I have been coming here for 7/8 years. What I love is that everyone knows me and always greets me well. Dr. Wyndhamsmith is really gentle and explains things to me. My husband also likes him too. Yes it is a little pricy, I get it, but I'm really afraid of dentists so I wouldn't change because I feel safe here. Even Dr. Kim was great doing my root canal. One thing I would like to ask is not to over book Saturdays. Maybe open all Saturdays. And need more slots for teeth cleaning. It takes forever to schedule those. That's it. read more

Dentist Michael Kim is a train wreck. He had a an unqualified assistant place crowns on me and she messed it up; he offered no solace other than " we have to grind them off." This is by far the best dental experience I've had. The entire team is efficient. Dr. Kim is very thorough and explains findings and procedures clearly without being condescending. Dr. Ryder, my orthodontist, also explains himself clearly and is very charismatic. I can't say enough wonderful things about Dr. Joseph Kim. My 9 1/2 year old daughter needed a root canal after a cavity went horribly wrong on an adult molar. Her pediatric dentist referred us to a couple endodontists in the Pasadena area. We had our first consultation with another endodontist and did not feel at all comfortable with her bedside manner, so we had a second opinion a week ago with Dr. Joseph Kim. I immediately trusted his opinion and felt an instant confidence in him. His bedside manner is amazing and he exudes knowledge in his speciality without coming across as arrogant or condescending. Needless to say, we booked the root canal with him and just left his office. The root canal is done and it went so much smoother than I'd expected with a 9 1/2 yr old. He talked her through the whole procedure and was so efficient on time! I have honestly had minor dental procedures take longer. From start to finish, amazing experience...Keisha at the front desk is so sweet and Dr. Joseph Kim's dental assistant was nice too. Great overall experience. What a relief! read more

I liked this office when I first went there - it was recommended by my insurance company. They got me in and out, the staff was friendly and efficient. My first proceedure went well, although the dentist and his assistant didn't seem to be working well together. So didn't need the added stress of dentist being angry with assistant. But the proceedure went well so no complaints there. Second visit was a different matter. Same dentist, and this time the assistant was really processional. I was having a filling replaced and all seemed to ge well but as soon as the numbness wore off I could feel a sharp edge on the tooth. Went back for a follow up, they adjusted the sharp edge off and I thought all was well. But I was also noticing that I was having a lot of pain on the side of my face where the tooth was, though the tooth itself wasn't hurting. Went back for second follow up and had a diffent dentist do an adjustment and the difference was night and day. The filling was way to high, and the dentist said I had TMJ - something I've never had before. As soon as he did the adjustment I could feel a dramatic difference in my jaw/face/bite. I don't know if it's common for a dentist to do a filling and have the results be so wrong but I now have concerns about going back there. which is to bad because I liked that dentist. read more

Unfortunately dentistry is becoming more about profit than about your teeth. Dr. Whynhamsmith asked me to see Dr. Writer about my TMJ. I told them both I had a TMJ splint. Dr. Writer asked me to get comprehensive images and records done so he can help me ($800) out of pocket. Then when those were completed he tried to make me a $1,200 TMJ splint without asking. Get the gist, it was a sales tactic from the beginning. He wanted an additional $2,000 to make me a TMJ splint that I already had. The other dentist in Alhambra only charged me $900 for. Friends, if this is happening to me chances are it's happening to others. The yelp reviews are bad, the google reviews are bad, Dr. Whynhamsmith has another yelp account in his name which has even worse reviews. Please call your insurance and verify charges with an itemized statement. To make matters worse they charged my wife $125 for a cavity filling that the insurance said should've been free. We had to contest the charge. When verifying the charges, Martin the office manager said there is no code for the procedure and the insurance said there has to be a code in order to bill. Clearly he was too lazy to look it up. Just terrible business practices. Keisha was the only helpful one who made sense. Thank you Keisha. read more

Most unethical dental office with misrepresentation! It's common knowledge that an endo consultation involves evaluation and examination, none of those services was rendered. The endodontist Kim, receptionist Martin and office staff Patrick Wyndhamsmith (must be related to the GP DDS) are condescending liars. I made the appt for a consultation for an apicoectomy surgery after being informed that the endo has microscope for the apico surgery. On 7/8/14, an assistant had me sit down and took a x-ray first. I immediately noticed the x-ray is not digital and asked if microscope is used for apicoectomy surgery and she said no. I told the assistant I was leaving and she insisted I should wait for Dr. Kim. After a long wait, Dr. Kim showed up with a thumb size x-ray and had no knowledge on which tooth I was seeking evaluation for. I made the appt for #6 and filled out all the paperwork including failed retreat post a bad root canal for #6. Apparently, he didn't even bother to review anything. Even though the retreated overfilled #6 was very clear on x-ray but if he can't read his thumb-size x-ray, it is very concerning to me. Dr. Kim stated microscope may or may not be used in an apicoectomy surgery. He wanted to proceed with an examination on my tooth. I told him I could not let him to go through with an examination and bill insurance without the guarantee that microscopy will be used in the surgery. During the conversation, he was speaking to me in such a condescending way as if I were an uneducated patient. I am a seasoned Wharton MBA alumni with basic medical and dental knowledge from my research and family background. During the brief conversation, I was standing the entire time. Then, I decided not to have my consultation done in the office and left with my caregiver. Upon arriving home, I called my insurance and reported the reasons I didn't feel comfortable with this office, esp. with the equipment and therefore didn't have the consultation done. Insurance company showed understanding and changed office code to a different endo where I had a thorough and objective examination and consultation. I was surprised to receive a billing statement from Pasadena Dental Care, I spoke with Martin, the receptionist on 7/14/14 who stated the thumb size x-ray was taken and I did speak with the endo Dr. Kim so the charges can't be waived. He stated if I don't pay the bill, it will go to a collection agency. Even though the office was aware that I never proceed to have the actual consultation and evaluation performed, they still want to rip patients off. This office has been dishonest, shady and unethical from the time my appt was booked. read more

Wow They literally waited until covid happened to be shady. KEISHA in the front office gave me an appointment over the phone for a filling , unfortunately I wasn't able to make the appointment due to work calling me in, I start my shift at 6:00 am there was no way I could call them until my break at 11 to reschedule. The appointment was for 10:30am, I called back to be informed I need to pay a 50$ deposit just to reschedule, so I decided to go in just to make sure that was accurate, also they quoted me for 2 fillings and a crown without even seeing what my insurance covered! So basically they seen I was young and wanted to prey on me. Nevertheless I went in there to figure out why I was quoted what I was quoted, another rude female at the desk made it clear I was billed 50$ for even missing the appointment! She then says you should of read the card with your appointment... yea sure, but I called and made the appointment with KESHA over the phone and she definitely didn't disclose that! It's the lack of customer service for me, literally everyone in this office is incompetent. read more

I wish I had checked all the reviews before I chose this office for my family. After my husband's insurance changed, we were informed that our former dentist's office did not take his new (cheaper dental insurance). So for I opted for this office which looked nice and accepted his insurance. I'll start by saying pretty much the same thing others have said, this office is nothing but a money grab. I was told the same thing when I went to make cleaning appointments for my daughters and myself, that "no dental office does a cleaning on the first appointment." That was a first for me. We had to schedule two separate appointments for x-rays and the "meet and greet". When he met me, the first thing he said to me was, "I can make you new caps that will look a lot better than the ones you have." (I lost my two front teeth when I was 8 and have had 2 sets of caps since then.) My first thought was, "you could have a least bought me a drink..." If you get my drift. I was immediately turned off. ("Gee, I hadn't thought I looked so awful until you mentioned it, but thanks!") Then both my daughters had to have their wisdom teeth out and needed the full anesthesia. They had their procedures a few months apart. For one we had a $700 out of pocket, the second one was $75. I didn't argue for fear they would change it to $700. My 17 year old had pain and it was still so painful after a few weeks, we got some rigamarole. He also did a couple of fillings on her. Long story short, in October when we were able to change insurance, we went with the "delux-o" insurance which is $225 out of pocket every month for our family of four. TOTALLY worth it. We're back with our old dentist. He just removed my 17 year old's fillings from the old office because they were infected and rotting her gums. We don't pay one cent out of pocket any more, but I WOULD pay out of pocket rather than ever step foot in that office again! read more

Just had a terrific experience with the whole team at Pasadena Dental. Great team - professional, informative and it seems like they love their work. My dental work was pretty standard but urgent and necessary. They were able to see me an hour after I called. Upon arrival I was seen immediately, and had a series of consults and procedures all of which were administered with efficiency and a great attitude. I asked questions throughout and they were more than willing to provide excellent information. I got a kick out of the overall energy of the whole operation - there's a casual but capable professionalism shared by the whole team that appear to enjoy working with each other. AMAZING!!! Enough said, If you are as petrified of the Dentist as I am, FEAR NOT!!! Pasadena Dental is amazing! the staff is so sweet, understanding, and supportive. On MULTIPLE occasions U came in scared from the unknown of what U will feel, hear, and if I'll be uncomfortable/feel any pain. Each time I come in I ask for topical and they are always generous with it and the numbing shots. even the technique they use to just give the numbing shots is amazing, Dr. Wyndhamsmith shakes your cheek and massages your gum to avoid the discomfort of the shot and uses a variety of other helpful techniques to make you comfortable at ALL times. they also allow parents in the rooms with rheir children if theyre scared (me) and allow u to listen to music if you get nervous by the noise/waiting while they work. Pasadena Dental is the ONLY dentist office I will choose.to go to because of everything they offer. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! :) read more

When I began getting my check up I was always very nervous from a bad experience from another location. Over the last few years I have become less fearful and more willing to go into see him on a regular basis. I have two teens 20 & 18 who also receive care. My son had all his wisdom teeth pulled last year with no problems. My daughter who also has dental phobia, is always comforted by the staff and the Dr. I have no complaints and I am very grateful to be in his care. I had my first visit here and I was very satisfied with the service and the care provided. I feel their system for new patients is very efficient. X-rays taken and seen by Dr. Who looked at X-rays and made recommendations. I was able to make appt for next phase of dental care within week. I felt absolutely no pressure to agree to dental work recommended by the doctor. The office was clean and staff were respectful. I have severe dental anxiety due to many years of bad dental experiences. I have just had a root canal done by Dr. Kim the endodontist and he was fantastic. Fast, efficient & pain free which was never the case for me during the many past root canals I have had done. He made sure that I was comfortable at all times throughout the procedure and explained all that he was doing as he did the root canal. Martin and Keisha at the front desk are the sweetest, very knowledgable and informative and always willing to help make sure I was taken care of. It is apparent that he and all the staff care a lot for their patients and want to make sure their experience there is painless and as relaxed as possible. I have only had one other root canal in my life. When I found out i needed another i was not pleased. My dentist recommended Dr. Kim. My first root canal took almost two hours. Not pleasant to say the least. When I met Dr Kim I had a good feeling about him. I went for my root canal this morning thinking it would be another two hour ordeal. I arrived at 9:55. That took me in the room right away. Dr. Kim came in and gave me some anesthetic. Within minutes he was already working on the tooth! He talked me through what he was doing and continued to give me anesthetic while he worked on the tooth. After about 10 minutes he said "We'll be done in about 10 minutes". I was amazed! He finished the work and gave me a temp filling. Even after settling my bill with the front desk I was back in my car at 10:35!!! To say I was pleased and impressed is an understatement. Fantastic doctor. Great office staff. I hope you never need a root canal but if you do this is your guy. read more

My dentist referred me to Joseph Kim, DDS, the endodontist at Pasadena Dental Care for two root canals. One of the teeth was so badly infected in the gum that I had been in pain for several days, my dentist started the procedure and gave me an antibiotic, but the pain was still just about unbearable (and I had 4 children without any anesthesia-but I was taking pain meds for this tooth!) - this all began on Christmas night. Pasadena Dental fit me in to see the doctor as soon as they could. Dr. Kim was AMAZING as is his office staff (Keesha on the front desk, handles a big load of patients, with such grace and humor, its wonderful and she handled all of the insurance paperwork in a flash! - Dr. Kim described everything that he was doing, and how much longer it was going to be, keeping me informed every step of the way. The procedure was not pain free, but I've had root canals before, and none were done as efficiently, quickly and professionally. I took a pain pill when I got home from his office and went to sleep. Today, although the swelling is not all gone, and I'm still taking the antibiotic, the PAIN IS GONE from the sites of both root canals that Dr. Kim did - yesterday! I received no medication for the INFECTED TOOTH I called the office requesting medicine he tried to get me to get a root canal. I demanded the medicine! So it has been almost 3.5 years since I came to this horrible office and it had cost me like 3000.00 dollars to repair the damage they did. I had a terrible experience and no one should go to this dentist. They do bad work and they don't do things right. He did three crowns over charged me and my insurance made him pay me my money back.I had one crown replaced because he left open margins on all of them. Open Margin is when the crown has a gap and he knew but did not care and did sloppy work. Im still working with the insurance company about replacing the other two crowns he did wrong. This is not fare and I don't want any one to go there and go thru the same thing. Also his assistant Martin is a thief who is aware he is ripping people off. At first I thought the dentist did not know but he knows if not he would of fired him and he has not. My husband had work there also which they are correcting as well.
