are super hungry. Just don't get take out from this place, it totally sucks, horrible food after paying so much. I will admit this is not my go to spot for Asian cuisine but it was in the area and wanted something light and also a class of wine. Parking was pretty packed but it was lunch time. I was expecting a lunch special but prices didn't look any different than dinner time. I got the vegetarian lettuce wraps and to my surprise the lettuce pieces were small and I was unable to really wrap. I forgot to say no rice noodles because they can sometimes mix in with the food and are very hard (break a tooth hard). Other than that my food was fresh, hot, and what i asked for. My friends and I decided to come here since it had been a long time since we dined here. We were seated immediately for lunch and ordered the lettuce wraps. OMG they are amazing! I forgot how good they are. We all had the egg drop soup. Very good and loved the flavor of the broth. For entrees, we had the Mongolian beef, pepper steak and lobster and shrimp fried rice. They can spice up the dishes so I made sure to order mine as extra spicy. It had a kick, but nothing too spicy for me since my tolerance is high. Our server Nick was attentive and very friendly. I don't care what anyone says this place is GOOD. Yes maybe going during peak hours is not a great bet because it seemed like some of the wait staff were not on that night. However the food and service is chefs kiss. The staff is attentive. I wish I remembered her name - she was a great bubbly gal who kept referring to me and my date as friend. She was as quick as a whip and was always attentive with a smile. The food. I mean come on. My chicken and broccoli came out steaming hot and so did the brown rice. To start off with the restaurant looks neglected. The booth we sat at had an eight or nine inch rip in the cushion and the wooden table looked awful with lots of scratches across it. I could have handled both if the food had been good but it was the worst meal My wife and I have had in a long time. Really disappointing. The calamari was rubbery and over cooked. Everything else was satisfactory but not great. The atmosphere at this location is depressing. The San Marcos location was so amazing. Busy. The food was fresh tasting. The waiter was so sweet and talkative. The decor was high end. This Jollyville location was just one expensive light fixture above a cafeteria and the food tasted old or frozen. Definitely won't be back. We have been going to this particular PF Changs for the last 10 years on Jollyville rd. in Austin. I can see that it is going slowly downhill which is disappointing as we love their food and location. We went there yesterday to celebrate our anniversary and this is what I observed: 1. We had to ask for a different booth as the cushions were old and saggy. We sank down in them and the table almost came up to my shoulders. 2. Things were more dingy from when we visited a year ago. Not as clean, bathrooms needed fresh paint and caulking, the tables were worn looking. Things were just kind of grimey :( It was never like this before. Why not like this place ?? Is it the fact it's a chain that drives people away hissing like vampires in sunlight? I don't get it . The food is great for family's with kids and not only that the beers are surprisingly some of the coldest you can get in Austin , they have other drinks like a coconut cooler which is so refreshing and non alcoholic . You can always spike your drinks and the cocktails are all delicious . I get better beers in freezing cold tall glasses at PF changes than even at the Yard House in the Domain for example , which btw serves all their hundreds of beers in room temp glasses because they say " it comes out the keg at 32 degrees so why give you a cold glass . Like if most restaurants serve beer in hot kegs or something . I don't know about you but a cold or frozen glass goes a long way in my book . Doesn't have to be a determining factor wether this place is quality or not but anywhere willing to do those little extra things for the customers experience tells you a lot . On to the actual food and restaurant ,what do you expect I mean if you come here thinking your in China Town NY or the in the San Francisco BaY and get upset something is Americanized then your probably better off at Din Ho picking out a hanging duck from the front so you can snap a photo and show off your local only food lust . P.F Chang's has some good dishes that if given a chance will totally send you home full and happy you came . Keep it simple, for instance you can never go wrong with the Honey crispy chicken with fried rice and either the broccoli beef or Mongolian beef with white rice . As far as appetizers go I always get the BBQ spare ribs or the chicken lettuce wraps . These appetizers are always a crowd pleaser and can always be your main entree . Paired with a lite beer in a freezing cold glass you can't get any better. I'm not someone who drinks that often but when I do I want well made cocktails and cold glasses for my beer especially in this ridiculous heat . I also want food I'm not going to pay an arm and a leg for but that's tasty and filling . I don't want tiny little "Amuse Bouche" dishes that are great for pictures super expensive and I need several to get full off of . Once upon a time, this restaurant used to be a place that my family came to enjoy a nice atmosphere and food without the worry of chaos, disrespectful, help, and food that was never less than par. Unfortunately, that is definitely no longer the case. I have thought long and hard before writing this review. I tried on several occasions to speak with P.F. Changs management, and every time they told me what I wanted to hear and then never followed through on any of it. Last year my family and I came to the establishment and ordered food that tasted slightly off, but we figured it was just a new cook. This being said when we got home, we all became very sick. After days of fighting for the bathroom due to the nature of whatever it was that we ate. The only thing we all had in common was the fried rice. I felt it would be my duty to reach out to them and let them know of the situation. Upon first speaking to the manager at that time, they were very sorry and adamant that it was not the norm and they would do everything they could to, make things better. They asked for my information and would follow up with me. As the weeks continued to go by, I decided to reach back out. After acting like they knew nothing about what I was talking about naturally I was definitely frustrated. I rehashed the entire ordeal, and again was promised that it would be acknowledged, my money refunded and a courtesy gift card to show that they would love to have my continued business and that this wouldn't happen again. However, again I wait and nothing happens. Fast-forward several more times of calling and talking and rehashing the entire ordeal to Manager after Manager only for them to do nothing that they said they would. It's not exactly about the refund of the over $200. I spent that day with my family of six. or even the gift card. What it was about for me, was the total lack of consideration, or Karen concern for what my family went through for days after eating in their restaurant. The fact that they could act so charismatic and concerned, and in the same breath, disregard me and my family as what we went through didn't matter. Luckily, we all came out on the other end of things just fine. But now I'm angry and frustrated that one of the number one places we enjoyed eating at is one that due to principal I will no longer find myself entertaining. I think it is disgusting behavior to act one way, as if there is concern, and then as soon as the phone is hung up I am disregarded, as if nothing that we went through mattered. I will add that I did in fact, go back recently, because I was utterly craving the food there. When I mentioned the situation to the on-site manager, they acted as if they truly cared. Unlike the rest of the management that had dealt with to that point. They asked if I could provide evidence of the time, I was referring to. I told them that I could and I did. However, leary we were we set it aside an sat down to a dinner that was less than enjoyable. Again, there was issues with the fried rice, and we ended up having to send it back not once, not twice, but three times. It was undercooked the first time. The second time the chicken was so hard and dry. It was unexcused and felt very intentional. The last time, the manager went back and cooked it himself brought it out to us just right. Now I hate to be one of those people. Growing up, I worked in a restaurant with my family, and it was miserable as a kid, but taught me so much for my years as an adult, and being more understanding and aware of what not just waitresses and waiters go through but the cooks, and even the cleaners behind the scene. Due to everything we have experienced and my most recent call to follow up on things as the management asked me to do so I feel that this is a adequate reason to make sure others are informed about what they can expect these days from this establishment. Covid really kicked us all in the ass, and every day I see more and more how it's destroyed not only individual lives but restaurants, shopping centers, and everything else in between. Maybe I am allowing an excuse for the spoken issues. However, at this point, I just feel that it's the right thing to do. Just left this establishment. At one time this place used to be awesome, when Brent was the operating partner it was well run, and a great place to visit. Today it is a hodgepodge of what it used to be. The Manager is inattentive and upon arrival they want to log you in to the system. Although the place is empty and then you wait around and then look up and say your table is now ready. It's hilarious. On another occasion I placed an order for pick up. When I arrived I just sat around as nobody was available to help. When I did get helped, I was given my order in (1) one bag, and items were spilling out. When I asked for another bag as I was driving and needed to secure the food, she shrugged and huffed. She handed me the bag, then I asked for fortune cookies as they were included. More huffing, and she brought (2) two for for entrees. Then walked away. I reloaded the bags and left. I will never visit this location. This is a story all about how my life got flipped upside down!! I booked reservations for dinner to celebrate my BF's birthday a week in advance (9/4 at 7:30pm). We arrived at 7:25 and were told to be seated they would call us when our table was ready. We sat patiently for 20 minutes when a party of 5 who came in after us was seated before us. I asked the hostess how much longer would we have to wait since I did make reservations and she said we were next she was giving our waitress a break. So then she goes to seat us and the next let down was the table was dirty and the seats has brown spots (some sort of ice cream or liquid) all in the seats. I asked her to clean the area and she looked down as if she didn't even notice it and then walked off and came back to clean it. As we are sitting down we notice the party of 5 is seated in the exact same section that we are (so much for giving the waitress a "break")...at this point we are ready to just leave but our waitress CLAIRE literally saved the night! This review isn't for her...she was amazing, attentive and displayed outstanding customer service. Our food was even good so shout out to the chef!! Drinks were bomb too BUT the fact that I have never experienced service like this at this location before is unsettling. If you can't meet the reserved time then say that upfront and also after waiting close to 30 mins past time to be seated the table and chairs are not even cleaned off...not a great way to start a birthday celebration. Downtown HH options were limited today due to many private parties in the area so that led us to this location where we sat at the bar for service. At the time there were only 5 people at the bar which started off fine but quickly went downhill. When we finally received our order of pork dumplings they arrived cold....as in probably sat on a plate for who knows how long in the kitchen before they served them. The bartender was not attentive and after 15 min of sitting there we finally asked if the dumplings should be hot or cold. She stated hot. We explained they were not so she apologized and said she'd get us another order. That never happened. After 1hr we were ready to leave. We asked for our check and her only comment was that the dumplings wouldn't be included on our ticket (that's when she realized she never put the order in). Honestly after getting our first pitcher of drinks, no one ever asked if we needed anything. More staff arrived and no one bothered asking if we needed refills or more food. And this was at the bar counter! I can only imagine how much worse service attention was for anyone at a table. Disappointing to say the least. There are TOO MANY places in downtown Austin to have HH. Go ahead and skip this one. This restaurant is nothing like the PF Changs from even 10-15yrs ago. read more

When we arrived, roughly 1/2 the resturant had open tables but could not be used because they did not have enough servers. Once seated, we waited 15 min for a waitress. We then got 1 menu for the 3 of us. My wife ordered Sweet and Sour chicken, and each piece was about 1/2 batter. I ordered the short rib, and it tasted like dry pot roast. When we left, all the outside lights were off, making it treacherous for my 86 year old mother in law to walk down the steps. We decided to pick up dinner from PF Changs for our New Years/Anniversary dinner.  We ordered our food for pickup at 5:15 as we live only a couple of minutes from the restaurant and wanted a delicious hot Asian meal at home. As soon as we got the food home, unpacked the food and took the first bite, we realized our BIG MISTAKE.   It was quite obvious they had cooked our order well before we picked it up, and let it sit somewhere in the restaurant getting soggy and cold. The food was cold and devoid of flavor (bordering on disgusting). In retrospect, I suppose rather than spitting it out, and tossing what was left in the trash, we should have returned the food; however, it was a tightly planned "dinner and a movie" night and once settled at home, we were in for the night.   We have not eaten there in some time; however, we never expected this extremely disappointing experience. Made a reservation online and was seated at a table almost near the bathroom. There were empty booths but they said it was for other reservations. I don't understand why my reservation was less important than these other peoples and what I did to deserve a table near the bathroom. Maybe it's a demographics thing. I asked for peach, my friend asked for strawberry and she gives both of us peach. I explained what tempura was again and instead of her saying "hey I don't know let me check" she tries to bullshit me again with "Well we do have SHRIMP tempura" I responded with well does it come with tempura veggies?" She says "well no it's a sushi roll." Like woman I'm not asking for a sushi roll. At this point I'm pretty annoyed, and she must have gotten the hint so finally she decides to check with her manager. So if you've been to enough Chinese restaurants you would know most beef dishes are cooked in the same sauce and taste very similar. Unbelievably the worst service I've ever experienced. Seated 30 minutes after reservation. A person in our party waited 40 minutes for her drink. The ice was melted and it was awful. One of the appetizers was never delivered until we asked about it. The server finally brought us the appetizer and said it would be free but charged us for it. We were also charged for the "birthday dessert "; server said the cheesecake was not eligible. Server walked off when we were trying to communicate with her. Informed manager of issues. This is going to be a rather unusual and unique review. Because we are in a rather unusual and unique time in history. Why is it that no one wants to work. Everywhere I go I see help wanted signs, and after talking with the proprietors I find that nobody is applying because no one wants to work. My wife and I tried to eat lunch at Changs today, which was the first time we would have eaten together as a couple in a restaurant in well over a year. Unfortunately the wait would've been in excess of 45 minutes which we did not want to wait for, so we placed a take-out order. It was delivered in a short time and we took it home unpacked it and begin to eat. Unfortunately takeout food never taste as good as the food in the restaurant, so taking that into consideration we still felt the quality of food was not up to the usual excellent produced by Changs. I did call the restaurant and asked to speak to the manager who is Monica. I discussed the quality of the meal that had been produced today for us and found out that Changs has an employee problem. They are unable to hire people to work for them. They are short several key positions and that has affected the quality they are known to produce. I understand what Monica is dealing with and bless her heart, she is doing the best she can do. I will not rate Changs less than good, giving it four star rating. They are struggling because of circumstances Beyond their control. They are doing the right things to try and hire people to fill the positions, but as I previously mentioned no one seems to want to work. I gave a lot of thoughts as to whether or not I wanted to publish a review on Changs, and decided to go ahead and do it and explain some of the conditions that exist in the food handling industry today. I did not mean this to be a negative review in any manner, shape or form. Hopefully those of you who read this will understand what I'm trying to say. And it is a true fact of life today, and far, far, far from being an excuse. We understand there is limited staff right now, but get this: (1) we arrived at 1:00 (2) were told the next available reservation was 2:15 (3) this is due to limited staff (4) we were told to see if there were seats at the bar - we could sit there (5) as we walked through to the bar we noticed there were five (that's right, not making this up), FIVE tables with patrons in the whole restaurant besides a fully seated bar area.... (Sigh) we liked coming here often - this inability to think through a problem set, example: "your food may take longer due to limited staff" - but walking through the restaurant to find FIVE tables with patrons and that's it?
