I've been here several times while I was in school. I think of the options for Chinese food, this is one of the better ones on Campus. It definitely trumps Village Wok with better bang for your buck than Tea House and much better service than Hong Kong Noodle. The food is mostly good, although I think sometimes they screw up. Last time I was here we had Peking Duck and instead of the normal buns it comes with, they served it with a tortilla! Weird! The hole that was left by the moving of Peking Garden has been plugged by Pagoda. Sure Hong Kong Noodle is fantastic but sometimes you want room to .... you know move your arms. I've been there a few times to order off their massive menu which you'll surely find something you enjoy but the pride and joy of Pagoda in my eyes is their dimsum. Hit it on its peak time and you'll be rewarded with all the standards done right, if you end up showing up later they will without issue put in orders for specific items you're looking for. Bobba tea is available as well but I've never tried it, I beleive they also have baus handed down from the local bau Gods (Keefer court) for a marked up price if you're having a craving on campus and the alternative isnt open. The wait staff is very friendly (last time I bs'ed with an indecisive dim sum cart guy about whether or not he liked the movie Skyline), the service is fast, the food is fantastic, the price while a tiny bit more than I remember Peking being is still very reasonable and the location is great. Remember there's parking in the back but dont exactly depend on it. 5 Guys being next door they've taken more spots up in an already limited lot. Dont get caught there or in the McDonalds lot or you run the risk of towing. Thankfully street parking isnt too much of a nightmare most of the time. I love Pagoda but this time I ordered it through Yelp / Grubhub and my order never came. They said it was because I chose pickup instead of delivery. I know for a fact that I kept hitting delivery because I didn't have a car to pick the order up. Not sure where the mix up was but I will probably stick to Bitesquad and Doordash. So it's now 1:40 and I'm starving. After chatting with Grubhub I was told the restaurant would credit back my card. I would have given this place 3 stars however, I feel like every time I go, I'm rolling the dice on whether the food is good or bad. They need to work on their consistency! Went to Pagoda for the first time last night with some friends and can honestly say I am not disappointed. The place is clean and decor is simple, nothing extraordinary but it is still a nice place. Though the fresh lobster and crab in the tank was pretty cool :). Staff was friendly and prompt. We didn't have to wait too long for our food nor did we have to wait long for the staff to serve us, fill our drinks, etc. My friends and I got the cheese wontons, veggie rice noodles, vegetable combo, lobster, pea tips, and some meat dish. As someone who eats mostly like a vegetarian, this place has very good vegetarian options and of course plenty of meat and seafood. Our food came with a nice big fresh bowl of white rice. I would say my favorite dishes were the pea tips and the tofu from the vegetable combo. The pea tips combined with the rice and other dishes was really tasty and fresh. I think it was flavored with garlic. Portion sizes are decent as are the prices. I plan on coming back but wouldn't eat here regularly since on dish is about $10 on average. Dinner (NOT Dim Sum) for a table of 10 adults, 1 kid, 2 babies...yes we all fit at the round table...you definitely have to be comfortable with each other to eat thisclose to the person next to you. LOCATION: Dinkeytown...difficult to find a parking space, but after a few loops around the block, we finally found the entrance to the parking lot behind the restaurant. Mind you, we are not from this area. So, perhaps a sign would help? ATMOSPHERE: Much bigger inside than it looked from the outside. I liked seeing the duck and pork belly hanging behind the glass warmer. Not too busy, but filled up quickly through the evening. FOOD: Variety was fantastic! Something for everyone! I really enjoyed the salt and pepper chicken wings from the appetizer menu. There was some pork belly too I believe and a lot of people at the table were big fans of that. Some foods were a hit and miss because they were either too oily or too spicy. We also had the roasted duck and that was very nice as well. Boba Smoothie drinks were buy one get one free. Can't mix flavors though...bummer. If you ever go somewhere that DOES allow you to mix, you must try strawberry and lychee!! That has been one of the best combos I've tried. SERVICE: Friendly and patient. Some of us took a really long time deciding what to order, they were very accommodating and didn't mind coming back a few times...I think. I'm on the fence about the food here. What I really like is the attentive and friendly service, usually non-existent in similar ethnic restaurants. I've had the lunch special here, pretty average and the red pepper in the entree was past its expiration date. Pagoda serves a large variety of dim sum on weekends. Worth a try: shrimp chives, shrimp scallop, tofu skin and shrimp cilantro dumplings for example. Fried dim sum items are often cold and they reheat it but who wants to eat reheated food at a restaurant? They have my favorite pu-erh in their tea selections. read more

I have to say that out of the shitty places to eat in Dinkytown, this is one of the less shitty. It's not amazing by any means, but it gets the job done. I've come here quite a bit with differing groups of friends and I always order the kimchi rice bowl because it's hard to eff up rice and kimchi. I did have a pretty excellent seafood hot pot once, but lately I only end up here with the cracker crew and they don't jive so well with tentacles. The staff is always very nice and is generally attentive, which can be rare in busy college restaurants. They also have karaoke booths, but I think that you will have to be able to speak Chinese to enjoy any of the songs. read more

The food was the meh. It wasn't disgusting, nor was it to die for. I wouldn't really go out of my way to dine here, especially since other great chinese restaurants are in the area. I agree with everyone though...the food is just a tad overpriced. The interior is nice though, and it never seems to crowded like some of the other local chinese restaurants. They also gave a nice happy hour on Wednesdays and Thursdays. But in the end, I'd rather just hit up Schuang Cheng, Village, or Hong Kong for my favorite dishes. read more

I ordered food through the BeyondMenu app which I've been using for a while to great success with other restaurants. My phone number has been consistent and stayed the same on that app since day one. I ordered from them tonight and was given a 35-45 minute wait time for delivery. An hour and 20 minutes later I get a phone call telling me from the store that the driver had called 5 times and the store tried as well. My phone had never rung before that. The store said they would call the driver and send him back. The driver then called me and when I answered the phone, he responded with a very rude "oh so now your phone works?" I had told him about my phone never ringing and he said whatever. He already made it back to the restaurant and would be another 15 minutes to get back to me with what I can only assume after an hour and 35 minutes would be cold food. I told him not to both as I would order from some place else. Missing phone calls because of a thunderstorm is not uncommon. Responding to a customer, and someone who will tip you, with a very sarcastic and rude response, will not gain you regular customers or good reviews. The store and person that called me from there was very understanding and nice. I hope the driver gets reprimanded for his comment and his snarky attitude. Their happy hour is bomb. Especially... if you like sake bombs... two for one bottles of everything. Their happy hour is great too. Spicy wings are not actually that hot but taste great and for the double order for one more dollar during happy hour... get it and go. Pretty authentic tastes from what I know of Chinese cuisine and dim sum. Their hotpots are pretty bomb, and one of the only places I know that you can get it here in the cities. A great spot for large groups and small groups a like. I appreciate how sometimes they separate the smaller groups from the larger ones by the area next to the window. Staff is always helpful and friendly. Another reason I like pagoda a lot is because it doesn't quite have that "dingy" feel. This is not something racist... as I would then be a self hating Asian... but some Asian joints give you that feeling. I dont really know how else to explain it. Back when I lived near Dinkytown, the opening of Pagoda was quite the hullaballoo. "An Asian restaurant? With a liquor license? And open until 2AM?" Suffice to say, I had high hopes. I went there with my husband maybe four or five months after they had opened for a Sunday morning brunch. After going over the excessive menu - no menu needs more than 400 items - we settled on a variety of dishes. Salt and pepper quail, fried rice, black bean chicken, and a pork with garlic sauce. As a side note, it really drives me crazy that they really lacked a single nationality represented in their food. Kim chee, pho, and General Tso's chicken, at least in my mind, do not belong on a menu together. As we were ordering, the waiter chimed in a few suggestions. Usually, I'd be affronted at this, but he seemed genuinely concerned that we wouldn't like one of the other six preparations of quail. Right he was! I think the quail was the only decent thing we tried. The food was so hit and miss. The rice was bland and colorless; the pork with garlic was some boiled pork with a weak, watery garlic sauce, and my chicken was divided up with no regard to bones or cartilidge. Crunch! This is the best place to go for lunch! They have some excellent lunch specials for cheap. It is popular with a lot of the Asian International students, too. I'm not really a connoisseur of asian foods for the most part my palate is pretty bland and I stick to the predictable things like sesame chicken. But this place has a great variety of food options. Next time I roll around I'm going to dive in for a hot pot, which is always fun. I do appreciate that Pagoda's food has a fresh feeling. The fried rice is really lightly fried with egg and I love that I don't necessarily feel like I've inhaled a bucket of grease after eating at this establishment. When mentioned it to the waitress, we were told it's the owner's dog. Then we were told that people bring in service dogs. We advised them that this dog was not a service dog and left. First of all, if some of you want considerably better dim sum go to Mandarin Kitchen in Bloomington or Yangste in St. Louis Park (best). Or better yet get great dim sum in San Francisco or Seattle. About Pagoda - this is pretty darn good dim sum. Above average for Midwestern dim sum. I liked just about everything I tried and was smitten with the deep fried spicy squid. The service was quick and the people were friendly. No problems at all. My concern was the lack of variety (which is available at my favorites) plus I felt the barbecued pork buns were a little bready (not as light as the best) and the shrimp dumplings were a little chewy. Maybe both were not as fresh as usual since I came at noon on a Saturday and it was pretty dead. Maybe they have more variety on Sundays too - for instance, shrimp rice noodles but no pork or beef rice noodles. I am told that the reason to go here is the "all you can eat with mimosas" dim sum weekend special. Sounds fun. I'll bring a group next time. One major warning. Dinky town is a great place to get your car towed. I misread the Pagoda parking sign and went to the right instead of the left. I parked 20 feet from the legal parking lot and my 30 minutes cost me $260! Plus an Uber ride up to North Minneapolis. Be very careful. read more

Dim Summmmm! I called to reserve a table for a party of 8 on a Sunday morning. The place was empty when we arrived (assuming the dinky-town crowd is still nursing hangovers at this time of day) but all the food was ready & hot! Worked out great because we got first pick of everything. Modern interior, good service with parking in the back. Great dumplings, full congee cart, fried cart, and additional dishes of meat and vegetables available for ordering. We got so much food! But all-in-all the prices were really reasonable. There is also a 20%discount on food before 11am. I've only ever had dim sum at Mandarin kitchen in bloomington, and while it was good the place was so packed there was a line out the door and we didn't get to see all the possible carts. So next time I'm in the mood for Dim Sum I'll be heading back to Pagoda. (Also the rest of the menu looks good so I'd like to give that a try sometime) read more

Pricey and catered towards Americans, which is understandable since it's smack in the middle of college town. My family came here for dinner and the food came out very quickly (within 5 mins of ordering). The Szechuan entrees (couples beef and maps tofu) were pretty spicy but you can ask them to lighten up on the chili oil. We also had the eggplant, and that was cooked well but was pretty oily. Avoid the brisket noodle soup though, that had no flavor. They charge tea by the cup. I also saw signs for bottomless sake and all day happy hour on Wednesdays and Thursdays. They also have dim sum but my cousin informed us it's not worth it; the food isn't great and they charge $3-4 per dish. We tried this place out for take out over the weekend. First things first, they get a gold star for having both tom yum soup and hot and sour soup...and they arrived to our house both very hot which is awesome, no extra microwaving. Both soups were delicious and spicy...which is good in my book! The cream cheese wontons were okay...nothing except cream cheese and wonton which is kind of boring. The pan seared dumplings were also just okay...I've had better other places. We also ordered mongolian pork (which they glady switched out the beef for pork) it was awesome! Tender meat, lots of veggies and spicy! We tried the beef with chinese broccoli, good sauce and great meat, very tender. We also got the chicken lo mein which was just okay...I think we'll try the fried rice next time. My favorite dish was the yellow chicken curry hot pot...it was delicoius and very flavorful! Went to Mandarin Kitchen and found they don't have Dim Sum on weekdays, so off we went to Pagoda Dinkytown. Delicious! $7.50 for a foot-high pile of your 5 picks. Gourmet chinese, not your usual sweet and sour, including lotus root. Dim Sum -- you name it, fresh made to order. Poofy BBQ pork balls, octopi, squid, shrimp, veggie, samosas. If you're into the drinking variety, they have all you can drink Mimosas for brunch and sake freezes with mango. Very yummy! All to order day or night, weekday, weekend. Everytime I want to eat a lot a lot a lot , I will come to pagoda and order hotpot all you can eat $29.99 so I can eat as much as I can. However I hate their sauces for the hotpot so I dipped meat in soy sauce. The music at pagoda is always popping. Delicious food and nice music. read more

One of the best ethnic restaurants in the whole Twin Cities. I say Ethnic because you can find Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Americanized Chinese on the menu, and probably more that I don't recognize. I love the sizzling rice bowls. Get one with egg, they are wonderful. Also good is the jellyfish app, the avocado smoothie, the hot pots, and all of the seafood I've tried.
