I have been to Panorama several times for brunch and consistently liked it, not at least because of the beautiful setting and the art museum. Last week I gave it another shot for lunch and it was a very pleasant experience. I had some seafood for starters (shrimp, crab and mussels) and Halibut as the main dish. Both dishes were delicious. The quality of the seafood and the preparation were excellent. Overall, I recommend Panorama and of course a visit to the art museum is a must. I would like to try dinner at Panorama, unfortunately their opening hours are not quite in sync with the late opening hours of the museum. read more

Went to check out the new wing and grab lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Restaurant was 2/3 empty but we were asked to put in our name a phone number, waited for 2 minutes then were seated... ok?.... Atmosphere is nice, a little upscale looking for the actual clientele that visit the museum (tourists). Were told they validate parking for diners at the info desk, when took ticket to info desk they said only for members of the museum... ok...? Food was just ok, nothing I would go back for... because all of us got sick from eating there! .... awesome... proceed with caution! read more

Love the atmosphere....went to a birthday party. I had the shrimp and grits and it was pretty good. It was pricey so I was expecting to have my mind and taste buds blown away. The hostesses were delightful and professional. We received water right away but the server took nearly 15 minutes to come because our server apparently went home without ensuring we were covered. The view was great and the shrimp and grits were amazing! The sauce, sausage, shrimp, and the grits were all flavorful in and of themselves, but together they melded into the perfect smoky/spicy flavor. I am a fan of the apple cream cheese french toast and Patrice, not so much. The vanilla sauce was very good but we asked for more powdered sugar. According to Patrice, the eggs had no flavor. The potatoes looked like they would be very flavorful but they were ho hum with just a hint of onion. The bacon was perfectly cooked. The coffee and tea were very rich and delicious but we kept having to ask for refills and the first cup of coffee was cold by the time the server finally brought the cream so they had to replace that cup. Had a really great Sunday brunch for 12 friends at Panorama today. The food was all very good, but the service was outstanding. I was really impressed with the staff's attentiveness. And while it was loud on a crowded Sunday morning, they went out of the way to make our party feel special. I highly recommend the champagne Benedict with crab cake. And it pairs really nicely with a SLAM which is a blood orange juice mimosa. Yum! read more

Outstanding lunch here prior to visiting the Egyptian exhibit at the Art Museum. We loved everything that was brought to our table, from the bread and butter to the chicken breast, smoked salmon sandwich, and especially the carmelized cauliflower. When we walked in, we were greeted politely and timely. We were seated in a timely manner. The dining room was beautifully set up and the view was outstanding. We were not greeted by a server for almost ten minutes, we ordered immediately once we were greeted. The pimms cup was well made and tasty. The frittata was generally tasteless, although the vinaigrette on the mixed greens was very tasty. The Waldorf salad was not bad, although I did find a hair in the dish under the salad. The appetizer we ordered was a fried potato or vegetable pancake, it was terrible - I ate only two bites. Our server did check in to make sure the food was delivered, but never checked back to see if we were enjoying our dishes. Eventually my wife flagged down the gentleman who had seated us and asked for the check. I also informed him that we didn't like the appetizer and he removed it from the bill. Overall, the food was not good and the service even worse, I would not recommend this restaurant to anybody. read more

We were overwhelmingly disappointed with our experience at Panorama. The hostess was inept. The waitress never brought us bread after coming to the table twice to specifically tell us she was about the bring the bread out. She brought us glasses of the wrong wine. The food was mediocre at best - the carpaccio (which is actually a soup) was lukewarm. The crab cakes was equivalent to mediocre bar food which tasted like canned crab meat. When we ordered cappuccinos at the end of our meal, the waitress came over and told us that the first cappuccinos turned out fine, but she couldn't get the foam to work and that it "sank in" on the second cup, so "it turned into a latte" (which she then charged us for). And the second cappuccino/latte had more coffee on the sides of the cup and in the saucer than in the cup. Who says, "sorry, I didn't get it right, but here you go"?! This was truly a disappointing experience. I brought my mom here for her birthday and also because my fiance and I were really excited at the prospect of having our rehearsal dinner here, but after this experience, we will have it elsewhere. We recommend that anyone who is thinking of having lunch or dinner here should resist the ambiance of the art museum and seek out a better restaurant. read more

Let's start at the beginning. The name Panorama would seem to indicate some sort of view. Wrong, there used to be a view now a large wall of trees blocks almost all the view except the ass of King Louis' horse. Service friendly but rather rough and unprofessional. The menu sounds and looks interesting but the actual food does not match the description. Baked Brie with pears was served with over cooked toasts. The salad was a salad in name only light on lettuce and dressing and tasted like leftovers. Stay away from the tiramisu dessert it is inedible and tastes like old shoe polish. We love this room and the view and the new wing of the Art Museum. Too bad the food doesn't come up to that standard. Our lunch today was extremely mediocre. My wife's Caesar Salad w/chicken was underwhelming... an almost tasteless dressing. I had a chicken dish on rice and it was as bland as hospital food. Even a healthy dose of salt and pepper didn't help much. I told the waitress about it, so hopefully the chef decides to perk it up. This was too much to spend on a mediocre meal... but the room and view are indeed wonderful, even on an overcast day. read more

My wife and I had dinner for the first time on Friday night at Panorama. I was very impressed. The St. Louis Art Museum stays open until 9PM on Friday nights so we thought we would try Panorama and enjoy the evening at the museum. Panorama was really good. The name (I'm guessing) comes from the panoramic view of Art Hill and the Grand Basin that you see from inside the restaurant. The food was really good and reasonably priced. Appetizers and sandwiches were in the $8-$15 range. Entrees were $16-$25. I had the pimento cheese sandwich which is one of their specialty menu items. It was wonderful. I chose the caramelized cauliflower for my side and that was also wonderful. The service was solid. My only complaint was they didn't have any background music for additional ambiance. The restaurant was probably 3/4 full but it seemed kind of quiet and empty because all you could hear was the clanging of utensils and light conversation among the people. That's a very minor and subjective complaint on my part though. Overall it was a great and I will be back. read more

I visited Panorama last week with my daughter after seeing the exhibit "Reigning Men". Chef Ivy was at the door seating, bussing, delivering, working the room. The food was incredible and our server, Kelvin did an amazing job attending to us. The dining room was full and guests seemed to be well taken care of. I saw many people taking pictures of the beautiful food. The presentation was incredible. We had two split orders and there was no problem with the kitchen doing that. I also noticed that there were several large tables where there were separate checks dropped. (many places won't do that) My experience at Panorama was extremely positive. A gloomy day in St.Louis, but I was not deterred. I grabbed an umbrella and headed out to Forest Park. SLAM was my first stop and seeing as I hadn't had breakfast; an early lunch seemed to be in order. After checking my umbrella I made a bee line to Panorama. Being early meant (at first) I was one of the few people there, I didn't mind at all. Looking for vegetarian options the artisan cheese plate and caprese salad caught my eye. My server Kelsey very patiently answered all of my many questions regarding the menue. All of the staff I encountered there were very pleasant. A lovely view. Tasty and fresh food. Service and wine were excellent. I selected an appetizer of cooked brie with berry sauce and a main of Muscovy Duck (also with some sort of sweet berry sauce). Bad choice - the combination was too sweet although each were excellent. Beautiful floor to ceiling windows overlooking the park, attentive service, quiet setting, and the ability to stroll through the museum after eating make this a great Sunday brunch option. Panorama has been around a while now and my wife and I just recently ate lunch there. It is a classy place with wall-to-wall windows on one side, which is really nice. The menu is seasonal and projects fine dining, which it meets. We ordered the cheese plate for appetizer and it was excellent. Then I had the "BLT" made with pork belly - one of the best sandwiches I've had in my life! No joke. My wife had the roasted duck salad which was also choice. The wait staff was adequate; our waters sat empty for too long with a half empty restaurant but that's a small gripe. Enjoy the awesome Art Museum and then get lunch at Panorama(sans young children probably) and that's a great day. read more

A client took me to lunch at Panorama. It is has a beautiful view of Forest Park and a nice atmosphere. The menu is interesting and boasts of the influence of French and Italian cuisine. I ordered the chicken club sandwich. It listed ingredients of chicken, bacon, avocado cream, pickled onions and Bibb lettuce. I was totally shocked by what was delivered. There was NO bacon, a skimpy amount of chicken and who could taste the avocado cream, because they had slathered the bread with KETCHUP. Yes, ketchup. It completely obliterated all other favors. I have been to both France and Italy, and I have never been served ketchup on a sandwich--so much for French-Italian inspired cuisine! My client had the special, which was lobster Mac n cheese, which she said was delicious. read more

We had a miserable experience last night (Friday before Valentine's day). Lots of diners, admittedly, but almost as many servers, yet nobody took charge of our table at any point and we simply had to grab servers as they ran by. The food was an even greater disappointment than the service: snapper that was tasteless, and pork loin that had spent too many hours in a warming drawer and was completely dried out. First experience for lunch with friends. Food was just ok. Two of us had the Tenderloin which had a gritty taste on the char & the meat had no flavor. The veggie was burnt, the French onion soup had very few onions mainly cheese & croutons. The dessert I wanted was not available. Basicly less than 20 people in the restaurant. So we're Ivy Magruder fans from 1111 Mississippi and Gamlin House days and were excited to try out Panorama for lunch during the holiday break. The ambience of the restaurant is lovely, comfortable and provides great views of the museum grounds. We loved the hot buttery roll offering just after ordering. We liked the wine list and choices of by the glass or carafe for glass and a half and those prices were reasonable. My husband ordered the mushroom melt which was delicious. I wish I had ordered the same. The signature dish Croque Madame was quite disappointing. Very dry and even with a steak knife (which was much appreciated) had a difficult time slicing through the bread crust. Substantial amount of ham and the sliced apple was an interesting addiition. I read later that a bechamel sauce should have been ladled on top but in my case it was not. And the crucial element of the Croque Madam -- the sunny side up egg on top -- sadly was overcooked which made the whole dish even drier. I've had the real thing in Paris and hoped this would be very close to it. Afraid it didn't pan out this time. The sides ordered with each sandwich - brussel sprouts and snap peas were just ok. I think we may give the restaurant another try for dinner, but had hoped for a more enjoyable lunch experience. As for service, the host and wait staff were friendly. I had wondered if our waiter was new as he seemed to be not attentive/communicable. Did not come back to ask us how our meal was and didn't thank us for our patronage at the end. The other serving attendants though seemed to be on their game. Hoping for a better experience next time. read more
