I want to recognize two exceptional employees at the Panera Bread in Downey at the Promenade for providing outstanding customer service during my visit today around 1:45 p.m. When I first approached the counter, I was interested in learning about some of the new menu offerings. Unfortunately, the team member taking my order was not very helpful and seemed uninterested in answering my questions. As a paying customer, I left feeling that he could benefit from additional customer service training, particularly in creating a welcoming and informative experience. Thankfully, my experience completely turned around because of Berenice. She noticed that I seemed unsure while ordering and later came to my table to check on me personally. She had recommended a drink for me, and it was absolutely delicious! More importantly, she genuinely cared about whether I was enjoying it and took the time to make sure I was satisfied with my meal. That level of attentiveness, initiative, and hospitality is rare and deserves recognition. I would also like to acknowledge Emily, the manager, who took the time to stop by my table and check on me as well. It speaks volumes about her leadership that she makes an effort to connect with customers and ensure they are having a positive experience. Berenice is truly a standout employee and an incredible asset to Panera. Emily's leadership and commitment to customer satisfaction are equally commendable. Employees like these are the reason customers return. Thank you both for turning what started as a disappointing interaction into a wonderful dining experience. Tried the turkey deli sandwich and Italian sandwich. Both were on the saltier side. The bread of the Italian sandwich was delicious, crunchy and warm. The turkey sandwich tasted fantastic heated up. It melted the cheese and basically turned into a turkey melt. The chips are a perfect companion to the sandwich and the chocolate cookie was soft, sweet and a scrumptious treat to end the delicious meal. I highly recommend either. I had never been to a Panera bread before and became an instant fan the moment I tried it. Had the Ciabatta Cheese steak with the bacon mac and cheese. The meat on the sandwich had an enjoyable slightly smoked flavor I wasn't expecting and the mac and cheese was just okay. A bit dry and bland. Been here a few times since and noticed the food has been consistent, which is always appreciated. I have also have tried the Ciabatta French dipper. The meat is well seasoned and tasted slightly smoky. Tasted very close to the Cheesesteak minus the onions. The Chicken Bacon Rancher was pretty good. Balanced flavors. The Toasted Italiano was decent. It was lacking a bit in protein and also I just prefer the Italian cuts cold. The spicy fiesta chicken was decent. Some sauce would have gone great on this. The Smokehouse BBQ Chicken sandwich was decent. Sweets sandwiches are usually a miss for me with a few exceptions. The Bacon Turkey Bravo needed more protein and flavor. Liked the sandwiches listed in order from favorite to least favorite with the ciabatta cheese steak at the helm and Bacon Turkey Bravo last. For the soups I've also tried the French onion. Thought it was flavorful and just the right amount of sweet. Then I'd place the bacon mac and cheese right below that. The hearty fireside chili wasn't my fave, lacked flavor and was on the sweeter side rather than savory. The chicken noodle soup was my least favorite as it tasted the blandest. The customer service and quality of their ingredients have been good. The food is a bit pricey with a relatively small side of soup costing you about 8-9 dollars, though it is enjoyable enough to swing by once in a while on a cold night. Half sandwich/half soup meals always hits the spot. read more

Ive been here more than a few times for the walnut chicken salad sandwitch. A couple times the lettice was not fresh so I removed it. Today I ordered with no lettice and the tomatoe wasn't fresh. 1 star due to being staffed and still not hitting the mark. As we checked into the iPad there was no table pagers to assign our meal to. My meal sat on the place to grab for 15 min soon after my husband got up and checked. They didn't call our name and our name wasn't displayed on the tablet. If you want to see a high end Panera Bread, check out this place, got a huge entrance building outside with a different logo design on the top, has a big drive thru. Inside was clean and spacious, and I will tell you how to rate each Panera by only looking at one thing, the Monin Syrup bottle, make sure it's next to the drink counter not the back of the kitchen, and if it's full, you know what's up :) meaning they refilled it, and they trusted to leave it out for the public to use since it wasn't cheap. That's all I can say about this place, I must have missed out Downey, because it was good, it looked good, and the people in the dining area seemed to enjoy it as well. read more

Panera Bread used to be one of those healthier staples around for my little family. The food and service has gone downhill tremendously at locations everywhere, but especially at this Downey Promenade location. I'm going to take a cue from our commander-in-chief and inform you to "lower your expectations" before eating here. Lol. While service was friendly at the register (11/3/21), I had to remind the young lady to redeem my child's free meal that she received as a reward from her teacher. When I didn't order a drink for myself, she kindly offered a cup of water which I declined. Much appreciated, though. Service at the food counter where we took our pager to retrieve our food was totally unfriendly. The restrooms were not too swell. The soap dispensers in the women's restroom are both at one sink and only one apparently works, then the automatic faucets don't work well for children. Last disappointments for this chain that should have its act together... the tables weren't wiped down and the soup spoon they placed on my plate still had old food stuck to it. Gross! My "pick 2" Goddess cobb salad with chicken ($7.09) had quite a few old, browned lettuce pieces. I got it with a cup of autumn squash ($4.99). The portions all seemed slimmed down compared to recent years. I don't care if the majority of it's pre-made! Extremely dissatisfied. I ordered a turkey sandwich I specifically said no tomato and that's great they took it out but still gave it to me with a sauce that contained tomato. I called to speak to manager and she said it's based on tomato paste "high allergy " is what I said her answer alone was extremely disappointed. This is someone's life, well being and she cared absolutely none !! Her answer was I'll let my staff know , no sympathy. This place has gone down hill! It was my favorite go to pace here in Downey but i no longer go there u less i absolutely have to and i make sure i let my friends know they should not to go there! Place is filthy. I have gone there 5-6 time to get coffee this year and a bagel and every single time i have to clean the table and the chairs, i cannot clean the floor and the sticky "stuff" on the floor. The coffee station has sugar everywhere and sticky because of the half and half spills (i have to go to the restroom and get a wet towel to clean it. I pulled up into the panera drive thru, which was fast friendly and efficient, placed my order, and once we drove up to the window, my green tea was passed to me and maybe less then one minute my order was given. 15 minutes or so I arrived home and my soup was very well packaged at the bottom of the bag then layered with my friends sandwich and my salad. This Panera focuses in on their wholesale big buck spending clients, while ignoring the little guy. Any question you may have regarding your meal will be met with a stern grimace and a menacing scowl. This Panera and their staff are not friendly, are not helpful, and will blame the customer (you) if the kitchen messes up on your meal. Panera app is not up-to-date, the Panera app can say that baguettes are not available, yet baguettes are available. The Panera app will not let you request a baguette via Panera app if the app thinks that there's no baguettes in-store when there really are baguettes available. Not the staffs fault, but the staff here will meet any question or suggestion with a stern grimace and an unfriendly menacing scowl. Panera, please fix your app, please train your staff to update the Panera app. Don't know how the Panera app system updates or interfaces, but please don't wait until your customers start realizing that the Panera app is in LaLa land in regards to what's available at the Panera store. I ordered Broccoli cheddar soup and found plastic in it. I called concerned about them serving it to others. They did offer me to get a Broccoli Cheddar soup in the future, so I waiting a few months before I went back and gave them another chance because I mean it could have been an honest mistake. Today after months I went back and found plastic on my broccoli cheddar again. When I started eating it, it tasted a bit off but kept eating it. All I thought about was it had a bit of a plastic taste to it and then I found a piece of plastic again. This is not okay by any means. They are feeding us plastic. I've never Yelp before but I'm not okay with having consumed this twice and giving them the benefit of the doubt the first time. I've been to Panera many times. Food is pretty good. I went yesterday and the location was dirty, the floor was dirty and I asked for someone to clean the table. It wasn't that busy. Cashier was very nice. Food was good, it's so expensive for the portion size. I spent over 40 dollars on a pick 2. My half sandwich was tiny, I also got a bowl of soup and a full sandwich. Soup is delicious. They also didn't have drinks available; I had to request a strawberry lemonade. It wasn't even late. This is the reason I don't come often.
