Cute little shop. The typical open wall seating into the counter. One barista was working so the service was slow but it's San Diego, what's the rush? She was very friendly and did her best to not make the customers wait long. One suggestion would probably be.. take all the orders in a row at once then make them in batches. Instead of make 1 sale then make the order. It's not as efficient. Anyways, they have a variety mocha flavors on their menu. It's basically flavored with syrup with chocolate whip cream! I ordered the almond joy and could taste mostly coconut, the mudslide was as expected. I wouldn't order the croissant sandwich again, it was a basic small piece of croissant (not toasted) with mustard or mayo if you choose, and turkey avocado. I stopped in for a cup of coffee and a small bite to eat before hitting the board walk. I ordered a Cafe au Lait and a house made breakfast in a puff pastry. The Cafe au Lait was good. It was smooth and had good flavor. The breakfast pastry came with a single egg, bacon, and some cheese all baked inside a light golden brown pastry shell. It certainly is a novel ideal and the pastry shell was very well baked, but the single egg inside was over down which made the yolk on the dry side.The egg would of benefited from a little seasoning as well. The bacon was tasty and crispy but the cheese was hardly noticeable and what was, had congealed already. I'm not sure if that was what they were going for, but more melted cheese would of been great. I think this little pastry gems would be better served if the eggs were pre-scrambled in a bowl but not cooked, and then baked to a fluffy consistency inside the pastry with cheddar cheese oozing out of the top of the pastry. Then keeping that terrific bacon and the breakfast pastry would be just grand. The breakfast pastry is no doubt a great idea. Service was very down to earth and friendly. I can tell that the place is certainly a favorite spot for many locals. Oh yes, they do not offer Wi-Fi which is a small bummer if you are in need of it for what ever reason. read more

For the price (about $6.50 after tax), I expected fresh coconut shreds or more of a chocolate flavor. Flavor was slightly icy and diluted. The chocolate whipped cream was rich and delicious. Probably would not pay to try another blended drink from here. The store itself is cute with some inside and outside seating and just steps from the beach. Casual and nice customer service. It's a convenient location in PB directly across from the pier, which is why we stopped in after walking a few miles along Mission Beach. It's tiny, of course, and there are only a few tables and chairs. When we stopped in they weren't busy, but still hadn't bothered to clean off the tables outside so we took our drinks to go. Asked for green tea and was told they didn't have any. Odd. Never have been to a coffee shop that doesn't have green tea. Had an almond milk latte that was pitiful. For nearly $5 it was a complete waste of money and ended up in the garbage after a few sips. Maybe this explains why they are known for super chocolatey mochas.. to hide the subpar coffee taste? Either way, I'll be finding a different coffee spot next time and avoiding this tourist trap. read more

It's tiny with barstool seating looking out onto the street, which is a culdesac entrance to the Pacific Beach Boardwalk. Excellent people watching. Good amount of seating. Downside is I didn't see a restroom inside. And parking is a pain sometimes, but it's definitely worth it. There's a super long list of mochas. I have never even thought of mixing some of the flavors they had listed. I ordered an iced raspberry torte mocha. It came with chocolate whipped cream. That is what made the drink even better! One of PB's lesser known coffee shops, but a great one to check out while at the beach. Cozy little spot between the beach and Mission. Some seating inside and out for couples and small groups. This place used to be the absolute best coffee in pacific beach. Now, it's horrible. The short white guy that helped me seemed totally clueless and tweaked out. I ordered an iced drink and received a luke warm drink that didn't have even a single ice cube in it. The flavor and quality is nothing like what the old ownership used to provide. A woman employee also walked in and was all scabbed up picking her face and touching everything in the preparation area and back after scratching herself. Great place any other day I came but today! Just because I ordered a dirty chai doesn't mean I wanted it with dirty hands preparing my drink. The barista was picking her acne/lesions and wiping her forehead while I was ordering. A complete Turn OFF! One of the biggest issues people have with Pacific Beach, and really all the beaches in this area, is that it's so darn chilly. Seeing as that's the case, it's pretty brilliant for Pacific Bean to be located just a stone's throw from the beach, offering up delicious cups of hot coffee and comforting treats for the wind worn traveler. They are famous for their mochas here, with about 30 to choose from, so since that's already my favorite blended coffee it was an easy choice for me. The real difficulty came in deciding which to get... so I went with an old standby, what they called a Mayan, with Mexican chocolate and cinnamon syrup. I also picked up one of their Nutella and chocolate chip scones, fresh baked that day by one of the employees. Wow, it's rare to find a barista as fabulous as Peter. He is the owner and entrepreneur of this rare gem of a coffee house. I consider myself somewhat of a java aficionado. Outside of Firenze, my favorite espresso restaurant is any three of the Vivace cafes in Seattle. Peter's pour was similar. His selection of roast, the perfect machine, the temperature of the coffee and steamed milk, and his presentation made for a perfect espresso macchiato. I failed to mention that he was closing and we mentioned to him that we were in search of espresso and asked him for the nearest espresso cafe. I came here because of all the good reviews. I ordered the Aloha mocha and it was just okay. That's a white chocolate and macadamia nut mocha. Sounds amazing, but tasted just like the stuff I could get at McDonalds. I got it blended. The owner is really nice though. He said if I didn't like my drink, he could make me another one. I didn't want to be a pain in the butt though, so I kept it. Expensive though. I paid $6 (added $1 for tip just because Peter is really nice). Next time, I'll just go to Starbucks. read more
