Parada is one of those places that feels fancy but still totally comfortable. The vibe is warm and cozy, and the service is great without being over the top. The food is where it really shines. Every dish we tried was super flavorful and a little unexpected in the best way--creative without feeling too "out there." When we searched for the best restaurants in Haight-Ashbury this place kept coming up so we gave it a try. Right around lunch time it was not too busy - only one other group inside when we got there. The place is relatively small, only about 7 tables. I ordered the vegetarian platter and ate almost every bite. The dish comes with yuca al mojo - very tender and tasty - I think I'd only ever had yuca fried so this was different and really enjoyable. The dish also came with white rice (definitely seasoned and good), salad, a little cup of like a bean soup (that I could have had a full bowl of, not sure what it was) and plantains which are just the best thing any meal can come with. I was definitely full when we left. My husband ordered the pernil asado and the meat was super tender since I stole a few bites. The portions here are good and everything tasted great. I was on the hunt for some great Puerto Rican food and came across Parada 22. All of the reviews seemed to be raving about this place so I decided to give it a try for myself. The inside of this restaurant is filled with lots of culture and history. As I walked in, I could feel the authentic love for food! I ordered the Pernil Asado and it had a perfect balance of flavors. The Pernil was some of the most tender pork, I had ever tasted and it had a subtle smokiness to it as well. I am a big fan of plantains and my only wish is that the plantains were a bit softer. The star of the dish for me was actually the rice. The rice has a great blend of flavors and seasonings and I could eat a whole bowl of this myself. The waiter passes out hot sauce for those wishing to ingest it with your food. Sweet ice tea was alright. The decor is very nice. The photos and symbols of the island are very dominant and add a lot of character to the vibe. There's an exterior patio for service but in the early morning it wasn't put into much use. Service was okay. Took a while for the order to come without warning. The staff member was nice to serve me and refill my water. Water is complimentary. It's adorable and savoury. I ordered sangria, but it tasted like red wine and they just threw in the fruits. I love the waitress honesty about a specialty drink I ordered. The chef has no idea what they are doing and I would never recommend anyone to this place if they're looking for authentic Puerto Rican food. The best seats are the ones facing the kitchen where you can see all the different dishes roll out. O, the smell also. It smelled wonderful in there. My meal was the Puerto Rican sampler $22 (maduros (fried plantains), chicharrones de pollo (fried chicken), pernil asado (pork shoulder), yuca al mojo (root vegetable) and tostones (fried green plantains.) This was a nice change of pace from my monotonous rotation of usual restaurants. The best part was the pork shoulder. The other stuff were OK. Service was excellent and fast. At first I thought the place was too small but when I saw the food served to a table nearby I was like oh that looks good! Yucca fritas i wish were fried a bit more, not charred enough for me but the sauce it came with was delish. The bistek was well portioned and gave you a lotta meat!
