I love Panera Bread! I was in the area because of a work training and couldn't pass up the opportunity. Everything on the menu is always a treat. Stopped by for lunch and I was thoroughly impressed at how fast the service was given the long line. My lunch was delicious. I wished there was one in downtown Saint Paul.

My pick 2: Turkey chili & Mac n cheese!

Im so glad they have hot soup and hot sandwiches. Today, I went for the pick 2 menu and ordered regular Mac n cheese with the turkey chili. Mac n cheese is always soo cheesy and so good! Best I've had yet! I'm not too fond of the chili as I'm not a fan of the extra beans in it. The regular beans in my chili is just fine, but it didn't take the taste away from the chili itself. Customer service is almost always available and ready to answer questions. I do love that about Panera and they somehow manage to keep their tables clean and the napkins and spoons filled. It's a plus in my book.

    Real food, fairly fast!

Panera, generally speaking has the great appeal of serving real food nearly as quickly as fast food for a reasonable price. Truly, this stuff tastes like it came right out of a home kitchen. For menu items, the Wild Rice soup is a must try, and the chocolate breakfast pastry is not to be missed. Coming down to the Edina Southtown location, for speed it's not one of the best. More than once I have come for a pick up order only to find it not ready yet. Lines that at weekend lunch can twist to the outside door are not handled with great speed. The crowds here at peak times are thicker than any Panera I have seen. Worst is when they get behind on wiping tables and things look grubby. The staff is very polite, the restrooms are always clean, and at this location you can even park reasonably close to the door. Pick up the pace and wipe tables a little more often and you'd have a great location.

    Nice working fireplace!

I happened to be in the area running some errands, which included my needing to pick up an order at Lane Bryant located in Yorktown Mall. I and my husband wanted to get something for lunch, and I suggested we order some food from Panera Bread. When i went inside, I noticed there was a self-service electronic kiosk where I could place my order, so that's what I did. I, then, went to the back of the store and waited for my food to be made, bagged, and tagged. There is a screen that lists customers' names, notifying them when their food is being preparing and when it's ready. When a customer's food is ready, their bag is placed either on the counter or inside a cubbyhole where to-go orders are placed so they can be picked up. My husband ordered a whole steak and white cheddar panini sandwich and a whole avocado Cobb with chicken salad. I decided to order a combination from the You Pick 2 menu, which consisted of a half roasted turkey with avocado BLT sandwich and a side of mac and cheese. Mahva J. told me how good is the mac and cheese at Panera, so i had to try it, and, as per usual, she was right! :) It was delicious, rich, creamy, cheesy, and flavorful! I dipped my baguette (per her instructions, also) in the cheese sauce, too. When I return to Panera, I will have to get a large-sized container of mac and cheese! LOL The sandwich was just OK, but it fit the bill. My husband enjoyed his food quite a lot, from what he told me. I liked that there is a working fireplace inside. It's nice to have that available during the cold winter season. I will be certainly be back!

Food and service were prompt and delightful, but a 1/2 sandwich and 1/2 salad combo was $18.76. Fast food quality at a sit down price.

Chef Pedro took our order (bonus points) and we had a lovely conversation about New Orleans. The menu here has a lot of New Orleans food intertwined. Based on where Pedro previously worked in New Orleans, he has an outstanding culinary background. I was going to order the Muffaletta, which can be served hot or cold, but they were out. When I heard why, I was impressed. In New Orleans, the gold standard of bread is Leidenheimer. Minnesota doesn't have the same bread (Trung Nam Bakery is the closest substitute). Pedro uses Leidenheimer for his Muffalettas. Pedro also makes his own olive salad. I am looking forward to trying a Muffaletta. My husband ordered the Zambon Dip and really enjoyed it. I had the Herb Brooks Focaccia. It was great. Big portions. What is really funny is I knew the North Stars as I worked at the Met Center. Fun memorabilia too. On street parking and some tables outside. What we used to call a neighborhood joint. Stop in and say hi to Pedro. Now I just wish he would make Gumbo with some okra and filé.

Seems like a really busy takeout spot. Order: the North Star deluxe. Delicious. Their take on a Reuben without the kraut. All the meats were delicious and distinctive in flavor. The creole mayo added that nice creaminess. The homemade pickles on the side added that little vinegar punch to cut thru the richness of the sandwich. Smoked salmon BLT. Huge potion of perfectly smoked salmon. The smoke and crunch of the bacon was a perfect pairing. This is an amazing creative surf and turf. Overall: This is a must try on your Minnesota food tour.

We got takeout on this occasion which was slick, albeit a bit tricky due to parking in the linden hills area by this restaurant. I got the turkey in the hills sandwich and the tomato soup. Both of these were hits and were a good amount of food too. My mom got the same sandwich with the chicken wild rice soup which wasn't as much of a hit as the tomato but was still decent and then my sister got a veg sandwich with the tomato soup. Overall I like the lunch special and think it could be perfect with a sandwich and salad on a summer day

SPACE There are a few 4-tops on the patio in front, a handful of bar seats inside with a small, cozy indoor table footprint, and a handful of 2-3 tops on the back alley. SERVICE The bartender told us to go find a spot on the back alley, so we did - but not sure we did things right, as our server walked past us a few times without acknowledging us. Service was friendly but limited. DRINKS They had a nice cocktail menu, but I opted for an Aperol Spritz. My husband chose off their limited NA menu a lavender honey lemonade, and it was a bit too sweet for him. I'd love to see some mocktail options here! FOOD We just got a few shareables since we were heading to dinner after, but their sandwiches were making my husband's mouth water! We got: Pickle Brined Wings - amazing flavor, salty and dilly, but I would have liked quite a bit more char on them: they were pretty pale. Minnesota Sushi - my husband loved this! Served with Ritz crackers, and it's the perfect little shareable dip.

On one side is a meat market with a variety of cuts of steaks, lamb, and other meats, which all looked fresh and quite nice. They also have a variety of items such as canned goods, pasta, eggs, etc. on the shelves opposite the meat counter. The entire place is quite sunny, pleasant, and cozy. On the other side is the eat-in, take-out deli sandwiches, that are made to order. The quality of the ingredients is excellent. The bread is freshly made (crispy baguette type) and you have a choice of Roast Beef, Roast Turkey, Tuna Salad, Smoked Ham, or Corned Beef. All sandwiches are $16.50 each (including tax) and come with a choice of mayonnaise, spicy stone ground mustard, red leaf lettuce, thin sliced red onion, salt, pepper, oil, vinegar, raw grated horseradish, pickled jalapeno, and roasted bell pepper. The default includes all toppings so if you don't want everything, be sure to specify what you do NOT want. Surprisingly, they do not carry any diet soda, nor do they stock any national brands (only local pop). There is a large menu on the wall, and you order at the counter and pick up the order (no table service). The food was attractively presented, and very, very good. My only gripe (besides the lack of diet pop) is that it's on the expensive side for lunch. Two sandwiches, a couple of bags of chips, and a couple of cans of pop will easily top $40, although I'd say the quality is top-notch.

I was on the street in front of Clancy's when one of their customers was mis-identified as an officer of an organization that was terrorizing Minneapolis. It had nothing to do with Clancy's! As I tried to get to my car, people yelled the most obscene and disgusting epitaphs at the couple in front of me. I was just walking down Grand Avenue. They were even spitting at this innocent individual. As a liberal who marched for civil rights and against the war in Vietnam during the 1960s and 1970s, I was horrified. Blaming Clancy's is ignorant, and an integral part of how this country is dismantling. Clancy's Meats & Fish is important to our neighborhood, and represents the kindness and empathy that has been representative of Minnesota for decades. Give them your support.
