Their fries make me want to ugly cry because they're so DARN GOOD. The burgers though to be quite honest are good, but I prefer other fast food burger chains (like In-N-Out). I find the patties here to be quite thin which is quite a turn off for me because I really do value a big and juicy burger (something I feel In-N-Out does give me). What I do love the most about this place is the unique retro design it has going on (as do most P. Terry's have) which makes me feel like I'm living in the 70s and makes me want to listen to Queen every time I come here, its convenient location, the prices, and honestly the food really IS good. While we were waiting in the drive thru line I noticed numerous boxes of potatoes sitting outside of their door - you have to love a place that takes the time to make fresh french fries. My wife wasn't such a big fan because she doesn't like veggie patties made from mushrooms but I would have never known. The veggie burger in my opinion is one of the better ones that you can get from a fast food joint. The fries that came with our combo were delicious. Up Lamar...down Lamar...Up Lamar....Down Lamar.... We kept getting lost trying to find where we wanted to go and everyday we were there we kept passing P. Terry's so I finally said "Hey! Let's stop by P.Terry's and see if they are any good"! This was my kind of burger, not too big and not too dry. I ordered a double cheese burger and fries and took it back to my hotel room to test it out. I was honestly mad when I got down to the last bite. Even the fries were delicious and that is hard to come by when the burger AND the fries are good. Usually you only get one or the other. You can tell they are fresh cut and not frozen. Fresh cut potatoes just fry different than frozen pre-prepared fries. I also love the retro colors and feel to this burger joint. It is very 50ish. After having P.Terry's and then reading the other reviews, I find myself not feeling the same excitement. The quality of the food was noticeable, however, it lacked the texture I enjoy in a meaty burger. I had the veggie burger and I missed the outter crisp crust that I look for in a seared beef burger. Seasoning was minimal, if at all, but I'm happy with adding on salt and pepper to my liking, which they have conveniently available on the tables. The patty, as I later read in one of the reviews , is cooked in advance and that may have been why it did not seem hot, although the cheese was nicely melted. I may be too picky. In comparison, in and out burgers allow you to taste the cool fresh veggies against the heated patty whereas P.Terrys veggie burger seemed to be one similar taste and texture. I enjoyed the fries. I like the thin cut and next time I'll ask for jalapeños and cheese on top, hopefully they will accommodate. I had the unsweetened tea, very clean tasting , just right for a picky reviewer. :) In conclusion, I would definitely go back to try the other items on the menu. I've loved this place ever since I moved to Austin. The veggie burgers are as addictive as crack. The lemonade is fresh squeezed and delicious and the fries are handcut (although some days they're better than others). The burgers are great too, though I'd recommend getting a double.. the singles tend to be a little small for some people. Be sure to check out the add-ons: wheat bun, jalapenos, onions, pickles. I haven't gotten to try the chicken burgers, but my mom loves them. I wish it were a little less expensive, but that's the price you pay for organic, local ingredients. P Terry's - there are so many great things about you. Your burgers are awesome and the fries were great! However, you can't seem to get orders right to save your lives. This time one of 2 burgers came with lettuce (we even said "Absolutely NO lettuce on these two burgers - I am ALLERGIC to lettuce"). We also ended up with 2 extra fries. Thank you - the fries were delicious, but I don't know what else we could possibly say to make you get our order right ( NO lettuce on 2 of our 3 sandwiches). I don't understand what the problem is because of the 200 times we have ordered at In N Out they have NEVER messed up our order and added lettuce when they shouldn't have or left off lettuce when they shouldn't have. Ordered Chicken burger with everything on it added jalapenos, onions & pickles with fries and DP. When the lady at the window took my card she said "you had the number 2 with a drink?" I said "I don't remember the number but I don't think it is a number 2, it is a chicken burger with everything on it and I added pickles, onions and jalapenos"... she then says "oh yes, yes its hear with a DP?" I confirmed, get back to my office and it literally only had onions, pickles and jalapenos and nothing else and the fries are over cooked to the point of hard and I was given a coke instead of a DP. How freaking hard is it to give and order and repeat it and then confirm it to only get the wrong damn order. You guys have a hiring sign up you need to specify that you are looking to employ people that give a $hit. I am 8.5 months pregnant and I have no patience for bull$hit! Especially when I do my part, did I need to put a hat and apron on and go back there and make the damn thing? I will spread the word that this place is ridiculous! I want my credit card credited for the food I did not eat, nothing was right on the order. I was not impressed. The meat that I peeled of the bun (I don't usually eat the buns) was similar to the cheap ground beef at HEB. Just so-so. I have tasted delicious black angus beef but this meat did not have the same quality of taste. Just. Not. Impressed. At. All. From what I have heard, the owner here is a fairly eco-conscientious guy and I would think he is losing sleep over the amount of gas emitted from cars waiting for his burgers. Figure it... drive-through gas fumes. How much gas is used while 14 cars wait to order and then wait for food, engine running, all day long?
