I've been meaning to give them a try for some time; finally got around to it last night. The staff was welcoming and responsive, and set about making my order immediately. I was excited because they offer fries -- the place I normally go - Dino's - doesn't have a deep fryer. I ordered a meatball sub with provolone, and a large fries, to go. [I live two blocks away, so everything was still hot when I got home and ate. The cook found a bowl of previously fried french fries and dropped them into the fryolator. Then he sliced a sub bun, layered on the the cheese and dug four meatballs and sauce out of a steam-table dish. The sub actually wasn't bad considering it had been steaming in it's tomato sauce for god knows how long. The meat wasn't too tough and chewy, though the sauce tasted like it was something prepared out of a can. The bun was fresh, though lacking in flavor. The fries were what you'd expect when they are previously fried and reheated in the fryolator: greasy, tough, and chewy. I should have thrown them out but I hadn't eaten all day and I was starved. I paid for it though, wicked heartburn all night long! Bottom-line: the next time I want a meatball sub, I'll walk the extra block to Dino's for a great one. As for fries, I'll save up my cravings until I'm near a Five Guys and get their spectacular, fresh, hand-cut, cooked in fresh oil, and served the moment they come out of the fryer. Mmm-Mmm-Great! I've never had a lobster roll in my life. My boyfriend and I wanted to grab a bite in Boston and he recommeneded a lobater roll. So I yelped a couple places and Pauli's definately took the cake. The sandwich was beyond delicious!!! For $15 they fill your roll with chunks and chuncks of fresh lobster and it comes with a bag of chips. You pay for what you get and some more because this is a 100% lobster roll sandwich. Located in the historical North side of Boston, this small little joint is packed with people and their prices are very reasonable. read more

I'm hardly a lobster roll expert, but the one I I had at Pauli's was pretty good. Warm and fresh lobster chunks tossed in butter on a toasted bun. They also offer a cold version with mayo. At $20, it was a good value vs. lobster rolls at other shops in the area (though I still think that's a lot to pay for a sandwich). Pauli's is one of my office's go-to's for a quick lunch. We go out at least once a week and bring back our sandwiches/wraps and all have our favorites. Mama Luca, Pollo Pazo, California, and more...the numerous options are flavorful and priced fairly well for being in the North End. The big knock is the queue management and layout of the space. The space is small which is normal for the area, but there is always (...always!) confusion with people coming in and having to ask the people who have already ordered if they are in line. Some simple changes could help cure this confusion and be more inviting to passersby too. read more

Wiked good authentic Italian food like my motha used to make! I grew up in MA and currently live in Tennessee. Good ol Italian food may be the thing I miss the most about MA. EVERY TIME I make it home I always stop at Paulis for their food. WIKED FRIGGIN GOOD!! If you're a local or a tourist who wants authentic Boston/ North end food this is the place to go! OMG! The BEST lobsta roll I've had, of course from the MA, Boston to be exact! The Team inside this tiny little restaurant in the North End were great, super service focused. I've eaten their food before through catering but first time in the restaurant itself and while I don't love mayo on my roll, strictly a butter kind of gal, if you order it hot you'll never know!! It was jam packed with lobster, no holding back here. You totally get what you pay for! It comes with chips but you can sub fries if you like. Great little diner with a nice selection of sandwiches. Cold lobster roll is very minimally dressed but cooked tender and has great flavor. Chowder is just the right richness. And no sand!! Pauli's is located on a busy street with a beautiful park across the street. It's located right next door to Neptune oyster and decided to try this place out from the recommendation of my friend who's a local resident of Boston. It was busy and crowded inside, but if you order anything other than the lobster roll, then your food comes out pretty fast. I ordered the hot lobster roll and it was so delicious! They give you generous portions of lobster and frankly, it was pretty filling! The lobster grilled cheese sandwich was also delicious and had the perfect amount of cheesiness to it. I had both Neptune and Pauli's lobster rolls and they are both equally delicious in their own way. Pauli's lobster roll is a bit more buttery but it's not too much. The staff is really friendly and the service is fast. I'd definitely come back and would recommend people try both. read more

Yum. "Lobsta" roll. Try it hot. Trust me. Even the 7oz roll comes STUFFED with big meaty bits of crustacean. "Hot" gets you melted butter, a toasty bun, and possibly the most decadent sandwich experience you'll ever have. Super-friendly people, too. I went to Pauli's on a earlier this month for a famed lobster roll. It was very busy when me, my husband and daughter came into the restaurant. It is a small quaint little place, but tough to find a seat to eat. We ordered the famed 7 oz lobster roll in hot butter, the tortellini, and fish and chips. The lobster roll was smaller than I expected, but it did have a bunch of lobster and it was excellent. The price was a little high for the roll and a bag of chips about $18.00, but well worth it. My husband had the fish and chips and stated they were really good. I tasted the fish and agreed it was great. My daughter had the tortellini and it was just okay. THIS IS A CRY FOR HELP... I recently moved to the Back Bay and discovered that I am outside of Pauli's delivery range. I checked UberEats this afternoon and nearly collapsed when I got the news. How am I supposed to continue enjoying the Jamaican-me-crazy when I'm feeling a little crazy...? What about when I'm inspired to be fit and have a craving for a California wrap...? Then there are those days, those really lonely days, when the only thing keeping me going is the thought of The Paulitician. A sandwich that can only be described as therapeutic... if not coma inducing. Please, don't let this fall on deaf ears. Surprisingly, the North End is not a place one normally finds a simple place to sit and grab a quick sandwich. Though the restaurants in the North End are many and varied, a simple "sub shop" just wasn't in the offering. Now Pauli's has arrived as a simple breath of fresh sandwichy air. Simple and small, the shop is perfect for stepping in and grabbing a quick sandwich, chips and a drink and heading back to the office. Perfect for that 1/2 hour lunch. My only real complaint is that the restaurant does not offer recycling, which is a big problem. All the drinks are in recyclable bottles and cans and all the food is provided in paper bags. It is a veritable pile of recyclable material with nary a proper container for it. A shame really. Other than that one major black mark a perfectly simple and tasty treat. read more

I got the avocado lobster salad here last night with my family. The guacamole on it was good. The lettuce was romaine. Plenty of lobster. I tasted my kids fries and they were really great. I want to start out by saying the flavor of the food is amazing. I got a delicious Italian that tasted like my grandmother had made it. But the subway was constructed horribly. Ik it seems like that doesn't matter but once the sun falls apart it's so difficult and messy to eat. If the had put the meat on the bottom and the toppings on the other side and the condiments in the middle then it wouldn't be soggy. So just for the construction I can't give it a 5 start. read more

My husband and daughter had the hot lobster roll and loved it, giving it high praise. I prefer cold lobster rolls, so I tried one here. I was a little disappointed in the complete preparation of the cold roll, but that is more a reflection of my personal taste. I don't like the lobster to be thickly coated in mayo, and this one wasn't, but I do like there to be slightly more mayo, a hint of lemon, and the "crunch" that comes with small pieces of celery. At Pauli's, the lobster was fresh and perfectly cooked, and the bun was perfectly toasted, but there was nearly no mayo, no discernable lemon, and not a speck of celery. Again, the lobster itself was fresh and perfectly cooked. This review is reflective of my personal taste and provided as an FYI so those who have similar preferences will know in advance that Pauli's cold roll is done in a different style. That said, although it was different than my preference, it was still quite good and the French fries were hot, crispy, and awesome! My husband had the onion rings and found them to be terrific as well. read more
