Make a reservation if you're going during brunch. The restaurant isn't that large and they fill up quickly! My mom and I often choose two meals so we can split them. We shared the waffles and basil scrambled eggs and the shrimp and grits. Both were seasoned well and tasty. I had a SLAM cocktail. It had blueberries and a fizzy taste. I recommend it. The servers were kind and they start you with rolls. I believe they were Asiago rolls and I loved them (had at least 3-4!)...more restaurants need to start you with a roll or biscuit to tide you over until your meal comes. TL:DR - Above average food, one of the most beautiful venues in stl, and great service easily gets this place 4 stars. This was my first time here and I must say I'm really impressed. The venue itself is so beautiful, floor to ceiling windows all along the front of the restaurant making for a beautiful view of art hill. Upon walking, I was greeted by the host who was very polite and professional and then shown to our seats. I really enjoy that the restaurant is upscale yet not overly so, in that I can't come in with my gym shorts but I don't need to wear a dress shirt either. I wore some nice shorts and a polo long sleeve shirt and fit in fine. The serving staff was very professional and courteous even when it was clear some of the servers were being trained. Now onto the food! My partner and I shared a blueberry mocktail that had some ginger ale in it, I wish it was more fizzy, but still spot on and refreshing none the less. We split an order of the champagne benedict with crab cakes and a pear salad. The pear, goat cheese, and pomegranate salad was rather plain and I felt like it was something I could have easily made at home, but even then it was still good. The champagne benedict was probably the best part of the menu. What a great Friday night--a yummy meal in the lovely atmosphere of Panorama followed by a stroll thru the always fascinating St. Louis Art Museum. As vegetarians, we appreciated multiple veg-friendly options to select from. We opted for a ravioli appetizer that was outstanding. Nicely presented with a delicious sauce. It was melt-in-the-mouth good. Next we shared a very tasty kale summer salad with avocado, strawberry, almonds and a tasty, lightly tangy dressing to top it. Our main dish was a toasted tomato melt sandwich with a mix of cheeses. Delish! Service was good and the meal was well-paced. It was our first visit and we were quite pleased. Where else can someone maybe taste duck for the first time for under $20 or meet with friends and linger over lunch and maybe a mimosa or two that also has art from around the world at every turn? Quiche, one of the specials, full of Gorgonzola and bacon was good and we were able to try honey cauliflower with almonds as a side...I've always shied away from cauliflower but this was actually good. This place is an ok spot to grab a bite when you are hungry from walking the museum. People are friendly, and the menu has just about something for everyone. The problem is the value. I really don't taste the expensive prices in the food. The menu is uninspired, and some dishes try to hard to be different but do not come through with taste. We continue to give it a go because we are avid museum walkers, but don't expect this to be a destination restaurant any time soon. They do have garage parking for a fee or free if you are at certain membership levels. And reservation are accepted so that is a plus! read more

Panorama restaurant is inside the new addition of the St. Louis Art Museum. It has a wonderful view of what is called Art Hill. I would take a little time to make reservations. This restaurant fills up quickly. It does take a while for service, so be patient. We came here before seeing their exhibition of Reigning Men. We shared the baked strawberry, basil and jam brie. It came with grilled crostinis. This was very good and I think it could easily be a meal for one person. Since it was a hot day, we both decided to get salads. He chose the black and blue salad and added chicken. It came with a honey-lavender dressing but when it came out, it looked dry as a bone. Now their dressings must be quite dear to them because they do not put enough on in order for you to taste it. He had to ask for additional dressing and that's not the first time he had to do it. Once you could put all the flavors together, it was quite good. I ordered the grilled chicken waldorf salad. I envisioned it to be diced chicken in the salad but it came out with an entire chicken breast on top of the salad. I'm not sure what type of dressing was on it because I could not taste any either. The chicken was good as was the salad, but I think I would order something different the next time I come. Would I come back here? Yes, we go to the museum quite often. Honestly, I'm still not sure what/why/how it happened, but I would not recommend anyone to dine at Panorama after what we experienced. In short: My Mom wanted to treat me to a nice birthday lunch, but in the end we felt like we were outcasts, and we were uncomfortable, and we didn't know why. Long version: My Mom took me to Panorama for my birthday lunch a couple weeks ago. She tried to make online reservations, but couldn't for some reason. So we visited Panorama early (on a Tuesday) in person and asked if we needed reservations. They say No. Cool! So we walked the Art Museum and came back an hour later. This is where things got weird.... There were open tables that we wanted, but they wouldn't sit us there because they were reserved (and we didn't have reservations... which they told us an hour ago that we didn't need)! We got seated at a two top in the back row. One side of the table was a booth with the pretty view, so my Mom and squeezed into a one-seater together. We were the only ones that got sat there for over an hour, and no one at Panorama asked if we wanted a more accommodating table for the view (which is what we requested earlier). The tables kept turning over, and we kept feeling more and more like outcasts. No one thought to ask if we wanted to put two two-tops together to be more comfortable. In fact, we watched one table that we wanted remain empty the whole time. When we asked about it, they said it was for people with reservations and that's why we couldn't have it.. BUT it was weird to us because we got there early to ask if we needed a reservation, and they said we didn't need one. We were so thrown off and upset by this. We felt like we were being punished and we didn't know why. We thought about leaving, but we stayed around and made light of it. In fact, our server ended up saving the day. Kelvin was awesome. Low-key, personable, and easy-going. He recommended the bread pudding for dessert, and we had a nice chat with him about his deep voice. Thanks, Kelvin! read more

There are floor-to-ceiling glass windows that are great for people watching. My favourite appetizer is the baked brie- so so so good! Glad we made a reservation, because people were being turned away with 45-min waiting times. It's still so new and popular! If you park in the new underground garage, the signs say $15 parking, but you only need to spend $15 in the restaurant to have your parking ticket discounted to only $5. Park in the garage, keep your parking ticket, take the elevator to Level 2 for the restaurant. When you finish your meal, take your receipt and parking ticket to the Info Desk just outside the restaurant. Then it's down to Parking Level 1 to pay for your parking in the machine. Then to whatever level you parked. As you approach the gate to exit, slip your now-paid-for ticket in, and finally, you're done. Meal started w/ an amuse bouche of watermelon and beet smoothie - sounds strange but good. Complimentary bread and butter was very tasty! We enjoyed the crab cake appetizer. It was unique. Only 2 pieces but came with sauces, greens, and long croutons. We were able to split this among 3 people. My burger was good, and my friends enjoyed their salmon and chicken parmesan Milanese. Our leftovers were boxed up and placed in front of the wrong people who then took the wrong meals home. Oops, we also should have checked inside our boxes. My first time at Panorama will probably be my last. I wanted to like this place SO BADLY because it's connected to the beloved St Louis Art Museum. Also the view inside is beautiful with humongous floor-to-ceiling windows, and the windows overlooks Art Hill. It's a great view for people watching. The service was slow but the staff is very friendly. Our server Anthony was wonderful and very accommodating. The food was probably the most disappointing part of the whole experience. Either I ordered wrong or dine on the wrong day. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. It felt like one of those overpriced tourist trap restaurants. I ordered the Champagne Benedict with Salmon which was lack luster. The poached egg was served over cooked, the champagne hollandaise needs some work, and the salmon tasted old (Yes, I know I'm in the Midwest but there are plenty of great restaurants that served a good smoke salmon...). I can't really figure out what everyone is complaining about, I had a great experience at Panorama when I was visiting St. Louis! Granted, I was a party of 1, on December 26, so it was probably somewhat easy for me to get a table on the spot, vs. a large group on a busier day. But, none the less, I really enjoyed my lunch. I had the salmon tomato soup (which sounded very weird to me, but I decided to give it a go) & crab cakes. These crab cakes were probably the best I've ever had in the midwest. Crispy, full of crab, and hot with a great roasted squash coulis to dip them in. Oh, and can we talk about those ridiculously amazing bread rolls they pass out? And the personal cup of butter with the giant pieces of sea salt on top? Holy hell. I need that again, like, now. The view of Art Hill is gorgeous from the tables, as well. Panorama was a little fancy for what I was looking for while roaming around SLAM (I was wearing jeans & a hoodie, so I was slightly underdressed!), but I wanted something nicer than a sandwich from the downstairs cafe. I didn't realize I was getting into white tablecloths & fancy drinkware, but I'm very glad I gave Panorama a try. My server was very nice, the host was friendly as well and asked how everything was as I was on my way out. The only drawback is it is a little pricey for small portions. My college chum and I arrived 12:10 p.m. Friday. We would have made a reservation, but weren't sure when we would arrive. The website recommends reservations, and I would concur. Our plan was to eat lunch first. Then explore the museum. They were full, so we got a 1:30 p.m. reservation. As it turned out, it was the best thing possible. They suggested we arrive 10 minutes before our reservation time. And we did that. They weren't ready for us. And we saw lots of cluttered, empty tables that had not been bused while we waited for them to get our table ready. They didn't seem at-the-crack for busing those tables. Maybe they had other things to do. But it was a little disconcerting. We got a nice table that looked out to the St. Louis statue. And saw many people coming into the museum. Great people-watching! We ordered beverages. I stuck with water. Then we were delivered warm, yeasty rolls and a little container of butter topped with fleur de sel. Man, was that roll good. The fleur de sel had such a heavenly crunch that paired well with the butter that paired well with the roll. Next, we were delivered an amuse bouche -- a peach and basil soup. It was so tasty and refreshing. Holy cow! I was half full! My college chum ordered the small wedge salad ($7) -- iceberg, Bleu cheese dressing, bacon, Tomato, Marcona almonds and corn. It was an interesting twist on the classic wedge salad. She also got the curried chicken salad sandwich ($12) -- with celery and raisins on herbed focaccia. It comes with a petit salad, but she asked if she could sub something, since she was already getting a salad. Our server offered a couple options, and she chose the homemade potato chips. I ordered the herb-roasted turkey sandwich ($11) -- with bacon, avocado, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, grilled red onion and dijon on multi-grain bread. It comes with a petit salad dressed in red wine vinaigrette. Each of our sandwiches was cut in half diagonally. In each half was a long skewer filled with: a pickled onion, a pickled mini red pepper beautifully cleaned, a large green pimiento-stuffed olive and a cornichon. How delightful these little additions were. So fun, so good, great-tasting briney and vinegary. My college chum liked the wedge salad and although it was a small, it wasn't really that small. She ate about half. She loved her sandwich. It was so yellow, I was afraid it was too much curry. But she said it was perfect, especially paired with the herbed focaccia. Her homemade potato chips were fine, but they weren't salted in any way whatsoever. A little sprinkle would not have hurt. My sandwich was thick and full of gumption. It was a stupendous blend of lovely flavors, yet you could taste everything separately. It's a hearty sandwich. And it was divine. The salad was . . . interesting. Looked like a bunch of weeds I could have gotten from my yard. And waaaaaaay underdressed. I asked for extra dressing. That helped, but it was a just-greenery salad. No extras here. That was disappointing, and many of the greens had stems galore. Don't you trim those? And it's difficult to get those damn things in your mouth, 'cause they're all a-flutter. I'm not a fan of fighting food to get it into my mouth. So on the take-home and why it was better to have been through a part of the museum before lunch: I took my salad and 3/4 of my sandwich home, along with my college chum's homemade potato chips and her leftover wedge salad, and one of her skewers Gol I love that stuff. She took half of her sandwich home. This would not have been a good thing to be dragging through the museum. I had two bags. She had one. If you're a member, you get 10% off your meal. The restaurant is fine. Nice variety on the menu and you can't beat the view -- it's Forest Park, after all! The restaurant at the St. Louis Art Museum has never reached the level of excellence it had when their vendor was Catering St. Louis, but this is pretty good and the service is okay. Not great, but certainly not complaint-worthy. Keep in mind that they are always packed and slightly understaffed, so the wait staff can't possibly keep up. The funny thing is, Panorama SAYS they take reservations, but in reality, they put callers on hold to check if anything is available and play loud piano music until the line cuts you off. Maybe there is a number to call for "real" reservations, but the one on the Museum's website is clearly the one for chumps. Panorama could probably serve sludge and get away with it because they have a captive audience (Forest Park AND Art Museum patrons, so they couldn't fail if they tried), which is good, because there is nothing extraordinary about Panorama except its location. Very good food without being remarkable, and okay service without being noteworthy one way or the other. Go for the view. You will enjoy the food and the atmosphere. (I have a strong suspicion that if this restaurant were located anywhere but the St. Louis Art Museum/Forest Park, it routinely would get two stars.) The only times we've ever managed to get reservations were when we used Open Table and reserved online, but you usually can get seated without too long a wait even without one. read more

I'm a bit shocked to see that Panorama is hovering at 3 stars on Yelp as I write this. The hubby and I visited on a recent foray to SLAM and it was truly a 5-star experience all around. The restaurant is beautifully appointed with massive windows overlooking Forest Park. The lovely environment on arrival was so amazing that I almost wished the service was a bit slower so we had more time to enjoy it. But service was fast and friendly without being obtrusive. The manager came by during our meal to inquire about our food and service as well. The food was great, too, but it really could have been just good and I would still have been head over heels in love with this place.The restaurant has a nice menu to choose from, but they also offer a three course meal special daily and the hubby and I selected this. We started off with a lovely soup followed by our entree which was a tender cut of beef cooked to a perfect medium rare and served with lightly dressed fresh greens. We rounded out our meal with a really nice slice of lemon tart. My hubby also adored their rolls which are house made daily. He inhaled his first serving and our server did a great job of meeting his additional roll needs as he devoured them throughout the meal. My hubby's family and I headed to the Art Museum last weekend to check out the newly opened wing and then settled into Panorama for lunch and conversation afterwards. The reviews across our 16 person table were mixed. Those that got an item off the "main dish" section were happiest - my hubby said the trout sandwich was excellent. Everyone raved about the bread they brought to the table... but being Celiac I couldn't have that. I'm giving this place a three star based on my dish alone. They were not well equipped to feed a gluten-free person. I asked the server and she didn't know what it was. Upon going back to talk to the chef she came back with only one option I could have - the Quinoa Salad with peppers, cheese and a "tumbleweed of greens", I opted to have grilled shrimp added. The salad was very boring and bland. I was not the only one to get this dish at the table and all the others were pretty disappointed as well. This place is a bit confusing to me. It has all the makings of an upscale restaurant with white cloth linens, artistically plated food and a hushed atmosphere (FYI - we called ahead to see if we could bring our daughter and we were told they didn't have high chairs or accommodate young children). But the food was just OK and with the number of times the waitstaff gave the wrong drink and plate to us, causing us to play "hand it down here", the service was spotty at best. I visited Panorama for the first time yesterday for a brunch with some Alumnae. Not having the chance to visit the new wing at the Art Museum nor this beautiful restaurant, the staff was so nice in helping me find this gem. Upon arriving, I was immediately greeted and taken to our section. We were to have a larger group so we had a secluded area off to the left of the restaurant entrance which gave us some nice privacy. The first thing I noticed was the incredible view- obviously the name of the restaurant is due to the beautiful panoramic view of Art Hill- it makes a relaxing backdrop for a brunch. Our waiter, Kelvin, was simply wonderful- attentive but not overbearing, funny, and efficient. The brunch menu is a smaller but well diverse menu which I enjoy and yet I still had a hard time deciding since everything looked amazing. Several ladies at the brunch had been there before and said that everything they have tried has been amazing. After much debate, I settled on the Basil, Cream Cheese Scrambled Eggs which came with bacon, toast, and a potato hash (I substituted fruit for the hash). Several at the table ordered the same thing, but one lady ordered the Summer Fritatta, one The Apple Cinamon Stuffed French Toast, and another the Heirloom Caprese Salad. When all the dishes had arrived, everyone commented how amazing and delicious they looked and looks were not deceiving. My eggs were creamy, complex, and cooked perfectly, the bacon was crispy and decadent, the fruit salad was a tasty and different mix, and who can go wrong with Companion Bread Toast?! Looking around- the French Toast looked to die for, the Caprese salad looked fresh and inviting as well as the Fritatta. Kelvin brought us a dessert menu but he had already sold us on the Strawberry Lemon Gooey Butter Cake Bread Pudding earlier. We all were pretty full but he nicely convinced us that we could all share since of course we could take one bite. ;) In addition to that dessert, Kelvin brought us out a dessert on the house to try- a Cheesecake bite chocolate mousse topped concoction. An amazing soup to start, extraordinary Chicken Piccata (and I'm Italian, so it takes a lot to impress me) and lastly, the passion fruit creme brûlée, and because we were celebrating a birthday and a clean bill of health, the chef bestowed us with a dessert platter of deliciousness!! A few favorites I've discovered are the Grilled Chicken Waldorf Salad, the "BLT" made with pork belly, and the Baked Carmelized Pear Brie. If you are grabbing a drink with lunch or dinner, the wine list is solid but not very long, and the cocktails are interesting. The SLAM (a yummy take on a mimosa) is a particular favorite of mine. The price point isn't bad, with salads and sandwiches around $10-15 and entrees are slightly more expensive. The feel of the restaurant is definitely a bit more upscale and matches the Art Museum experience well in my opinion. The servers know their stuff, and they are professional and efficient. I'm not sure this is a unique enough experience to visit the Art Museum solely for the restaurant. However, if you plan a trip to the museum, I'd highly recommend building in some time for lunch or dinner here and making a reservation. read more

We have had lunch here several times but tonight was our first dinner. The Sea Bass special was excellent moist and fresh. The big surprise was the imaginative treatment of the Short Rib Bolognese. It was not the expected hearty beefy flavor but it had been seasoned carefully with a subtle collection of herbs. The taste was better than expected and was a real winner. read more

A very pleasant upscale style restaurant located in the St Louis Art Museum. I had this tasty and very large grilled cheese sandwich that had a creamy filling. Home made potato chips and a good glass of wine. read more

Went here for brunch, we'd heard it had improved with new leadership in the kitchen. Nothing was outright bad, but a lot of very meh food. I will say, from the moment we sat down, our server was friendly and helpful. His food runner got a little mixed up but all in all very good, classy, professional service. The food though...The rolls they give you are really good. The coffee was pretty good and they refilled it promptly. Downhill from there. I started with the shrimp soup, which was a special that day. There were some nice flavors in it but it was straight greasy overall. I got the benedict with crab cakes for an entree. The benedict was on the small side, which is fine, but the crab cakes??? They were itty bitty and had no flavor at all, dish would have tasted the same, and probably been better, without them. My sister's dish, the eggs and potatoes, came out lukewarm. The space is beautiful. Hopefully the kitchen makes some more improvements, because there is certainly potential here, but I'll need to see a lot more good reviews if I'm going to try it again. read more

Fabulous food and service with a great view.! A great way to cap off our visit to the museum.

The Italian rustica sandwich was delicious, although it was a surprise that it was served hot (it was actually welded to the plate and had to be scraped loose). The brussels sprouts showed a clear desire for all things acidic. They were okay. The children's grilled cheese was excellent. Better than American cheeses but not so fancy that a 7 year old wouldn't want it. What was a negative on the kids meal was the pickle. It was spicy. Who puts a spicy pickle on a kids meal? read more
