This place doesn't surprise or disappoint! Little bit run down on the inside, but that doesn't matter because the prices are low and the food is good. They take credit card, there's a restroom for customers, and parking lot on site. $6.95 for two Chicago style hot dogs on poppy seed buns with all the fixings (mustard, ketchup, onion, relish, pickled hot peppers, quarter pickle slice, celery salt), side of small fries and a small fountain soda pop --- wow, I love to eat, and this was almost too much food. Completely hit the spot. No free refills, but you can get cold water from the cooler, or pay for refills. Fries are soo crispy salty delicious!! $6.95 for a Gyro --- real fluffy pita bread, fresh tomatoes, onion and lots of sauce. This will not dry out your mouth! Meat was made of lamb and beef, and was moist and flavorful. You can get the Gyro plate for $8.95 and add a soda. A lot of people coming in and getting sandwiches or grilled chicken. Their Italian beef sandwich seems to be a hit at $6.95 each. The most expensive thing on the menu is the deep fried seafood platter for $11.95, flounder, shrimp, scallops, and fries. They have a condiments station with celery salt, S&P, ketchup, mustard and plastic utensils. Definitely coming back again! read more

No frills and no glam, but this place doesn't need it. I ordered a cheese burger with bacon and a side of fries. The woman working the register was very pleasant and aided my brother, who was unsure what to order. Our food was ready within about 10 minutes, and I was a little concerned that my burger would be lifeless and dry and that my fries would slump when picked up. I was pleasantly surprised! My food was piping hot, and my burger was juicy. The fries weren't as crunchy as I like, but that could be a matter of preference. My girl got an Italian Beef dipped. For some reason it's not fully dipped in au jus like portillo's does but it was good nonetheless. The greatest discovery here was the CHEESE FRIES. It's a nacho cheese flavor that's exceptionally tasty and we thought it'd be wise of the business to advertise a side of cheese on the menu as we had to ask if they had it. Patio Beef is an amazing local Italian Beef stand. It has a classic Chicago ambiance and is an amazing place to stop in for lunch or dinner. While it is definitely more of a neighborhood establishment you can also take out of town guests here for a more authentic take than some of the usual downtown spots. I'm very sad to write that all good things must come to an end. Today, after receiving the wrong order, I phoned to let them know because I wanted to come and get the right order. The cashier proceeded to tell me she was right, I was wrong. I told her that I ordered a hot dog, no relish, extra sport peppers, which doesn't even translate into a hamburger as hamburgers don't have relish or sport peppers. She continued to argue with me, saying that she knows I ordered a hamburger and then was indignant because I was irritated. This place food quality remain similar to when I first visit here 11 year ago . I remember they had the jumbo hot dog special for $2 back then and all my friends would come here to eat after we got out of school or whenever we left the library next to it. I really like the people that work there. They are so friendly. The husband and wife. There is a pretty gal that work there also. These 3 have been working here since I first visited this place. Always a special posted on the front door. Hours are strict and posted. Not open late. I am a fan of the Gyros (yee-ros- as posted on the front window). They grill the pita for you, add the right amount of onion, and throw on the sauce. Perfect! The cheeseburgers are not bad either! My P's love the chili dogs and crispy fries. But Patio Beef is just very lack luster compared to the other dozen plus places I've been to in this city. I always get a hot dog Chicago style minus the neon relish (seriously who eats that?!), they even fold in the hand cut fries. I tried the cheese fries once and didn't dig the cheese. Unfortunately my review has to be amended. I'm disappointed in Patio. I've gone there probably 2 dozen times now and although the burger is still superb and the hot dogs can't be beat, I can't say the rest of the menu is much to rave about. The gyros - the meat is good, but the tzatziki is much, MUCH too sweet and overcomes the taste of the meat. I'll head over to Hella's next time. The bbq beef sandwich - blah. The bbq sauce is definitely a generic bottle sauce. Absolutely nothing to write home about. However, here is where I have to draw the line. What is up with your fries, Patio? They are so bland and either under cooked (cold and limp) or over cooked (warmish, but greasy and limp) that they are inedible. Seriously, tell your cook to stop making huge batches of fries at once and cook the fries when someone orders. If it takes a little longer, then so be it. Because, right now, those fries are gross. And ordering cheese fries doesn't help either. You can still taste the bland through all the cheese goodness. It's a shame....you're a hot dog/fries stand, you make good dogs, burgers, etc. so, please up the ante with the fries! That's all I ask! read more
