The taste isn't what it used to be but it is an Austin staple! Sometimes the fries are on and delicious and sometimes they're not. I am a pregnant woman who was volunteering for the community at the summer musical at Zilker Park. I had been working out in 100 degree heat all night, so I was naturally hungry. I went to P. Terry's with my roommate, who bought me a burger at the walk-up window at 11:45 PM. At midnight, my car was towed from the lot. I was devastated. I had no way to get home, I was left stranded and pregnant in downtown Austin. I had to call to wake up my friend out in Manor to drive a half hour to pick me up. Then, we had to drive to the tow lot to get my vehicle released. I was so upset and exhausted. I had just spent the night volunteering for my community, and I was rewarded by having my car towed. I felt like P. Terry's didn't care about my safety or my well-being. I am writing this review to warn other people about my experience. If you are pregnant, or if you are alone at night, I would not recommend going to P. Terry's. You could end up being stranded and alone, just like I was. I am also writing this review to ask P. Terry's to change their towing policy. They should not tow cars from their lot after 11 PM. This is especially important for people who are pregnant, or who are alone at night. I hope that my review will help other people avoid the same experience that I had. I also hope that P. Terry's will change their towing policy to protect their customers. read more

PTerry's has solidified itself as a consistently good burger joint. They have matched In n Out as far as simple selections, well made for a cheap price. Their burger isn't as good but the chicken burger is great (veggie burger is tasty too but chicken is the lowest fat) and especially if you can't do red meat. Add bacon and it's wonderful. Their fries are better than In n Out and they have better shakes and things they don't have (like cookies and banana bread). The breakfast is ok. The sandwich bun doesn't quite work with egg and cheese. Maybe Texas toast or a croissant? read more

Within minutes none left... most of our guests were from out of state and we wanted to introduce them to our favorite burger place in Austin. The GM Jonathan helped me out about two weeks before to iron out details and even delivered it for us which they do not do. Mr. Jonathan Armas and his crew are superstars . I visited Austin and got to my hotel (across the street). I was trying to find something to eat that was quick and easy. When I approached, the location looked like it was closed but it wasn't. The staff saw me walk from one side of the building to the next and did not gesture they were open. I left and walked back and saw people ordering. Super solid fast food cheeseburger. Patty was just right, cheese melted just so, and fresh fixins. Pleasantly surprised by their fries. On my fry scale, they are a couple notches up from In-N-Out (which are greasy cardboard sticks, in my opinion) and many notches below the perfect batch of piping hot, slightly salty ones from the golden arch. Sadly, this place has brought more and more disappointment. They are just so inconsistent and I've had some unfriendly servers. And slow. The drive-thru took 20 minutes on a Sunday night. We ordered a chicken burger on a lettuce wrap and a burger. The chicken burger came on a bun and the burger had no tomato or lettuce, even though we never asked for it off. Additionally, their tea sometimes taste awful and old. Old tea has that poison-y taste and they definitely are using it because sometimes my Arnold palmer taste horrid. And the fries. Sadly they could not save our most recent and disappointing meal. They seemed old or something because their was some fries that were hard and stale. Others too oily and too crispy, and crispy not in a good way. Sad experience. This has been my first PTerry experience and to be honest I was a little excited. I went online before deciding to come here on a Friday afternoon. I ended up deciding on the hamburger on a wheat bun with jalapeños, pickles and onions, fries and a drink. The burger was good but now WOW good. The fries were on the greasy side which helped them soak up the extra salt I added to them. The outdoor seating was nice at this location but beware of the birds. The table across from me had two girls sitting there and the birds kept attacking their table to get fries. Silly birds. There were signs posted to avoid feeding the birds. I was a nice person and didn't feed the birds even though I wanted to. I made that mistake in a town center in Auckland, NZ. Good ol' P Terry's. Can't go wrong with a double burger and fries. Wanna complete the meal? Get the shake as well. With cheap prices and good fast food, I really don't know what more I could ask for. Be aware that this place is just a drive thru. So if you want to grab a quick (but delicious) bite, stop by before you go on your merry way. Quality wise, the burgers are pretty solid. The fries might not be the McDonald's fries we all know and love, they do taste quite a bit healthier (if fries could ever be healthy). The prices are very reasonable as well. The line went pretty quickly for me, but the worker at the window had quite the attitude. A quick lunch al fresco is what you'll get at P. Terry's! If you can get one of the coveted parking spots next to the drive through lane, you can go in, order, and then enjoy your food outside on one of the many semi shaded picnic benches. We went with a group of wet swimmers after just having left Barton Springs pool, so sitting outside on picnic benches suited us perfectly. It's nice to find a place that wet people can go and not have a problem (this is a Houston person talking, I bet these places are much more plentiful in Austin). I was amazed at how pleasant it was in late July outside at 1pm. Bizarre. In the shade, it just didn't feel that hot. I guess that humidity that we Houston people feel every day just doesn't make it to Austin. Lucky them. Our food was pretty quick. The chicken burger is not a chicken breast. It is a ground and then formed chicken burger. It wasn't bad, just be aware of what you are ordering. The burgers are small, but the prices are cheap! The french fry portions are actually quite large. One order of fries can happily feed two not starving people. We also ordered the veggie burger to try. They really should rename the veggie burger the "mushroom" burger, because it has a very strong mushroom taste. It wasn't bad, just a little unbalanced. Oh, and the kids we were with loved the chocolate milkshakes. Cheap with lots of outdoor (only outdoor) seating fit our needs perfectly, but I can see where you might want to eat something and be shielded from the elements (not that it ever rains in Austin anymore). read more

Westlake location manager Erick. Cleanest restaurant I have been in since 2020. Every chair pushed in, clean countertops , floors shinning , Kitchen spotless. My old location Lamar and 34th had to quit. Dirty. Worst homeless guy naked in bathroom washing himself. Comes out and gets burger and fries out of trash across from cashier. Throws burger against the wall and then gets drink cup out of trash. Fills drink then washes his hands in the lemons at condiment stand. We love P. Terry's. The burgers are simple and classic. The ingredients are fresh and local. This means we can eat a burger and not feel like crap afterwards. The French fries are always hit or miss based on the cook, time of day, etc. they can be a bit softer, or rock hard, or anywhere in between. It's definitely their most inconsistent cook experience. The milkshakes are a treat every now and again and they're always perfect and classically simple. All in all, there's really nothing bad to say. So came to visit here because of the huge hype about it being better then In and Out (which it isn't) but I am also from the west so I guess the argument can be made that I am biased. Now that that is out of the way, the fries here were great, seasoned well and cooked well. The burgers on the other hand were a bit on the colder side. The problem I had was that we had one order that was missing a fry and we had to ask for our milk shake when we realized they hadn't given it to us. After we had eaten our food we decided to share another burger and fries. So we ordered again and when we got the bag and sat down I realized that there were no fries again... So it was more the fact that the burgers didn't seem fresh and out of the 2 orders we placed there was something missing. Have fun everyone. read more

I always hope I'll get what I ordered but sometimes that's just a pipe dream. It was delivered at the expected time and still warm enough to eat. My disappointment was in the drink order. I paid for a shake but I received a cold drink. Imagine my disappointment and not just that I overpaid by 75 cents but that I have iced drinks in the house but not ice cream. Wow this business is in cahoots with Austin Express Towing. They have a team circling the lot waiting to pounce on unsuspecting people who don't see the tiny sign that says P. Terry only and park there accidentally. We came out from dinner at Carpenter Hall and 6 cars were locked with a boot and we were all stranded because they only take cash. Could they have a larger sign so people notice? Could they have a sign at each parking space that says P Terry only? Could they have someone there warning people off before they park? Sure they could, but they don't. Probably because a significant portion of this restaurant's revenue is kickbacks from Austin Express Towing. If this was about ensuring there is enough parking space for customers then they would implement any of the above solutions because locking cars into a boot and waiting until people go get cash and come back to unlock the car means more wasted time and less parking spots for customers. I will definitely never be coming to P Terry's for any meal, ever. read more

Absolutely one of the best burgers I've ever eaten -- the meat was juicy and the toppings fresh. I am also usually not a fan of natural cut fries but these were just perfect, somewhat crispy without being too hard. I'm The fresh squeezed lemonade was tart and sweet without tasting like syrup.
