We went twice, once between lunch and dinner and the place wasn't as busy as it normally gets. Our server was delightful and funny. Food was great. We weren't ready for the massive portions. My husband had the seafood pasta and I had the ribeye. The second time it was busier, closer to dinner. I have a gluten and dairy allergy they made a big deal about making sure they knew it as an allergy, however they did put butter on my steak. It took a long time for the steak to be remade. Our party was done eating by the time my steak finally arrived but they did offer a salad to hold me over. And they did a nice adjustment on the bill which we appreciated. Seafood in New Mexico doesn't necessarily sit well with me. Being that we are not very close to any fresh water source. However, this was definitely some of the best cooked fish I've had anywhere. That being said, one star was taken away for presentation (which unfortunately I wish I had gotten some pictures). My husband got the Rainbow Trout with Crab and Cooked Spinach. The fish was huge, but took up only half the plate (which tells you how big the plate was) and the crab was just kinda halfhazardly thrown on top of the fish. Didn't look very appetizing. Also, the appearance on the inside of the restaurant could definitely use a bit of a refreshing which is why I took one star away. Dare I say the best Cajun restaurant in Albuquerque... Yes, I said it and I mean it. It took a little while to get seated on this Tuesday evening, but so worth the wait. I've only had the food "to go" do to Covid 19, so I was looking forward to trying out the dining in experience. We ordered some adult drinks, which included beer and a vodka soda. We also ordered the crab and spinach dip appetizer, which was extremely yummy (probably the best I've ever had!). I ordered the Pasta Mardi Gras and my guest ordered the shrimp with grits. This was a difficult review to write. I wanted to give a 4 because my food was very delicious but there were some issues that are causing me to give it a 3. When I got there I ordered coffee and soda water. The waiter came around with my water and told me the coffee was brewing and it would be out shortly. When I got the coffee it was cold, odd if it was just brewing a few minutes prior. Then after I ordered my food anod had my salad another server came around and asked me if I was ready to order. Again strange. The thing that really tipped the rating down though was that I unwrapped my silverware and my knife was dirty. Not just dirty, there were crusties on it. Gross. Attention to detail is important, clean silverware is important. That alone would have probably led to an even lower rating but my salmon and rice was amazing! Let me preface this review with the hour prior to our arrival. We were on the "waitlist" app for Texas Roadhouse. When I logged on to put down our names (party of 5) we got a message saying it would be 40 minutes. We were there for 25 minutes and my husband went inside to see how things were progressing. He was told it would be an ADDITIONAL 1 hour and 10 minutes! Ummmm I like Texas Roadhouse, but not enough to wait nearly 2 hours to eat there. So, one of our guests suggested Pappadeaux's across the street. We walked in and immediately got seats at the bar. They were very busy as well. Let me tell you, our experience was OUTSTANDING! Mariah and Christina were our bartenders and they did not disappoint. We all had different dishes. We're from Atlanta and we have dined several times at Pappadeaux's. This is the first time I've ever ordered a steak here. I usually always get seafood. We started with the roasted oysters topped with toasted Parmesan. They were delicious. My steak couldn't have been any better. Cooked exactly like I asked, and just bursting with flavor! Everyone enjoyed their meals and we had plenty of leftovers. We visited here with a group of four for their dinner. We order their grilled lobster, shrimp & crawfish pasta, and grilled Samon. Oh we moved our dish! All of their cooked seafood meal are just delicious! Very good quality and tasty. And the pastas are big dishes too, totally worth the price. The only thing that I'm not satisfied is the Gulf Coast oyster. I think that pacific-water oyster is more tasty. And of course, love their Trio desert at the end of the dinner! It was nice to be as far from the ocean as I was and still have delicious jumbo shrimp. Disappointed. This is always been one of my favorite restaurants. It's certainly not the least expensive, but you could count on excellent service and delicious food. This is the second time I've been treated poorly here. My brother-in-law is 87 and we had to evacuate him from Ruidoso, he loves fried catfish so I thought I would take him to my favorite restaurant. The service was slow, and the waiter made us feel very low priority. He was unfriendly and nearly rude. We ordered iced tea and for what they charge for tea, It should've tasted like tea instead of dirty water. Not to mention getting a refill was not going to happen till we were ready to leave. We gave up on the tea and decided to order a margarita. It wasn't great, pretty weak. The food was fine, only fine. I wanted him to have a lovely experience and was so disappointed that, like my prior visit, the service was not only slow, we were treated like we weren't a big ticket, and the waiter was unfriendly. Been going to Pappadeaux's for over 35 years all over the country. In the 1990s, little things started to be cut, and the fine details started to disappear. Pappadeaux has always been pricier than most, but worth every penny. Once Covid hit, their price increases, have been almost vulgar to bear, as a customer. And now I find out that they're removing something as simple as their Bisque from their menu. That move might be the straw that broke the camel's back for me. The incremental cutting back and the staggering price increases are going to hurt Corporate. There was a time on a Sunday at 1:00PM, you couldn't find a table and had to wait an hour to get one. This past Sunday, same time, 20% full.. Chris and Harris need to heed this review. People will not tolerate much longer. Even a waitress told me recently that the drop in customers is slowly driving her out of the waitress business, after 15 years with Pappas. Not good. read more

Had THE BEST salmon of my life here! It had a ginger sauce, lump crab, a scallop and shrimp with it, on a bed of sautéed spinach. Amazing! Seasoned perfectly. Cooked perfectly. I try to order entrees with fewer carbs. But I can't resist their bread. And our waiter made us wait until a fresh loaf came out if the oven. I could have eaten the whole thing. Hot. With butter. My husband had Surf/Turf. His steak was so tender, cooked perfectly. The lobster tail was a generous size. I wasn't offered a bite of it, but considering how quickly it disappeared I assume it was excellent. Oh, I also had the crawfish soup. So yummy! Staff was attentive and helpful. There's a dish that has toasted hazelnuts (I think currently off the menu with COVID) that is incredible, but this last time I got the tilapia with a baked potato. Some items are delicious, some grossly overpriced. The Salmon lunch special was awesome. My day doesn't do fish and $20 for chicken tender with fries served on a salad plate was not cool at all. I had previously associated a caliber of seafood with Pappadeaux that they failed to deliver today at dinner. On entry I was greeted by servers and was quickly seated. My server was delightful to engage with, and the table was clean. However, this is as far as my positive review can go. The guava lemonade that I ordered was so sweet that I thought surely, I will leave here with diabetes. Then came the gumbo, it was so thin and tasteless that i was disappointed. I ordered the flounder, crab and shrimp meal with a side of broccolini. The amount of crab was surprisingly small. The broccolini was so overcooked that it was falling apart. And the entire dish seemed to be covered in an oily substance. This go round, I was left thinking wow! hypercholesterolemia! Then came the final blow, which was that one non alcoholic lemonade, one cup of gumbo, and one entrée cost $83 before tip. Originally we came for an appetizer and a drink. Well, we got hungry and ordered a plate to share. We ordered the steak and lobster with baked potato. I had a beer and my wife had an Old Fashioned. We also had a salad. The steak was really good and we hadn't had a loaded baked potato in a long time so that was good as well. The lobster, however, was about the size of a large crawfish and it was cut in half. It was over cooked and rubbery. Very disappointing for the money you spend! Really for the most part, everything is over-priced. We shared a plate and had one drink each. Our bill was $126. In my opinion, I can cook a great steak and make a way better lobster!! Always worth it. :) It's always a little loud inside and some of the tables are a bit too big, but when you can snag a table on the patio with the band setting the mood, add in a glass of wine or ice cold martini and start with the crawfish and shrimp fondue. Trust me... Follow that delectable cheesy concoction that's soooo good if you listen carefully you may hear angels sing with any of their delicious meals. The crawfish étouffée is usually spot on and is one of my go-to's... but most entrees are bomb. Obviously Cajun calories don't count, so might as well get a dessert... Like the crème brulée that melts in your mouth or the sweet potato cream pie... I mean, if you're going to do it you might as well go for it, right? ;) *Keep aspirin near by for the heart attack you may have after all that rich buttery food! Lol read more

Let me begin by highlighting amazing service on the Patio courtesy of our waiter Matthew. He was so nice, patient and informative of go to items on the menu. It was my SO, Sean's, first time at a Pappadeaux restaurant and I was eager to have him try all the amazing food I have previously experienced in the Texas restaurant. We began with the alligator, which did in fact taste like chicken. It was even in the somewhat form of a chicken nugget or little boneless piece. Sean was surprised by how good it tasted and I was not disappointed either. And let me mention that the bread and butter IS TO DIE FOR! I had at least 2 loaves . For our entrees I had crawfish etoufee and Sean had the catfish and shrimp dinner. Both of our meals were hot, delicious and of a good size. It was to the point where we did not even finish our meals. We paired our food with a very fruitful sangria and finished with a cheesecake slice. It was a bit pricey but was worth it. read more

This was a pretty hefty dish, and I ate it all....was way too full afterwards but yummy! The parmesan crab sauce was amazing too. This made the dish pretty unhealthy, but oh well. My first experience with Pappadeaux was at the airport in Houston, and I have been aching to go back ever since. So happy to find it here in Albuquerque! It's just as good as I remember, and a really nice change of pace. I went with the crawfish platter, which comes with both fried crawfish and crawfish etoufee. Crunchy, juicy savory amazingness. Even my girlfriend who hates seafood had a few bites and loved it. The dirty rice is outstanding, too. Mix it all up for maximum cajun pleasure. We were here during Mardi Gras week, and got the limited "Swamp Thing" cocktail. If you like pina coladas...you'll love this one. Dessert was also a Mardi Gras special - king cake. I first discovered Pappadeux while I was living in Austin, I was so glad to see that they had one in Albuquerque. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu in my opinion. My husband ordered the fried catfish which was nice s as md crispy with white meat, no dirty catfish here. We took time today to celebrate our 5th "MeetAversary" 5 years since we met, we have been married 4 years, married in a virtual wedding during Covid. My last time ordering from Pappadeaux's was during Covid, I am a native Texan, last lived in Houston, knew the quality of the food and the experience, then I ordered pick-up, was disappointed. I figured that was a supply-chain issue. The food today was excellent - However - our server tried but, he forgot something for each course I ordered - and was asked twice, and another server asked once - took 4th time for my husband's request, more tartar sauce. I ordered sweet tea with a little ice - came with No ice, server pour a refill - of non-sweet tea. I ordered stuffed shrimp, I received soft-shell shrimp, it was corrected. The server did deduct costs for my entrees, so I decided to order dessert to go. That came after my 2nd reminder. The restaurant, became busier when we were leaving, we chose to come in early, about 3:45pm, so we'd miss a crowd. We had plenty of places to be seated when we arrived and when we ordered. Again, I am now enjoying the delicious dessert pecan/sweet potato pie. Since the pie, likely sat a while, my sauce was runny when I received it, it still tastes fine, I do have a sensitive stomach, it's a thing. I am not asking for anything. Just stating I looked forward to today, for a while and hoped for a better experience. By the way, I make gumbo and Creole dishes, again, native-Texan, Louisiana parents, I did enjoy each dish, even the soft-shelled crabs, which I had not ordered, will eat those and the very ample stuffed crab tomorrow.
