For me the best thing about this place was the customer service. From the front desk receptionist, who answered my questions patiently to the servers who were phenomenal about taking the special orders, tracking the special dishes, returning the dishes for a bit of extra cooking to the final delivery of the dishes. They were superb in the face of a very heavy crowd and confusion. We had come early anticipating a long wait for a table, but there was no problem (this was on a Sunday lunchtime). As usual, I ordered fish and chips. The fish came as three small pieces dipped in a fairly delicate batter, which has been nicely fried to a crispy finish. Compared to other fish and chips places, the fish was fresh. The batter was a little bit on the lightweight side for me. I prefer a more medium-bodied batter that has a heartier crunch. The portion size was just right for me but some others will want to order an appetizer or dessert. The sauces for the fish were good but I missed the malt vinegar. Overall, this was very good but it failed to grab the top spot. We were seated outdoors for lunch and the San Francisco weather was stunning. The sun was out and amazingly there wasn't much wind. The tables were set far enough apart than crowding or noise from the next table was never a problem. If you're trying to get a parking spot close to the Park Chalet this could be a major problem. The lot is small and limited. You might be better off getting the parking across the street which serves the beach and Golden Gate Park. On the other hand, if you arrive at a time, when people in the restaurant are leaving, you might be able to pick up a spot very easily, after all I did. The restrooms were neat and clean. There was a very short line. Customer Service-5 big Stars!!!! Ambiance - Depends on the weather, but it was superb the day we were there. I live near this place and have been turned away because they closed early more times than I can count. Do not go by their advertised hours because they are very regularly closed 1-2 hours early. If y'all are closing early advertise it SOMEWHERE so we stop getting shut down!! There were two large private functions (we were not warned of when booking) which slowed the service tremendously...it was almost 45 minutes before we got our drinks (one of which was later comp'd, thankfully). Tables were cleared/removed from all around us starting at 4:45pm making us feel quite unwelcome and uncomfortable. This was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had in my life. I never complain or really make any bad reviews but everything about this place was disappointing. The first sign that it was going to be bad was when we walked into the side entrance and couldn't find the hostess stand and legit everyone who worked there walked by us and couldn't ask if we needed help and clearly we looked confused. The service here has been mentioned on many reviews and honestly it is quite bad. My food came out cold and there was hair in the sauce so I didn't eat it. When it came to paying the bill our waitress gave attitude about a question I had and then proceeded to stand behind me while I was checking out and tipping her so I felt pressured in the moment. Park Chalet used to be a favorite during those sunny Richmond days, but I will not be returning. My party of 3 came in for drinks and light bites on Dec. 8, and we were the only patrons there, except for one other table of 2. It took 40+ minutes to receive 1 beer, 2 cocktails, and a small order of fries. While waiting for the rest of our shared appetizers, a couple who arrived much later was served their drinks and food before us. At this point -- an hour in -- I spoke to our server Nikolai, who responded with little empathy and a lot of condescension. Towards the end of the debacle, a gentleman offered to waive the charges for the food we never received. However, Nikolai ruined the peace offering by presenting the check with a jab about my visible frustration, and insinuating we should be grateful to him for removing the food charges. TLDR: We're blessed to have many wonderful restaurants in our neighborhood with great food, reasonable prices, lovely outdoor spaces -- and most importantly, warm and capable staff. My family and I just got back from Easter lunch (March 31st) at Park Chalet. We had 1PM reservations for lunch for three. We go often enough to know you have to have reservations. After we arrived to check in, we were seated at the table nearest to the corner of the building. When we saw the band starting to set up, we were concerned our son, who is autistic and has sensory issues, might have severe reactions to the band. My son was already showing anxiety in anticipation to the noise. My wife went to talk to the hostess about moving tables as we saw many tables available away from the band, along the building, and on the other side that we could take. As I mentioned, we've been going to Park Chalet fairly regularly and I didn't anticipate any problems as your staff has been very accommodating, even with such a minor request like this. My wife came back and told me they wouldn't move us. When she first talked to them, a young man was ready to move us but a young woman in all black shirt and tights said they wouldn't move us. I looked around and there were plenty of tables available, including the ones away from the band. A band member had informed her that they wouldn't start playing until 2:30. We would be done before the band started, but my son still had anxiety in anticipation of the music as well as when they started doing their sound checks. I understand that the restaurant has to manage customer and tables, but I saw: - A couple who were going to be seated in front of the band express they didn't want to sit there, their concerns were accommodated and they were able to pick a table farther from the band. - Some of the tables that were away from the band were vacant when we made the request were still vacant throughout our lunch and when we left. I don't think that your restaurant is insensitive to those with disabilities, but for some reason, this hostess wouldn't accommodate us with a simple request and ignored my son's needs, even after my wife pointed out he's autistic and has sensory issues. Either this hostess should not be in a service position or requires re-training as what we experienced shouldn't have happen. As for the food, we both ordered burgers, one medium and one medium-rare and they both came medium-rare. In the past I've ordered a medium rare steak and got well-done. I sympathize that input costs are getting higher and see that reflected in the higher menu prices and smaller portions, but quality of service shouldn't be something you skimp on. read more

Park Chalet, which comes from the "Chalet" family of restaurants, is located on the first floor of their historic sibling restaurant Beach Chalet, both of which reside along the Great Highway at the end of Golden Gate Park along San Francisco's Pacific Coast. With perfect views of the Pacific Ocean and Ocean Beach from their parking lot, Park Chalet specializes in serving classic bar entrées with a San Francisco flair. I have been to Park Chalet before with its lively atmosphere around Happy Hour time as locals and tourists alike gather in their outdoor park area for nicely priced drinks and light bites. My most recent experience, which was lunch with a colleague from work, left a lot to be desired from the service to the overall ambience as we had the option of sitting inside their dining room or outside on the grassy lawn of Golden Gate Park that makes up their outdoor dining area. When I arrived there was no one at their host desk and while I did get the opportunity to choose where we'd like to be sat, I chose indoors as their dining room wasn't packed at all despite being 12:30 p.m. on a weekday afternoon and their outdoor seating was basically metal tables that reminded me of public seating. which didn't look comfortable at all. Although I opted to sit inside, the light from the sunshine coming from their skylights and their floor to ceiling retractable walls was intense as it was one of the warmest days of the years. The fact that they didn't have this side open to their back dining patio so the air could flow in and out, while their other side was open, I considered it an odd choice. Originally the host wanted to sit me at one of their high tops tables when their more comfortable lower traditional tables were open, so I promptly asked to sit in one of the lower tables neat their bar area, they acquiesced after claiming she needed to make sure they had enough servers for this area, which I found an odd statement to make as they were fully open for business and our server would have been the same person no matter where we sat. The lunch and dinner menu at Park Chalet is broken up into sections including Starters, Soup & Salads, Favorites, Between the Bread (i.e. Burgers and Sandwiches) and Sweets. While the Beverage Menu is broken up into sections including Chalet House Brewed Ales, Craft Cocktails, Sparkling Wines, Draft Wines, and Oh Ya! Lemonades. To start our meal we both decided to order a cup of their Pacific Clam Chowder, which featured clams, potatoes and smoked bacon and topped with their house-made crackers. To drink I decided to order their Tea Garden Sour cocktail, which featured jasmine green tea-infused vodka, elderflower, rose, lavender, honey, lemon and egg white, while my dining mate ordered a glass of their house Chardonnay, which came from Sonoma-Cutrer Vineyards from the Russian River Valley. For our lunch entrées, I ordered their Flat Iron Steak & Frites, which featured flat iron steak, cooked medium rare as I requested, along with a green peppercorn dipping sauce and served with a side of Kennebec fries and a grilled little gem salad. My dining partner opted for their Battered Fish & Chips, which was three deep fried pieces of local rock cod, French Fries, coleslaw, and tartar sauce for dipping. Although we both enjoyed the taste of our cups of clam chowder, we both felt that the crackers on top of our soup were overly stale, which hampered our overall enjoyment of the soup. When my dining mate wanted to order an additional Chardonnay, our server asked if I wanted anything and I told her no I was comfortable with the remaining cocktail that I had, but after waiting for over ten minutes for her second glass of wine, my dining mate got impatient and asked our server who was standing at a computer station by the wall to see where her glass wine was and she claimed she would check, but alas minutes would pass by and no wine, so my dining mate approached the bar area and went on to claim her drink herself. Imagine my surprise when that same server brought me a second Tea Garden Sour cocktail. I reacted surprisingly to being presented with this second cocktail, but when I realized that our server wasn't paying attention to what we wanted left me puzzled. We also decided to both order desserts, which of course our server did not bring back our menus, luckily I took pictures of the menu and I opted for their Butterscotch Pudding which was made with smoked sea salt caramel and topped with whipped cream, while my friend ordered their Strawberry Shortcake which was a crème biscuit, vanilla macerated strawberries and whipped cream. Would I return to Park Chalet again? Upstairs to dine at Beach Chalet maybe, but it seems as if Park Chalet has some issues to resolve on the service side, as it was extremely slow and almost everyone seemed uninterested in giving their best service. The bartender was fantastic and was able to make plenty of drinks off the menu. Food was served buffet style and quality surpassed my expectations! The brussel sprouts, salmon and short ribs were all great. For a party venue, I can see how the location would be nice, but would only recommend it if you book it during the day so you can take advantage of the location. read more

Went there on labor day weekend for Sunday Brunch which starts @10 am, parking was a nightmare with all the spots taken by beach goers. Fortunately the wait was mininal @10:45, not many peeps know this place is now open. They have outside tables set up wth umbrellas, also part of the indoor dining room was elgible as "outdoor" dining as the glass doors leading to the outside patio were opened. We ordered the crab shrimp omelette & house made corn beef hash. The food took a loonngg time to come out. The omelette came with french fries instead of the scallion potato cakes which was part of the meal, the corn beef hash was also missing the potato cakes. When inquired the waiter told us they ran out of the potato cakes. Really, 1.5 hour into the brunch session & they were already out of the ingredients thats part of the standard breakfast set? Thanks for not telling us until we asked, also the waiter did not offer any alternative to replace the potato cake that was still missing as part of the corn beef hash. Finally we spoke to a tall handsome African American gentleman who offerred to give us a discount by erasing the beignets from the bill. Oveall this place has the setting to be a great outdoor dining establishment. The kitchen & the staff just need to refine their operations a little bit. read more

They've really improved their food game recently. The Thai salad, wings, clam chowder, steak and brussel sprouts are all delicious. A great casual place to hang out and catch up with friends on a nice day. They are dog friendly and the staff provide a pleasant dining experience. If you don't want to sit outdoors, the atrium is a nice alternative. Add a shot to any of their lemonades for a yummy adult refresher if you aren't in the mood for wine or beer. read more

First time here and the reason for my 3 star rating is as follows: Service a solid 5, food a 2. ordered the hash and eggs which in all honesty i compared it to a franchise type entree. the toast was slightly burned and not buttered. i asked for butter and it was brought quickly. No salt or pepper at the table and when i asked for them i was brought little packets of them in a plastic container. Really, management should look into providing simple condiments, especially for a $25 breakfast entree. I asked the server for some jam for my toast and she apologized and said they had none. However when we ordered the beignets a small container had delicious jam accompanying it. Sad that they don't offer it with your toast, even better they should sell the jam. i would have gladly purchased 2 jars. I am a native San Franciscan and i expected more from the food. We got a table very quickly and service was fast too. We went there after lunch in the city just to grab a drink and maybe a dessert. I got the Zicatela cooler cocktail, and for $15 I was not quite impressed. They didn't have my friend's choice of beer so he had to get some local IPA. We felt like trying the butterscotch pudding- it was like a sauce, did not feel like a pudding at all. The taste was good though. A big reason I was put off is because we were given cutlery that was not at all clean. We brought it to their attention and it was promptly replaced, but it spoiled my experience. read more

We came here for a birthday party for about 80 people. Most of us were seated outdoors. It was a pleasant evening and I could just feel the heat lamp so it was perfect where we sat. I was thoroughly impressed with the food. It was buffet style so everyone helped themselves to Cesar salad, fish and chips, short ribs with mushrooms, Garlic mashed potatoes, carrots and mini cheesecake and Chocolate cake dessert. I loved how they displayed the Cesar salad. You had to put together your salad as all the components were separate. They had different greens, fresh anchovies, Parmesan cheese and beautifully done were the sliced crispy croutons. I had to go for seconds. I was sold with the croutons. The short ribs with mushrooms was my other favorite. It was cooked perfectly. I don't know how it stayed tender but it was delicious! They had fish and shoestring fries. Everything managed to stay crispy! I was impressed along with the special tartar sauce. The cocktails and wine were plentiful. And the staff were very attentive. The venue stayed bright for our evening event from 5-8pm. The desserts were small but just the right size for me. I really enjoyed my blueberry cheesecake! read more

I had a Fish N Chips and my mom had the beignets, When I bit into my Fish it was raw, like see though raw. So I changed foods with my mom since she liked the Chips part and I had the beignets which were extremely good, sweet and just amazing. The beignets also came with Blueberry Jam which wasn't bad but far from great. The Fish N Chips also came with old strawberry which tasted so gross. The bathrooms were clean and good sinks. The food took forever to arrive really we got seated fast then like 15 minutes later they asked what we want. Then about 10 minutes after they came out with a glass of water. 10 minutes after that the food finally arrived. Overall I do not recommend ordering the Fish N Chips but the beignets were really great and I highly recommend it. Although the person across us had the Fish N Chips too and she finished it all, the big size not the kids size. read more

Our family had an amazing lunch today. The cocktails, most of the food and our server Ethan were, great. Ethan exceeded our expectations. We were a 'little' needy lol but, not too much. He was kind, helpful, knowledgeable and available. Our food and drinks were served expediently. I loved loved love my cocktails. The Bloody Mary was exceptional. As our daughter said, 'you know it's good when you can see the threads of horseradish you know it's a good one.' Most of the persons in our party ordered fish n chips. We made 6:00 reservations on Yelp. After confirming the day before , an alteration was made the day of our reservation changing it to 5:45. We arrived before 6:00 and our order was taken quickly. At 6:15 we wanted to order more food and was told the kitchen was closed, closes at 6:00 and if we wanted more drinks we had 15 minutes to do so. We were not expecting a rushed dinner. Communication about these details on yelp or when we arrived would have been useful. However, between the time we ordered our drinks, and when the drinks appeared was easily a half an hour to 45 minutes. We ordered our food and again a lot of time elapsed. A couple of us got served while others had to wait. By the time we finished the other people got their food. All in all it was a horrible experience . Me and my wife love this place! The setting is so quaint and nice! We love bringing our dog to this place and just have a nice, relaxing brunch or lunch. The grassy back area is large and very spread out. You'll often see multiple dogs and them hanging out with their families. There are outdoor tables or picnic tables. The Flat Iron Steak & Frites, Parmesan Truffle Fries, and Po'Boy Sliders were all delicious and worth it. But what's significantly remarkable was the Lobster Mac n Cheese! That's what really wow'ed and surprised us and knocked us off our feet! The flavor, the texture, the great ingredients; all perfection! We thought this might be a one-and-done try-it-out kind of place, but we now constantly go back and make a purposeful trip out here (most of the times across the City) just because of the Lobster Mac n Cheese! The parking can get crowded as there's not too many parking slots (it's not a full lot, but 2 very long rows) as it shares with Beach Chalet & Brewery and access to the trails. read more

I personally loved my experience here. My party had outdoor dining because we brought a dog and it was beautiful! I wish that SF wasn't always so cold and cloudy so I could actually see the view but nonetheless, the food was very satisfying. The batter for the calamari was the best I've had yet, the fish was tender, fries well-cooked, and oyster burgers seasoned quite nicely. Forgot to mention we also had a pitcher of their lightest beers. It may be on the pricier side but I had a good time, especially because it was so convenient with Golden Gate Park nearby.
