The pick lady was different from other places I have had it (or at least by the same name) but happy to say very tasty. Shrimp shumai appetizer was probably one of the best tasting ones I've had. What stood out the most was the server soooo very friendly and attentive my water glass never went below half and she even joked that she "had to stay busy" so she filled it regularly. We decided to come check this place out on a Sunday afternoon because I heard they had some of the best sushi in town. Well, whoever said that was right! I live in the apartments next door, so it's refreshing to know you can just come downstairs and order some fresh sushi. They can even deliver to you if you're close by. Some positive takeaways just from my one visit is that the staff is very friendly. Our food came out in a decent amount of time. On Sunday's they have a special on their Redskins Roll. Even if you're not a skins fan (like myself) I encourage everyone to try this because it was really good. Tip: They do have happy hour Mon-Fri 4:30pm-6:30pm and daily specials. The Redskins Roll was a Sunday special. Do note that in order to enjoy the daily special items, you will have to eat them in house. You cannot take them to go. But that's ok, you will want to eat it while it's fresh anyway. Another great aspect about this place is the service and how all the food came out warm and fresh. The Vienna/McLean/Oakton area offers plenty of affordable, delicious, and consistent sushi restaurants (Takumi, Tachibana, Sushi Yama, Sushi Yoshi, Sushi Yoko just to name a few). Passion Fin is not one of them. My wife and I order from Passion Fin on occasion when we feel like eating sushi but don't want to leave the house because they're one of the only sushi places that delivers. If you are looking for fresh fish, authentic Japanese preparation, and good service - look elsewhere. First of all, be wary of any restaurant with a "pan-Asian" menu like Passion Fin has... if you think you can do justice to Sushi, Thai, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and other fare under one roof, you're fooling yourself. As for the sushi, the fish is inconsistent at best. Some nights I'd give the freshness and flavor an 8/10, most nights it's closer to a 6/10, but unfortunately too often it's been a 3/10. The worst part about Passion Fin is how expensive it is! I get the same amount of food with better quality, for half the price at any of the restaurants I named above. The one thing I appreciated about Passion Fin in the past was at least the service was friendly and accommodating. This was not the case today. I simply asked them to use a blowtorch on the top of my salmon belly nigiri (a common practice in any sushi restaurant that is worth its salt). The hostess I spoke with told me they were unable to do that. I asked her to request that the chef do it, because I've literally never been to a sushi restaurant that was unable to fulfill this request. I heard her ask the chef if they could sear my fish. I corrected her - I did not want the fish seared, but rather passed over with a simple blowtorch. The chef obliged... but for an upcharge of $2. I balked... considering the sushi cost $5 and I've NEVER had to pay for this request in any other restaurant. The hostess's response was "do you want the salmon or not". I canceled the order. Incredible how such a simple request would not be fulfilled by the kitchen. I'm not sure we'll be returning to Passion Fin after this experience... I didn't like it that much to begin with... this experience was enough to push me over the edge. read more

So I had a Groupon that was about to expire, shocking I know. Hubby and I enjoy good sushi but don't make it out for such eats often enough. The thing about sushi is that there are a couple of grades of sushi which include bad, OK, good, and "I want more". This was OK to good. It might just have been OK except that since we have not been out for sushi in a while so we both had a seriouos hankering and that may be part of the reason I am rounding up to good. This is a relatively small restaurant. You walk in and the bar and bar tables (higher tables) are to the right while on the left side are regular hieght tables as well as the chefs' work area. There are a couple of TV screens but they were not loud or overwelming. There is some background noise but you can still hold a conversation (or listen to the ones near you). The bar had a older crowd who seemed to have met for after work drinks before the holiday week got too crazy. The tables near us were younger folks one was a couple and the other was a few coworkers talking office politcs. The place was clean, the server was nice enough. Our language limits made asking questions about items not a realistic possibility. We had a few rolls we enjoyed. Writing this a week after our visit I do not really recall any rolls that were particularly enjoyable. Immediately I poked around and thought the presentation was mediocre. Also Wasn't a fan of the sauce on my rice. It also seemed like standard jasmine, no stickiness no sweetness. I generally like sushi rice with my chirashi (not sure if that is standard). The tamago was bland, spongy and caky. Ikura (fish roe) was lukewarm and fishier than normal. The lobster salad was a chewy, salty and didn't seem like lobster at all--this is actually the first time I've ever had lobster salad in Chirashi. Overall their rolls were pretty good, but there were a lot of fillers--if you want real crab make sure the description says that it's real crab. Absolutely a four star sushi experience. Passion Fin has a nice large dining room with a separate sushi bar from the drinks bar. Nice concept, but I found the bench seating along the wall to be less than completely comfortable despite having a great view of the restaurant. I ordered three rolls and each was excellent. Not too much sauce on the eel roll and the "super rainbow" was absolutely excellent. Very clean tasting, very nicely presented and well assembled. The slice of star fruit was a nice garnish! The sushi did not fall apart even slightly when dipped in the soy sauce. Service was decent - only two were working but they were moving quickly to get orders, clear plates and the like. Came here on a Living Social deal for lunch on a weekend. The place was pretty empty so we were seated right away. Our server was nice and checked in often. We noticed the staff was hanging out, chit chatting (at times loudly) and sitting around the bar - it wasn't busy but not something you'd want to see in plain sight. Food - it was good. We got mostly rolls. The sunrise roll was delicious. Really enjoyed it. The real crab meat roll tasted like cold crab meat from the can. I couldn't taste any crab in some of the pieces. It was okay but wouldn't order again. The rest of the rolls were good but nothing special. We ordered Beef & Chicken satay, Shrimp tempura, Flamingo Roll, Pink lady roll, and assortment of sashimi including fatty tuna, fatty salmon, Uni, and Mackerel. Beef & Chicken satay came with peanut sauce and tasted very delicious and the shrimp tempura was fluffy, and crispy. Pink lady roll (10 pieces) filled with shrimp tempura and was perfectly balanced in textures and flavors. Flamingo Roll (10 pieces) filled with spicy yellowtail, spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and mango, and was also delicious. Fatty tuna and fatty salmon sashimi were off the menu and they were very fresh and melt in your mouth, Uni sashimi was sweet and buttery, like savoury cream, but Mackerel sashimi was very fishy tasting and almost pickled? First off, their outside sign is super tiny so I really drove past it like 5 times. So did my friend. It's bigger than most of the other sushi places which is always a plus. Their menu has a variety of Chinese and Thai entrees. They have a lot of specials depending on what day you're visiting. I was bummed out that they only offer happy hour prices at the bar. My friend and I shared 6 rolls, but I only liked the Redskins roll. Their spicy salmon roll was barely spicy and I'm pretty sensitive to spicy food. I liked it there, but didn't love it. Review is for takeout only. Passionfin is tasty, reliable, and quick. It's our go-to takeout place for general Asian fare because the menu has Japanese, American Chinese, and Thai options that are all good, so it's easy to coordinate for a group that may not be totally aligned on what they want to eat. The sushi is fresh and they are very good about accommodating any special requests you leave in that section. I can't say every dish is 5 stars, the best you've ever had of it's kind, but overall everything has been tasty and you just can't beat the convenience. We usually use DoorDash and haven't had any issues with it at Passion Fin. We'll definitely continue to order from here in the future. read more

Great happy hour place! I'm so happy this place is located a quick 5 min walk from my home since this is probably my new fav happy hour. I'm only sad that we came here 5 min before it was ending! They have a variety of specialty martinis and cocktails on the menu. We got the peartini and the lychee tini. I had an amazing peartini at a sushi restaurant years ago and none I've tried since then matched, including this one, but their lychee tini has become a new fav for me! Lots to recommend about Passion Fin for both takeout and dine-in. They offer really solid pan-asian food and are a great addition to the neighborhood. Passion Fin has Japanese, Chinese, and Thai options on the menu. Most of the Japanese offerings are sushi, although there is some teriyaki and tempura. There are also a few standard options for Chinese and Thai. In general, the food is very good. We used to only get takeout from here (which you pickup, the restaurant itself doesn't deliver) and it was pretty good. I have to say, though, that the food is noticeably better when served in the restaurant. That's probably always a little true (I mean, what food tastes better after transit), but it was especially noticeable here. So maybe it's more accurate to say three stars for takeout, and four for dine-in. Dining in, it's a very pleasant experience. It always seems to be pleasantly busy, but never packed. There are tvs by the bar and in the front dining room, but not in the back room. It actually makes Passion Fin a nice alternative for catching an NFL game when nearby Blackfinn is overrun. The service is friendly and fast, and there is a nice selection of wines by the bottle and by the glass. There a very good selection of beers at super friendly prices. The appetizers offer a nice variety, and I would especially recommend the pot stickers and the vegetable spring rolls. For the Chinese entrees, the lo mein is excellent. The various fried chicken entrees (General Tso's, orange chicken, etc) are pretty good, but the sauces are maybe a little too sweet and not spicy enough. read more

I called to place the order instead and they wouldn't take it because it was under $100. Note that the order was $84. They wouldn't budge and told me to use UberEats or GrubHub.
