If you are/live in the Westwood area and are looking for a quality nail salon where you will be valued as a customer, come here! I stumbled across this spot after leaving angry from my usual nail place in Westwood after being rudely ignored (beware of other Westwood nail salons with low reviews. I am not saying any names). I appreciate this place because they value your time. When you make an appointment, they take your number down. I scheduled a pedicure for 4:15, but a client ended up canceling, so they called me and took me in almost 30 minutes earlier! The shop is very small and the regular pedicures are standard($20). Nothing really special happens. Since the shop is so small, the chemical fumes can become very strong, so be aware of that. The nail techs and the male manager (I'm guessing) are all very nice. Yes, the nail techs talk while working but it is, by no means yelling. I did not have a problem with it. I liked this place so much that I mad a gel manicure appointment! Service was good but they let me leave with this crust on my fingers... either from the topcoat or something else. It came off with hot water, but it didn't seem like they cared enough to clean up. Also they filed my nails at the end of my appointment to fix the shape, but they removed the polish on the tips of my nails. I called ahead and made an appointment to come in and have my acrylics removed and get a simple new manicure. I didn't forget the lady's name that was working on my nails, but this rating is going to be based off of the finished product rather than her skills. The man that is standing over the ladies who are working and watching them and rushing them is the reason my nails turned out to be so crappy. Like I said, I called ahead and made an appointment to avoid getting pushed aside as new customers came in. I sat down as the lady was finishing up on another customer... after a few minutes she sat me down and started working on my nails. 20 minutes later, the man told the lady to hurry up with not only with my acrylic removal but my manicure as well... She hadn't even started on my manicure yet. So, what she did was basically leave my acrylics kind of still on my nails... leaving my nail texture to be rough and uneven. He told me to pick a color, so I rushed and just asked him to hand me a shade of beige, since I couldn't get up since the lady was filing my nails. She quickly did my entire manicure in 7 minutes as more customers walked in. I wish she wasn't rushed... the funny thing is I was there when the man kept picking up the phone and stacking 20 minute appointments on top of each other.. like, chill dude.. give your employees some time to do their job properly. When she wasn't rushing, she seemed to know what she was doing. I even told them to just leave the manicure for another time since there were new customers walking in, but she insisted I'm doing both.. ended up with a crappy manicure. I'd give this place 0 star if I could. First of all, management has changed so there is an entirely new staff. If you're looking for Mai or anyone else in particular from before, they are no longer there. The new management is rude and is clearly incompetent compared to the old staff. As you can see, my nails were painted extremely unevenly. Also, some parts had air bubbles, were not painted properly, and overall it looked as if my baby cousin painted my nails. My nail technician, Jenny, admitted she had did a horrible job because the polish was hard to work with even THOUGH she had recommended the color to me. Since I was crunched for time, I asked to remove the nail polish and asked for a refund instead nicely. The new manager refused to give me a refund and offered to repaint my nails. He did this while standing up and my nails looked even worse than the first time. I asked the other customer who was next to me to make sure I wasn't being crazy or rude. She agreed that my nails weren't even painted entirely and the bottom was uneven. Didn't even bother to clean up the edges. When I once again asked politely to remove the polish, The manager said "what's your problem? This is perfect!!" I did not want to waste any more of time or cause a scene so I let them keep my money and left. Do not go here - this place isn't the same anymore. read more

I got a gel manicure and pedicure for $85 which is pretty pricey. The pedicure is the worst ive probably ever gotten. Paint all over my skin. I had to remind the woman (jenny) to put a top coat on my right foot because she forgot. She did it no problem, however in that process things got confusing. The man painting my nails then forgot to do a final coat on my left hand. The tone of green on both hands is noticeably uneven in certain light. My left hand more sheer than my right. Would not recommend. The whole process felt rushed and messy. There are plenty of nail places in this area, try and avoid this one. read more

I came in for a gel removal and new gel manicure. I went in without an appointment and they were able to let me in immediately. However, the place is tiny and while they were doing my nails they had to turn down every person coming in unless they had an appointment. There were just two people working and they were working on me and one other girl, but it seemed like the job was rushed and they kept going back and forth from me to her. My nails came out OK. I got the man and although he was talking like he knew what he was doing, I feel like he wasn't that experienced. Reading reviews from a month ago, it seems like other people were disappointed in his manicures as well. I chose a mint green color, from the nail palette they showed me I chose one leaning more toward green than blue but it came out more of a mint blue/Tiffany blue color which I'm not that mad at. ***He left a lot of space on my nail uncolored. I'm the LAST one she wants to be slicing into, because I was HORRIFIED. Right into my flesh!!! She grabs my finger and goes "oh I'm so sorry." My immediate thoughts were "if you don't get yo bare hands off of my fresh cut; I DON'T KNOW WHERE YOUR UNWASHED HANDS HAVE BEEN OR WHAT YOU'VE BEEN EXPOSED TO!" Um, sweetie.. you cut me with a drill bit which I'd bet all my savings you don't sterilize, "sorry" is not gon cut it. I immediately start in with the internal panic about all the bacteria and disease that she could've potentially exposed me to in one fell swoop, with one SLOPPY and RECKLESS swipe of the drill she is clearly not qualified to use. I began getting PISSED just thinking about it and how absolutely careless she was about her use of the drill. Just sloppy and careless. CARELESS. She took out a duster brush and started dusting the finger she cut. The brush was laden with dust from acrylics and I'm literally sitting there with the most perplexed look on my face, because I could not understand how she thought that was helping. Here she was dusting a now open wound with old acrylic dust, and rubbing her hands (which she did NOT wash between myself and the customer before me) all over my cut. I snatched my hands back, terrified now that this individual had NO CLUE about open cuts and disease transmission; who the hell knows how many hands she'd touched today?! She then puts away her drill and suggests I stick my hands in the acetone, but I immediately started burning on more than just the one finger, so I took out the index finger (since it was burning the most) and figured I'd just get it removed wherever I go to get my silk wrap, because at this point, I am sure I am not letting her perform ANY service on me. She clearly didn't have sense enough to know what the issue is with cutting a customer with a tool used on customer after customer after customer. As I'm sitting there with my hands in the acetone, she switches up and goes "where? I don't cut you, you fine." I said to myself: I know the hell she did not just try to deny cutting me?! She beckons over the older white gentleman, who I guess is the owner or something. I explain to him what happened and show him the cut. He seemed to acknowledge or at least cede so as to avoid further agitating me, and he walks away. Chainsaw Annie then goes over to where he was seated in the stairwell and closes the door so they can talk in private. She comes back and starts to file my nails down with a nail file (because I for damn sure wasn't letting her get near me again with her wrecking ball drill, not a chance!). About 15-20 minutes goes by of soaking and periodic filing. She then starts looking like she's wrapping up. She asked me if she could put "vitamin e" oil on my cuticles; I say sure. As she finished one hand, and I'm giving it the once over, I realize THERE'S STILL ACRYLIC ALL OVER MY NAILS, TF?! She goes, oh well you don't want me to use the drill, so...I was like TUH! She TRIIIIIIIEEEEEED it, and my facial expression must've said exactly that because she then announced that she would not charge me. I got up and walked out. NEVER AGAIN. UCLA is bogus as hell for the raggedy salons they have situated in the Village. Don't do these babies like this, UCLA. Come on now. You they aint got the funds to be going out to Century City or Brentwood for a decent mani. This is just wrong. Evict these crummy shops and replace them with ones like LAK, please. Fix it Jesus. Hands down the most thorough and long lasting manicure I've ever had. I graduated from UCLA and live in mid city now but still drive all the way to Westwood just to get my nails done because I refuse to go anywhere else. All of the manicurists are superb but Mai is really next level. The ladies at patio take time on their gel and work on one nail under the heat at a time. They use top quality products and as a result my nails go an entire month without chipping. The color selection at Patio is extensive, will all Essie and OPI colors. It's a small place - only about 100 sq ft - so it's not as flashy or modern as some other salons but the quality is by far superior. Call ahead to make an appointment as there are only 2 pedi chairs and 2 mani stations, all of which are usually full. Plan on spending a bit longer than you usually would for a service and allow an extra 20-30 min if you have gel to take off as they are methodical to not destroy your nail in the process. To top it off, they have a punch card system in which you get cash value after 10 visits. Cannot speak more highly! read more

I could not understand anything he mumbled except for when he blurted out that he had another customer coming in after me! The place is pretty small but i was able to call in advance in the morning for them to see me in the afternoon. I got a beautiful gel manicure for $30. It lasted me 3 to 4 weeks without any chips. The girls working are very sweet and talkative enough to still make it a very relaxing place. I mean I don't even know where to start. First of all, it's the smallest room with two pedicure chairs and two manicure tables. The busker where you put your feet doesn't have plastic disposable pads, so it feels very unsanitary. When the lady told me "I don't need much cut on my cuticle" I understood where things were going. And after she did my pedicure in 1 minute, I cancelled my gel mani, cause I knew NONE of my cuticles are getting cleaned. Hi I g two stars because both technicians were sweet and trying to do their best, but sorry it's very unprofessional. I could've done my pedicure 1000 times better without being a licensed nail technician. The application of polish is just horrible. Mai is awesome at what she does. She is so meticulous with every single little detail, she's not satisfied until YOU are satisfied with your nails. I was a random walk in and got lucky with them having space for me. They were so nice and sweet and tended to all my needs. They were gentle, and not pushy at all. As for people commenting that all she and L do is bicker, I didn't find that to be true at all. Yes, they might have tension present, but they don't duke it out in front of customers, hell, they compliment each other on jobs well done. The place might be small, but it's very cozy. Compared to the people that rented the space before them and did the same nail salon business, Mai and her crew are much nicer and much better at their jobs. The end result is stunning. Overall, I like the place better than most nail salons that I've been to. For the price that they charge (which is an incredibly good deal), the work they do is pretty damn good and service is welcoming. 10/10, would return. Added: Mai has a 5-day guarantee on her nail work. How many other places do that? That's how confident she is in her work, that she will guarantee your nails for 5 days. If anything goes wrong, she tells you that she will fix it for you for free. And boy, does she do a great job of it. I ended up getting a smudge on one of my nails and went to her for a fix. She wasn't just satisfied with fixing that smudge, and went ahead and inspected all my nails for any other small problems. She actually went through and removed the nail polish, rebuffed and dolled up the silk wraps, and then painstakingly went and reapplied fresh nail polish. Even after all this, she inspected them again and again until she and I were both happy with the result. Mai goes out of her way to make sure her customers are happy. This is my very first yelp review and I actually only created this account to write a review about the amazing Mai! She did a fantastic job on my nails. I am very particular about my cuticles and how my nails look and she is a true artist. In Los Angeles it is very hard to find a good nail shop and EXTREMELY hard to find a nail place that does acrylic nails very well. She spent a lot of time on my cuticles and really make sure every point was perfect. No other nail shop has ever done that. I would recommend this place to any and EVERYONE! Let me preface this by saying that I NEVER write reviews but I have to write this to off-set some of the random 1 and 2-star reviews below. Patio nail salon is a boutique salon with only three manicurists so that means roughly two things: 1) that you should definitely call ahead to book an appointment and 2) it's a small business which means they value their work (so much so that they offer a 5-day guarantee on your nails, which, they explained to me, means that you can put your nails through a wood-chipper and come back for a free fix as long as you're within the 5-day window). They keep a record of your appointments so they know every client that's ever stepped foot in the shop and after 10 services, your 11th one is free. Additionally, their color selection (for gels, lacquers and polishes) is out of this world!! What a gorgeous array of paint. Mai is TRULY an ARTIST. Her acrylics look natural, beautiful and feminine. (I was jealous of the other girls in the salon!) Linda, however, did my nails and I am still VERY HAPPY with them. I haven't had acrylics in probably 8 years but I just cut my natural nails off to start anew and I couldn't stand having them short! She took her time and was very patient with me while we figured out how long I wanted them and the exact shape I was going for. I should also mention that the gentleman who keeps the appointments and manages the day-to-day is very professional, courteous and prompt-- I will definitely be making another appointment and I may even keep up with the acrylics! I never thought they could look this way, so I am more than happy with the work that was done here. They have a huge selection of colors, and I love the essie brand for gel manicures. It's oil based so the it doesn't go on incredibly THICK like most gel manicures do. It feels like a regular manicure, but shines and has the durability of a gel. If I were in the Los Angeles area again, I would definitely get my manicures done here. Mai and her workers are meticulous and amiable. Had a gel pedicure and manicure with removal of an existing gel mani and pedi. It took over two hours to get these services performed and at a terrible quality. He painted each coat so thinly that it required 3 coats resulting in a thick look with too many air bubbles. And still uneven coating. Nails were shaped and trimmed unevenly. I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer last October and discovered Patio Nails while walking around Westwood between appts at UCLA medical center. They accommodated me that first day and gave me a great pedicure that lasted far longer than most. So I have continued to go there for my mani/pedi's since then. An unfortunate side effect of Chemotherapy is that your finger nails turn black and blue and then usually fall off.....obviously this is just one of a long line of things preventing me from feeling 'normal'. Mai and Lenny at Patio Nails have really been amazing through all of it and my nails look great. Mai really knows what she is doing and I feel like they are an important part of my recovery now. I don't know whether it was because I was Vietnamese or what, but she talked and talked and talked . . . and two hours later, my ears were practically bleeding. Massage chair was weak-sauce. I liked my finished gel nails, but didn't love them. I prefer VT Nails on Westwood. RECOMMEND if you are in the heart of Westwood and want colorful nail options. They do carry the most impressive nail polish colors I have seen. And you have to be patient if you are getting gel (2 hours). NOTE TO OWNER (in response to their comment below): I've had silk wrap repair, gel manicure and pedicures for under 2 hours. And next time, please disclose to your customer that you will be posting their hands/nails pictures on your business Yelp page before doing so. Due to the high standards of the owner, Mai, the quality of the manicures and pedicures is beyond exceptional. She is simply top notch! I always recommend this nail shop to all of my friends and none of them have ever had anything but compliments for the work they received from Mai and her other manicurists. I do not recommend. 1. My nails came out horrible. I got gel nails and there were small bubbles all over every single nail right after I got them done. The nail polish is also very bumpy because a thin even layer was not applied but instead a thick quick one was. By the end of it I was so tired of being there I just decided to go to another nail salon to get my nails re-done. 2. They are very rude. I asked for white nails because I did red the week before and the lady who was doing them kept making comments such as "white so boring you don't like color?" and "everyone is the same just white you're no different haha". She was also sneezing and coughing the entire time (which is okay I understand) but then she didn't clean her hands after and proceeded to touch me with that hand. 3. Their salon is extremely small (which isn't bad) but they keep you waiting for quite some time. They only had two workers when I went and they needed to work on 3 people. I waited 15 minutes to start (which is fine) but then I kept getting paused in between my manicure so they could work on someone else. 4. It was not worth $30. I could have done this job at home. Maybe they were just having a bad day? I was very disappointed because these reviews looked promising. I'm a little torn as to how many stars I should give this place... The assistants there did a phenomenal job on our pedicures. In fact, the foot massage and pedi were probably the best I've ever had. The gel manicure that Mai did for me did not last nearly as long as they are supposed to. It chipped within days. During my manicure, she was very rushed through it. Her husband/partner just sat there poking and prodding at her, vice versa. So unprofessional... You can't do this in front of customers!! I have never, ever sat through a service where I am just itching to run away. Why? The owner and her husband/partner (not sure if they're married) were bickering the whole time. They were going at it with each other... And the place is very small, so they're like right next to us all the while trying to piss each other off. So, so tacky. The time at a spa is supposed to be relaxing and enjoyable. Unfortunately, the owners do not seem to realize that their inability to hold in whatever negativity they have towards each other in front of customers does have an impact on their business. I liked this place. Yes, it's tiny and a bit dated in some aspects, but it's clean and has a great selection. Most importantly, they did a great job on my hands and feet. my friend whom works at the Ulta next door highly recommended this place, and she wasn't wrong. I watched them open fresh files for my nails, and their customer service was wonderful. The dynamic is very personal, there are two stations and two pedicure tubs, and I really enjoy that. The nail polish I picked was glitter, and I should have known better. Mai was kind enough to pick a good base color for me. When she looked at my nails, she then offered to add a different, thicker glitter on top. They were very friendly and their selection of nail polishes is the most I've ever seen. Especially for such a small place. They also use Seche Vite for the base and top coats, which makes the polish last much longer than other brands. I did have an issue with a slightly uneven paint job on my toes which i originally reviewed about. However, within hours of posting it the owner called me and offered to re-do my nails. I count that as great customer service and have edited my review to reflect this. I would go back because of that alone. Oh, and did I mention how many colors and brands of nail polishes they have? So fun! I also liked the cute courtyard location. And I was lucky enough to just walk in and get a massage chair. During the hour I was there, a few people came in with appointments. Have been coming here for a mani/pedi regularly for the past year, and have always had a great experience! The staff are always careful, diligent, and polite. There is a rewards program available for UCLA students. My suggestion is to make an appointment ahead of time, as it is a small business and there won't always be manicurists available for walk ins. read more

Came here for the first time today and made my appointment through yelp for a gel manicure. I just moved to LA a few weeks ago and desperately needed my nails done. I arrived an hour earlier than I was supposed to (I didn't realize how close it was to where I live) and they accommodated me without having to even wait. They were very careful with my nails and made sure that everything was perfect. My entire gel manicure (including removal of my previous gel) was $40 with tip. I went here thinking it would be great, but it was anything but. I've went to nail places in the middle of nowhere in the Midwest that were better than this place. First of all, this place is SO CRAMPED. I read reviews and figured it was small... But this was just too small. People were tripping over my small purse. There's two manicure tables jammed in a corner against a wall, and a few feet over three pedicure stations stacked next to each other. I got Mai to do a full set of oval shaped nails, which were extremely crooked, even though it's the most basic and classic nail shape. She also didn't add tips to my nails because she liked my natural nails better and also switched polishes on me because she preferred one over another. I should've spoken up, but I usually don't in these situations since I'm someone who gets anxious about any type of conflict. She didn't do anything to my cuticles. I've never had acrylics lift so easily either. (The picture I've attached is two weeks old, ignore the growth). I paid full price ($40) for not getting any tips with my acrylics, which I'm not entirely sure is okay. The relationship between her and her (I'm assuming) husband is also terrible. They got in a tiff while I was there and she was mocking him "MAI! MAI! MAI!" Oh, and they messed up my scheduling. I had made an appointment for Tuesday and they put me down for monday, so when I got there for my time (which I confirmed earlier so I know I was right) no one there was able to do to acrylics. I've never been to a place where only one nail tech did acrylics and no one else was incapable. So I ended up having to make an appointment on Wednesday. read more

This place is part of Ali Hair Salon, but you access it through the inner courtyard (hence "patio"). It's a tiny salon with 2 manicure stations and 2 pedicure stations, 3-4 Vietnamese women with varying degrees of friendliness, and a male American owner who mans the phones and credit card checkout. The salon suffices in cleanliness, but it's not one of those beauty salons you come to for a relaxing, mental reset. $30 for gel manicure (I chose a light pink Essie polish-- #191 in their system) $20 for manicure. read more
