I'm sorry to say that this place is just "ok". I was hoping I would love it after so many have said it's a great place for breakfast. The Red Chile didn't seem to be "thick" like New Mexicans traditionally do, but more like a taco hot sauce consistency. The salsa had this funky zing to it, and nothing really special about the food. Over the course of my 4 day trip in New Mexico, this restaurant was by far the most delicious meal I had. I ordered an adovada breakfast burrito which exceeded my expectations. The portion size was generous, the beans were delicious, and it came with a scoop of fresh guacamole. The tortilla was so soft and melted in my mouth when it sat with the chile sauces. The pork was also was also very tender. Both green and red chile sauces were great! My mom ordered a chile relleno omelette which she proclaimed was the best breakfast she's had at a restaurant in years. Sopaipillas were also to die for. The wait staff is very friendly and the food came out very quickly once we ordered. My only regret is that we didn't find this place sooner so that we could have had two meals there. I had probably one of my top five all time favorite breakfasts here this past weekend: TWICE! We loved it so much that we came back two days in a row. Just the absolute perfect restaurant. Quick, inexpensive, friendly service, excellent food, and an expansive menu. I had the Carne Adovada breakfast burrito both days and it was phenomenal. On our journey into Santa Fe, we didn't realize that we arrived in the middle of a parade, and we weren't able to get our room so we decided to stop and get some food. This place popped up and we decided to give it a try and wow!!! This was the best meatloaf I've ever had. Just filled with veggies and of course green chile, perfectly prepared and topped with brown gravy, I thought OMG, how can this get any better? Then I tried the mashed potatoes and sautéed vegetables and Dios mío, I cleared that plate as if I hadn't eaten in days (with exception of the zucchini, not much of a fan). I went in thinking of trying their breakfast but as soon as I saw meatloaf, it was on. No regrets!! We were seated immediately and our food was ready in about 15 minutes. Oh my WORD, this was mindblowing! When we first walked in we saw a server carrying a massive, juicy burger topped with cheese and green chili, served open faced. Of course that's what my husband got, along with house-made chips, and it was phenomenal. I got a chili relleno which came with a side of beans and rice. Super rich, super cheesy, and extra spicy. The hubs and I each had the Sonora Omelette, chorizo, avocado and cheese with fresh salsa and home fries. Large portions that can easily be shared. Was in town for a quick weekend trip and stopped by for lunch on Sunday. This place looks to be a favorite of the locals. Great selection of Mexican food, breakfast, and sandwiches. The Mexican food was better than the food at Tomasita's and had more spice. Only downside was a long wait and our appetizer got forgotten. read more

We were visiting from Colorado Springs, Colorado, and we decided to stop in here for breakfast. This is one of the best Mexican restaurants that I have ever been to! It was packed when we got there, but there was no hesitation in seating us. It took a little while to receive our food once we ordered, but the food itself totally made up for the wait. I had Huevos Rancheros and shared a Breakfast Burrito with my brother. Both where amazing, but the Burrito was especially good. Bacon, eggs, tortilla, what more can you ask for? I came into Santa Fe for a quick overnight. I ate Linner/Dunch the first day. I had their Adovado sp?? plate Cubed pork in chili sauce served with beans and rice and small salad and I think it might have been a home made flour tortilla. I also ordered chips and salsa and I am glad I did!! The salsa was one of the best I have ever had and that means something coming from thos so cal girl raised on tacos and homemade mexican food and salsa. Prices were really super reasonable and worth every bite. Staff are super friendly and efficient. I can't say anything negative. When preparing to leave town I decided I needed more salsa!!! I headed back and had brunch with corned beef hash with scrambled eggs on top. Served with biscuits and gravy. A bowl of salsa added to the lovely salty-ness of the corned beef hash. Life is Good. Thank you pantry staff for being so bright and cheerful amidst the crowds that arrive salivating in anticipation for your delights. While waiting for my table, 5 mins, I saw a teenie-tiny young woman eat an entire ginormous breakfast burrito and side of potatoes faster than her big boyfriend. Having heard of this place, I admit to having some elevated expectations that I would be finding at least a little bit of magic before I went for a 8 a.m. hike. I ordered the Durango Omelette and it was good,but something that you could get in any New Jersey diner. What did elevate it was the amazing green chile sauce, which was not too spicy but had enough kick to make it a mighty fine omelette. So it would have gotten a 4 star rating, if I weren't let down by it's biscuits. First, I thought it came with gravy, like a proper biscuit should. It did not (or at least they didn't give me any). That would of helped, because they would have helped mask the fact that they weren't made from scratch....or it didn't feel like it was. They were soggy on top, which leads me to believe they were previously frozen. As someone who lives on the southern side of the US, that is a no-no. They had little taste and I probably would have been better off getting toast (which is a very negative comment). Without the green chiles, this would have been a very average breakfast. read more

The Pantry is where the locals go, and for good reason. The food is terrific (best sopapillas in town, great meatloaf, huevos rancheros, burritos and wonderful soups) the waitstaff is attentive (but not obsequious) and the prices are right. It's New Mexican comfort food, so expect big portions, some chili's and a bit of spice. The Pantry is located on Cerrillos Road, and there is plenty of parking in the back. It's crowded for breakfast, lunch and dinner, so you might have a bit of a wait...but it's worth your time. This has been a family restaurant for several generations...ask for Michael, who has taken over running this Santa Fe gem from his father, Stan. Good people, good food and good times. read more
