We love Pane E Vino and tonight was another wonderful experience shared with a friend eating here for the first time. FOOD: Two starters, Fried Calamari with aioli dipping sauce, and Beef & Pork Meatballs (3 pcs). Followed by our entrees; Lasagna with "housemade" bechamel, cheeses and Bolognese and topped with fried spinach, a Piggy Pizza (sausage, bacon, pepperoni, mozzarella and tomato), and a Prosciutto Pizza (tomato, mozzarella, arugula, and parma ham). Everything was seriously delicious! SERVICE: Now, no business runs perfectly all the time, but a sign of great service is how issues are handled when they do come up. Mark and his staff certainly handled things well tonight. No need to even bring it up, Mark's staff recognized the situation and Mark took care of it immediately, to our complete satisfaction. Came here for date night and it was an absolute lovely experience. Our waiter Paul was hilarious and recommendations he made were outstanding. So far my favorite Italian restaurant Pane E Vino does not miss a beat. I've been coming here for years now food & quality is amazing. The wait here can be pretty long at times but they always remind you food is made from scratch so you know they're cooking with passion back there. My go too is the lasagna, saffron arancini, & burrata all delicious dishes with tons of flavor. Don't be fooled by the size or location of this spot I've been to fancy Italian restaurants such as Rothschild's Restaurant & Aruffo's Italian Cuisine & still don't compare to Pane E Vino. I highly recommended this restaurant to anyone especially if your with a date! read more

So, the chef goes a bit heavy on the salt in some dishes. We had the crispy calamari, which everyone noticed was salty, but it was still good. They just need to lighten up on the salt and it will be even better. We also had the squid ink pasta, a margherita pizza, the Italian chorizo fennel sausage pizza (but without jalapeños), chicken pesto ravioli, chocolate cake, and cannolis. The best dish for flavor and texture was the chorizo pizza-- the crust was crisp and bubbly and the fennel was aromatic. The margherita pizza was a bit awkward because you take the first bite and the whole slab of cheese is pulled off. 3 out of 4 of us liked the squid ink pasta, especially the cream sauce, but it was a rather small portion and the shrimp were small/ugly or perhaps just shreddy chunks-- I couldn't tell. Basically, that dish could be presented better. The ravioli was a hit- everyone loved it. The desserts were alright but not the highlight of the meal. It was my first time having cannoli and I thought it was too sweet. I preferred the chocolate cake. We had reservations on a Friday at 6 and they upheld them and the service was excellent. Pane E Vino added an awning & lights to their storefront, and in my opinion, it made all the difference in the world. To be honest, I hadn't noticed the restaurant since its opening 8 years ago, but during the pandemic, the slight addition of the aforementioned changes recently captured my eye, and I FINALLY had the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful dinner last night (06/10/2022) alongside my daughter, mom, and grandmother. It was amazing! Our lovely waitress (Makayla) was amazing too! The ambiance is warm & reminiscent of a cobblestoned street, lined with restaurants in Venice, Italy. We had a bottle of red blend, Crostinis, Burrata, and their bread basket with vinegar and olive oil. Not one of those items disappointed. In fact, they exceeded what I imagined for an Italian restaurant in Covina! My mom had spaghetti & meatballs, my daughter, the seafood pasta special, and I enjoyed a bowl of Farfalle. For dessert (which was free to us as first timers) we had the 3-layer chocolate cake and the ever-so delicious Affogato "drowned" Al Cafe! My fiancé and I placed an order for pick up. We ordered the pasta farfalle, the Calabrian Chili Pizza, the caprese as an appetizer with the cucumber salad. Once I opened the bag to open our food items I immediately noticed it seemed as if someone had eaten half of the pasta Farfalle due to the fact that there was barely any pasta in the container. The pasta was very bland and nothing special. I really could not believe how little bit of pasta was served. It was absolutely ridiculous. The cucumber salad as well barely had any salad (about what would be considered 1/4 of a full salad). I was sad the salad had the smallest sprinkles of feta cheese and I could barely taste it. The salad was mainly lettuce. The pizza was very small and the crust was burnt. There were barely any ingredients on the pizza and it was honestly nothing special at all. The caprese was probably the best part, however, the prosciutto was extremely salty and I like salt but it was just way too much. Phoned in before arriving. The guy was rushed and I could barely get in a word, but he put my name down on the waitlist. Guy hung up on me before I could ask my second. This should've been the red flag in hindsight. I'm spoiled by the Italian restaurants that have handmade noodles. You can't get better than handmade noodles. And if you don't have handmade noodles, then everything else needs to be amazing in the dish. So, when the simple bolognese spaghetti price starts at $18, I'm expecting to be wowed. I was saddened by the entrees. I think they use a wine reduction and it was too strong. Saltiness is subjective, and I'm sensitive to salty food. My first bite of the bolognese spaghetti required a drink of water. My second bite had me thinking that I couldn't eat more from how salty it was. When I took a drink of water, I had the taste of the ocean in my mouth. By my third bite, I was done and ready to throw out the entree. That seems harsh, but it was that dissatisfying. Oh yeah--there was barely any pasta sauce. The pizza was good. A few slices had a few pieces of meat, unfortunately. It was the sausage pizza and there was probably like one to two pieces of sausage on half the pizza. I didn't even know that complimentary bread was provided until I saw a couple who was sat about 5 mins after us immediately receive their bread after being seated. The bread they served was not warm. Not sure if that's like a traditional method to not warm the bread? The flavor was ok. Service felt rushed, too. I looked around other tables and I really wanted the other server who took the time to check in on their tables. Our server was ready to leave us before we could finish a question or order. The worst part was that she never came back to our table. Actually, even worst, we were the people who were looking at other servers to help us and were blatantly ignored by the other servers. We had to get the to-go boxes and ask for the check ourselves at the register after being ignored. I've worked in fast-food and the service industry, so I get it when you're bogged down with customers and understaffed; I'm very patient when I'm being served in restaurants. Our service here was sub-par and neglectful. And we left very thirsty. For all these reasons, we tipped only 15% and will never return. Plus, if you don't make your noodles from scratch, that's fine. The answer I was given is that it happens seasonally or for seasonal specials? And it took a few seconds for that answer to be given. A little suss. Ambiance was nice, but the music was too loud. Lastly, apparently you can't request to sub spaghetti for pappardelle pasta, even for an extra charge. read more
